Title: Rave Master
Description: Haru,Elie, Musica,...
Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - September 28, 2005 05:40 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone. I was just curious to see who else is a Rave Master fan. I think Hiro Mashima's art and writing is great and the characters have good chemistry. I like how the manga is a good balance of comedy, romance and action ( but more romance is always welcome i say :) ). I really like how he'll do ideas I've wanted to see w/ many charcters, like what if they changed bodies, or had their evil side come out are examples. I also love the wonderful chapter pages w/ great scenes! I always look forward to them.I love the comedic parts where their eyes bulge out. lol. I also love the cute little scenes between Haru and Elie. :fangirl:
My fave charcter is Elie followed by Haru. I think it's funny how she's ususally always thinking of gambling. I don't like Cecila all that well b/c she likes Haru too but I don't hate her like I normally would. She's alright. I like Sieghart too. I like the idea of him liking Elie and coming to protect her, and to make Haru jealous, lol. I like how he "turned" to Haru's side b/c he's one of the best charcters. Musica's cool too. You always gotta have the ladies man/ guy who doesn't follow the rules exactly. Think Wolfwood/Vash. I like both his looks.
**Vol. 16 SPOILER**
In Reina's thought of how it would be if her and Musica had met earlier in life, he has his old hairstyle again when he's older. He looks hecka cute there! I like his hair like this when he's older and the spiked when he's younger.
**POSSIBLE SPOILER**
I hated the idea of Sieghart + Reina b/c I didn't like her very much. She annoyed me, especially in the beginning. i actually ended up liking Musica + Reina tho! lol. strange of me to change my mind about her but they have good chemistry and they're cute together. It's weird cause i still hate the idea of Reina + Seighart cause i feel she's not good enough for him but i like Musica + Reina and I like Musica and Sieg equally or close enough. lol. i dunno.
There's also a big :fangirl: :fangirl: :fangirl: part in Vol. 17 that i just read yesterday! I'm still giddy. lol.
I don't really like the anime version. The art is cute but the voice actings a bit annoying and that stupid sound effect whenever it changed scenes drove me nuts. i also don't like the big changes in time line and in general. Sorry for all the anime fans.
Let me know what you guys like about Rave Master! :)
Kusari Yarou - September 29, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
I've only seen the anime version, I'm afraid :P
Musica's my favorite character. He has a great personality, awesome and very unique powers, looks hot in his old hairstyle, and even hotter in his new hairstyle :fangirl:
Sieghart was a pleasant surprise. I really thought it was evil at first. Remember that scene where he was torturing Elie?*shudders* But then he turned out to be one of those quiet brooding characters like Vincent, that's when I started to like him.
The Haru/Elie couple, I found real cute. My favorite Haru/Elie moment was after Sieghart tortures her and he's seething and he holds her in his arms. He's really protective of her...I found that sweet.
I also liked Haru's sister and the backstory of his parents, I enjoyed. Gail was really good-looking when he was young :D
i actually ended up liking Musica + Reina tho! lol. strange of me to change my mind about her but they have good chemistry and they're cute together.
I don't like Reina...I don't think she's good enough for Musica! I kinda like the idea of Musica/Melodia(his old girlfriend) because I like the idea of the ladies' man actually having a lady waiting for him at home. :P
I followed the anime as long as it aired. It was one of my favorite shows despite having some annoying trivial factors(all those unecessary subplots about characters I didn't care for). It got very exciting after they found Gail Glory and went into that underground world and met Sorasido and Lord Remi(was that her name?). Unfortunately, after all the cool battles that occured, something happened that irritated me: they killed Gail off! I was like "WTH! Just when it was starting to get good!" It felt to me like Haru no longer had anything to fight for.
After that, things went pretty much downhill...LOTS more annoying backstories...then another foe emerged, King's son whose name I don't remember. But I think the anime ended just when they were about to fight him...which irritated me as well.
yin-chan - September 29, 2005 10:34 AM (GMT)
Haha! Rave! I used to adore that show.
The ending seemed to be sort of hanging for me though... O__o I never really got to understand if Elie regained her memory or not..?
I'm a Musica x Elie fan!!! Though I also adore Haru x Elie! They're both adorable! :fangirl:
Lynn - September 29, 2005 05:11 PM (GMT)
The anime ending WAS hanging, yin-chan-- the manga continues much further from where the anime left off. D:
*devotes a few minutes to cussing out whoever decided NOT to continue it*
I hate it when anime does that. The same happened with Flame of Recca and Fruits Basket too. <_<
Anyway, back on topic-- Rave! :woot: I love this manga! Too bad nobody here seems to sell it anymore, and we were just moving past where the anime ended too.
Haru is a cute protagonist, but he doesn't really stand out for me. Reminds me of many typical heroes in anime with high ideals ("I won't sacrifice anyone to save the world"), strong beliefs, a good heart... nothing wrong with those traits, but they just didn't stand out for me. I will have to say that I almost CRIED after his dad dies, and he's sitting by his grave after that. It was just so sad, and when Haru finally broke down in Elie's arms, I almost did too. :cray:
I like Elie. Voice is a tad squeaky, but I love her Ton-fa Guns and how she can just go nuts with them. Too bad she isn't shown using them for any real battles, just blowing things up for humour. My favourite scene with her is when she was fighting against Sieg Hart. Boy, can her seiyuu scream. :ph43r: And it was just... so spooky, almost chillingly so, when she literally BEGS Sieg Hart to kill her, blood running down her arms and mouth. :ph43r:
Yes, it's morbid, but that's still my favourite part of the show. Kinda like the whole Aerith death + burial thing, really.
Favourites: Sieg Hart, Lucia, Musica
Dislikes: Don't actually hate them, but I wish Remi and her brother had more character development, instead of being one-time appearances.
Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - September 29, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
Yay! Other Rave fans! :) I like Musica's silverclaimer abilities too. It's a cool idea.
**Vol. 16 SPOILERS**
I really liked the fact that they had some cute Reina+ Musica Moments to talk. I really liked how they worked together and used the ultimate attack Silver Bonds. I also love the cute scenes of how her life would've been if they'd met when she was younger, and if he'd cheat on her, lol. I also like how Musica finally got to keep his promise. :) It's sad what happened after tho, but he'll keep fightin'.
I actually kind of liked Sieg Hart right from the beginning. He's cute looking of course, but I also wanted to see how he was connected to Elie and everything. I love when he's in the group shots in the manga. He's on Vol. 17s cover. :) I wish he'd stay permanently or at least more often.
I love all the Elie Haru scenes but I guess one of my more fave parts would be in Vol. 14:
After Elie is the prisoner of Ogre and shots off her etherion at her friends by force, Haru decides to try and cut through it. Everyone yells for him to get away but Haru says:
Elie could never forgive herself if her power was used to kill. I Have to Stop It.
Let says somethin' (lol) then
Haru:I'm Not Running!! That thing's filled with Elie's sadness!! It has to be destroyed!!
Then we see Elie who is chained up Thinking: It's MY Magic Power...
Then screams: ...So It'll Do As I Say!! ( the tubes holding her break)
You then see Haryu and Elie screaming out eachother's names.
Haru cuts it and she stops it from reforming. Elie cries and says: Haru
Back w/ Haru his friends are all surprised he did it and he says:
I heard her.
I heard Elie's voice.
Let: Her Voice?
Haru: She's crying.
Let: blah blah blah(lol)
Cecila thinks : Haru and Elie share such a deep bond. That must be why they can feel eachother, even when they're so far apart. Elie is quite a girl...
Haru says let's go save our friends, Doryu explains he hurt them b/c he wants a world of darkness, Then he thinks about them and says:
And Elie... After all that she went through(clenched teeth) then they show flashbacks of her, sieg, reina, haja and reesha's grave, they show Elie happy about learning to control etherion, Haru: After all that... After she finally came to terms w/ it all... ...You HAD TO STOMP ALL OVER HER!! I'LL NEVER FORGIVE YOU FOR THIS!!
pretty long. heh. I just love their connection and how he doesn't want anyone to hurt her. So cute! :3. Also you have have have to read Rve Vol. 17 for an awesomely cute 2 page thing if Elie+Haru.
I thought it was so sad w/ Sakura and Gale. Weeps.
The manga is currently at Vol. 35 in Japan. Holy Crap huh? It only has til Vol. 17 in the U.S.
**SPOILER**
I can't wait til the later volumes when they show Haru+Elie ogether and when they all, even Sieg go back in time! I really can't wait! They see Shiba and Reesha! :fangirl:
I really want to know what Shiba wanted to tell Reesha! I think they're a cute couple.
That was sad when Haru broke down. Poor thing.
Elie does end up fighting a bit more later, I don't watch the anime so I don't know where it leaves off.
I agree.

