SPOILER!!I kind of wished they played X JAPAN'S "Longing" for the end of AC. I read the translations for the song that played in the ending credits...but, I didn't understand what Nomura was trying to convey. Perhaps I shall re-read them over again to try and grasp the over-all concept of the ending. *nods*/SPOILER!!I'm going to post the English translation (even though most of the song is in English, anyways) But, if you want the Japanese lyrics...I'll be happy to post them up, as well. I'm currently uploading the song to my server so you all can listen to it's loveliness.
Longing by
X JAPANHurting more than words could ever try to say,
Once again my tears come raining down.
Someday, though, I know that all I feel will be...
So I sing... this
'Unending Melody'...
Hold you close within my heart and tomorrow will live again and
Maybe you and I will live there, too...Sing without you...
I'll sing without you...
Can't you feel my heart?
Falling through the rain?
I sing without you...
I'll sing without you...
Can't you hold my tears?
Cause,
still I love you.I can't face that thought of being alone.
I sing, for the song still carries on.
Hold you close within my heart and think of all the
songs we would sing.
But your voice has faded soft away...Sing without you...
I'll sing without you...
Can't you feel my pain?
There's nothing I can do...
I still have a longing for your memory.
Even if it only causes pain...
I want to tell you of what's in my heart. But right now... there's no one here for me to tell...
Once again the rain comes pouring, slowly seeming to
turn into dreams.
Where tomorrow is 'played' just like a song...
Such coincidental imagery that mirrors Cloud and Aerith's relationship. I've always listened to this song and thought to myself, "Wow. This sounds so familiar." And now I know why... The angst. O, the angst.
First off, "unending melody"...screamed Cloud-angst. He's still hung over Aerith's death. Guilt and the need to be "forgiven". Her death is what made him further exclude himself from his party members/friends. He lives in solitude, still longing for forgiveness. Still longing for Aerith. I mean, everyone knows he's in her church for, what? A good ammount of time prior to AC, right? I think that feeling of
loving Aerith will be never-ending.
Second off, "maybe you and I will live there, too." Again with the wishful thinking. They're separated by death, yet...their love goes beyond the boundary of the dead and living. Perhaps, there's a change of a reunion. *shrugs, shrug* That, or the after-life. Could "there" be portrayed as the Promised Land?
It's just dripping with CxA; it's basically oozing out of it's pores. There's so many similarities in this song. And here it is for those who want to listen to it:
