Title: Yu Yu Hakusho
Schala - August 30, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
YYH was my favourite anime for a really long time, until Cartoon Network stopped showing it. <_< Hopefully, now that all the DVDs are out, it'll screen again, though it's unlikely seeing as Naruto and One Piece (another great anime!) are already scheduled. I guess YYH is rather old... :(
Anyway, I liked the first season best, although the Dark Tournament was cool as well. I liked pretty much all the characters, although my favourites were Botan and Kurama! Hiei was great too, but Kurama completely charmed me. I really couldn't decide if he looked better as Shuichi or as Youko. :fangirl:
I watched the movie more than ten times and loved it! Well, except the voice acting. >_< I wish that there was more about Kuronue too. Such a waste of a potential brilliant character. The first 'movie' doesn't count... Not enjoyable. How I wish CN would start showing YYH again!
Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - August 30, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
I'm a YYH fan too! My favorite is Kurama too! Keiko is my 2nd fave.
I'm also mad that they took YYH off the air. I thought it would be just a short break but alas! it was gone. I still want to see the last episodes! I've read a little about it but not much. I only have vol. 1-5 of the manga. I'm so broke it's sad.
I rented the movie once. When they first started talking I was like "What the heck?! That's not Yusuke!" lol. I didn't even think they'd be different voice actors. They should of just used the same voice actors, the fools.
I think I like the earlier episodes better because they included Keiko more and it had more humor to it. It's good either way tho. When I was first looking the anime up, it said Kurama had a gf. But I've never seen him w/ anyone in the anime! I guess it was just a stupid rumor. Poor Kurama, all alone. :(
Schala - August 31, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
Kurama didn't have a girlfriend in the anime, but in the manga there were some indications of interest in a classmate, Maya. So I guess the rumors aren't really wrong. But that never came to anything, since he had to erase her memories of her affection for him. Sad maybe, but I'm kinda relieved. I never thought any girl worthy of him, certainly not a girl who appeared for only one or two chapters!
I got used to the voice acting in the movie after watching it a couple of times. Kuwabara sounds too smart... I watched it in Japanese too, but I still don't understand why they got a woman to do Kurama's voice. Megumi Ogata is supposed to be a really good voice actress, but still... I thought Yakumo was cool though.
I really want to watch the end of the Sensui saga, as well as the Makai Tournament! If only I had enough money to rent the DVDs. :(
i pRomiSe** - August 31, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
I like YYH... I just don't know much about it. XD I read like, the first two mangas at a book store and saw one episode of the anime... My friend knows more about it then I do. But, yeah, I like it. :)
FF_Goddess - August 31, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
I love Yu Yu Hakusho! :D In fact, I have all of the episodes on DVD!
And, yep, Kurama is my favorite!

:o So envious... I got up to volume 6 of the manga (first three were awesome!), but then decided that the anime was better. Then again, the only YYH DVDs I have are the movie, and Terrible Truths (ep.67-70). :(
The thing I like best about YYH is its characters! Kurama and Hiei have to be two of the coolest anime guys! But maybe that's why they're constantly paired together in fanfics. :puke: I seem to have forgotten exactly why I love Kurama, but it doesn't matter, he remains my fav. bishie!
Huntress Krystle - August 31, 2005 06:38 AM (GMT)
Yay! A thread for Yuyu Hakusho! I've seen this anime a lot of times and I absolutely love it. Since it's one of the top 5 most populat animes here in our country, reruns are shown often so there's need for me to buy my own dvd set lol.
My favorite character would have to be Raizen. I don't know if you are familiar with him, but he is Yusuke's father and is the strongest warrior in the monster world/realm. He is so awesome and powerful. I like Kurama too, but only when he's a human wolf. I've also seen the movie but it was disappointing because it has nothing to do with the original storyline...
Schala - August 31, 2005 03:30 PM (GMT)
I know about Raizen, though I haven't seen the later episodes. But one thing confuses me: how can Raizen be Yusuke's father? Atsuko doesn't strike me as the victim of a romantic tragedy... I've read some places say that he was Yusuke's ancestor, but not his father.
Huntress Krystle - August 31, 2005 07:13 PM (GMT)
***spoiler***
From what I remember, Raizen used to be a cannibal and raided villages to hunt humans. Everyone was afraid of him, except for one woman. She looked him straight into his eyes with no fear. That impressed Raizen..and guess what happened. Yep, they ended up being in bed, and thus, Yusuke was born. I am not a hundred percent sure of it but that's how it was shown and narrated in our local version. When Yusuke finally met his father, he was dying because he stopped eating humans after meeting his mother.