he's hecka cute in the vol. 17 pic. :)

Kusari Yarou - September 30, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
Ah, I didn't actually see the episode where Gale dies so I didn't see the scene you were talking about, the one with Haru breaking down in Elie's arms.
Too bad...
Schala - September 30, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
I love Sieghart! :fangirl: I get excited every time he appears, which isn't often enough. The first epsiode I watched was End of Time Part 1 (my fav.!) and the at the end when Elie was sitting down and Sieghart was coming towards her from the back... It was agony waiting for the next episode. I was so mad at Haru for coming and messing up the nice morbid scene. Everyone else is okay, I guess. I liked Shiba and Resha too. So sad...
It's odd how a seemingly kiddish anime like Rave Master has some surprisingly tragic tales. King's was sad, Shiba's was kind of sad, Gale's was sad, etc. What I really want to know is Elie's past! They keep giving little hints but I want to know all of it!
The '3173' thing was pretty cool too. I never would've guessed.
Kusari Yarou - October 1, 2005 02:38 PM (GMT)
One thing I didn't like though was the totally unecessary backstories of other characters. 'Cmon, do we REALLY need to know what happened between the blue guy and the pudding monsters?
And I think they already told Elie's past! Wasn't she a failed experiment of some sort?
Lynn - October 1, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
Sieg thought she was a failed experiment, and that Ethelion was a result of that experiment. But Elie later remembers that she's been able to use Ethelion before she ended up at that laboratory (I think she's shown using it to light her birthday candles when she was a small child), and that she used to even have a mother and father.
So Elie must've ended up in that lab somehow, but being an experiment isn't her true past.
(Bear in mind I'm basing all this on what was shown in the anime, so if anything was released in the manga to debunk this belief... pleaee let me know gently. )

I didn't mind its inclusion in the manga. I thought it was a cute, amusing sidestory. ^_^ I didn't think it warranted a whole episode to itself, but I didn't mind it. In fact, I usually lap this sort of backstory/sidestory things up.

Yes, it was! :woot: I was shocked for DAYS after we were shown that!
My brother and I were joking how the mangaka has mastered the art of l337-speak through that.
Schala - October 1, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
The anime never got very far since there were only about 60 episodes. :( The last one I saw before Cartoon Network cut it was when Sieg Hart visited the old laboratory that he destroyed and found something shocking. He went 'E-L-I-E... Oh no!" and next he's shown going to Symphonia. I have to see him again!
In the manga, Sieg sees a license plate and car tracks at the lab ruins and finds that the experiment 3173 never existed in the first place. So, Elie isn't an experiment after all. But what exactly is she then? Resha was too young to have a kid, so Elie can't be her grandchild. Maybe the grandkid of a cousin or sister? I haven't gotten a chance to read the later parts, so if anyone has news that'll be great.
I don't like Griff or Plue. Especially Griff. That's why Rave Master isn't my fav. anime, there're all these goofy characters that mess things up.
Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - October 1, 2005 05:10 PM (GMT)
I like Griff and Plue. They aren't my faves tho. I liked the 3173 too. You're right Lynn, in the manga she has a mom and dad and lit her cake. I'm curious to see what animal Alpine will be. I also want to see more of him, possibly w/ Reesha along w/ Shiba.
Since it seems that some of you are lacking the great manga, here is a site that has all the english translated manga so far AND up to vol. 32 in Chinese I think it said. I think some chapters are under construction. It may take a while to download. Enjoy!

