Title: Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire

Anti-R - November 19, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
Wow.

I was never impressed by the Harry Potter movies before. I felt there was something lacking. I could never re read GoF, because I find it boring.

But the movie of Goblet of Fire made me watch the whole thing twice.

Awesome pacing, the minor characters were used very well. The three main characters: Harry, Ron and Hermione improved. I find myself liking the actors who played Krum and Cedric ^^.

And for once, Snape and Malfoy were unusually unvillified in this movie. Malfoy's actor is hot though...

And the whole school drama was actually there... I really felt I am watching the school as a character, instead of a backround that has magical elements in it. I find myself being reminded of myself as a high school student, from the strict teacher reminding us to behave ourselves in special events that would not embarrassed the school to Harry's awkwardness towards Cho (why do we keep remembering the embarrassing dumb stuff we did in front of our crush and not let it die? ARRRGH!) . The Yule Ball, despite my fears, played itself out very well.

Anyway, am raving. You guys should really see this. It made me believe again. ^^

Sefie - November 19, 2005 08:06 PM (GMT)
Humm...Sefie's feelings are mixed

It was an awesome movie, I'll admit that right off. Fab acting, very funny, well paced but...I felt like they left alot of very important stuff out, and changed quite a bit. I know their reasons behind it, but that doesn't make it anymore enjoyable for me.

My sister said they changed alot of the themes of the book, but I disagree. I felt the feeling of the movie was very true to the book, even though the ending scene was.....XP It wasn't even a feel good scene just..blah

My major complaint is: If they were so strapped for time WHY OH WHY did they waste time with that dragon scene? It bored me and was just annoyingly over-done. They could have shown us a LITTLE of the Quidditch world cup, which was in the book, or perhaps even expanded on the Crouches a little more and actually EXPLAINED, but no, they had to throw something in that wasn't in the book and wouldn't have actually happened(Professional dragon trainers and Dumbledore let a dragon get away and actually chase Harry without offering any form of assistance?) <_<

I felt the movie assumed you'd read the book too much, rather than be able to stand on its own as a story. My little sister who hasn't read them said it "had no plot".

Overall, I did thouroughly enjoy it though. It was funny, touching, and exciting I'm just nitpicky

EnglishRose - November 19, 2005 08:13 PM (GMT)
I've only seen the first movie, and I'm a Christian, and though I read the books, I'm not ecstatic. But I would like to see the films, maybe when they are on DVD, and I can buy the whole collection. I might not have seen the movies, but maybe it's just me, you cannot beat the books in most cases. (One exception: Lord of the Rings). ^_^

Yesh, Anti-R, I agree with you on this: Malfoy is HAWT :lust:

Sefie - November 19, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
It's all about Cedric Diggory. The females in the theatre CHEERED the first time he came on screen ^_^

Real_Emotion - November 19, 2005 11:48 PM (GMT)
Mayyynnn... <_< You guys wanna make me see the movie even more. I wanna see it so badly. I was suppose to watch it yesterday with my brother and co, but it was sold out. :fist: We're suppose to see it today, but there is too much drama in this damned house.

Sefie - November 20, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
RE, hon, don't get your hopes too terribly high. As far as movies go, it was good, as far as being based on a book goes.... It leaves alot to be desired(THAT DARN DRAGON SCENE! >.<)

Silver Tempest - November 20, 2005 03:30 AM (GMT)
I saw the movie on opening day, waited in line for an hour and got some good seats with some friends of mine. I must say that every movie, the acting gets better and better. I wasn't overly fond of how they handeled the maze. It just did not seem overly, if at all, scary to me.

I'll always remember the scene with the Quidditch world cup, where there just getting ready to begin and it suddenly cuts out. Everyone, (myself included) went "what?"

Yeah, I've read all the books, so i know what is going on. But you have a good point Sefie. Would anyone really understand what was going on if they have never read the books?

~Cleara Aura~ - November 20, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
Did Harry and Hermoine get together? Who did Hermoine dance with?

Oh I saw only the clip when Harry tried to ask the asian girl if she would go to the dance with him, but Harry was late. His expression was so sad. :(

I have the book but I didn't even read it, I'd love to see the movie. It looks very intense and it's getting better.

Anti-R - November 20, 2005 06:08 AM (GMT)
^suggesting you read the Half Blood Prince. I can't tell it... -_-

I think the dragon part is for the the obligatory Harry on his broomstick/chase scene. Because they never held their local Quidditch tournament for the competition.

Do we really need to see the whole competition in the first place? I don't think it's important to warrant a lengthy scene, considering it was just to introduce Viktor.

slowerthanaverage - November 20, 2005 06:14 AM (GMT)
Anti-R , you made me wanna watch the movie soo much :hyper: but I have to get through me exams first.. :cray:

But I can already predict that I would love the movie, I'm not particular and ish easily contented @,@

Sefie - November 20, 2005 07:25 AM (GMT)
I still would've liked to have gotten to watch the game!*LOVES Quidditch* My friend's daddeh paid lots of money to a charity, so they got to see an uncut version of the movie. He says there was more of the Quidditch game, so let's hope for deleted scenes!*crosses fingers*

No Cleara, HarryxHermione will never be sweetie ^_^

The shipping stuff pissed me off though. The ONLY cannon stuff was ChoxCedric and then the RonxHermione fight. All that HarryxHermione fluff was pure movie magic <_< It cheeses Sefie right off

AND THAT EFFIN DRAGON SCENE!!!! >.<

XD Dun get me wrong though, I really did enjoy the movie. Will be going to see it in Imax soon. Will enjoy nekkid Harry some more.

Inuyatta - November 20, 2005 08:34 AM (GMT)
I didn't see a whole lot of Harry/Hermione <3, though I suppose they were quite liberal with some parts (her being in the tent)--her attraction for Ron is pretty obvious and I'm pleased that we saw more of Ginny than we have in the previous films.

That said, they just left far, far too much out. House elves, SPEW, Animagus Rita, the parting between Fudge and Dumbledore.

I was kinda miffed at how jock-like they made Cedric when he was portrayed to be a very humble and good-natured boy. The tasks were handled all wrong, IMO--the dragon task should have been shorter (so it could save time for plot) especially since Harry got through that task quickest, without much wear and tear, save for a scratch or two. Task two was well enough, I suppose. Task three would have been much more fun and accurate had there been some creatures in the maze.

It's good for a movie, worth seeing at least once--but I'm worried that if they cut this out of movie four, what are they going to leave out of movie five when it's based off of a bigger book?

If it helps, my sister pointed out that Draco was in Goyle's pants. Myrtle saw Harry naked, and Fleur kissed Ron twice. Take it as you will. Hermione acted like a mommy towards Harry... being too worried for him, kinda cute.

I love the fact Ron, not Harry, put up a fuss of Hermione dating Krum. And that he's unconcerned about the rumor regarding Harry and Hermione as a couple in the papers.

I don't think SPEW was that important for the film (yes, we get to see Hermione as an activist, but does it help with Harry's story?). I felt it was shoved off to the background by the time of the Half Blood Prince, so it's likely it probably won't be even touched on in the future films.

mallorn - November 20, 2005 12:03 PM (GMT)
Meh. For me, though the acting has markedly improved, it still leaves a lot to be desired. There were quite a few scenes where I felt like I was watching Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson instead of Harry and Hermione. I was also annoyed at the overly long dragon scene and the scene with Moaning Myrtle, yeah, it was cute and we got to see some skin (:D), but it was also too long for my taste. Also, I was a bit annoyed by their choosing not to mention how Mr. Crouch died. It's like he just suddenly got a heart attack! I was also a bit disappointed with the DE's KKK uniforms. Do they really need those pointy hats?

That said, I just loved Fred asking Angelina to the Yule Ball, complete with winks and hip gyrations! :D

yin-chan - November 20, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
Oh I loved the movie! just watched it on Saturday, and I loved it!

Agree with you Sefie that it feels rushed and they left out lots and lots of stuff!! I was really upset that they cut out so much, but as a standing movie, it was reasonably good, the action scenes were all very good.

I think Fleur, Cedric and Krum should've gotten a bit more screentime and lines though.

Being a fan of both pairings, the Harry/Hermione bits and Ron/Hermione bits pleased me immensely. ^_^ I didn't really like Cho though...

Bloodbath - November 20, 2005 04:01 PM (GMT)
Wow... most of you guys love the movie? For me... I liked it, but it could've been better. ^_^"

The pros... hmmm... like what almost everyone said, their acting has improved, so that's one. And I loved the new graphics - the gothic angel at the Riddle estate was beautiful! But... why do people hate the dragon scene? I loved the beautiful dragon... ::points in her morbidity scale::

And the funny parts were genuinely funny, I admit. :) Charming dress robes... :shifty:

The cons... well... I really hated that it was so fast. Just when I thought I was going to get a lovely handful of smexy Quidditch players go and play, it was cut. :o I was so upset, I tore apart the popcorn bag in my hands. Lucky there was a plastic... :P

And for me... some parts were just... butchered. I didn't expect the girls from Beauxabatons so... flirty in the opening. But the entrance by the Durmstrang guys was cool... And the death of Barty Sr. It was like he just decided to lie down on the ground and die.

Seriously! The way they handled the Crouches was the worst part of the whole movie! >.<

Know what's funny? I actually MUCH prefer movie Cho ^_^ For some reason, she just doesn't rub me the wrong way. Perhaps it's the Scottish accent

Nina - November 21, 2005 02:22 AM (GMT)
YAY! I just saw the movie today!

I really loved how the movie started, but it ended so fast. I was really pissed off on how they cutted the Quidditch game >_<, but surely as it continued it really paid off. ^_^ The movie itself made me very pleased, so I guess you won't hear much complaints from me XD Heck, I loved it! <3 The acting pretty much improved GREATLY, and... just one thing... DAMN, NEVILLE GOT SKINNIER :o

I admit, it got waaaay funnier. Even my cold brother laughed at some points. The part when Harry was fighting the dragon was sorta useless since it wasn't really included in the book... was it? It has been about 3-4 years ago since I read it XD and they didn't have much time in class (loves Alan Rickman's SNAPE ). The movie got more into teenage experience, and DUDE, I FREAKING LOVE RON TO DEATH XD He must have my babies~!!

Overall the movie had action, especially the maze, graveyard, tasks, etc. parts. The movie in the beginning was really hysterical but got more serious towards the end. Malfoy's actor, Tom Felton, is indeed worthy of my drool-floodings. I noticed that the Weasleys had more screentime though XD which is hella good because they are love! I miss the old Dumbledore actor though, but, I don't want to get into that... :cray: Personally I think there should've been more parts with the teachers, but it was just focused on Moody, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fleur, Viktor, Cedric :lust:, etc. Wasn't Harry supposed to sneak in Snape's classroom for some Gilweed? Sorry, I'm not sure, has REALLY been a long-ass time since I read the novel XD

My favorite scene was when Harry and Ron were talking in that study hall. Snape kept on wacking their heads  I really, really adore Ron&Hermione together. They are so cute! :fangirl: Harry&Hermione is pretty okers, but I just really love R&H. ^_^ I didn't really like Cho that much; she was pretty and friendly, but somehow I didn't feel such admiration for a character. Maybe because of her laters parts in the other novels. :P

Anyway, HPGoF is, I guess, my favorite HP movie... so far :shifty:

Kusari Yarou - November 21, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
I didn't see any Harry/Hermione shippy bits. I thought the scenes with Harry and Hermione looked like nothing more than friendship. Like a mommy fussing over her little boy

The pros
-More screentime for Neville and Ginny and the twins! I didn't expect that! And I saw a lot more of the minor characters, like the Patil twins, Dean and Seamus etc. Methinks they're already setting up stage for the DA in movie five
I really hope they keep the actress who plays Ginny. She gets prettier with every movie.
-Rupert Grint's acting has improved immensely. He was great during the Harry/Ron fight and in his comic scenes. No longer simpering, cowardly Ron as they portrayed in PoA but Ron Weasley
-Dan's performance was a little awkward but I liked him when he came back with Cedric's body and goes crazy. The scene when everyone finds out that Cedric is dead was very dramatic
-Fleur, Cedric, and Krum although I wish they had been given more lines(Cedric was hot but Krum was hotter!) I liked Cho too...too bad she turns very unlikeable in Book 5.
-Cool introduction scenes for the two visiting schools
-how they showed interschool unity between Beauxbatons, Durmstrang and Hogwarts. I liked that scene in the end where they showed the students from all three schools hugging and shaking hands. That wasn't in the book.
- the scene with Harry and his parents...I dunno, there was something very touching about having them stand on either side of him and having Lily call him "sweetheart"
-Little details like Filch wearing a suit, Ginny and Hermione exchanging sly glances when Cedric appears, Hagrid singing the school song etc
-the bathtub scene

The cons
-Emma Watson's over-the-top acting...sheesh  Seriously, I won't be too disappointed if they decide to replace her in the next 3 movies. I wish she'd revert back to her portrayal of Hermione in the first movie...
-The loooooong drawn out dragon scene.
-Not nearly enough R/Hr tension. It was very prominent in the book but here, it was just one scene... and Hermione seemed more interested in Krum than she actually was in the book
-ALMOST NO SIRIUS SCREENTIME! Why??? They could have shown Harry periodically receiving letters from him, maybe that sweet pawprint goodluck card...but we didn't even get to see his real face. How are they gonna pull off the Harry/Sirius bond in OOtP?
-the graveyard scene looked a little awkward...Voldy and Harry dueling in that itsy-bitsy space and the Death Eaters crowding behind them(and not enough Death Eaters too)

QUOTE

Young Barty was goodlooking, though. Heehee

Overall, they did a great job fitting a 700+ page book into a movie. It was a good movie.

Sefie - November 21, 2005 03:55 AM (GMT)
XD Cedric=teh smecks. I will never get over that theater cheering when you first see his face

Kusari Yarou - November 21, 2005 07:59 AM (GMT)
I will never forget the girl in front of me screeching "Hottieness!!!!" whenever he appeared. She did it for the WHOLE movie! <_<

When Ralph Fiennes appeared, quite a few mothers stood and led their sobbing kids out of the theater. Obviously, they hadn't read the book

Not really. Hermione did complain to Harry that Krum watches her read, which annoyed her. I guess he's not much of a talker...

I guess she enjoyed her date in the ball. Except Ron kind of ruined it in the end... it's fun seeing the two of them tick each other off over the smallest of reasons.

Aprillis - November 21, 2005 09:41 AM (GMT)
I was a bit sceptical when my friend dragged me to watch the movie. Based on my experience with the previous instalments, Harry Potter movies were horribly drawn out, ghastly altered, and featured actors/actresses that were too pretty for their respective roles. To put it simply, they were the bane of my existence.

But this one is.... amazing. Although lots of people complained that they changed a lot of things from the book, I was glad that they did. Preserving every single line from the book won't add spice to the movie at all. The last time the director tried to keep the movie close as possible to the book was in Chamber of Secrets, and looked how that turned out?

I may be an avid Harry/Hermione shipper, but after reading HBP and then seeing all those un-canon 'H/Hr' scenes in the movie made me a bit uncomfortable. But I guess it wasn't the director's fault, he probably didn't have time to alter the 'H/Hr' scenes after H/G and R/Hr were confirmed in HBP.

Favourite scenes

- - The Unforgivable Curses (Mad-Eye Moody's actor was a tad too dramatic here, but anyways it was nice to see the three curses in full 'silver-screen' glory. Avada Kedavra was exactly how I imagined it.)

- The Yule Ball/Brawl (pretty dresses, rock music, a beautiful dance hall. Oh, and Harry in a tux 8D)

- The Third Task (I could feel the adrenaline pumping in my veins throughout the whole scene! Although I was a bit disappointed that the Blast-Ended Skrewts and the Sphnix were cut out)

- Graveyard Scene (Extremely tear-jearking. Portrayed even better than in the books)

I've always liked Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire better than all the other books, and I'm glad that the movie turned out fantastic. I've got a new-found respect for Mike Newell, now

I certainly enjoyed watching Dan! :lust:
But I felt there was a little TOO much sexual tension thar. Myrtle was a bit much

Anti-R - November 22, 2005 02:52 AM (GMT)
Horny Myrtle, as my sister said, LOL. ^0^

My favorite Dan moment was when he was lying on the couch, holding that egg, looking forlorn. Harry's such a loser mode but I can't help thinking it was cute and feel sorry for him.

Anti-R - November 22, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
But she did date Krum for awhile throughout GoF, and became pen pals in OoTP. ^^, so it's not that scandalous, IMHO.

Nina - November 22, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
Wasn't the scene in the Yule Ball a little Ron/Hermione thing? It was prolly obvious that Ron was jealous of Krum, and then Hermione said, "Well you should ask before it's too late" or something like that... Welps, yeah, in Half-Blood Prince things get a bit more clearer.

Desert Wolf - November 22, 2005 08:06 PM (GMT)
I really cant wait to see it.It looks a lot better than the others.

Kusari Yarou - November 23, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
Hrm yeah, he was her first kiss after all
Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to see how they handle Ginny in the OotP movie. The new director already said that he would put focus on her and Harry's other friends. I was pleased that they already showed her feisty side in GoF movie so think how she'll be in OotP! :)

Sefie - November 23, 2005 06:11 AM (GMT)
Squee for Ginnah! XD

I would put more but...I've a pounding headache

*Gives Sefie some Tylenol and a :huggle:*

GoF has just come out now, and all these conspiracy theories have been popping up for OoTP: an example is that Bellatrix Lestrange will be replaced by Barty Crouch Jr. :o Frankly, I don't know if JKR would agree to that, and it might be a bit hard because they would have to either revive Crouch Jr. or make him flee from Azkaban, and... Aaaaagh! This is what happens when you leave glaring potholes in a movie. :D

I really hope Bellatrix is in OoTP, I'm really looking forward to her character. The actress who plays her should be top-notch!

I really should have posted in this thread earlier. :P

Anyway, I loved the fourth movie. I know that they didn't have EVERYTHING that was included in the book, but I think that they did a pretty good job of compiling it. I really appreciated that the had the song from the first book in it, that was really a nice touch. :)

I thought the bath scene was hilarious. It was worded very closely to the book, and I thought that Myrtle was every bit as scandalous as she should have been.

I didn't like the "OMG DRAGON WALL-SCALING THIS IS SO KEWL!!1!!" I just don't think that Dumbledore would have let that happen. <_<

And the lack of Sirius bothered me muchly as well. GIVE ME SIRIUS, OR GIVE ME DEATH plzkthx. :P

Let me be the first to say that I found Barty Crouch, Jr. really, really hawt.

Um... you guys do know the characters warned participants that players can actually DIE in the competition... as if making teenagers face dragons, underwater creatures and other stuff in the maze isn't an indication of that. :/

Sefie - November 24, 2005 06:25 PM (GMT)
Ah, but they also state they have changed the rules to AVOID people dying. In the book at least, I could've sworn they said it in the movie too.
