Title: Ff Patterns

Have you ever noticed that in every FF the Cid has something to do with airships? Or that the main female/love interest is a white mage in some way? There's so many patterns in FF that I've noticed, and would love to hear what everybody else has seen!

Good call about Cid and the airship, Sefie. Never noticed that before.

All recent main hero characters in the FF games have been guys with unruly blondish hair and a blue outfit. Squall had the hair, but not the outfit.

Every lead female character since FF7 seems to be a physical/personality morph between Aeris and Tifa.

I noticed that too! Tifa's looks, Aeris' personality and story. Except Yuna, she was just Aeris

Every femme has been 'special' in some way. Aeris was the last Ancient, the one whole summoned Holy to save Gaia and guided the Lifestream. Rinoa inherited the Sorceress powers and had an angelic theme. Garnet was a princess, very giftef with magic, and had the special eidolin thingies (can't remember how to spell that for the life of meh). Yuna was the high summoner who defeated Sin and was also connected to the spirit of Lenne, a summoner who died 1,000 years previously. Yuna also had a special relationship to the fayth, who allowed her and Tidus to be together again.

There is always a cheerful one, the lead female, who captures the hero's heart and changes his life. Examples would be: Aeris, Rinoa, Garnet and Yuna.

Then there is a reserved girl, who has had bad experiences with love: Examples of this would be: Tifa, Quistis, Freya, Lulu and Paine. Possibly Edea.

A third type, the spunky, cutesy gal who's feisty, a go-get-em type. This would include: Yuffie, Selphie, Eiko and Rikku.

Lastly, a faint fourth type exists, a non-playable yet beloved woman. This includes but is not limited to: Elena, Lucrecia, Scarlet, Fujin, Ellone, Raine, Beatix, Yunalesca, and Donna. They are typically either former or present foes to the party (not serious ones) or somehow linked to the main girl or guy.

Ooh! Ooh! Lead guys have earrings at the left ear!

.... oh wait, does Zidane have it? O_o

Sefie - January 1, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
Zidane doesn't even have EARS

wilhelm - January 1, 2005 05:08 AM (GMT)
I think he does, just covered by hair :P If you look at the Amano art of Zidane you can see somethying hanging down from his left ear.

Sefie - January 1, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
*Laughs* I know, I know. You can actually see them in the FMV where they go through the big gate and his hair's flying everywhere. It's just funny cuz you hardly ever get to see them.

I noticed, Nomura has a habit of putting a earring to lead characters...

Does anyone remember if Sora from Kingdom Hearts have an earring though??

Sora is still just a little kiddie, and little kiddies do not have earrings. :P

But I want the next lead male have an earring in both of his ears, not just one. <_<

Bleh! Kids nowdays, as soon as they're 10 years old they feel the need to look and act like they would be 20 years old.

But Sora looks cute in that picture, if only he would just grow old bit faster as I want to see what he looks like when he's 20. ^_^

I've never known a little boy kiddie with earrings actuall-wait, no. There was this poor little two year old who had long braided hair and earrings in both ears. His mother said he was constantly mistaken for a girl, but she never seemed to DO anything about it. Poor little guy, he's gonna get SO teased.

But yes, I do agree with Adina. Guys in earrings are sexy

There's a lot of fun FF pattern. I've played every Final Fantasy game, and in FFs 4 to 10, their are a lot of patterns. Every ff game has guys and girls with similar personalities. The main ff guy usually uses a sword. The main boy usually has a deep secret in their past. Their are usually three girls and the three girls have similar personalities. There's the white mage one whose great with magic, talkative and kind, the fighter whose good at fighting whose more reserved and the young one whose very young and comical. Also the FF characters often have personalities resembling each other.

Sunsets.....
Square loves sunsets! Mostly all the romantic scenes have a sunset.

VII: Aeris and Cloud in Cosmo Canyon, when Aeris was talking to Cloud about how she was the only Cetra left. I thought it was romantic when Cloud said, "But I...we are with you." (or something like that.) There was also the highwind scene, but it isn't Cloris related so I'll shut my mouth.
VIII: Rinoa and Squall embraced each other during a sunset! So cute!
IX: In the end, Garnet and Zidane reunited after he was thought to be dead, during a sunset I believe.
X: Tidus and Yuna were having a cute conversation as they rested near Rin's shop at Mi'ihen road.
X-2: If you get the perfect ending, Yuna and Tidus stand in front of the ruins of Zanarkand at a sunset.

