Title: Computer Problems

slowerthanaverage - October 26, 2005 04:06 AM (GMT)
My laptop is making annoying buzzing noise. :headbang:
Very very annoying.

Is it normal? (cos it's about like almost 2 year old)
Or perhaps something's gone cranky inside?

I remembered there was once when my PC had such a problem and we found out that it was the fan inside the PC that had gone loose.
Does laptops have fans inside them as well? :hmm:

Sorry I'm such an idiot when it comes to computer-ish stuff. :pout:

Ermm.... :( I don't know why your laptop makes buzzing noises, but I do know that it should have a fan. My laptop does, even though it's just a small fan. Make sure nothing is blocking the vent so it doesn't overheat, and that's about all the advice I can give right now. ^^;;

Hope your lappie gets better!!

It does sound like a fan problem, try giving it a cleaning up or get someone to have a look at it. it's better to do it now then have your fan go and cause you some more expensive problems. It could be the graphics card fan...

There is also a chance that there is something wrong with its power supply. they have a habit of buzzing when they are on the verge of failing. Try to pinpoint the noise if possible.

the fan is there to make sure your laptop doesn't over heat, im not sure about the buzzing noise i think that can happen if you have to much stored on your laptop. Not certain though. :ermm:

Like Yin-Chan said, give it a clean as it could be glogged up with fluff or dust. When I had a laptop it used to get cloggeg up alot and it made a weird buzzing noise.

It could be coming loose, like someone else said, so tighten the screws.

Or it could be the fact that it might not be getting enough ventalation.

Hope I helped ^^;;

Yeah, it could be something with the fan. It might be loose or a screw in there. It could also be your cd-rom drive. I get that alot when the cd-rom starts going buzz-buzz squek squek.

There are a lot of possibilites:

1: The fan could be loose (as mentioned)

2: Cables could be hitting the fan

3: Does it happen when you put a CD in? If so, it could be the CD-ROM drive

4: Hard drives can make buzzing noises when they spin up. Try to find your hard drive's speed

The graphics card fan is kinda out the window, considering very few laptops have graphics card fans in them. Since it's a laptop, it's very doubtful that it's the power supply. The proccessor's heatsink fan (usually on right side of laptop) may be loose or clogged, so check that out too. Let me know what happens. B)

EDIT: Anyone know how to set up AFP/SMB servers on SOLARIS OS?

My CPU makes this horrible buzzing noise on occasion too, usually when my brother plays his online games, such as Ragnarok Online or DOTA. It's the kind of 'whirring' noise that builds up and up as if it's gonna explode any minute. :sweat:

Thanks to everyone's advice here, I think I'll check if it's because of the fan as well. Do you need any special equipment to clean it with? Or would a simple feather duster do? *is not a n00b at this computer thingamajigs!!*
