Hey guys! I know there are some other yaoi/shounen-ai fans on this board so I decided to make a club where we can post pictures and talk of our favourite male/male couples!

Anyway, as most of you guys know, my favourite pairing is TrunksxGoten aka. TruTen from Dragon Ball Z. I just love them so much! They make an adorable couple and they have lots of interesting fanfics out there even though there's not much fan art.

Aaah, I KNEW I'd seen this club yesterday! Was all confused when I couldn't seem to find it today. So I wasn't hallucinating! :dance:

I don't ship yaoi religiously, unlike how I've seen many fans ship Sephiroth/Cloud or Zack/Cloud, for example, but I do have a couple of small favourites (one of which should be pretty dang obvious by now, if my constant squeeing wasn't obvious enough :razz: ). I used to search for yaoi fanfiction quite a bit when I first stumbled into the fandom, but now I've mostly been collecting fanart (and such pretty fanart they produce, oh yep).

I've never really like Cloud and Sephiroth, but I think Cloud and Zack are cute. I prefer to read fanfiction if its written nicely rather than looking at fanarts. I've seen a couple of Cloud and Zack stuff and it was so cute! Also mainly because shounen-ai/yaoi drawers seem to draw them beautifully!

I don't have a lot of Truten pics, Truten seems to be more popular in the fanfiction fandom.

To BlackWind: Shounen ai is simply hugs and kisses between two guys. Yaoi is more then that but less then lemon, unless specified. :P

Shounen-ai is mainly cute kissing and hugging but the story involves their relationship and how romantic it can be. Yaoi is just sex really :lol:

I've been wondering, what IS the psychological explanation behind the yaoi fandom? I dabble in some pairings, but I'm certainly heterosexual :unsure:
All I can come up with is...the squee factor is just *different* when it's a guy and a guy, instead of a guy and a girl.

And how come yaoi/shounen-ai more rampant in anime, than, say...Hollywood? The list of two Hollywood women who've kissed is huge(girl/girl sells anywhere) but for the guys, it's much shorter.

I also love Yuki/Shuichi ever since I got Gravitation!! I even catch up on the manga! (Yes, I'm perverted too when it comes to Yaoi/shounen ai. :P )

To Kusari: Eh, I don't know. Maybe because there's a lotta guys who like the girl-on-girl action. But there's also the females...eh, not sure if the actors there want to do a same-sex scene, kiss or otherwise.*shrugs*

Beside, Hollywood need to create good relationship if they ever made movies about guy/guy and/or girl/girl. Most pairings are often like not only because of looks but the chemistry, spark, relationship between the two people.

Man, this answer is SUCH a cop-out, but I can't help it. :lol:

I we can find out why guys (generally) love girl-on-girl action, and switch the genders around, I guess we'll find out why some girls are absolutely nuts about yaoi! :D

...Okay, an actual attempt at an answer:

I think it partly has to do with the almost "forbidden" nature of a yaoi relationship. You can see het happening anywhere. It's rampant in movies, games, etc. We're saturated in it, and we're also exposed to all those anti-gay/pro-gay movements. There's conflict there. And audiences thrive on conflict. Whereas you don't see anybody stirring up problems about heterosexual relationships.

So when you choose to support a yaoi coupling, it's almost like taking that forbidden fruit.

Although don't ask me why girls usually end up liking yaoi and hating yuri. In that case, I'm definitely going to point to my first answer.


On a more personal note, I support certain yaoi pairings because the image of Cloud and Leon kissing appeals to me, particularly if it ends in the hotel room...

To be honest, I don't know. I wouldn't want to give out my opinions because I'm just a little immature kid! And I honestly don't think that it will help you. But I sort-of agree with Pyra Kurai Akaidra because of guys liking girl/girl and with us just swiching the genders around...ehehehehe.

That 'forbidden fruit' theory does make a lot of sense. Although I still wonder why 'most all guys love yuri whereas only some girls like yaoi. It just goes back to my Hollywood question- how come besides "Brokeback Mountain", I can't think of any recent popular guy/guy movies? :unsure:

This probably sounds goody-goody but I like slash the most if there is luv and fluff involved. That's why even if I don't really ship the couple, I can be 'converted' if I read fics about them that handle the love powerfully. I've dabbled in Elricest(Full Metal Alchemist) and Remus/Sirius(Harry Potter. There was just this one amazing fic about them...)

Although I also think there's such a thing as tasteful smut!

SasuNaru - The most popular yaoi pairing in Naruto! Same as Squall and Seifer, I can change between having either Sasuke or Naruto as Seme, though I prefer Sasuke most of the time. :fangirl:

ItaNaru - Don't ask why, I JUST love this pairing! There must be another reason why Itachi is searching for Naruto... :plot:

NejiNaru - If Sasuke can't have Naruto, why not Neji? :whistle:

I admit, I don't read much of those master-slave fics, but the guy-in-maid ones are mainly for amusement to me. :lol: Especially when Naruto lose to Sasuke in a bet...

What's especially hilarious is that during one of the major flashbacks Naruto has about Sasuke, the kiss makes an appearance too! You'd think the kid would want to forget about it. :lmao:

I think there's quite a large female following for yaoi, especially as it becomes more mainstream.

But I guess if you look at slash, while it still has a notable following, it's probably still outnumbered by yuri/girl-girl stuff. My first guess would simply be demand-- more guys searching out this stuff, so people supply it-- but it's very much just a guess.

Are you following the age-old arrangement of seme/uke? In which case, I really can't imagine Cloud as a seme. Maybe it's from all the yaoi doujin I've seen, but I have a hard time imagining Cloud on top of any yaoi relationship (except perhaps Cloud/Kadaj! :lol: ).

Although amusingly enough, Cloud became so hardcorezomgANGST!!11! in KH2 that I can actually imagine him as the typical cold, cool seme in this pairing. KH1!Leon was definitely seme material, but it was bloody hard to keep that image of him when he started indulging in happy!crack in KH2. :lol:

Of course that makes it canon! Its in the manga to! I heard that in the english version of the anime, they cut out the kiss but you could hear it. I found that hilarious because if Bugs Bunny could kiss Elmer Fudd on the lips, why can't they show Naruto and Sasuke kissing? :lol:

What's Uke and Seme?

They're terms to specify the dominant and submissive characters of a pairing.

Seme = dominant (top)
Uke = submissive (bottom)

Usually, the pattern of writing the pairings follows Seme/Uke arrangement-- so if I wrote "Leon/Cloud", it means Leon is the dominant character in the relationship (and gets to top Cloud :P).

With seme and uke, certain characteristics sometimes follow. A 'seme' is usually characterised being colder, angstier, dark etc. Whereas a 'uke' is usually characterised as being more innocent, naive, emotional etc.

:lol: No no, that's just me being overly curious. I wanted to hear the reasons of anyone who could view Cloud in a 'seme' light!

And yes, they sorta parallel Riku/Sora to me too, mostly in terms of the difference in personality. Although KH-verse Leon and Cloud share too many similarities at times to me, so I like throwing in a sprinkling of their personalities from their original games.
