Title: About The Novella

Digital Holocaust - September 17, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
My webmaster (at the Citadel) posted this today... I thought you guys should be prepared for it too.

"I picked up the FFVII:AC Prologue book on my way to work this morning (it's quite nice, BTW... reminds me of the FFVII Official Establishment File). Turns out there are two "On the Way to a Smile" stories-- "Case of Denzel" and "Case of Tifa".

BTW, the price as listed on the back of the book is ¥952, not ¥1000 ^_^

I wonder if the Tifa story will be online as well... hmm..."

wilhelm - September 17, 2005 12:36 PM (GMT)
952 yen is probably the price of the item without tax, and 1000 yen is price with.

(No story spoilers, but just in case) Tifa's story should be up next, since Denzel's chapter ended at 1-4.

Edit. Sorry, I read that as 'when' will it be online.

What's the ISBN on it? I've only seen it online in one place and they're not taking orders anymore.

Edit. nevermind, I found that now (4-08-779339-7).

I'm confused. If the novella is only about Denzel and Tifa, then why did AC.net tell us that the novella was about Aerith?

wilhelm - September 17, 2005 01:26 PM (GMT)
The story in the Prologue book is a different one to the Aerith one in the Ultimania Omega book ^^;

Absolutely no idea Anastar, that's the first time I heard it was meant to tell us about Aeris. I was always under the impression it was just Denzel's story alone. But now, it seems that it's split up into two parts, Denzel's story and Tifa's story.

I've got a feeling Tifa's story will explain all about Barret's search for a new energy source, taking care of Marlene and Denzel, and of course... possibly her relationship with Cloud.

How that's gonna go, I have no idea either - but if Squeenix are being consistant then I believe they'll stick with the "more than friends, less than lovers" relationship and we shouldn't have anything to worry about.

That's if Squeenix want to stay consistant. :ermm:

Ohhhhh... so the one being translated at AC.net now is from the Prologue? I didn't realize that! I thought it was from the Ultimania!

You'll be translating the Aerith novella for us... right, Wilhelm? *bats eyelashes* I'll be your love slave!

Very honestly, I doubt it's anything to worry about.

FF_Goddess - September 17, 2005 05:32 PM (GMT)
Frankly, I would love to hear what Tifa's been up to since the end of FFVII. Maybe it will tell all about her reestablishing Seventh Heaven, taking care of Marlene, what Barret's been up to, what she thinks of Denzel, if she thinks of Aerith, how she feels about Cloud now, and maybe even a little about the other members of AVALANCHE. ^_^ I'm not worried about any CloTi implications. S-E was pretty clear about the sibling-type relationship that Cloud and Tifa have in AC, so I wouldn't be concerned.

Marionette - September 17, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
I bet the book will explain how she got that ring and what it means.
Looking forward to it.... <_<

Am I the only one who thinks Square is overdoing all this?

Kusari Yarou - September 22, 2005 09:29 AM (GMT)
You're not the only one...they've got cash on their minds, Square Enix

Actually, I *am* looking forward to it. Finally, no more speculation!! And let's not forget that Barret wears one as well! ^_^

And its a lot closer to the finger than Tifa's got!

FF_Goddess - September 22, 2005 03:10 PM (GMT)
And yet the CloTis are all "They focused on Tifa's ring more, so Barret's ring means nothing!" PUH-LEEZE...

Cloud doesn't wear a ring and yet Barret and Tifa do? OMFG, BARRIFA IZ TEH CANNON!!! :lmao:

Nope.

Sure, I squee at the idea of reading more about the FFVII world, but... yeah, really hoping they'll wrap things up with the short stories and end it there. There's only so much exposition I need on things; imagination more than suffices for the rest for me. ^_^

It looks like Cloud (I'm assuming it's Cloud because of the description of the bike) is still visiting the church even 2 years prior to Advent Children according to the novella.

QUOTE
"There were no rats around. He arrived at Sector 5 after wandering and hunting for hours and came to a rundown church. A bike was parked in front of the door. He hadn't seen a model like that before. But what caught his eye more was the cell phone hanging on the handle."

