Ooh, thank you! ^_^

I wasn't very impressed by the clips I heard in the commercials I've seen, but I'm hoping in grows on me. ):

I've been wanting the song anyway to see if there's something more to it so like MT said it can grow on me :P

Thank you so much yin-chan :huggle:

Thanks again! ^^

Lyrics, BTW

Sanctuary
In you and I there's a new land,
Angels in flight.
My sanctuary. My sanctuary Yeah.
Where fears and lies melt away.
Music inside.
What's left of me.
What's left of me now.

I watch you fast asleep,
all I fear means nothing.

In you and I there's a new land,
Angels in flight.
My sanctuary. My sanctuary. Yeah.
Where fears and lies melt away.
Music inside.
What's left of me.
What's left of me now.

My heart is a battleground

You show me how to see,
that nothing is whole and nothing is broken,

In you and I there's a new land
Angels in flight.
My sanctuary. My sanctuary. Yeah.
Where fears and lies melt away.
Music inside.
What's left of me.
What's left of me now.

This will take awhile getting used to, though.

Thanks yin-chan! Hmm... I still prefer the way Utada sings in 'Passion' than in 'Sanctuary'. Here she sounds a bit... laughable. And I'm sad that they removed some back-up vocals for the English version. (just listen to both the English and the Japanese version and you'll see what I mean).

Yeah, it's gonna take getting used to.

Yeah I noticed that too! It added a lot to the song and it made her voice sound so..melodic? XD

I dislike how they did the English counterpart for the section in the song that goes "hito shirezu, my heart's a battleground." It sounded really weak and strange.

Materia Thief - March 30, 2006 08:01 AM (GMT)
I honestly just don't like Sanctuary. It sounds like it was slapped together at the last moment (although it's said that this song was written first, before Passion). :/

Evenstar - March 30, 2006 08:47 AM (GMT)
You could watch the English version of the KH2 Intro here:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=RNAwNhlcYN4&sea...s%202%20english

I dunno, the Intro seems different in English and without the extra back-up vocals. The Japanese version had more of an impact on me than this one. Even if I watched the Japanese one many times, it never failed to impress me.

Passion is better.

I think Sanctuary is good. Not great, but good.

Same reaction to Hikari's Simple and Clean, come to think of it.

I find myself wishing Hikki added more words to her lyrics though. I mean what's wrong with "are melting away", instead of prolonging the "melt awaaaaaaay"?

Yer. It's almost like she couldn't find anything better to fill in the lyrical gaps so she just decided to draw out some words and scatter various "yeah"s and such all over the place. :/

Luna-Nayru - March 30, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
I agree with pretty much all of the posts here--I liked Passion better. But I'm trying to let Sanctuary grow on me. I like the lyrics a lot better than I liked Simple and Clean, but I agree that S&C and Hikari had a better musical flow. As for putting them into KH2... the intro movie was better planned for Passion, that much is clear. I absolutely loved the synchronization of the "mirai wa" part with Kairi and Naminé's lips, and I agree with Key that the "hito shirezu" part was much more effective in the Japanese version. Little things like that really contributed to me getting chills almost every time I watched the Japanese intro. Either I'm losing the hype, or the English version's just not as good. :/

But, yin-chan, you are totally my hero for posting it up for rabids like me to download.

I just heard this song on a KH2 commercial. Very nice! ^_^

Tacofoolio - March 31, 2006 05:41 PM (GMT)
Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I actually like it, lol. I don't spend a lot of energy comparing the two, and enjoy both for what they are, and to me, it was still very effective in the intro. I just got the game, and am gonna start it tonight with my husband, with the almighty limited edition strategy guide, so I might have more of an opinion when actually playing the game, aka, watching the game because I always watch RPGs like movies as someone plays, lol.

I agree. I was just commenting to my cousin that I hated how she prolonged the words...it sounded too rushed...and after hearing it and Passion, I honestly lean more towards Passion. They should have left it in Japanese, especially if they were going to leave the BACKGROUND vocals in Japanese...well not background but...the Japanese parts.

Bottom line...I just dont like it. She could have taken a lot more time doing it...Utada is really an excellent artist...I had more faith in her.

^ There are no Japanese parts though. There are lyrics reversed, but they're all in English. The lines in the my heart's a battle ground are,

So many ups and downs (backward)
My heart's a battleground
I need two/true emotions (backward)
I need more affection than you know (backward)
I need two/true emotions(backward)

^I don't know if it's two or true, I get them mixed up.

But I agree, I like Passion more, Sanctuary After the Battle (the version that plays at the ending) sounds much much better. It's almost like Sanctuary was made for the slower version

You can hear this version on youtube but it has major spoilers since it's the KH2 ending, should I post the link in the spoiler section?

Jazzabsurdity - April 2, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
Passion seemed to flow more than Sanctuary. Yet, I guess it is hard to convert a japanese song to an English song and make it sound spectacular..Don't get wrong!! 0-0. I still loved Sanctuary ^^~!! Passion just sounded.....more..right. : 3

No problem, but I wasn't the one who found it out, my friend was the one who told me

It does sound a little cooler reversed, though I wish she would have left the "So many Ups and Down" alone, adding that extra reversed line seemed to overdo it.

I think everyone is overanalyzing it... It's just a song... An awesome one at that.

I got KH2 today. Yeah, believe me. I scared myself too when I did.

I started it up as my sceptic self and I hear this song for the opening. My God... It's amazing. There is no pop overtones that made me dislike Simple And Clean so much. I found this song to be absolutely awesome. And I don't think I'd be as eager to play the rest of it as if they used a horrid pop song for the opening movie.

So anyway. People have their tastes. But I prefer this song over any KH song anyday. +100 cool points for Square.

God... So addicted to this song. @_@ I don't see why everyone is hating on it so much.

Lynn - April 3, 2006 05:44 AM (GMT)
Just popped in the DVD to test it, watched the opening...

I think it's a fine song. It certainly sounds different if you compare it to Passion, being in English and having different lyrics; but on its own, I thought it sounded good enough.

I was most worried that they wouldn't match the parts where Kairi and Namine sang the lyrics with the English version, but I should've known SE wouldn't slack in that department. ^^

So thank you for the download, yin-chan!

Mmm, honestly I only prefer Passion because I can sing along with that one :P Personally, I like Sanctuary alot, and the opening FMV gave me chills. It works fine with me!

I love the middle techno part, the part that isn't in the Japanese version. I love the "My heart's a battleground', so cool. ^_^
