Title: Tseng Yuffie And Godo

Sephiroth's_girl - September 29, 2005 01:27 AM (GMT)
First off... I'm not sure if I spelt Yuffie's fathers name right... It is Godo right? Or something along the lines of that.

Any way...
I'm sure some of you have heard the rumor with no back up that Godo is Tseng's father and Yuffie is his sister. I my self have fallen for this rumor, until I saw this. No I will never turn from this rumor until Square releases a statement saying that Tseng is not a Wutai and is in now way related to Godo or Yuffie.

I was google image searching for pics of Tseng when I found this-

Lord Godo is the man in the Kimono to the very left. With the beard and big eyebrows.
Take a look at his hair and eyes and then look at this pic of Tseng-

Am I the only one that sees the similarities?

I see it!! I believe this too!

Materia Thief - September 29, 2005 01:45 AM (GMT)
Mmm...I see the similarities, and I agree that Tseng is probably from Wutai or at least of Wutaian (?) lineage. However, I can't see how he would be Yuffie's-long-lost-brother or what not. If he was, wouldn't he be heir to the throne? Also, why would he turn to Shinra, especially considering Wutai's history with it?

I'm with MT.

I never noticed that before, I see the simliarity too. It could just be the hairstyle though. Maybe Tseng has Wutaian blood in him, like Materia Thief said, but he wasn't raised in Wutai. I believe it's coincidence, since it was never mention where Tseng was from in FFVII.

Well quite a few characters in Final Fantasy VII look as if they were related, so I doubt there is a connection seeing as they didn't hint it in any way at all in the game. Not even the slightest little hint. ^_^

Evenstar - September 29, 2005 12:28 PM (GMT)
I dunno. I never heard of that Tseng-Godo-Yuffie rumor. Like Materia Thief, I always thought that Tseng was Wutaian or at least of Wutai origin.

First time it occured to me that Tseng was from Wutai. No wonder there were a handful of fanfics saying that Tseng came from there. At the time, I couldn't figure out why they even imagined that!

Sephiroth's_girl - September 29, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
I heard the rumor on a site that stated Tseng's mother probably had an Affair with lord Godo and then moved to Midgar and raised him there, but I personally believe it like that, but for sure I believe that he's from Wutai.

Sorry, but no, no and no. I don't believe Tseng is related to Godo and Yuffie in any way. :P

The explanation for similarities in appearence you pointed out is that Tseng, like Godo and Yuffie, is Wutaian - or at least of Wutaian descent. It's possible that he was born of Wutaian parents on a Shinra-governed continent, or he and his family could have fled Wutai during one of the wars, or he may even have defected to Shinra and betrayed Wutai. It's a mystery. There are many possibilities, but I don't believe Square intended him to be a son to Godo and brother to Yuffie. If it was their original intention for his character, then something that important pertaining to one of the main characters would have been explored in the game itself.

Like MT pointed out, if Tseng were Yuffie's brother then he'd be heir to the throne and would certainly not be working for Shinra. Also, you can have Yuffie on your team when you encounter Tseng mortally wounded in the Temple of the Ancients. Surely if he was her brother then she'd be upset? Or at least react in some way? But the only characters to be openly upset by his death are Aeris and Elena.

Those rumours you're hearing are exactly that - rumours. And fanfic material. Square has never even so much as hinted that there is any relationship between Tseng and the Kisaragis (apart from their shared race).

I'm not really seeing much similarity there. Vincent and Tifa or Jessie and Aeris have more similiarities than Tseng and Godo.

Honestly, I never got the feeling that Tseng was from Wu-tai. Nobody mentiones it, he doesn't use any Wu-Tai weapons that we know of, he just has slicked dark hair.

Besides, at this pointm, where Tseng is from obviously isn't that important because he really doesn't seem to care much about it.

I think he may use a Samurai sword in BC but I can't be sure...

One reason why I think Tseng's from Wutai is because Wutai seems to have an Asian-like setting and Tseng's name sounds definitely Asian (I once had a classmate named Tseng back in highschool :P ).

I never heard about this rumor.Yes, there may be a connection. But i don't see any simiularence between Tseng and Yuffie.I'll agree with Evenstar.

Nevi - October 1, 2005 04:34 PM (GMT)
You do see Yuffie talking to Tseng in BC in Wutai but I haven't heard anything much about that sense the first screen!

I wish there was a translation on that screen. :(
