I thought Mandy did an excellent job. I almost think Mena sounds kinda ditzy. XD It sounds like she's trying to make a voice rather than use her own, which she shouldn't considering her natural voice is really nice. Anyways, I watched some of that damn Riku clip! >< They friggen put like huge spoilers in one little interview! <_<

To be honest, I'm not really that impressed with Tifa's or Aeris's VA's. Maybe it's too early to judge, but still... I didn't find their VA's vocal 'contributions' to be what I expected of the characters they're portraying.

Tifa sounds too girly for me. I expected her to sound stronger, but still with a feminine charm. Her voice kinda reminds me of Mandy Moore's voice for Aeris in KH1. :mellow: As in, too light and sorta childish for the type of character she's playing. As for Mena Suvari... it sounds like Mena is trying to sound more softer. Eh, it sounds weird to me. Like Yuna's voice in FFX. I think her voice is just lacking the strong emotion I thought Aeris would've had in her voice.

Mena's voice grated on me just a little bit. I think you're right in that she's trying to make a voice rather than use her own, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, if you listen to Maaya Sakamoto's speaking voice, her voice in other roles (like in Rahxephon) and Aerith's voice, you can tell that she was sort of doing the same thing (her Aerith voice seems higher, lighter and more airy than her natural voice I think.). I think the problem here is that when Mena tried to do her Aerith voice, she pushed it just a little too far, and it became kind of...stiff.

But I think she has potential to be a great Aerith. She just needs to relax it a little bit more and make it feel more natural. Maybe she'll get more practice before AC?

Oh and my god is David Gallagher as Riku just the perfect match? :fangirl: Both are sexy beasts. Sexy, sexy, beasts. Hell, even David admitted Riku was hot :lol:

Well...can't say I like Aeris's voice that much. Like others above said, it sounded like she was trying to create another voice instead of her own and it ended up sounding really monotone. Tifa's is not as bad, and Rachel seems to have grasped Tifa's character really well. :lol: lol. But i can't help thinking how different they are from the Japanese VAs. It's certainly neither of their fault for not getting the character's exactly right, SE chose them, but it seemed like SE chose them more based on how much they look like the character. :unsure:

Sora's voice sounds just right, and Riku... :fangirl: I'm so excited! It's nice to see that the voices are being done; I was wondering how long it would take before KH2 was released in the US! But I'm starting to think that Aerith will never sound the way I visualized her to sound. The Japanese voice is too high, and the English one just doesn't capture her spirit (I thought the clip in the interview made her sound a little too ditzy...)

Welps, my opinion is... they could've chosen better, but I'm pretty satisfied. ^_^ However... some areas kinda irk me. :ermm:

For Rachael -- I think she did an 'okay' job. To be honest, her voice wasn't at all what I expected for Tifa. I agree with R_E -- she kinda sounds too girly. Maybe if the voice was a little deeper and serious (but of course, sensitive, but imo Rachael did a lot of that), like Ayumi Ito. I think there's a BIG difference between those voices. It sort of portrays Tifa as a childish girl from what I heard on there...

For Mena -- I actually think she's a pretty good choice for Aerith. But she does try to make her voice change -- at least sounds like it -- by being softer on Aerith's voice and more mature in her normal voice when she was being interviewed. I guess I can say that I kinda do like who they chose for her, but... I derno... I'm being real honest here... she sounds a lil artificial... She does have a graceful touch in her voice, but like what R_E said -- she needs more emotion.

I think Mena makes a great Aeris. She sounds exactly like I imagnined Aeris would sound. :)

Mena Suvari's voice is a little more...higher than expected. i mean, if she used her regular speaking voice to do Aerith, then that itself would have been PERFECT, but she uses some strange higher-pitch one that makes Aerith sound a little off.

I've viewed Steve, Hedy, Tara, & Gwendoline's interviews! ^_^ They were sososo cute... but the way Gwendoline speaks naturally is kind of... welps, I don't know how to say it. :wacko:

For Mena's voice, it sounded like she was trying too hard to sound 'pretty' and 'light', and just ended up sounding forced, I think Aeris should sound more natural.

For Rachel's voice, her voice is actually harsher than I thought it would be, for Tifa I'd think her voice would need to be a little lighter, softer, but then yet not as soft as Aeris' needs to be. Rachel, did however, nail it when she said "Sorry to bother you". :mellow:

Roxas' voice was PERFECT.

That's really all I have to say, everyone else was just 'okay'. ^_^

Kairi's voice actress had to have her voice sound lighter too. So what? Mena's voice is believable for Aeris's role unlike Mandy. Besides, everyone has heard less than five seconds of Mena's voice as Aeris's.

I think Tifa's Japanese voice actress suits her much better than Rachel. But hey. At least it isn't Mandy Moore. She was MORE than a mistake.

The first time I heard her voice, I had mix feelings, but the more I listen to it, the more I grow to like it. So, I think Mena will do just fine, Cloud's VA sounds good too.

I thought Rachel did a good job too. "Let me just take a look around" and "Spikier" were spot-on.

I think the real test for Rachel and Steve will be during the Sephiroth confrontation. Here's hoping to not messing up!

Some of you might skewer me for this, but I thought Mena's "airy" voice sounded similar to what Maaya did for Aerith in Japanese-- in that they're both purposefully using a higher pitch for her voice.

I think Mena will be able to handle Aerith's character. I admit I'm much more fussy for her (and Cloud, but that goes without saying :P) than for Tifa's VA, just because she's Aerith and my favourite female and her voice just absolutely HAS to be perfection itself. :giggle: But I'm hopeful.

Tifa and Aerith's VAs are so-so in the clips, I'm sure it'll be better with the final product or at least when AC comes around. Mena's voice does sound a little too forced, her regular voice, as in the voice she was using while talking in the interview, sounds perfect for Aerith. I will miss Mandy Moore a bit though since I thought she did a good job of playing Aerith too. Thanks for the youtube link.

Mandy sounds more childish than a 3 year old and she had no character to her voice. Mena's voice isn't as high pitched as Mandy's was BY FAR. Mena has an edge to her voice and it sounds believeable for Aeris's character. Mandy made Aeris sound like a poor, shy little girl younger than Yuffie and it didn't fit Aeris at all. Mena gives her a slight mature tone yet feminine which, like I said, makes her much more believeable.

It doesn't matter to me if others like Mandy better. I just base my opinion on their voice matching the character correctly. And to me, Aeris shouldn't sound like a defenceless baby. :ermm:
