Title: Released English Clip!
Description: gotta love youtube

nyrin - April 14, 2006 06:55 PM (GMT)
Found this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmgYgE_4qXc

It's an english clip of the first confrontation between Cloud and Kadaj in the Forgotten Capital. There's not much talking in it, but I love the few lines that we do here! Both voices are done really well! For some reason I especially love when Kadaj goes "I'm glad you could make it!" I don't know, his voice actor (who is he again?) seemed to really capture Kadaj's craziness, even with those few lines! Now I really can't wait to buy this on dvd :D

Artec - April 14, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
I think Kadaj's voice is very fitting for him, they did an awesome job on him!

EnglishRose - April 14, 2006 08:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I dunno if it's real... the scene looks great, though. ^_^

I dunno... the voices don't really match the speaking, the way the mouths move. I wouldn't say it's a released clip, because SE haven't released the film yet. I think someone has just dubbed the Japanese Version. ^_^

That was very impressive :D. Im glad it was in English. Kadaj was pretty cool, and I also think he had a good voice. Thanks posting nyrin

-Testament- - April 14, 2006 08:50 PM (GMT)
they didn't do lip sync with the english version, so some voices will be off the movement of the lips.

I don't mind the voices there good, but Kadaj, its alright, not a problem for me.

Kadaj voice is done by Steve Staley he did alot of Anime VAs one that maybe some might know. Kouji from Digimon Frontier. Heh i love him as kouji!! He also did Kamui Shirou from X.
He did fantastic for Kadaj he has talent. ^___^

Materia Thief - April 15, 2006 04:57 AM (GMT)
Kadaj's voice was well done, I liked it. ^_^

Marlene's voice was rather "out-of-nowhere" though. I would have to hear more to really see how well I like it though. Her voice is so gentle though, really soft. Reminds me of Aeris. XD;;

yin-chan - April 15, 2006 05:08 AM (GMT)
HAHA!!! :lmao: English version never fails to crack me up. All the grunts and moans!! It's hilarious!!! :lmao:

That aside, I really really really liked Kadaj's voice. :D Thumbs up to his VA!! Marlene was ... a tad emotionless.... and I felt Yazoo was awfully out of place.

But still, I can't wait for the release! Hahahahaha! :lmao: Cloud! Grunt somemore plz.

The rental store my friend works at got it in early (and mine didn't, grr!!) so we borrowed it from him and watched it in English.

I thought it was rather good (the voice acting I mean). XD Some lines could have been delivered better but for the most part, not too shabby. Cait Sith was Scottish... that kinda made me laugh. +_+ Also, Cid's voice almost worked here, while in KHII it sounded weird--seemed more natural, yknow?

And my favorite VA punching bag... MENA SUVARI. She didn't so bad a job this time around. d: Still flat in spots but she's improved. Could still use work but tolerable.

Cloud was fantastic--Steve Burton is like... the definitive Cloud I guess. XD Most of the VAs ranged from good to really good--Rachel Leigh Cook did a well, though some parts she coulda put more emotion into. Reno... Axel! Automatic win. ^^ Ooh, and Denzel's outburst of "Son of a bitch!" kicked all kinds of arse (Marlene's voice was sooo cute as well; I'll admit I was a bit worried when she was reading through the opening but she got the hang of it real quick)).

The subtitles, on the other hand, were a bit more loose than I thought they'd be (my Japanese is pretty damn basic but some parts they took liberty with). But finally... finally I can understand the more complicated parts they were talking about. x.X

Any chance you could upload some of those scenes?

Ahh, it was a borrowed DVD from my friend and I returned it to him right after we watched it. ^^;;

P.S. I had nfi what Cait Sith was saying in the subs for the Japanese language version (yes, we watched it again in Japanese after we watched it in English cause we're crazy like that!)... He was all "Geesh lassie cintar cuvucnaWTF." We had to keep rewinding to try and read what they were translating his lines as and we just couldn't figure it out...

Kuki Prower - April 15, 2006 09:01 AM (GMT)
Voice, good but not great.

Steve Burton rules as Cloud yet again, he delivers him perfectly or near as to his original VA.

Kadaj's voice suited him, and it was performed well but there were scenes where it kinda dragged on.

Marlene's voice...UNIMPRESSED! :fist: That shouting of "Cloud!" was rubbish and I demand that she redo that part!

Loz and Yazoo just grunted mainly, but they seemed to match the originals quite well.

Ugh, but one thing I just couldn't stand was the American accents all over the voices! I'm sorry but I didn't imagine Kadaj speaking with a really high accent.

EnglishRose - April 15, 2006 12:40 PM (GMT)
Wait, I'm confused. Is the English Version out then?

Lesca - April 15, 2006 02:21 PM (GMT)
I was laughing and shaking my head when i first watched that :P Takes some getting used to hearing english voice actors after only hearing Japanese for a loooonngggg time hehe, but I like Kadaj's voice and Cloud's too. I guess the new voices will grow on me after watching it a few times, does with video games too. I hear a voice first and am like o_O then after a bit i hardly notice ^_^

Hades' Daughter - April 15, 2006 02:53 PM (GMT)
I thought the voices were alright, but I'm not really impressed with any of them...at least, not from this little clip, I wasn't. I've also heard from people that Marlene's english VA sounds even more cute than her Japanese one...but I'm not seeing it, at least not yet. She didn't sound very emotional either. Maybe I'll change my mind after I watch the whole movie.

It shouldn't be. The release date isn't until the 25th, but it's probably one of those things put out by SE/Sony for the purpose of a "demo".

Then again: "The rental store my friend works at got it in early (and mine didn't, grr!!) so we borrowed it from him and watched it in English." - key

This can happen.

It's the same reason why pirated versions of DVD movies are being sold even before the DVD itself is released for sale. Shops keeps stocks of the DVDs in storage a couple of days/weeks before the release date. All it takes is one nimble-handed employee to sneak one copy out, and the pirates will be at it replicating it in no time.

So I wouldn't be surprised if someone slipped a copy of AC out on their own, and uploaded a snippet or two online.

Of course, assuming that's the official video. I haven't watched it since I'd like to savour the experience with the movie itself.

hazeqeren - April 15, 2006 04:49 PM (GMT)
I wish I work at a rental store!

Thanks for sharing the link. I really am very impressed with Cloud's voice. Kadaj's voice is ok. I can't wait to get Advent Children.

ladystrife - April 15, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
i like Clouds Voice (i still think they should of picked Keanu Reeves :P ) but his voice is cool Kadaj's voice is okay but he seems like he cant act very well, well he does in that scene anyway but hes not a major problem..

But Marlene's voice was really bad i think they should redo hers defanatly  i was not impressed  just when she shouted CLOUD!! i was like omg! are u kidding me wot happened too her sweet and cute little voice now its like she sounds like an old women  okay som1 needs too calm me down <_< but i soooooooooooo cant wait too hear every1 elses voice like Aerith :aeris: :winner: oo i cant wait for Advent Children too come out its soo close :lmao:

It isn't officially out, but the stores have received them to put out on the 25th for sale and rental stores (in my case, Blockbuster since I work there) have received the copies to put out for rent on the 25th.

lol ladystrife I so agree with u about marlene's voice, I wasn't very impressed with it. I thought Kadaj's voice wasn't too bad

ladystrife - April 15, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)

I have no doubt that that's possible, like Lynn said. But the the way they spoke, didn't match the sound. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but something doesn't look right. :ermm:

But I've been saving sooo long, so I'm gonna wait for the actual DVD, and not waste my money on a pirate. :P

Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I prefer the Japanese VAs  . I always liked subtitles more than dubs. But I guess they're not bad. They just take some getting used to after having only heard the movie in Japanese for the past few months. I'm excited for the release though. Can't wait to buy it!

Definitely. I prefer listening to anything in its original language (foreign movies included, naturally) because that's the way it was meant to be seen.<3 One reason why people who INSIST on watching foreign live action films in English/any sort of dub make me want to gouge their eyes out with a rusty spoon (and of course, part-timing at a rental store I get this a lot)...

-Testament- - April 16, 2006 11:41 PM (GMT)
I prefer Kadaj's and Sephiroths japanese VA's, I don't like there english ones, but everyone else is fine.

LeaveOnYourBrightLights - April 17, 2006 01:39 AM (GMT)
Anxious about..Vincent...His Japanese VA had a really sexy voice in my opinion though. xD;; -rambling-

Kusari Yarou - April 17, 2006 04:52 AM (GMT)
Well I think Kadaj's voice is great, just the right amount of cockiness. And Cloud(what I could hear of him in all the grunts XD ) was quite sexy :D I've got bit of a problem with Marlene though, she sounded like she was saying 'clod' instead of Cloud.

QUOTE

Of course, because that's how the makers imagined them to sound like. But you have to admit, it's nice to focus on the action and not have to read your anime. So I say, cheers for the English version. I can't wait!

The guy who does Spike's voice in Cowboy Bebop is the one doing Vincent's voice in AC. That much, I can remember, since I recall CG being insanely happy about it when it was announced. ^_^

I think it sometimes depends heavily on which version you first hear, as well. I'm so used to watching AC in Japanese, I just know I'll take a while to adjust to them speaking in English. It's not fair to the English VAs, but it's the truth. Heck, some small part of me is considering just jotting down the English dialogue and creating official subs for my copy of AC in Japanese instead!

But on the flip side, there was the Rurouni Kenshin anime. I first heard and kept watching it so often in its English dub version, that I've never been able to adjust to the Japanese version ever since (even though the English version butchered the names and added a LOT of dialogue where there was total silence in the original).

Love Blossom - April 17, 2006 06:49 AM (GMT)
Wow! :o

Cloud has a pretty sexy voice. It's like... manly. <3 Not that Takahiro Sakurai's wasn't, but this one is just more badass to me. I think this dub will be good. But I think he should have sounded more urgent when he fell off his motorcycle. (The Japanese VA executed that line better, IMO)

Kadaj - Just about as insane and twisted as the Japanese one. I beleive they've got the tone down as good as they could, because these are two completely different languages and they can't make everything exact.

Marlene - She sounded as cute as her Japanese VA. No complaints here, really. Just need to hear her speak.

Now it just needs to come to England... >_>

I just listen to it, and I get this vision of Cloud singing ......and...well...that kinda scares me a little...

Gamespot apparantly updated with a little bit of the SHM scene. Here we get to hear him talk (his voice is all right I guess :P). But it's about two seconds long so there's nothing too earth shattering here. Still, take a look at it if you wanna know how Pres Shinra sounds. You have to roll your mouse over the AC ad, and then unmute the ad.

Erms...am I the only one who's not entirely impressed with Steve Burton's voice? I mean, it sounds okay, but...I think Takahiro Sakurai's voice fits Cloud a great deal more. Guess I was thinking it'd be better than this.

Nope, I agree with you. To me, Cloud's english VA came off as fairly average... but it could be worse, so I'll be grateful. But yes, I almost always like the Japanese VAs over the English ones. Why does it feel like the Japanese VAs are just more expressive? *sighs* Anyway, Cloud's speaking voice sounds pretty good I guess. The grunts and groans from when he fell off his bike sounded a wee bit forced, but I probably just need to get used to this movie in English. But Marlene's sounds REALLY bad so far.
