Title: Is Aerith A Murderer?
Amathala - April 14, 2006 03:12 PM (GMT)
Reading some older threads here, and in other forums, specifically the Devotion thread in ACF, I saw that some people said that they couldn't forgive Aerith for the death of the SHM, and even completely dropped their love for the pairing of Cloud and Aerith. I'm not going to name any names, though people who may frequent this thread may know who they are.
I dont believe that Aerith was a murderer, Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo's fate was set from the beginning. They were being used by Jenova for her revival, or rather for the revival of Sephiroth. I believe that they would have died regardless. Aerith did Kadaj a beautiful favor by giving him a much easier death than he would have had, had he just lay there and suffered in Cloud's arms.
By their logic, however, you can technically say that most everyone in AC was guilty of murder. Cloud, Tifa, Barret and the rest of the old AVALANCE could be considered murderers because their bombing of the reactor in the beginning of the game did kill some people. Reno and Rude could also be considered murderers as well, because had they not bombed Yazoo and Loz outside of the tunnel in the chase scene, they could have lived as well.
Even their fave characters, Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo are murderers, but let's forget that they not only tortured Tseng and Elena nearly to death, kidnapped many children to further their goal, tried multiple times to kill Cloud, and hurt many MANY people in Midgar by summoning a monster, only for their own selfish goals. Wouldn't their deaths be justified?
I just find myself miffed that people would switch to another pairing because their favorite character was doomed to suffer a horrible fate. What do you guys think? Was Aerith in fact a murderer? I certainly do not believe so.
ff7sam - April 14, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
Wow...people can really not make sence sometimes. Of course it wasn't Aeris that murdered them. Cloud was the one that slashed at Kadaj about 1 million times, if anyone's the murderer it's Cloud, do they hate Cloud now too? Was there suposed to be no death in Advent Children? Were they suposed to replace Yazoo's gun with like a rubber ducky, then have the rest of the cast sing "I love you" from barney? The planet's comming to an end, there's gotta be some death in there somewhere.
Lynx - April 14, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
Excuse me, but that's nonsense. First of all, *Cloud, Loz and Yazoo* caused explosion. Where is Aerith's fault here? If they talk about the rain that was "killing them" then no. Their time was over because of Sephiroth. He was the one who killed Kadaj. So why don't hate him? Aerith is not an angel, but she is not a murderer too. Oh, and Loz and Yazoo were way too badly injured after Turk's firework.
I think that if a person has enough brains and at least doesn't despise Aerith for who knows what reasons then he/she sees that there was no Aerith's fault in SHM's death. Cloud was also enough affected. Do you think she hurt the man she loves to get rid of Yazoo and Loz?
They just jump to conclusions very quickly without even thinking.
And again, is this a reason to start to hate PAIRING? It seems to me more *cough* reasonable to hate character. But again, I see no motives to do that. If someone likes her he/she wouldn't start to hate her because of that.
FF_Goddess - April 14, 2006 04:26 PM (GMT)
That is just stupid. <_< Aerith was doing the SHM a favor. She gave them a painfree death and peace. Did these morons not see the tears of joy in Kadaj's eyes and the beatific smile on his face as he died? He was glad to find peace at last. Aerith was a savior, not a murderer, and anyone who says otherwise is just looking for a reason to hate her. :grr:
Anti-R - April 14, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
OK. It's a rule that Bad Guys Die. It cannot be helped.
As for Aerith killing the SHM. I find it poetic justice. She died by Sephiroth's sword. She is washing away his remnants in AC. I call it karma.
Anywho's Kadaj in the end was happy. And I have no doubt Aerith made sure that he will be happy back in the Lifestream. Can't say about his siblings though.
Lynn - April 14, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
Ah, this load of baloney. I swear, the Aerith-hate that popped up after AC was just stupid. It baffled me that anyone could hate HER for what happened with the SHM.

