Title: Tutorial: Uploading Graphics/Signatures/Avatars

EnglishRose - April 14, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
Ah, I remember a time when I myself asked how to upload and avatar and/or signature. Very tiring for those who know, and kept getting asked. So, I've decided to come up with a tutorial for those who struggle... then they have no excuse when they make a brand new thread about this kind of thing. I think this would make a great sticky topic. ^_^

Uploading Avatars

Ok, I have an avatar. I want to upload it here.

Go to My Controls, in the top right corner of this page, next to Inbox.

Once there, click on Edit Avatar Settings, underneath Personal Profile.

From there you can upload the avatar from your computer or type in the URL. I'll show you how to get the URL at the bottom of the post.

You're done!

Uploading Signatures

Right, I have a siggy to upload. But how do I do it?

First of all, you need an Image Host. There's Photobucket, and Imageshack, both of which host Images for free.

Once you've registered an account, upload your files, which I'm sure you'll manage easy enough. :P

You should have some URL and IMG tags now. Take the IMG tag, and highlight it, and click copy.

Go to My Controls, located in the top right-hand corner of this page, and click it.

On the left you should see under Personal Profile, Edit Signature. Click on it.

You'll have a little frame where you can put all your information that you want on your signature.

Paste your IMG into the signature. Press Update My Signature.

You're done! :)

URLs, IMGs, and Links

First of all, you need an Image Host like Photobucket, and Imageshack, both of which host Images for free.

Register, and then upload your images. Underneath each image you upload, there will be codes. The [IMG] codes are what make the image show on the page.

The [URL] codes give links to the image, and open up in a new window. Well, they open up in a new window most of the time. :P

I think that's it, so there'll be no excuses!!

Do you need to know how to post an image, lifestream_aerith?

What you need to do is upload your image to an image hosting service, like Photobucket. When you want to post it, copy the URL that Photobucket gives you and use the [IMG] tags.

For example, I want to post the picture of my sig. So I get the URL from Photobucket and type (without the spaces) :

[ IMG ]http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y291/yin-chan/devotion_boudaries.png [ /IMG ]

Like so. And my image will show up like this :

Do you understand? Hope that answers your question. ^_^

Also....moving this to the Help forum.
