Title: Anime Insider's October Issue
Description: An interview with Nomura
FF_Goddess - October 8, 2005 09:27 PM (GMT)
Does anyone else have this magazine? There was an interview with Tetsuya Nomura in it. It really didn't say anything that we don't already know. However, there were a few things of interest that I thought I would post:
Nomura is as proud of Advent Children as any parent-- literally. "To me, all of the characters are my children," he says. But he doesn't hesitate when asked to name his favorite AC characters: "Cloud and Kadaj... because it is their story."
Gee, what happened to "Cloud and Tifa's story"? :shifty: I guess, since, according to the CloTis, "Cloud and Tifa's story" makes CloTi canon, then "Cloud and Kadaj's story" makes Cladaj canon. :lmao: OMG, TEH ROMANTZ!!!!!
As die-hard FFVII fans know, the theme of the original video game was "life"-- seen in the life of the planet, the loss of Aerith's life, and how Cloud chose to live after discovering the truth about his past and identity. "According to scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, the theme for Advent Children is 'relief' or 'rescue'," explains Nomura.
Hmm... no beautiful drama, huh? No, Cloud and Tifa love story, huh? :shifty:
The magazine goes on to say how Cloud is "haunted by Aerith's death" and that Cloud has "chosen to go off by himself". :cleris:
I really liked this article. This writer made a few mistakes, but is clearly pro-Aerith, talking about the sadness her death caused for the fans of FFVII. Heck, he may even be pro-ClAeris, because he sure never mentioned anything remotely CloTi.

I don't have the mag as Anime Insider isn't published in the UK, but I join you in the article love-age, FF_G! I especially like the fact that Nomura said it was Cloud and Kadaj's story. I knew Cloud was ogling Kadaj during their battle! PROOFZ!
Seriously though, AC definitely focused the most on Cloud and Kadaj, not Cloud and Tifa and their beautiful love story, however badly some people want to believe it. Cloud and Kadaj were the indisputable stars of the show. Tifa's role wasn't even that huge compared to Kadaj's.
FF_Goddess - October 8, 2005 10:16 PM (GMT)
Another thing of interest in this article:
When Nomura joined Visual Works on the project, way back in 2003, the CG movie had been originally planned and announced as a 20-minute short. "It consisted of no action sequences and only featured Cloud and Tifa," remembered Nomura. "It was a good piece in itself, but as an entertainment piece or product, 20 minutes is too short and the story wasn't enough." So Nomura came up with a more intricate plot himself, and had scenario writer Kazushige Nojima-- who also worked on FFVII, VIII, and X with Nomura-- flesh out the scenes. "The new story turned out to be approximately an hour and since then we kept adding scenes and episodes. But the 20-minute piece is still the base of what we have now."
This is the second time Nomura has said this and it totally crushes the idea that the original version of AC was a completely different CloTi love story. The current AC still contains the original version, it was just expanded upon. So, what you see is what you get, CloTis. And you can quit whining about the "beautiful drama" that you were supposed to have with Cloud and Tifa. AC is the beautiful drama and it is absolutely CloTi-free. :shifty:

You know, I like to think that the 20 minute drama may have contained that scene with Cloud and Tifa talking after she's woken up after her battle with Loz. With Tifa upset that they're not a real family, and Cloud saying that he doesn't think he can save anyone, and Tifa's reaction to that and her despair that she can't get through to Cloud. Maybe it had that line that Daniele says he heard in the Venice screening "Do you think you can meet her again this way? That the way you die could be a good way, is that what you think?"
You're right though, if the 20 minute drama is the base of AC, then it proves that it wasn't a 20 minute CloTi porno tearjerker.

:lmao: Exactly! More likely, a "beautiful drama" would have shown brooding, guilt-ridden, grief-stricken Cloud riding around on Fenrir a lot, getting phone calls that he doesn't answer, and running deliveries here and yon. It probably would also have shown Tifa's frustration and sadness at not being able to get through to Cloud, who has become lost in his memories, obsessed with being forgiven by the one he holds most dear in his heart. I don't think that, just because Cloud and Tifa were the only ones shown, Aerith's presence would have been completely nil. I think that she would have been present in how her death is affecting Cloud. Most likely, this "beautiful drama" would have been all of the scenes in AC of Cloud riding around by himself on Fenrir coupled with all of the scenes of Tifa begging Cloud to stop beating himself up about the past. And, since all of that is in the finished product, the CloTis should be happy with what scraps Nomura threw them.
Seii Monogatari - October 9, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
That's what I had imagined it would be when I heard "beautiful drama." Cloud and Tifa having rabbit-sex isn't beautiful or dramatic. Tifa and Cloud giggling and smiling as they hold each other in their arms would not be a beautiful drama either. What would be dramatic is Cloud's regret and feeling that he failed Aeris, and Tifa trying to convince him to live, with him later riding off on his own. THAT is a beautiful drama, and that's essentially what we got in terms of their interaction.

:lmao: Sometimes I almost think FFG is evil. :huggle:
Great to hear this from Nomura. Finally something official to quote in reply to all that whining.

Hey, we can't forget about this quote from Nomura:
"All I can say is that Advent Children was made for the last scene," he says reverently, "it's that special"
Interpret that as you will :cleris:

If you have a scanner handy... OMG. SCAN. NOW. PLZ? :D
But it's no surprise, since he did say that that final scene, with the children, was the scene the staff wanted to show most in the movie since the start of development. Gee, I wonder why~ :cleris:

As much as I don't want to, FFG, I can see the Cloti response to that already. "AC is Cloti, so the original 20-minute video must've been Cloti too!"

Yeah, but it isn't hard to prove that all of their "evidence" is utter b.s.
