QUOTE (IGN & Rachel Leigh Cook (Tifa))
I = Interviewer RLC = Rachel Leigh Cook RLC: It's a lot of pressure, it's a lot of pressure. Those fans? They might beat me up in the parking lot, if they don't like what I've done. Final Fantasy fans are hardcore. They're some of the truest fans of anything that I have ever seen, and I hope they like the movie. I: They're great fans-- a little rabid, but great fans... Yeah, we'll defend you if anything happens! RLC: I brought my husband! I just gotta be sure... you know... like I said, if someone roughs me up. *fake deep voice* "What'd you do to Tifa? What've you done?!" I: I can't imagine it's gonna be like that. So when they had you do the voice-overs, how hard is that? Because somebody mentioned to me that you not only have to do the tone, but also match it to the original Japanese? RLC: Sometimes you have to switch the wording around. It's not a very, um... The translation can't be exactly literal because sometimes things take a lot longer and/or shorter to say. So that's kinda difficult, but they can do a lot of things with technology. I mean, if you get within 3/4s of a second-- which is longer than you think!-- of how long a certain line needs to be... They can shrink it or make it larger. They can go in there with their computers and make your voice do just about anything. I: Do you play any of the games for Final Fantasy? Do you play any video games or does your husband...? RLC: I have kind of an addictive personality and I'm just worried that if I got started, it might just be the end of my social life... My marriage... I: I can essentially tell you that is 100% true! *laugh* Because I'm in a similar situation. RLC: [something about the interviewer, can't make out] I: [more AC-unrelated stuff I can't make out] ...So would you do something like this again? RLC: Absolutely, I would love to stay with the franchise and I hope that people who are fans of the game like what I've done with the character. Their approval will decide whether or not I stay onboard. I: Did anybody take you to Japan for any of this stuff? I mean, did you get to go there at all? RLC: How do I get over there? How does that work? I: I'm gonna tell ya, Pitchburg(sp?) TGS-- Tokyo Game Show, where all these Final Fantasy fans would absolutely love for you to be there... Free trip to Japan, right there. RLC: I would love to go to Japan, and I gotta say that video game fans are some of the coolest, sweetest, nicest people and... I'm gonna do it. I: They are, they are... 'till you tell them that their game's... not that good. Then you're in trouble. I've learned-- yeah, hmm... Don't do that, yeah. Anyway, thank you so much for talking with us, and you're gonna love the film. I saw the Japanese version, it's phenomenal. RLC: Yeah, that's why I'm not going to Japan. They already have a version. Almost forgot. I: Still, you'd get stopped every five seconds for autographs. RLC: Well, as long as they like the game. *fade*
QUOTE (IGN & Mena Suvari (Aerith))
I = Interviewer MS = Mena Suvari I: Have you played any of the games before? MS: No. *laughs* I: They didn't force you to do that beforehand? MS: No, this all kinda came about really last minute for me. I'd like to, and I'd probably really suck at them, but... I: It's all about investing time. You wouldn't suck at it, believe me. MS: [something] ...I can pick up after a while. I: You got a chance to see the-- I mean, for the premier, do you guys get to see it beforehand? MS: No, I haven't seen anything. That's, you know... I: I've seen the Japanese version and it is pretty awesome. You're gonna have a great time. I'm sure it's awesome for you, doing all the voices. That being said, how awkward is that? To do voices on a CGI movie? MS: Well, it's very different from anything else that I do. And this was like a beginning for me in this world. They kind of told me what I was doing was the most complicated thing because I wasn't just lending my voice to this character. I was matching the Japanese, so there was so much I had to keep in mind while I was working. Like I was saying, I would do a two-word line, like, 20 times to get it right, because I had to listen to the inflection, the intonation and the voice... I: Yeah, I don't think many people would realise just how much work goes into something like that, unless you obviously experience it. Would you do that again then? MS: Oh yeah, it was a lot of fun. I mean, it's just... The second time I went back, it was easier for me. You just kind of get used to it, and you learn how to listen to yourself in ways I have never done before. But it was a lot of fun, and they're such a great group of people. I'd love to keep doing more of this work. I: Any upcoming future plans with any other stuff? MS: Just right now, I have a film called Standing Still that's premiering next week here... and I've got another film called Broken Rules coming out in September. So, just trucking on. I: Well, thank you so much for stopping by and talking with us. You're gonna have an excellant time at the movie. Thanks again. *fade*
QUOTE (IGN & Steve Burton (Cloud))