Just thought you'ld be interested.

Ohoh, yes it is Cloud's bike...

QUOTE
He hung up the phone, fighting the urge to throw it to the ground and smash it to bits. But he didn't and tried one more time. He tried to remember Levy's number, but he never knew it in the first place. Instead, he looked at the phone's received call history and decided to dial the top most number. A ring. Then someone answered.

"Cloud, it's rare for you to call up. Is something wrong?"

Interesting, so his visits to the church didn't just start during Advent Children, eh? And he rarely calls Tifa too, hmmm... that definatly doesn't sound like a man who's in love with Tifa, does it.

Lynn - September 23, 2005 08:19 AM (GMT)
I noticed that immediately too.

I'm trying to see if there's any real timeline stated in Denzel's story... I'm wondering how long it was since the fall of Midgar before he finally reaches the church. That would indicate how long before AC that Cloud has been visiting the church. ^_^

But yes, apparently, he calls Tifa VERY rarely. You know it's bad when when a call comes from his phone, and Tifa immediately askes "What's wrong?"

~Fury Brand~ - September 23, 2005 10:05 AM (GMT)
:woot:

So if this is true it means Cloud did indeed hightail it off to Aerith related areas after the end of FFVII? :P

So he didn't break his words ... "The Promised Land ... I think I can meet here there" :fangirl:

Hrmmm this is interesting maybe this is the way it goes, Cloud = church, Denzel = find church, Denzel = call Tifa, maybe Cloud comes back and takes Denzel to Tifa, he's just a kid, an orphan, Tifa decides to take care of him, Cloud stays for a bit, then Cloud hightails it back off to the church again :P

Lynn - September 23, 2005 10:40 AM (GMT)
If Cloud's not living there, he's definitely visiting. Kinda wish Denzel got a look at the inside to let us know if there's a sleeping bag there or not... Either way, it's too sweet for words, so yay! :woot:

And yes, he would be keeping his promise if he was looking. :fangirl:

I'm thinking it's something like that too. ^_^ I doubt Tifa is the one who finds him, since she wouldn't know where Denzel was calling from at the time, right?

Poor Denzel, though. The way he just broke down on the phone... his poor little kiddy shoulders were being crushed under all his burdens. You could just feel his gratitude for Tifa, Marlene, Cloud...

I also think it's cute how he looks up to Cloud. <3

I'm curious, though. There's one part where Denzel says something like, "I'm alive because of so many people... Tifa, Marlene, Cloud and..."

Maybe it's just me looking too deeply into nothing, but who was meant to be after that "and"?

That scene wouldn't be 2 years, at the most it would be 1 years before since that's how long they said Denzel was living in the station and this scene is after he left.

Though Tifa's chapter would probably give more details on it, since she actually knows Cloud and it goes up to the point where Cloud runs away.

yin-chan - September 23, 2005 01:35 PM (GMT)
What? Where are you guys reading this? Are new translations out?? Wha..??

Digital Holocaust - September 23, 2005 01:54 PM (GMT)
Here you go Yin-chan, the new chapters are mostly on page 2.

Citadel recording of the chapters.

You're probably right Wilhelm, I guess we just hold out until Tifa's story is released.

Ah, thanks for the confirmation, wilhelm! I only vaguely recall there being mention of how long Denzel stayed at the train station, but couldn't find it for the life of me.

If it IS one year... ah, there goes AC's on-the-fence move again. Now nobody can say "he lived with Tifa longer than he stayed in the church, ergo love!". :P

Here's hoping Tifa's chapter will shed some light on what the rest of AVALANCHE did in those two years, but I sorta doubt it. Maybe even set the background for how the WRO came to be (something about how the WCM says they want to "restore the world" during his speech to Cloud made me think he's involved in it... at least funding it, maybe).

*dances impatiently waiting for the chapter*

Or... egads, what if SE becomes cruel and only released Denzel's chapter as a teaser?!

"Like it? Good. Now go out and buy the whole Prologue to get Tifa's story! *cackle*"