Ex-boyfriends, ex-lovers, ex-crushes, etc....
In VII, VIII, and X there was the 'ex' thing. The herione had an ex-boyfriend of sorts.

VII: Aeris and Zack
VIII: Rinoa once loved Seifer
IX: I don't think there was the 'ex' factor here.
X: Yuna was briefly married to Seymour, so he is like her ex-husband, i guess.

There's always *that* same piece of song, the one where the staff credits roll and a happy, but sentimental song comes up. In FF7 it's called 'Staff Roll', in FF8 it's called... err 'Staff Roll' as well I guess and in FF9 it's called 'Final Fantasy'. Not sure of FFX, tho...

FF3 - 'The Epilogue' of the game, but a very different version of it. It sounds more of a happy j-pop anime song...

FF4 - 'The Prologue' of the game

FF5 - As a prelude after Cecil gets sacked from the army (and a written storyline scrolls by)

FF6 - At the 17th minute of the painstakingly looong 21 minutes ending theme

FF7 - At the ending of game, when the staff's credits roll by.

FF8 - Same as above

FF9 - Same as above

FF protagonists have always been self-centered. I don't mean that negatively. I just mean that all their major decisions in the plot have something to do with their personal past and present hurts, guilts, moral dilemmas...always about themselves And the love interests always become a big part of the hero's agenda, part of everything that matters to him. It occurs FF after FF: Cloud and Aerith, Squall and Rinoa, Zidane and Dagger, and Tidus and Yuna(haven't played 10 yet but I've heard my friends talking) I can't believe Clotis haven't noticed that Cloud and Aerith follow this pattern so much more than Cloud and Tifa do ^_^

Aprillis - March 29, 2005 05:14 AM (GMT)
Yeah, and all the female lead have a certain past to them or an important task in the game.

Terra - Half-esper
Aerith - Last of the Cetra race
Rinoa - A soceress from an ancient line
Garnet - Last of the summoner race
Yuna - A summoner to defeat Sin

...and guess what? They're all mages/summoners! Now where does Tifa (the so-called heroine of FFVII <_< ) fits in, hmm?

TidusBlankety - March 29, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
uh tidus has both ears pierced i think? Ahahaha teh white mage thing I never really noticed, but what about Locke and Celes? Celes...well....she was kinda a white mage...but locke was no warrior, and he wasnt blonde...wait...wait....ok Am I the only one wo noticed but, in lcoke's charset he has grey hair, in the menu the bandana is over his head, and in the HMV his hair is blonde....did only I notice????

Velvy - May 31, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
Hero / Heroine are *always* opposites.

Aeris / Cloud, Rinoa / Squall, Garnet / Zidane, Yuna / Tidus... They're all different, and their differences compliment one another (X-2 is a fine example of that--look at Yuna, sporting Tidus's hair and the Zanarkand symbol!). In fact, notice after VIII, the formula is flipped. It used to be the heroine was light and airy, and the hero dark and brooding. Now (in IX and X) the hero is cheerful and the heroine is more reserved.

The hair of the heroines also has a pattern. It started light (Terra, Celes), then darker, but still long (Aeris), then dark and thick (Rinoa, Garnet) and gradually got shorter (Garnet cuts her hair, Yuna) and lighter (Ashe).

Heroines always sport a necklace of some kind (Aeris -- choker, Rinoa -- Promise Ring, Garnet -- Crystal, Yuna -- that necklace...). I would say all the heroes sport some bling bling, but then there's Zidane...

There are always three girls, one heroine, one hyper girl, one lowkey girl. See hence:

Aeris = heroine, Yuffie = hyper, Tifa = lowkey
Rinoa = heroine, Selphie = hyper, Quistis = lowkey
Garnet = heroine, Eiko = hyper, Freya = lowkey
Yuna = heroine, Rikku = hyper, Lulu = lowkey / Paine = lowkey
Ashe = heroine, Penelo = hyper, Fran = lowkey

Never changes.

I suppose we could turn almost anything into a pattern if we would really wish to, but the one thing that really is the mother of all patterns in the Final Fantasy games is what Velvy mentioned, that all our heroes and heroines are completely opposites (personality wise, usually) and yet they fall in love at some point of the game, although Final Fantasy VII was refreshing in the sense that they did not end up together as our poor heroine died before that could happen.
