The company's name was changed to "Square-Enix" when Squaresoft and Enix merged (I believe it was Enix that bought over Squaresoft).

If your question is asking which name we like better, I most prefer Squeenix-- short, current and even a bit cute. XD

Company-wise, I believe FFX-2 was in production even before Squaresoft merged with Enix, so I can't say Enix is solely to blame for that fiasco. If their merging also brought about DQVIII's English release, then I'm happy for that too. No idea how much of Enix's influence was involved in the current FFVII-whoring, or whether it's a result of Sakaguchi leaving.

Its true, when FFX-2 was released in Japan it was under the name "Squaresoft". I'd say Square Enix because thanks to that, Europe will get our first ever Dragon Quest on Wednesday to come ^_^

I think thought that the FFVII stuff was in mind before Enix came over though. I mean, AC was thought about in 2003.

Enix had a lot of good games (Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile and Dragon Quest). I am happy they joined forces as well.

When I first played Final Fantsay Seven, it said Squaresoft on the credits. Squaresoft gets my vote, though Europe may get their products earlier thanks to Squeenix, I actually onlt play FF7 and FF8, and Kingdom Hearts, which are already out. :lol:

I really don't get everyones arguement. SquareEnix is a money whore? Just about every company out there is a money whore. If it isn't dead then it's trying its hardest to make money. Thats how just about every Videogame Company is.

And you can't blame Square-Enix for making a bunch of fan service games and etc. You know why? Because all you people just eat it up. If you were to ignore the useless fanservice games, they wouldn't be so focused on fanservice and thier attention would be focused on more important things like storyline, etc. So for all you that say S-E is all about fanservice, it's because YOU BOUGHT FFX-2 and Advent Children.

And I know many fans who didn't buy FFX-2 because it was what it was. Sqare themselves said it was an experimental game, and really only girls and horny guys enjoyed it. I wouldn't be surprised if Squeenix came out with "FF Extreme Beach Volleyball" one day, because FFX-2 was pretty damn close.

As for the whole FFVII Compilation, just one word: crappy. Now, if SE had made clear cut conclusions within the compilation, it'd be a whole different story. All I have right now is the original FFVII game. Of course, I'll be buying AC as soon as it comes out...just 'cos it concludes Cloud's story and FFVII. I don't even own KH, am NOT buying KH2...NOT buying DOC...don't care for BC...and will only consider CC IF it comes out on the PS3 and if SE makes any clear cut conclusions. Frankly, I'm just sick and tired of this whole "we're not going to spell it out for you 'cos we want you to think about it" deal. Why support the rest of the compilation? It'll just be the same thing repeated over 'n over: "we want you to think about it".

Anyways, I didn't vote --- because they're all the same to me. Of course, I loved the good old days of Squaresoft, but Square-Enix has churned out some pretty decent games as well.

As for the entire FFVII Compilation, I'll have to agree with Lynn and Hades Daughter.
AC was good in some ways. I don't know enough about DOC, but it doesn't look very appealing yet at this stage. First-person shooters aren't quite my type. I might buy it though....or just download all the FMVs. :razz: I'm still considering KH2, but I'm definitely not going for BC. I don't know enough about CC yet, and if it's on the PS3 I won't be able to play it. I do know that I definitely won't buy it if it's about the Nibelheim incident - yet again. If they come up with another game to 'wrap up' the compilation, I highly doubt I'll play it.

I do feel that they are milking things too much out of FF7. There's only so much one can take before putting his foot down. *puts on shoe* :razz:

I'm just gonna base this answer on which of the names I like best rather than go into any deeper examination of the state of the company or the games that they did under each title.

I tend to go back to the days of Square and Squaresoft, and it's pretty common for me to still just call them Square in real life. After the name change to SquareEnix, my father immediately came up with the nickname Square *enis. I'm sure you guys can fill in the blank. That's stuck in my head ever since, and now I can't even think Square Enix without remembering that nickname.

Well, I like the SNES Squaresoft and Enix games back in the day. Brings back the good memories...and now they combine. You can say that I like Square-Enix.

I like Square-Enix better don't know why but it just has this weird ring to it :sweat:

SquareEnix is way better than Square and Squaresoft. It also had new text that was better also. I like it. Squaresoft and Square are so back in the day.

About Square-Enix being money whores, eh, I don't really see it that way. Yeah, direct sequels for the Final Fantasy's can be ridiculous and maybe they are milking FFVII's name, but you know what? I don't buy those. Everybody makes sequels to games. To be honest I have always been surprised Square didn't do it before. I still enjoy their games, but as far as direct sequels go, I just pick and choose with them. I stick with the main console RPG games (and some of the other stuff, as Tactics is still a classic and they need to do more @_@).

I actually take a bit of offense to the whole comment about the only people liking X-2 were horny guys. That's not cool. I may be a guy, but I'm not some idiot who drools over game characters all the time and buys games solely on that. I also thought DOA volleyball was a stupid idea myself. I ENJOYED X-2. I generally liked the battle system. More then one of them attacking at once in the animations and I got a real challange out of the final levels of the dungeon. Yes, the pop music and some of the fanservice was a little too much, but I don't complain about it when the game is solid nor do I really look at that period.

I think that enix made a budget reduction on ffx-2 project , thus making it the poor remake version we know tought the game could had been an epic one, for start I tought that the leaders of the 3 factions where going to be the bad guys etc...

Also I can bet that enix are a huge bunch of cloti's wich would explain alot on retracting nomuras intentions etc.. about Aeris cause its pretty obvious that Nomura its a Clerith too but he is not allowed to say it cause it would go bad on the fan bitching politics of square enix.