I thought Plue was adorable but ugh, that Griff was totally pointless :P
The last episode in the anime revealed that King's son, Luca(think that was his name) was still alive. And then...huh? It ended! I was so disappointed!

Oh cool...thanks!
Schala - October 1, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
Ah, thank you! I shall have a nice time reading all these! The later volumes may be difficult to read though, I haven't read a manga in Chinese for a really long time. :gift:
Lynn - October 1, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
:woot: RAVE MANGA!!! :woot: Thank you thank you thank you!!! *goes download immediately*
Oh, I don't mind Griff and Plue. ^_^ At first I disliked Plue immensely, but as the anime wore on I suddenly just liked him. It feels similar to how some of the characters would suddenly get stars in their eyes after seeing Plue! :lmao:
I like Rave Master partly because of these unexplainably goofy characters, though. There's something awesome about Haru, Elie and Musica sitting by a bar with a bartender with a three foot-tall forehead. Or how Griff cannot be sliced in half after 6pm, because he'll die... but for SOME reason, it's perfectly fine if that happens before it!
It also makes me actually pay more attention to the background characters, because some of them just look plain weird!
Schala - October 1, 2005 05:27 PM (GMT)
I suppose the weird characters are mostly okay. But the Big Butt Bandits are the limits of my tolerance. >_<

Me when Griff "dies": :hyper:
Me when Griff is alive after all: <_<
I'm a total Musica fangirl! When I first saw him I was thinking how cool his powers were...and it didn't hurt that he was cute! Then from his new hairstyle onwards...he got hotter and hotter every episode. The clincher was him in that coat *drools*
Sieg is awfully good-looking too but I don't like his hair...so disheveled :P
Schala - October 2, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
I've been reading too much Rave Master manga. Tired... But must continue.
Rave Master has so many good looking guys. Who would've thought that Let had such a cool human form? Musica's cool too; except I don't really like him with Reina. Even if I did feel really bad for her later on. :cray: I adore Shiba (after seeing what a hunk he was in his earlier days) and Sieg Hart! He hardly appears but every time he does I'm like . I really like the hair in all its disheveled-ness, and his eyes are the most awesome purple! :fangirl: The best thing is that he's powerful and can use all elements of magic!
Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - October 3, 2005 05:10 PM (GMT)
You're welcome everyone. I like seeing the weird characters too. It's something fun and different. Actually, in the manga Griff can stay split for six and a half hours. It doesn't matter what time of day.
See, that's one of the annoying anime changes. I don't understand why the anime creators change things. Why change something so small like that? And the one that made me stop watching it was when Shuda appeared! I had read the manga beforehand and when I saw him I was like "...What are YOU doing here!!" They don't even kno about his whereabouts! err.
I agree about a lot of good looking guys in the Rave Master world. And as Hiro's drawing skills improve, they just keep getting better! (I'm not insulting him. In a later volume, probably 10 - 12, he says to look back at volumes 1 and 2 and see the difference. I did and I was shocked! There is a big difference in style and they even looked older! and cuter of course :) )
I like Sieg's hair too. It sorta changes slightly in the manga ( b/c of my earlier statement). I think it would be interesting to see his background story. Can you imagine a chibi Sieg? :fangirl: I agree that it's awesome that he's an elemental master. In the manga, Sieg has blue eyes. I wonder if they are going to have Sieg and Haja duel later on.
One thing that is weird about the manga tho is they keep calling Haru, earlier on, the blonde haired kid. Haru isn't blonde in the manga or anime. He has like a light silver colored hair. He never corrects them. That's one thing I didn't get.
I really love this manga tho. I bother my local bookstore calling in asking if its come out yet. lol. I'm a pest.
Lol, I think the jiggle butt gang are funny. They are so stupid. I also think it's funny how Haru just ditched them on the train when they were supposed to be playing hide and seek! As long as they don't appear all the time, I have no problem w/ them.
I'm really curious to see more young Shiba and Reesha! I'm praying we'll get some cute scenes between the two.
And of course more Haru+Elie scenes please!
Kusari Yarou - October 3, 2005 05:35 PM (GMT)
Oh, I almost forgot about Shiba! Hard to believe that the perverted old guy was such a hunk in his younger days! His story with Resha was very sad

He really didn't age well, did he? :(

Agreed. Back in the earlier volumes everyone's faces seemed so round! It wasn't really so bad, but I do like the older look.
I'm so happy that Sieg got almost a whole volume to himself. :fangirl: It was so hard to figure out what was going on though... I want to see a chibi Sieg too! But the one thing I didn't really like is how he changed and started to believe that sacrifice wasn't needed for peace. I liked the old Sieg more! And sorry to ask, Mako, but who's Haja?
Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - October 4, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
No need to say sorry Schala! Haja is a member of the Oracion Six. He is the group's magic user, like Sieg( except stronger <_< ). In vol. 12 Sieg talks to Haja and also adds that Odds are his specialty. He's the dude with two faces, one is on his forehead and is a happy expression while his normal on is grumpy. I hope I didn't spoil this for anyone! Sorry if I did!
I bet Sieg and Haja will duke it out later since they have the same type of powers.
I'm also curious to know how Jegan and Jeid are connected. It seems like earlier on he had a more "normal" looking nose but then it got more of a "beak" type honker ( think Wolfwood ). Lol. Oh well.
For those of you reading the manga now, I was just wondering if there are major differences you noticed. I only watched a few episodes and they were way changed to me. It would've been cute if that whole cave w/ the sleepy flowers Haru + Elie thing happened, but it didn't.
If you have another question from vol. 1-17, I'll try my best to answer it. :)
One idea I think would be cute that Hiro could do is somehow they, Haru, Elie, Musica, Sieg get turned back to their kid selves! And Let would have to take care of them! Lol! I could just see them being little pests and Musica sticking his tongue out and making faces at Let. :D Elie would probably be a hyper little thing. Sieg would probably sit alone, knowing him, while Haru will play w/ whoever , probably tag w/ Elie. Let the madness ensue. :)
Schala - October 6, 2005 07:57 PM (GMT)
I still have no idea who Haja is since vol. 12 isn't up for download. :( Truth be told, I can hardly follow what's going on in the later volumes. Oh well. I only noticed the difference in terms in the anime, like how it was Demon Card in the manga but they changed it to Shadow Guard. I expect 'demon' wasn't approved. :P
Sad to say, I'm not a great fan of Haru x Elie. I know it's practically canon, but still... I kinda liked a Shiba type guy for Elie (you know, so that it could be a Shiba x Resha relationship!)
Edit: I just finished volume 30 and 31 today and the truth is surprising, to say the least! Elie's past is finally revealed! :hyper:
SPOILERS
She IS Resha! Goodness, I wouldn't have expected it simply because she should've aged to be an old woman by now! But apparently it's some magic thing; I'll have to go back and read it again. Poor Sieg... I'll miss seeing him so much! It was so sweet when Shiba met Elie/Resha again though! I wonder if this would complicate Haru and Elie's relationship, I mean, her being Resha and all. I've been wondering so long that it's weird to actually know what happened. It should be ending soon, I think.
