I only heard it as a rumor or maybe I remember reading about it at some site I forgot but, I heard that while SE were in the stage of making FF7, they had Sephiroth and Aerith as siblings for their first setting?

I mean...look at their hair! I honestly thought Sephiroth was Aerith's older
brother when I first played the game.

Seriously, I thought they were siblings. The hair, the frame, everything! like it was really meant to be. But maybe, Square thought that would just add another branch to the quite tangled storyline of FFVII. I mean the rel between Zack and Cloud, Zack and Tifa, Tifa sephiroth, sephiroth cloud, cloud tifa, Zack Aerith Cloud? That'd would just be too much...

It was written in the FFVII Ultimania Omega, that Aerith and Sephy were originally meant to be siblings. :aeris:

I guess they do have the same hair kinda.lol.So they must have changed the story a good bit then.

Yay! I'm not the only one who thinks that Sephiroth and Aerith had the same bangs and eye color was too much a coincidence.

And yes, it's true. Originally they were supposed to be siblings.

They considered a lot of different relationships for Aerith and Sephiroth while they were writing it, including the above mentioned siblings, and Sephiroth being the first person Aerith fell in love with (because he always bought a flower from her when he saw her, which she's reminded of when Cloud buys one).

Wow... I'm amazed. What made SE decide that Sephiroth should go from Aerith's Brother to her murderer? :unsure:

Aerith's first crush Sephiroth? That shows how many FFVII's was put into FFVIII, that was just as like Rinoa's first crush was Seifer.

Now Zack is not only a recycled version of Cloud, but Sephiroth's as well.

Well, Tifa is a partially recycled Aeris. One of the earlier ideas was to have Aeris be Cloud'c childhood friend, except, actually BE his friend.

Aww, that would've been so sweet if they hadn't changed it. It would've been such a great insight into Sephiroth's character pre-craziness! Why'd they have to go and change it? :sad: Although if they hadn't then Zack may have had an even smaller part of the plot than he does now...

Didn't some people here suspect before that there'd been a love triangle-ish relationship between Cloud, Aerith and Sephiroth based on the Amano illustrations? You people = awesome.

I'm sure the rabid Aerith haters/Tifa lovers would flip upon hearing that. :P But the idea of young Aerith being friends with young Cloud is too cute. I've always believed that Aerith and Cloud would've been friends had they known each other as children.

I've always loved the idea of a love triangle between Cloud, Seph, and Aerith, ever since I saw Amano's wicked Sephris drawing. I was amazed that they were actually pictured together, when they barely interacted in the game before he shishkabobbed her. And they looked so...intimate, even. Creepy, in a cool way.

Aerith was supposed to be Cloud's childhood friend? Aw... I wonder if their personalities were the same as they are now? It would be interesting to see how their relationship would develop from childhood to adulthood in comparison to Cloud and Tifa's childhood friend complex. I wonder if the story was the same--would Aerith have been the one to have her memories corrupted? Or would those events have happened at all? Do you suppose they really would have been friends, like Cloud and Tifa never were? It's all so fascinating. I'm so excited they're releasing all this information, there's so much new insight! :hyper:

I don't know if the bit about Aeris being Cloud's childhood freind is specifically mentioned in that book or not. I read that in an interview several years ago that it was one of the early ideas.

other intresting things in that interview was that Tifa wasn't supposed to be any more important to the plot than Vincent or Yuffie, and at one point, Vincent was a vampire hunter.

Hehe, it seems that they were just building around Cloud and Aerith's relationships, adding and subtracting things here and there. Kinda makes it more obvious who was the main Heroine.

Well seeing that Cloud, Aerith and Barret were the only characters that were initially built for the game, it makes a lot of sense to show that Aerith is definitely the heroine.

i also heard that it was between of Aeris or Barett who was gonna be killed in the game :shock:!!!!!! and they chose Aeris as they though it would be more dramatic and fit in the whole save the world plot!

That would have been so kewl, Sephiroth a real ancient why did they leave it out ><, two ancient materias (Holy, Meteor) only the two siblings can use them :D. I wonder how Aeris would react to find out he's her brother :fanboy:

So Sephiroth was going to be her brother or her lover? You know, that would have been soo much more interesting, especially when Seph kills her. Eee. I like the A/C/S LT aready (wrote a oneshot for it), but the sibling idea is good too.

Not too sure about the whole childhood idea though; I like the way Cloud and Aerith only knew each other for a relatively short time but had such a strong connection.

well to say the least sephiroth and aerith do look somewhat alike yet, their attitudes are so different, like aerith, she is always happy living life and always helping others, on the other hand sephiroth is as cold as a rock, he killed many, and all he wants is to know who he really is, no i think he just wants to end it all, he is always fighting and he seems a bit bored with life, if sephiroth was like aerith, the game would not exsist without a villan, and the story wouls be messed up and that is my theory.....

It would of made the story very interesting (and a lot more complicated) if Aeris and Sephiroth were related.....

The should of kept that idea, I would've like to see where that could have gone...
