In fanart, to tell you the truth, even if I supported Cloti, they all seem so fake. I mean, on both Tifa and Cloud's behalf, they're drawn completely out of character. There are some pictures that show Tifa kissing Cloud, but in reality she doesn't even have half the guts to tell him she likes him! And Cloud, in one he looks like "Omg, please don't leave me Tifa! I love you! I can't leave without you! If you go, I'll die!" blah blah blah. :no:
A creepy thing is the images of Cloud smiling. Okay, I know there are alot of pictures of Cloud smiling broadly and goofily in CloAer pictures as well as Clotis, and they kinda creep me out. No offense, but it's not like Cloud to smile like that AT ALL. It's just totally not him.
But still, he seems to smile more naturally with Aerith than with Tifa :lmao: Okay, I'm kidding. Cloud smiling at all is just plain creepy.

I can appreciate fanarts aesthetically, pairing ships or no-- but yes, I've seen some fanarts that make me go "WTF?". Most notably are fanarts of Cloud groping Tifa or Aerith. Or any girl. Or any guy.

That is... not Cloud. So so so so not Cloud. And Cloud wouldn't grope any guy anyway, because he's such an uke.

And I realise this is weird coming from someone who collects yaoi scans, but that's where my skills at suspending disbelief come in. It'd be boring if everyone only drew "canon" stuff, or else I wouldn't have this absolutely adorable picture of baby-fied Cloud, Squall, Zidane and Tidus. *squee*

So I lock the canon-whore side of my brain in a closet and just enjoy the pictures for what they're worth. :P

But going back on-topic, another thing that makes me go "WTF?" in fanart-- Tifa dressed in Aerith-like clothing. I don't know why, it just seems creepy. Like Cloud would try to morph Tifa into an image of his dead first love or something. :wacko:

But I do love some fanarts of Cloud smiling, particularly the ones off GARAKUTA. It's like to make up for all the times Cloud doesn't smile in canon. :wub:

What bothers me even more than weird fanart is weird fanfiction. I can't stand it when fanfictions show Cloud as someone who chuckles and smiles and jokes all the time, and socializing easily with other people. It also bothers me when fanfictions have Cloud laughing, teasing, and playing tag with children coz I just can't imagine Cloud doing that. For some reason, it bothers me even more to see Cloud misrepresented in a fanfiction than in a fanart, probably because fanfictions are so much more focused on Cloud's personality.

That's not to say that fanarts *never* bother me, coz I've seen a few that bother me a lot. <_< It really makes me wonder if those people played the same game that I did!

For some reason, I can only tolerate yaoi fanart with Auron and Tidus. Those are usually so funny and so ridiculous that I can't help but crack up when I see them! :lmao:

First of all. I would like to see that baby Cloud picture Lynn has. As long as it's not yaoi or anything. <_<;

And second.

I don't really care about who draws what. It's fanart and you should take everything in the piture lightly. If Cloud smiles. Thats Cloud in the fanart, not Cloud in FFVII. If I were to take all fanartss seriously I'd have to complain that every fanart with Cloud's shirt off is drawn completely wrong since he should have a scar from Sephiroth's sword around his abdomen area.

And every picture with Tifa...(I don't want to say with her shirt off) uhh... with a bikini on should show a HUGE diagonal scar running across her entire front area of her body.(Again from Seph's sword)

Yeah, some fanfiction and fanart both Cleris and Cloti can sometimes bother me

Though it is cute when you see a small smile of Cloud's face "8)" ...xD;

Cloud smiling a bit is fine and perfectly normal, but I don't like when it's overdone. I haven't looked at too many cloti fanart and practically no fanfics so I wouldn't know how they choose to portray Cloud, but it doesn't seem to be a common occurence in the cleris stuff I've seen. (And that's not just because I'm a biased cleris!)

Well, that's another thing all three of the Love Triangle people have in common. :P

how does your friend base her opinion if she never played the game? I guess since it's a fan fic they make they characters how they would like them to be. We all know that Cloud isn't like that, and Cloud doesn't have that kind of relationship with Tifa but I suppose that's why people write fan fics.

My favourite fanarts are often not of the ones of Cloud smiling with Aerith (although I love a fair number of those too). But my really, honest-to-goodness favourite ones are typically of him angsting over Aerith or Aerith getting skewered by Sephiroth's Masamune. But their canonity is just an added bonus-- when it comes to fanart, I subscribe to the idea of suspending disbelief and just enjoying the artwork.

Fanarts doesn't really bother me that much especially when it comes to cute Clerith fanarts but When it comes to Hentai or anything like that All I can think is " Who did this!? I wanna hunt that person down." Also the Cloti fanarts.... huh! I can't believe it! They don't even match. Just thinking them as a couple... it gives me chill and eerie feelings. It's like there's a dark world out there waiting for them, they just don't fit.
Such a mystery thinking how Cloti's can stand it and even liked it.

There's a long running double standard in fandom whereby OOC fanart is more acceptable than OOC fanfiction (and with Cloud/Aerith, I see far more OOC fic than art, sadly) for some reason or another.

I don't see anything wrong at all with Cloud smiling - although saying that, I do happily ignore most of Complication canon, where he's faaar too angsty for my liking - or well done NC-17 material. But let's face it, most hentai isn't well done. D:

Uh, but what I wanted to say - I've seen some beautiful Cloud/Tifa art, read some wonderful Cloud/Tifa fics; seen some horribly Cloud/Aerith art, read some godawful Cloud/Aerith fics. I think, overall, it's not so much the subject matter that's important, but the way it's handled. Yes.