Exactly. I suppose a lot of fans might exclaim that Kadaj (and Yazoo and Loz) should've been given a second chance or something-- but looking at his behaviour in AC, that was simply not possible. They were too driven by one goal and only one goal, and anything else would not have sufficed. The way I see it, in Kadaj's mind, there were only two options: to succeed, or to fail.
And since he failed, at least Aerith was there to welcome him to the Lifestream happily. Kadaj so desperately wanted to meet Mother, and she gave him the welcome of a warm, caring, loving mother that allowed him to go in peace-- which is much more comforting than the cold, essentially-dead alien that was Jenova.
Furthermore, yes, the SHM would've probably "died" anyway. I highly doubt Sephiroth would've transformed back into Kadaj after defeating Cloud. Yazoo and Loz would've probably been absorbed into Sephiroth's consciousness soon after, being his remnants. So even had Aerith and AVALANCHE not intervened, the SHM would've been gone anyway.

Excellant point. It's ridiculous how some fans aren't able to keep Aerith's actions in perspective with the rest.
Cloud, Tifa, Barret and AVALANCHE-- They killed thousands when they blew up the reactors. This they did of their own accord, and the guilt has not left any of them. Yet fans conveniently gloss over this point because the people who died were mere NPCs, not silver-haired bishies. We are now given a face to the victims in the form of Denzel, yet you don't see anyone hating Tifa and/or Barret for destroying the kid's life, do we?
Reno, Rude and the Turks-- I believe it's very safe to say that these characters have killed before. They're the shadow organisation of Shinra: trained assassins, spies and everything else. I'm willing to bet that, unlike Aerith who saved the world or AVALANCHE who tried to, the Turks killed for less-than-pure intentions.
Yet, just because Aerith was responsible for finishing off three leading villains (who happen to be very good-looking), they start hating her.

Agreed. I suppose everyone just got used to Aerith being dead after seven years, they forgot that she'd also deserved a chance at life, love and happiness. <_<
yin-chan - April 15, 2006 02:36 AM (GMT)
*adds my two cents worth* :)
For one thing - Aerith wasn't solely to blame for SHM's death. Granted, she had a part in it - but from what the movie shows, they were already weak as a result of Cloud battling Sephy. The destruction of Jenova's head, perhaps? When Yazoo and Loz face-off with Cloud, you notice that Loz says, "Let's go play together." I don't know about others, but this seems to me that they realize they're dying and is on some sort of suicide mission. Immediately after he says that, Yazoo and Loz do that explosion thingy, which is what I presume is that main cause of their death, and not Aerith. I mean, sure they were weakening under her rain and perhaps the destruction of Jenova cells (which Cloud performed on Sephy), but Yazoo still had the power to shoot a gun! I would most certainly think that, if anything, Aerith's rain would've given them a more milder death than a self-caused-rooftop explosion. They knew they would die if they shot that final shot. It was suicide. Aerith didn't tell them "Hey, why don't you blow up yourselves?!"
Another cause for observation is Geostigma. What cures Geostigma? Aerith's rain. What makes the SHM vulnerable? Aerith's rain.
Which would Aerith rather do? Not rain, and let all the children, friends and people dear to her die from Geostigma and spare the lives of three SHM (one of whom was half dead already after Cloud's Omnislash Ver. xxxxx) who tried to kill people, harmed the children, fight Cloud and Avalanche, and taek ovah teh wurld!1!!11'!!
Or would she heal Geostigma with her rain, at the same time taking the SHM away to protect the planet, and even going as far as to give Kadaj and peaceful, wholesome send-off. I think it's an amazing thing for her even to be able to do, seeing that she's dead and all.
Some might say the SHM deserve a second chance. Kadaj perhaps, but he was happy enough just meeting 'Mother'. Yazoo and Loz, on the other hand - showed no signs of deserving a 'second chance'. Right to the end they were trying to kill Cloud, right to the end they were still bent on their purpose. What makes anyone think that if they continued living, they would turn a whole new leaf and open a bakery in Edge???
Even without Aerith's rain, they would've died anyway, just like Kadaj. It's better for them. Life would be meaningless for them without 'Mother'.
So no, Aerith is not a murderer. Like FF_G so aptly said, Aerith is a saviour.
cloud_n_aerith_strife - April 15, 2006 04:08 AM (GMT)
are you serious, people actually changed their mind about the pairing and blamed Aerith for their death. That is just crazy, Aerith didn't muder anyone. I agree with what everyone else says, she did them a favor by making sure they had a painless death.
Sadhana - April 15, 2006 04:19 AM (GMT)
I didn't know the murdered could go on to murder people  . Are people seriously accusing Aerith of murder? That's a tad bit silly. Hey, if you're the enemy, say hello to death. It's expected. If you're gonna follow that line of logic, how many people did Cloud kill in the entire game? There were random battles every ten steps, and you killed them most of the time.
goddess_in_pink07 - April 15, 2006 09:14 PM (GMT)
Oh gosh. They claim shes a murderer?! <_< What else is new.....
Why would they claim something sooo stupid?! Good lord...... some people think the most idiotic things, eh? Aerith is NOT a murderer.

How about you tell us why you think she's not a murderer? ^_^ I'm very interested to hear your thoughts about this? (it's also more meaningful to read a post with reasoning rather than one that just agrees ;) )
Artec - April 16, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
..if Aerith's a murder I don't even want to know what Sephiroth is.
Kaldea - April 16, 2006 06:29 AM (GMT)
1) Kadaj sure looked like he finally found peace to me. People don't exactly act that way when they are being HORRIBLY BUTCHERED.
2) You might as well call Cecil, Terra, Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Tidus, Yuna, etc. murderers as well. Worse even. The evil they killed didn't go peacefully.
The lack of logic in these arguments is hilarious.

Azumi - April 18, 2006 04:12 PM (GMT)
That's just ridiculous, Aerith did not murder the SHM, like everyone here's been saying she had given Kadaj a peaceful way to go and the other two were evil to the very end.
Thanks yin-chan for pointing out that suicide thing with Loz and Yazoo, I never thought about it that way before but I think you're right. I 100% agree with that rain part, what was Aerith suppose to do? Just let all those people affected with Geostigma die a painful slow death? And like you said, it appears Loz and Yazoo chose to go out with a bang, I mean they didn't have to go out into the rain, they chose to do so and Kadaj was probably going to die anyway from Cloud's attack.
If the 3 were allowed to live on, wouldn't they be back to that comatose state? I mean they are the last three of those reunion guys from the game right? Like the person in the tube in midgar and the residents in Neibelheim, where you couldn't even talk to them in a way that made much sense?

Rapid Sephiroth fangirl: "SEPHIRTOH=SEX! He iz liek teh hawt god man wif one wingez! He comittses no evil cuz he is bootiful!1" =P These people(Seph, SHM) are EVIL. They could care less about who lives and who dies. I don't consider taking their lives to save the fate of the world evil and I don't consider Aerith a RUTHLESS EVAL KILLEH!!1 xD
Alan Bates - April 30, 2006 06:28 PM (GMT)
Oh sure, let's get mad at Aeris who "murdered" three pychopaths who wanted to DESTROY THE ENTIRE PLANET! and, judging by what Sephiroth said, use that planet to find ANOTHER planet that they could completley remake into their own image.
How could she be so cruel?

''ZOMG111111111!!!! BOOTIFEL MENZ, SECKZ1111 IMA WRITE FANFIC. HONOEZ, AERITSH KILT. ZOMG, HATEZ!!!!!''
it's so ridiculous. its like saying that yuna ''ZOMG MURDERED AURON'' at the ending of ffx!
gargh, i give up. will finish this post at home, the shift key on this keyboard doesnt work and it's drivig me insane. scratch that, HALF the keys don't work

YES! SHE WAS A COLD BLOODED MURDERER!
Lol, j/k.
Actually, you made good points. But in my opinion, I looked at it as; Aerith practically became the planet when she died. I figured because she was the last Cetra, and she prayed for holy, thus making her a goddess states. So, she heals everyone’s Geostigma, and then she lets the SHM, rest in piece, Kadaj obviously was going to die, same with the Loz and Yazoo. And if she was a murderer. Think of the people she saved when she healed their Geostigma, I think that qualifies her as a savior, don't ya think? But that is just me. It was sweet though how Aerith healed Cloud first. :cleris: :fangirl:
Angelalex242 - May 9, 2006 05:25 AM (GMT)
Well, Aerith needed revenge on old Sephiroth anyway.
So killing his memetic legacy simply evens the score.
But...hey...
It's Final Fantasy.
If healing kills you, what are you?
Undead, of course.
Tenshi_Aerith - May 9, 2006 01:17 PM (GMT)
Thats just bull honestly Aerith like you guys said did it for there (Kadaj, Yazoo,Loz) own good and if people who switch to a new pairing can do that because of this then I say that anyone can be a murder simple as that...
SimpleCry - May 10, 2006 12:38 AM (GMT)
No man, she is a Killer. Gosh you guys...we should hate her. lol j/k. That never gets old. :P
The whole undead thing, wow really makes sence, I did notice it hurt them...but I thought...I don't think so yeah. But that was a good point. Aerith with revenge, hahahaha she rules my life. and Sephy killer never. I just thought he was a great person with the one wing. lol Sephy is like the altime serial killer, he would be 1 one on the worlds top killers list. If we condem Aerith then she would be a close third after the SHM, but I mean gerrness she did not really do anything but kill them I mean she healed people. A mass majority of people. ALOT OF PEOPLE! who thinks Aerith is a killer anyway? *shakes fist* If she was a murderer, she woulda let Cloud die at the end when he got shot. But nooooooooooooooo. Man she shoulda let him die. Then him and Zack coulda made babies...err I mean him and Aerith. ^^

uhhh Thankies. I guess.
But yeah, Aerith woulda been all happy for a dead Cloud <--somehow that sounds horrible.---<
Anywho I watched it again, and I noticed, Aerith says to Kadaj, "Everyones waiting, you can come, if your ready." So technically Kadaj chose to die. Thus making Aerith a not murderer. YAY!
x_danny_x - May 23, 2006 05:23 PM (GMT)
hehehe, i guess they are trying to find any excuse to just hate her. dear lord, accusing Aerith of all people a murderer. I guess we can exclude Cloud trying a billion times trying to slash and dice Kajah to death. <_<

^_^
Nocturnal~Fantasy - December 28, 2006 07:20 PM (GMT)
Aerith? The same Aerith that we all fell in love with is now a murderer? What will they come up with next? That Cloud was really happy throughout the whole freaking game and that Aerith was a slut? Oh wait, somehow, they've already got the last one ^^
SimpleCry has a point. She (she being Aerith) did let him know that everyone was waiting, and then she added 'if you are ready'. BUT NO, Aerith killed him. Oh course.
Someone said that if she was a murderer, then she would've let Cloud die at the end of AC. You are correct. I think she wanted what was better for him. She wanted him to live with the crew and TRY to be happy. Marlene may have had a somewhat impact on that. (I think that you as well, SimpleCry)
So, infact that they are calling Aerith a murderer, they should consider all the other people that the other characters have killed in turn. AVALANCHE + big boom = fatalities. No s***! Oh course, no one's going to die from an explosion! DUR!
The characters have also killed random innocent animals that carry around 148 gil and a magic fire ring. What the heck!
The SHM have also killed many people as well. Summoning Buhamut just didn't kill anyone, you know that, you sillies! OF COURSE IT DID! And the monsters that they can summon with their hands as well. You saw one of them start mauling someone (not that they really cared, but still).
They were going to die anyway. Someone said that Aerith's rain could heal and kill (hey, that sounds cool!). Well, it does. It healed all the people with Geostigma, but yet, weakened the SHM. They were going to die anyway from that and not to mention the fight that Cloud had with Sephy that in turn killed Kadaj and the huge explosion that killed Yazoo and Loz.
I think I'm done now ^^
FF_Goddess - December 29, 2006 12:16 AM (GMT)
Yep. *Agrees with N~F* Besides, Nomura confirmed (more than once) in -Reunion Files- that Aerith saved Kadaj. Saved, not murdered. Confirmed, b-otches. :law:
