cloud_n_aerith_strife - March 22, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
that's awesome, I wish they would do something like that for us here in ny. I pre ordered the english version on saturday, but I wonder if it's the special edition............ I didn't think to ask and I didn't pay much attention to it. I already have the japanese version though

Difinity - March 23, 2006 07:36 AM (GMT)
I'm planning on attending the screening since I only live around 20 mins from LA. I just hope I can get the tickets at the right time, or I might have to ditch school to go! :lmao:

Imaginary__girl - March 23, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
That sounds so awesome! I wish I could go...but since I'm all the way in the east coast...chances are slim for me... :(

Meggie - March 24, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
Oh Difinity you are so lucky :D
I wish i could go too but i live in Europe...

Difinity - March 31, 2006 12:01 AM (GMT)
So anyone from these forums planning to attend? I might go with my brothers or I might go alone. I'm only 16 and I can't drive yet so the big problem is GETTING there to grab a ticket. I'm ditching school that day to get tickets anyway. XD

If any folks here are planning to attend, I'd love to meet you there!

Schala - March 31, 2006 01:21 AM (GMT)
It's a pity I don't live in Los Angeles! Oh well, I'll have to settle for the DVD or PSP movie. Maybe both... :P

might - March 31, 2006 05:40 AM (GMT)
Difinity, i am so going to be there. Taking my younger brother with me. Don't want to go alone. I am ditching my morning college class just to get the ticket. Gah so excited!!

Sefie - March 31, 2006 06:47 PM (GMT)
Bah! I live in Sacramento, way too far away <_< Curse you SEeeeeiiii..

nyrin - April 4, 2006 02:56 PM (GMT)
They've posted a review of the Screening right here! And also some English VAs attended the screening too, as well as Nomura himself!

Lynn - April 4, 2006 04:00 PM (GMT)
Soooo... How did the screening go, Lucky People Who Went? :giggle:

I'm expecting a twenty-page report on your reactions to the voice acting, translations and-- gasp!-- Cloud speaking ENGALADISH!

Yes, and please tell us that Mena improved her voice acting. PLEASE!

Aftermath of Jenova said they all did an incredible job! :woot:

the aftermath of jenova
Wow, today was just amazing. I actually got to meet Tetsuya Nomura in person. WOW, JUST WOW.

Now onto the voice acting:

I was so surprised as how Mena Suvari did SUCH a wonderful job as Aerith. Her voice was so beautiful, it totally overpowered her voice in KH2. every line was said with such lightness/softness that it almost matched Maaya Sakamoto's tone. seriously, the softness of her tone was completely absent in KH2, but comes back full force in Advent Children.

Cloud’s voice was just wonderful. Steve Burton IS CLOUD. Seriously, his voice was so good that I was almost mistaking it from Takahiro Sakurai [well not really, but it was just that good. His closer line was beautifully done…it was just awesome.

Reno’s voice was by far my favorite voice. It was so full of character and humor and the one matched Keji Fujiwara’s perfectly. His voice was so animated; personally, I thought that he had the best voice in the entire movie. This one line especially stood out. Loz was telling Reno how he shouldn’t “talk bad about mother” and then rude answered by saying “sorry…” and then Reno was like “Yeah. Sorry, your mom is cool. WAIT WHAT THE HELL AM I SAYING??? RAWR!” it was awesome.

Kadaj’s voice was sooooooooo goooood. Steven Staley really captured the slight insanity of Kadaj’s tone so well. I was seriously impressed by the perfect voice match.

Loz’s voice was also really well done. Especially the part where he said “I’m NOT CRYIGN!” it was really awesome.

Barret had a hilarious voice. There was one line where he went “Yo Cloud, whattup foo?” when Cloud was driving to the Healing Lodge. It was really funny, but I guess it fits Barret’s character lol.

Vincent’s voice was so deep, rough, and sexy. I really love Steven Blum and put all my faith into him doing justice for Vincent…and he DID! It was so…I dunno…word cannot describe how wonderful it was.

Christy Carlson Romano…IS YUFFIE. Seriously, even Mae Whitman [kh2 yuffie’s voice actor] cannot compare to the genius of Romano’s voice. My god, I loved Yuffie’s voice in KH1 and I’m still lovin’ it in Advent Children.

Rufus had such a smooth and sexy voice. Wally wingert really did a wonderful job matching his tone to Toru Ohkawa. I loved it.

Yazoo’s voice was…weird. It seemed like his VA tried to intentionally make him sound very gay…or something strange like that.

Cait Sith had a Scottish accent. Uh..no comment.

Red XIII had a British accent…yes.

Cid’s voice, even though he received a LOT of negative comments from kh2, was really really really good in Advent Children. His southern vulgar accent really fit his personality; Christ Edgerly did Cid IMMENSE justice.

SEPHIROTH’S VOICE WAS DRIPPING WITH SEX. I was so surprised that George Newbern could sound so sinister/deadly/hot with his voice [considering he was the voice of uh...Superman. yeah]. When he said “Good to see you again, Cloud”, I nearly died. His voice was just THAT good.

Marlene had the cutest voice ever. It was even cuter than the Japanese va’s voice. Seriously, it was incredibly adorable.

Denzel was…just…AWESOME. He actually said [after tifa got knocked out from the Bahamut Sin thing] “YOU SON OF A BITCH! RAWRRR!”

Wow, I would write a LOT more, but I’m callin’ it quits. Feel free to ask any kind of question and I’ll be happy to answer asap.

Overall, today was the best day of my life [thus far

nyrin - April 5, 2006 12:19 AM (GMT)
That entire thing made me squee. I'm especially pumped to hear Cloud!! <3 I guess accents can work for Red XIII and Cait. I mean we can't expect them all to sound like they're from LA :P

This is the only thing that really grated on me:

"Whattup foo?" So what, did they pick up a stereotypical racial linguistics book and check out the African American section? I realize that's the way they did it in the game, but I always took offense to how Barret talked since *points to self* I'm black, and not now nor have I ever sounded like I belong in a rap video. I was hoping they'd fix that in AC. Make Barret sound gruff without including the silly 'ghetto wannabe-street talk' (I mean wasn't it that way in the japanese version?). *sigh* Hopefully it doesn't happen to often.

But besides that this was really great to read C-strife! I'm a bit skeptical since her review was a little too glowing, but who knows, maybe it really was that good!

OMG PLEASE ppl, the second you find a rip for the English version online, post the link here! I mean, I'm definitely going to buy it when it comes out on dvd but I NEED TO SEE IT IN ENGLISH!! *dies*

cloud_n_aerith_strife - April 5, 2006 01:25 AM (GMT)
I have to agree with u about barrett nyrin (I'm black myself and don't sound like that) but I heard that mena improved drastically, I heard she did such a wonderful job on AC. I am so glad to hear that because the reviews for KH2 was so terrible. It comes out on the 25th so I will be waiting to hear those English voices.

yin-chan - April 5, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)

might - April 5, 2006 06:28 AM (GMT)
well yeah i was there and it was great! I was so excited and i loved it till the end it had me smiling till the end. The voices of Cloud, Aerith, Tifa and Yuffie were okay not much a biggie to me. IMO.

Quintin Flynn was pure genius when it came to Reno's voice. He so brought him to life. Rude was excellent! Crispin Freeman brought him to life indeed! Dave Wittenberg as Yazoo i think he did great. Cause he gave him like this i am sexy yet creepy tone. I liked it. Steve Staley as Kadaj all i will say he did fantastic! He was perfect he brought Kadaj to life. ^^ Steve blum was fantastic, loved his voice. Always do. Well i loved the whole work put in it i think it is lovely =3 And i keep on repeating they all brought them to life. =p Well can't wait to get my copy now after watching it on that big screen. ^^

Kuki Prower - April 5, 2006 10:06 AM (GMT)
I am from Scotland, therefore I am Scottish and British and when I see AC I will PROVE whether they are those accents. I assume that from British though the person meant an English accent

Remember people, Britain is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

Anastar - April 5, 2006 05:02 PM (GMT)
For anyone interested, there's three different reviews of the screening at these sites:

http://mmorpg.qj.net/Final-Fantasy-VII-Adv...pg/49/aid/14289

I just skimmed through the articles, but I didn't see any big spoilers.

Sefie - April 5, 2006 05:45 PM (GMT)
:lmao: Cait Sith Scottish? Red English? :lmao: I've gotta hear this!

Great to hear that the VA's did such a good job! I'm sure glad to hear Mena's improved her portrayal of Aeris

Key - April 5, 2006 07:19 PM (GMT)
I couldn't get to go cause my friends had class and work (damn) but one of my friend's friend went with his friends (whew, what a mouthful) and they apparently weren't able to get seats because it was toooo crowded or some shite.

They also said that the people who were able to attend will be receiving the Advent Children DVD for free--can anyone confirm this? oO

might - April 5, 2006 10:05 PM (GMT)
Actually no one got the DVD they gave us a poster and the Official soundtrack, not the DVD, even though that would have been awesome. Anyways if they did give out the DVD for free then hey they wouldn't be making any profit ya? They were generous enough to give out a free viewing of it. 10 lucky fans got a nice gift bag while the rest of us only like i said a movie poster and the movie cd. Which was nice. :cloud:

Hell, I'd prefer the movie poster and soundtrack over the DVD... since I woulda been buying the DVD when it came out anyway. XD

C-strife - April 5, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
Everyone gets such a well casted voice actor EXCEPT Aerith. >< I just don't get how Nomura is cruel the Aerith fans...

might - April 6, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
Nomura is not responsible for the voices they gave the characters for the english casting. The one who is distrubutiing the game and well i think i blame BVG cause they are the ones who mostly pick the VAs, and i know that since KH2 had already the casting and they had Mena on the list they had no choice but to use her cause well it would have been weird for the movie Aerith to sound different from the game. Even though they seriously casted the wrong person >_< I don;t think everyone got a a well casted voice. I mean Tifa for me personally did not feel right or Yuffie. Cloud's was so so and Sepiroth sounded to of a goody good to me. IMO Yeah....

Didn't they say Nomura hand picked the voice actors? I could've sworn they said that. o.O

i never heard or read anything about that. Probably it was the Japanese cast that you are talking about. I mean why would he choose the american cast?

cloud_n_aerith_strife - April 7, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
I can't believe New York didn't have a screening, that really sucks.
