Title: Maiden From The Star - Translated
Description: Note: Chapter 6 translated
Digital Holocaust - September 30, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
Chapter SixJust make sure you know that this is chapter six of the story that's been translated as it includes Hojo (The site is a Hojo shrine) and that's why this is the only chapter that's translated so far (that I can find.)
I thought you may want to read it anyhow.
yin-chan - September 30, 2005 02:58 PM (GMT)
What??? Is this part of the Aerith Novella??? Seriously???
That's weird, just chapter 6 translated? It'll be weird reading it then... *but goes to read anyway*
Thanks DH! :huggle:
Digital Holocaust - September 30, 2005 03:12 PM (GMT)
Yes, it's a chapter from the Ultimania novella about Aeris. Chapter Six has only been translated because of course the site is a Hojo shrine and the chapter contains a lot of Hojo and thus, it is very valuable to that website. (Which means they're not interested in anything else as they're all Hojo fanatics.)
And you're welcome. :huggle:

What an interesting conversation between the two! :D

"Oh, the daughter of the Ancients. Indeed, as long as a Cetra has the power of her will, she can survive without her consciousness being scattered to the Lifestream... All you've lost is your humanity. Quite like Jenova and Sephiroth, in fact."
Well, that explains why Aerith was able to remain as herself rather than returning to the planet. That is what I suspected, but it is nice to have it confirmed. :P
QUOTE
Aeris knew that from memories that had thawed when Cloud and Tifa had fallen.
 When Cloud and Tifa fell? Does she mean when they fell into the Lifestream??? :ermm:
Wow, Hojo is more of a freak than I originally thought. :rabid:
Digital Holocaust - September 30, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
Yes, it most likely means when Cloud and Tifa fell into the Lifestream, I didn't think it meant anything else by it and the thought didn't come to mind either.
FF_Goddess - September 30, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
So, was Aerith able to see what they talked about?
Digital Holocaust - September 30, 2005 03:50 PM (GMT)
It sounds like Aeris knows every memory that Cloud and Tifa had at that point in time when they had fallen into the Lifestream. I always had a feeling that she was indirectly involved with knowing whatever was happening in the Lifestream when she became a part of it herself.

My impression was much the same. It seems that she's connected to everything happening in the Lifestream, including Cloud and Tifa's fall and the memories they revealed. It's rather nice to have it confirmed that Aeris was with them all along. ^_^

I felt exactly the same way after reading it, yin. Aeris was so wonderful in this! I think this was a great conversation - Aeris' hope, determination and belief in life contrasts really well with Hojo's evil, insanity and complete disregard for human life. I thought it was fantastic to get a more in-depth spiritual/scientific discussion from these two characters and I was surprised at how well they played off each other. It's like Aeris' goodness makes Hojo's evil stand out all for more, whilst Hojo's evilness does exactly the same for Aeris' goodness. It's the essence of both characters. I loved how twisted Hojo was, and I loved how brave and determined Aeris was too!

Thank you so much, DH!!! :huggle: *adds more thank you's to your jar*
Hah, finally, we get a glimpse of how Aerith's novella is meant to play out. I don't know how many chapters she's gonna get, but I was expecting a four-chapter short story at most, like the Case of stories. So this is awesome. SIX chapters. :hyper:
Everyone else has already expressed my admiration for Aerith in this. :aeris: I'm happy to see that Hojo went down as I'd always imagined him to-- unrepentant, proud, insane. Now I'm imagining Sephiroth forever unable to get the black soul-stain that is Hojo out of his precious Jenova-brand jacket. :P
I wonder if there'll be a chapter featuring her watching as Cloud falls into the Lifestream at the Northern Crater... or when he and Tifa uncover their true memories in the Lifestream... this chapter makes a reference to it, but I would love to see Aerith's thoughts on it while it happened.
I also wonder if SE remembers that 'powerful guardian angel watching over [Cloud]' comment in Mideel, made by a NPC when Cloud washed up there... I'd like to hope they did, and included it in the story, but I better not. :P

I've never once doubt that the guardian angel reference was a hint threw in by SE...that Aerith is still watching over him, even in death

:fangirl: Me too, STA, me too!
Now, it's just a matter of whether SE remembers what they made their own NPCs say in a seven-year old game; and whether they'll humour us (or just me) by including it in this novella. :P

Already I'm starving for the entire translation! Aeris is simply fantabulous in this!! :fangirl:
It would be awesome if they included that guardian angel reference! :fangirl: It's amazing you still remember it, Lynn and STA! If it was included, it sure would make a lot of Aeris fans happy, that's a given. ^_^

To me this reminds me very much of the way she was in the game, it's nice to see the Novella putting her across this way too :huggle:
Quote - " I won't ever let that happen" to Hojo
Quote - " I won't let you! The future is not just yours!" To Sephiroth
And FF_Goddess yeah lol I was like hurhhh at the Cloud and Tifa fell part too :P
But yeah it being the lifestream events makes sense :huggle:

If you guys are really desperate for the rest of the chapters, there's a Japanese translator about on a charity community who is translating anything you like for the mere charge of making a donation to the Katrina fund. (that's how this chapter was translated apparently.) There's more information about it on Jen0va99's journal last time I read it. But it also means that you'ld need to scan the pages of the ultimania for that person to translate....
It's not going to be too long now until we get the rest of them, just try to hang in there and I'll keep searching about until then in case I come across any more by accident. :)
Onigiri - September 30, 2005 06:54 PM (GMT)
I don't know if this has been asked yet, but, what does the memories of Cloud and Tifa when they fell into the lifestream have anything to do with the memories of her father and what happened that day? Watching those videos are optional right?
Lynn - September 30, 2005 07:08 PM (GMT)
I saw it as Cloud and Tifa's memories being "open for viewing" by Aerith while they were hanging out in the Lifestream. While they were focused on uncovering the true events of Nibelheim, the memory of watching the tapes by Gast and Ifalna is still somewhere in their memory banks-- and Aerith was able to see those from her vantage point as a consciousness within the Lifestream.
As I recall, you can watch the tapes before the Lifestream sequence.
Even though they were optional, SE obviously expects us to have seen it by now. A clip from the tapes were included in Reminiscence, after all. It's just like with Vincent and Yuffie, or Vincent meeting Lucrecia in the cave-- you're expected to have completed all of them. ^_^
Real_Emotion - September 30, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
Thank you, DH! BTW... your sig is absolutely adorable!!
Aeris Novella!!! And if has 6+ chapters! Woot! :hyper:
I loved reading this. Aeris was perfectly portrayed here- her determined and righteous personality is so admirable! And after reading this chapter, it disproves that Aeris was ever naive. There were always claims that Aeris was this naive little airhead, but this novella disproves it. She much more smarter and aware than most people give her credit for.
And after reading Case of Tifa, Aeris's Novella is like a breath of fresh air. Case of Tifa was always so... 'melodramatic' for my taste.(I swear, if I see the word family again, I will scream -_-) This is different... and I like it. ^_^
Can't wait for the next translation!
Seii Monogatari - September 30, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
I loved reading this!! ^_^ And the POV is much different than from Tifa's. This chapter seemed more info-based, but Aeris was so spirited and hopeful, that's why I love her characer so much. 6+ chapters? :woot: That sounds even longer than the entire Case of series, that we know of, at least. ^^
Lynn - October 1, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
Agreed, the feel and tone of things are very different from Tifa's. Case of Denzel and Case of Tifa were essentially post-game fanfics, with everything calming down and giving lots more time for drama and introspection.
Aerith, well-- she's still in the process of saving the world. There's no time for too much introspective drama! Perhaps this also has to do with Hojo being the featured character of this chapter. He's not exactly very focused on emotions, is he? xD
I just hope when the right characters drop by (*coughCLOUDandZACKcough*), the chapter will allow a greater view of Aerith's feelings in the process. ^_^
~Fury Brand~ - October 1, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
I didn't get Tifa's story as melodramatic o_o For the most part, apart from a few heart wrenching scenes, grieving at Aerith's resting place, mentioning of her blooming friendship with Aerith, Tifa and Marin's loneliness, Denzel's illness, I found it friggin hilarious
Bouncer! Barret! :woot:
Lynn - October 1, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
Funny, I got the exact opposite feeling-- that it was mostly lots of introspective drama, punctured by the occasional humour of vegetable-memorising!Cloud or bouncer!Barret.
But then again, that's just a first impression. I've yet to actually re-read Tifa's story, so who knows what a second read will do for me, eh? ^_^

That's how I felt when I read Denzel and Tifa's stories too! It's like a fanfic, only written by the official source. :P
Aeris' story feels more powerful to me. Maybe because of all the danger's still around, and lotsa info from Hojo's side. I'm very glad Sq kept her so in character, just like the good ol' Aeris. "I won't let you!"
A bit off topic, but I'm very glad to see Hojo saying Sephiroth's his son once again in the fic. Now let's hope it'd stop the speculations of Seph being a Valentine!

I actually have the Ultimania and I counted around 11 pages for Aeriths Novella. I remember seeing a "7" on one of the scans the translation came from, so we still have way to go...
I somehow expect this story to end right after the end of the game with some hopefull thoughts on the future. However this chapter sounded very good, hope we get more translated.

Yukari - October 1, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
I think they did a fantastic job with this. Aerith is kept in character, and like Clorith said, she's portrayed really well! I always wondered what Aerith was doing while Cloud and the others fought to save the Planet after her death - I never believed that her death was the end.

Who has the scans for this Aerith story? I can find a person to translate the scans if he is free. Or do you all have a site translator?
It is not written by the same people who did On the Road to a Smile?
