Title: Favorite Disney Movie(s)?
Paladin's Heart - February 4, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
Ever remember those endless amounts of tapes your parents always bought and they all had the trademark "Walt Disney Masterpiece" shiney sticker thingy on the top of the spine? or remember all those Disney T.V series that were HELLA annoying? Well, I do!
That's why I decided to start this thread for all those people who remember their young childhoods watching how The freak of nature Mice sang or wondered how the HELL the Magic Carpet learned how to fly (Seriously, I never knew how.) Let's get to the point...What's your favorite Disney movie(s)?
My favorite is...BEAUTY AND THE BEAST! Because...well...I'll think of a reason later. :P
If there is a thread like this already, I'm really sorry! :gift:
AmayaSaria - February 5, 2006 12:04 AM (GMT)
Peter Pan :D
I love Peter and his free-ness...I wish I could fly like that.... :)
I also love Tinkerbell.... :D She was a funny Pixie ^__^...
But there are soo many good Disney movies (and some bad), its kinda hard to pick one...
Another one of my favorites would have to be Mulan...xD!!!
goddess_in_pink07 - February 5, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
I grew up watching disney movies! As for very favorite,
Cinderalla and Pocahontas
Those two are my childhood favorites. :D
daydreamer198 - February 5, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
The Little Mermaid. My mom read me the story before I watched it, it was my favourite book but it had a sad ending. The movie had a happy ending, so I liked it. :lmao: I watched it when I was 3 and got my first crush; Prince Eric  :lmao: What was I thinking?! :lmao: :lmao:
MistaCloudStrife - February 5, 2006 03:53 AM (GMT)
Alladin and Lilo and Stitch. Most don't appreciate Lilo and Stitch because they don't understand the islander kind of stuff. Same with Wakka from FFX, if you've lived in Hawaii you'd appreciate the guy more. ^^
Onigiri - February 5, 2006 04:04 AM (GMT)
Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid and maybe some others I can't remember. xD I don't really like the newer disney stuff though...
Anti-R - February 5, 2006 04:12 AM (GMT)
Favorites?
When I was a little girl I remember collecting stickers of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast.
Little Mermaid has the best musical score and lyrics, IMHO. After Howard Ashman died, well, the new Disney songs felt like it was lacking something...
As for the new generation Disney cartoon movies, the kids like Mulan, and most of the Pixar movies.
i pRomiSe** - February 5, 2006 04:19 AM (GMT)
Lilo & Stitch, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King (the Broadway made me love it even more) and Sleeping Beauty. I loved those movies so muchhh and I still love them. :lust:
FinalfantasyForeverx3 - February 5, 2006 04:39 AM (GMT)
I saw aladdin like,50 times. The little mermaid as well. I was obessed, and yes even a romantic at the age of 5 or whatever I was lol. That's about why I liked these movies so much, the story's base consisted of romance.
EDIT- has anyone ever seen the "anime version" of the little mermaid,it's 100x better than the disney one,and also made before the disney one. It has a helluva sad ending but i love it
In it the little mermaid commits sucide....but u'll see why if you watch it...yeah
LeaveOnYourBrightLights - February 5, 2006 04:40 AM (GMT)
Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, and The Little Mermaid
And 101 Dalmations xD <3 I love dogs so, thats one of my favorites. xD
I loved Lilo and Stitch!! :D It made me love Elvis even more<3
Marionette - February 5, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
My favorite would definitely be The Lion King. It's the only one that made me cry.
Lynn - February 5, 2006 07:28 AM (GMT)
The Lion King is my absolute favourite. *fangirls over Simba*
The Little Mermaid comes a close second, because I just adore all its songs.
Maleficient, from Sleeping Beauty, is my favourite villain. She scared the bejeezus outta me when she was leading Aurora to the spinning wheel.
I really loved a lot of the old Disney classic-- Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast... I've read a lot of essays complaining that the movies didn't set good examples for young girls, that the female leads were too helpless and didn't exemplify strong, independant women etc.
But to a young girl who just wants a fun story, all of that hullabaloo didn't matter.
Mulan and Finding Nemo are strong favourites too, and among the few newer Disney movies that I've really liked. The stuff by Pixar were good, but I just can't hold them close to heart like I do with the good, old-fashioned animated movies.
Toxo - February 5, 2006 07:37 AM (GMT)
I love: The Lion King, Mulan, Hercules, Bambi (is that how you spell it?), Bugs life , Cinderalla, Pocahontas, Finding Nemo, Alice in Wonderland and Aladdin.
Can't remember all of 'em right now.
Hades' Daughter - February 5, 2006 03:33 PM (GMT)
Let's see...that'd be Cinderella, The little Mermaid, and Mulan. I still love 'em to death

I think I first watched it at the theater when I was about 7. I *also* had a crush on Prince Eric. Ah well, handsome as he is...my heart now belongs to Cloud Strife, so... :P
Sakura27 - February 5, 2006 03:49 PM (GMT)
Beauty and the Beast will always be my favorite, I also like Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Aladin, Pocahontas and Mulan.
Kuki Prower - February 5, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
Oh my god! I can't believe none of you have mentioned the legend! Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs :nono:
How could not mention could you not mention our herione that started the Disney films? :cray: But anyway, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is in my top five, such a brilliant film that can still bring tears to my eyes today. The music is wonderful and I adore Snow White's voice actress. I remember being scared when I first watched it when she was lost in the forest
Beauty and the Beast is also such a brilliant movie, it was nominated at the Oscars for Best Picture and still remains to be the only animated film to do so today I think.

I have to agree with you there Anti-R, even though Disney is still known to bring out brilliant pieces of music, it never captured the masterpieces he did. Beauty and the Beast was his last film and was dedicated to him.
Sleeping Beauty oh my, how I love this movie. Its definately at number 2 in my top ten. I adore the three good faires, I remember when my brother and I couldn't stop laughing when the blue and the red one were fighting over the colour of Aurora's dress

Ah! Maleficient is my favourite villian to! She justhas the ulitmate power and her tone of voice was brilliant! She's always been seen as the ruler of the Disney villians, no wonder she was the head in Kingdom Hearts!

That's what happens in the book, the mermaid kills herself because she loves the prince so much and she didn't want to harm him and the woman he fell in love with. But it was a bittersweet ending because the mermaid gains a soul as when mermaids die they just turn into bubbles but she gained a soul through her love for the Prince.
Others I love are The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, The Black Cauldron, Finding Nemo, The Emperor's New Groove and Tarzan.
But none of them compares to my favourite movie, The Little Mermaid. It was the first ever film I saw and I fell in love with it. The animation is so beautiful, the voice actors and the adventure of Ariel to explore the shora up above it just took my heart. But mainly because of the music, I adore the scores for this movie. The opening at the main titles is just wonderful and listening to "Part of your World" is one of my favourite songs.
AmayaSaria - February 5, 2006 06:54 PM (GMT)
Now I feel like an idiot for forgetting Emperors New Groove.
I.LOVE.THAT.MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its just a good movie and I love it lots..
Its a shame that they had to go and make that new 'disney channel orginal series' the 'Emperor's New School'.....Blah....Disney sequels/TV shows usually end up making the movie look bad...
Tyedye/Rin - February 5, 2006 08:08 PM (GMT)
Amaya you are so right! I am an Emeror's new Groove fan also and I dont even think i wanna watch the ew seies. Two of my other all-time fav Disney movies would ahve to be Mulan (the first one) and The Lion King (the first one) :D
Yukari - February 5, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
For me, it's a tie between The Little Mermaid, Mulan and Alice in Wonderland. I love how Wonderland and the characters therein were so obviously written while the author was high. Of course, back then I just loved it for the story. :lmao: Mulan is just awesome, I love the songs, the story, and most of all Mushu and his little one liners. (Dishonour! Dishonour on you, dishonour on your cow!) And I loved everything about The Little Mermaid when I was a kid. Best Disney film ever.
Vanessa Strife-Gainsborough - February 5, 2006 11:36 PM (GMT)
my favorite Disnet movie was Hercules. I just love the tale of a hero born to become a god. The plot was so amazing. And Hades was really funny!! I think that was Robin Williams who played Hades, the Geenie from Aladdin, and in Flubber.....I also like love story

Sigh. No offense, but I find it a boring movie. Sure, she started the Disney movie animation in history, but I still prefer the Grimm's version of a servant hitting Snow White at back of her head and dislodging the apple from her throat out of extreme annoyance.
It didn't help that Snow White seems to be a 14 year old. And the prince has little to no character development, so I felt kind of grossed out the two of them run off to the the sunset.

True! True! I love Maleficent to death (hey, if I wasn't given an invitation too, I'd cursed their daughter to be eaten by bees), I'm so happy for her roles in KH.

Not really... it was part of the deal.
In the Andersen story, the Little Mermaid was literally suffering in pain. Her tongue was cut off as payment, and whenever she walks her legs felt like she was walking on knives and needles. For the enchantment to allow her to be a real human, she has to win the Prince's love. If she doesn't, she dies.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen. He fell in love with another girl and married her, so the mermaid was doomed to disappear. Her sisters came in a last ditch effort to rescue her. The gave their hair to the witch who gave them a dagger. The prince's blood will allow the mermaid to return to them.
In the end, she'd rather disappear than kill the Prince, and became sea foam. In some versions, she was given a soul (as mermaids don't have souls, they became part of the sea again when they die) for her selflessness.
As for Disney's Ariel... I'm not keen on her character (still cringe at her "I'm 16 years old! I'm not a child anymore!" whining). The movie does have awesome songs, though. And it has never been replicated.

Agreed, that's why I didn't mention it. I'm not particularly fond of Snow White, although I kinda liked the Seven Dwarves. But the movie as a whole didn't click with me, even if it's the classic of classics. It was the same with Pinnochio.
To the movie's credit, though, I still clearly remember the part where she's cleaning the Seven Dwarves' house with the help of all those animals. I'd watched the movie only once, when I was very young, yet still remember bits and pieces of it. That's a real classic for you.
I've also recently finished reading Neil Gaiman's Snow, Glass, Apples-- a different take on the Snow White fairy tale. I don't think I'll ever look at that story the same way again.

I was quite shocked when, one day, the local TV showed another version of The Little Mermaid-- with the original plot instead of the cleaned-up Disney version. It was a surprise, for the small girl I was, to realise the prince hadn't fallen in love with her in the end. It spurred me to do a bit of research, and I realised I liked the original story loads better.
So really, even if people complain that Disney bastardizes classic fairy tales and myths, at least they introduce these tales to people like me, who grew up on Math textbooks and would never have otherwise heard of it.

Oh yes, The Emperor's New Groove deserves special mention too. I never get tired of it, no matter how many times they rerun it on the Disney channel here. The dialogue is just side-splitting. Totally and utterly Disney crack, and I'm absolutely hooked.
slowerthanaverage - February 6, 2006 09:44 AM (GMT)
The original version of Little mermaid is so heartwrenching :cray: It's like..there was noone to blame for the tragedy... you can't blame little mermaid for being so in love with the prince she is willing to place her life on the bet...you can't blame the prince for falling in love with another perfectly fine lady...neither could you blame the lady..bah I love and hate this version at the same time >.>
At least the disney version lets me channel all my hatred towards the despicable ursula and then gave me a happily ever after :giggle:
I can't pin point one favourite disney movie...I know I am never sick of the lion king, beauty and the beast, the little mermaid, cinderella..and peter pan
daydreamer198 - February 6, 2006 10:25 AM (GMT)
ah yes, i loved peter pan too, but i hated return to neverland  to tell you the truth, all the sequences were bad. mulan 2; Oh my god, i had a crush on Shang in the first movie, but in the second... :puke: None of the sequences storyline could ever compete with the original.
Anti-R - February 6, 2006 11:19 AM (GMT)
I avoid Disney sequels. Period. XD It's like seeing bad animated fanfictions.
Lynn - February 6, 2006 11:24 AM (GMT)
*shudder* Me too. Avoid them like the plague. At first I was excited, then quickly learned my lesson. I don't think I've ever hated a sequel as much as I hated The Little Mermaid 2.
I really wish that, instead of showing all these sequels, the Disney channel would run the original classics.
I also dislike it when they turn a popular show into a series. I saw Lilo & Stitch: The Series coming a mile away. >_<

I love it though. It was a non "happily ever after" fairy tale...

Hm. It's a good thing you didn't see the Aladdin and Hercules TV series then, it used be aired like crazy. ^^;; those are so... bizaarre...
BTW, my favorite Live Action Disney Movies are Pirates of the Carribean (I can NOT wait for Dead Man's Chest!) and Chronicles of Narnia (here's hoping for Prince Caspian on the works, ohplsohplsohpls).
Amathala - February 6, 2006 01:45 PM (GMT)
Beauty and the Beast is my ultimate fave! I just love the music, and I love Belle! Even the Beast was so loveable finally.
Hmm...other faves...Hercules, Pocahontas, Mulan....EMPERORS NEW GROOVE! XD it's funny to see this here because I was doing Yzma's dialoge where she called Kronk a stupid monkey, all the way home! I love that movie. I still haven't seen Kronk's New Groove yet. But I saw Emperors New School...I couldn't help but crack up!
The Black Cauldron is another one of my faves too ^_^
AmayaSaria - February 6, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
ALMOST all Disney Sequels were bad, but the only good one I can think of is Toy Story 2. That was one of the few (or only sequel) that was good.
Flirtatious - February 11, 2006 01:59 AM (GMT)
Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and Cinderella! :D
daydreamer198 - February 11, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)

I like The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, Snow White, Tarzan (mainly for the Phil Collins music) and a lot more. I can't think of any more.