I = Interviewer SB = Steve Burton I: Can you tell me a little bit about what you do in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children? SB: Well, I play Cloud. And it's a great project, lots of fun to do. It was my first voice-over for a movie, feature-length, and it's great. It's a lot of fun. I: How impressed were you by the amount of fanboys and fangirls out here for something like this? SB: That's, uh... It's pretty crazy, it's pretty crazy. Sometimes I'll go out and people will say, "Oh, you did the voice of Cloud." and I'd be like, "How do you even know that?" And I know it's kind of a cult following and everyone's heard of Final Fantasy and played the games and stuff, so. It's a great blessing to even be involved and play Cloud, of all characters. I: You got a good character there. Probably one of the cutest ones in there. SB: Coolest character there is, so I was very lucky. I: Did you play any of the games at all? Are you a gamer...? SB: I play a lot of games. Not necessarily PC, but Playstation2, and played every day for a long time. I: We're primarily a gaming site, so that's where everybody's into. SB: Been playing video games since Pong, pretty much. *Someone yells something from the crowd.* SB: Oh yeah, there you go! Atari, TeleVision(sp?)... You remember TeleVision? You're probably too young. I: No, actually, I didn't have a TeleVision. SB: And ClikoVision(sp??) and... You know, everything. I've tried everything. I: Seriously, you've made my night now. With the TeleVision and the Atari bus out there, that was way cool. So would you do something like this again, with the voice-overs? SB: Absolutely, love it. Great work, it's fun. Something new for me. I: And are they trucking you around for something like this in the future? [winging it with this part, since I've only got a slight idea of what she's saying XD;;] SB: I dunno. I: Why don't you go to TGS? It's the Tokyo Game Show-- you can party in Japan. SB: I would love to go to Japan. I: I'm gonna push that for you. SB: Push it! I: I will. Thank you so much, have fun at the movie! *fade*
QUOTE (IGN & Quinton Flynn (Reno))
I = Interviewer QF = Quinton Flynn I: So can you tell me a little bit about the character whose voice you do in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children? QF: Yeah, I play Reno, and he's kind of an edgy, hot-headed, I'll-steal-your-children-if-you're-not-looking kinda guy. *laugh* He's a bit of a villain, right? But he's got a good attitude, great hair and sense of flair. You're gonna love 'im. I: You know, that's another thing. I've actually seen the Japanese version-- there's a lot of flair in this movie. Have you seen it? QF: Yeah, it's real hip, y'know. It's got great action. Obviously the game is always a lot of fun but it's gonna be neat to see, on the big screen, what it looks like as a film. I: And do you play any of the games at all? Are you a gamer? QF: Very little, veeeery little. I'm a big fan as long as they keep me employed. I: Perfect! Hey, at least you're honest! QF: *shrugs* That's it, you know. I wanna do the acting, I'll leave the playing to all of you out there. I: Have you done voice-acting before, or is this your first time? QF: I've been doing it for years. I've done the voice of Johnny Quest, Timon for Disney's Timon & Pumba, Speed Racer, Paul McCartney... You name it. Pick a name! I: So you've done everything? QF: Pretty much. As long as I can. I: So you would do this again, then? If they ended up coming up with a sequel to any of these Final Fantasy games? QF: Yeah, I actually did a couple of Final Fantasies before this, as well as some other video games like Metal Gear Solid 2, where I played Raiden. I'm working on an ActiveVision game for Marvel, where I play Spiderman, which is kinda fun. I get to play Peter Parker, my personal hero and there's just a lot of stuff going on. So, sure. They have another one? Bring me on! I: How does a non-gamer, essentially, get involved with gaming voice-overs? How does that occur? QF: Well, it's all acting, regardless of the medium. It's like radio theatre. The same way you voice-act for radio or for animation or television, stage... The only difference is the medium. If you turn the camera right off now, you and I would be doing what's considered 'voice-acting'. We'll be telling a story, voice-only. I: So you've done this for a couple of years, so it's probably really easy for you. But do you get tripped off? I know a lot of people that do it for the first time have, um... It's a lot more intricate than they think it is. Is that a problem? QF: Not for me, because this is what I've been doing for many years, and I'm trained. But I think for some of the on-camera actors who, you know... try the voice-over game, to them it may be a little bit more difficult. I: So are you pretty surprised by the amount of fans that came out here for this? At all? QF: *looks around... and around...* I: Come on, now! Unfortunately, they totally took off! QF: (sarcastically) Yeah, it's amazing! You should see behind the camera! No, no, stop it! ...Yeah. No, it's great, I am surprised. But I know, through the fans who contacted me via the Internet, that there's a HUGE group of folks out there who love what's going on. And that's kinda nice. I: I myself am a huge fan of the whole series, so... QF: Are you? I: Oh, HUGE fan. I imported all the toys and everything from Japan, and... QF: Did you get a preview of this game? You've already played it, huh? I: This is Final Fantasy VII, so this game has been out for years. I don't actually get previews to games yet, but because I imported my one thing from Japan, I got to see the Japanese version of the movie before the English dub came out. QF: Seen the English dub yet? I: No, not yet. QF: *to the camera* It's gonna be a surprise to her as well. I: I'm really excited. I'm REALLY excited. QF: Awesome. I: Well, thank you so much for talking with us, and I'm sure they're ready to get the show started for ya, so... QF: Thanks. *fade*
