I'm not exactly a fangirl, but I'd love to join, because in my opinion, Rufus Shinra is a deeply interesting and ambiguous character (reminds me that I simply have to write a fanfic about him one day). I agree with you, Tifa L - he added a lot to FFVII, and he had a wonderful moment in AC. So...yeah. I appreciate his character.

And...am I the only one who was shocked by his "death" in FFVII? I really hadn't seen that one coming, and it affected me even though he was "one of the bad guys". :sad:

Couldn't agree more. ^_^ After all, he's a young man who wants to rule the world with fear - hardly the cuddly type. :P He's ruthless, cunning, charming, unsentimental, controlling and ambitious, and that's what I love about his character. He's a great enemy for Cloud and Avalanche in FFVII; for example, even when both Shinra and Avalanche want to stop Meteor and save the Planet, their different perspectives and goals stop them from being able to work together or help each until near the very end. And as a person, Rufus embodies a lot of what Avalanche stand against - all he has was gained from the suffering of the people in the slums. But he's not just a cut-and-dry bad guy either. Even though his values system is radically different to Avalanche's social conscience, he seems to have moments of conflict and introspection - I loved that observation of his about Cloud being Sephiroth's alter-ego - it shows he thinks about his enemies more than when he's just plotting to stop them, and tries to study their minds as well. He's also extremely intelligent and capable (and his remarks towards Heidegger are always fun), so he's rather admirable in a way.

In FFVII, I would definitely consider him a villain, but a very charming, cool and fascinating one! :wub:

And as for AC... :o . That's all I have to say. :whistle:

One time in film class and theater class, we talked about how villains should look like. Specifically a psychotic killer. The image that popped out from my classmates minds was someone who resembled so much of Rufus. Haha. (okay it may seem irrelevant here but the mysterious air around Rufus ShinRa himself makes me more curious on what he really is and what he's all about)... :wub:

I was very pleasantly surprised to see his position in Advent Children. Short but sweet. He wanted to pay his debt back to a world that he had helped wreck! :wub: But even when he was on the "good" side, he still remained his calculating, intelligent self! What about that scene with Kadaj, eh? And I liked how rational he was, choosing Cloud as the only option against the SHM because, as Hyper said, he knows his enemies. Apparently, he also knows when a former enemy can make a good aly

I liked the part in the movie when he was already shooting the box. Even if he was weak (it shows coz he's trembling and using his right hand infected by Geostigma to fire his gun), it shows that he still has the effort to help the world somehow by preventing world destruction again.