I've heard most of that explanation, but I still can only think of Atsuko as a drunk...
FF_Goddess - September 1, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
It wasn't Yusuke's mother Atsuko that bedded Raizen, it was Yusuke's ancestral mother (in other words, his great-great-great-great-great-you get the point-grandmother). ^_^
Anti-R - September 1, 2005 03:13 AM (GMT)
Ah Yu Yu Hakusho. I've seen it around the same time Sailormoon did. That and Ranma 1/2 were instrumental for me being an anime fan.
I used to watch it loyally, and I've actually seen the ending (Kuwabara studying in college, I find it a lame way to drop his character in the last part but oh well, education is important and my respect for this character increased a gazillion for this). The manga is fun, but didn't completed it.

So you mean that Raizen is Yusuke's ancestral father? That would make much more sense, but a lot of sites say that he's Yusuke's father, and I took it to mean directly.
I didn't think that Kuwabara would get into college, but I suppose his grades could be decent if he studied. For those who've seen the ending (I really got to watch it soon...), did they mention anything about what Kurama was doing? I read that he worked in his stepfather's company or something, and I think one place said that he didn't go to college! I'm hoping that's a false rumor.

I never really watched Sailormoon, but Ranma 1/2 is pretty good. The first anime I liked was probably Digimon, I guess. But that was even before I knew what anime was. I actually had a bunch of YYH stickers that I got from a friend years before I even liked anime, but never knew it until much later when I started watching YYH, and I found that the stickers looked very familiar... How weird that I had YYH merchandise in my possession the whole time without knowing it!
Son_Pan - September 1, 2005 05:14 AM (GMT)
omg! YYH!
alot of you like Kurama. lol. interesting selection, but i'd have to go with Yusuke. i love the whole badass character. especially with him, works out well with his look.
hmm, what can i say? alot of people call it yu yu stupid show. which i find really funny, becuase thats probably the worst attempt at trying to insult a show, that i have ever heard.
anyway, im a fan of botan, as well, shes's my 2nd fav. character, and i know everyone says that shes best with Koenma, but im still for some Yusuke and Botan lovin, even though it didnt happen.
Schala - September 1, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
Well, Kurama was the favourite bishie in Japan for quite a while (or so I've heard) among fangirls... What is there not to like about him? :P
Oh, I remember how disappointed I was when I found out that Yusuke and Keiko were together. I was sure that Botan would be his love interest... I don't like her with Koenma though, I have something against the guy's toddler form.
Anti-R - September 1, 2005 11:38 PM (GMT)
Heh yeah, I'd like Botan end up with Yusuke too (loves the movie because it has Botan x Yusuke implications the most). :P
Oh well... as for her being paired up with Koenma, it was sort of unlikely.
Schala - September 1, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
The movie did seem to point that way... Somehow, I liked Botan better in the movie than in the series. She was so beautiful in the white clothes with her hair down, shining and all. Plus, it showed people that she wasn't just an airhead (thank goodness)! I was really very impressed with her in the movie, so cool! I kept watching the part where Yakumo was trying to take the orb from her body, and she didn't let him. So brave!
Out of all the Botan pairings, Koenma would be the most likely, although none of them are really that possible in the first place. Yeah, I suppose Botan and Koenma are just boss and employee. Yusuke and Botan would have been cute though...

Now I finally understand. Thanks for the clarification!
Are there any Kuwabara fans in here? Don't get me wrong, I'm not his fan..but he's always good for a laugh! :huggle: It's a pity though, that he didn't become as goodlooking as his sister!
Schala - September 4, 2005 07:08 PM (GMT)
I'm not really Kuwabara's fan either, but he's makes a pretty good sidekick (sorry Kuwabara fans!). Poor Kuwabara, he's the least popular of the four main guys... It's little wonder though, if you ask me. :P But it's always nice to see him do funny stunts; I'll never forget those faces he made during the Dark Tournament. :lmao: Shizuru is a pretty cool gal, but she didn't get much screentime. It made me so sad for her when Sakyo died.
Paine - September 5, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
i love this show so much! Kurama rox ^_^

I dunno but Kuwabara's hair reminds of a slice of pizza. :lmao: Yea, poor him..I don't know if he actually has fans. But I don't think the show would be as good if he weren't there (*pats Kuwa on the head*). :winner:
I have a question. Did he end up with Hiei's sister? Did they actually become a couple? (forgot her name, sorry) although I doubt that Hiei would permit it
FF_Goddess - September 8, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
Yukina? I don't know. Did she ever return from Ice World (or whatever her area of Demon World was called)?
Tifa Lockheart - September 8, 2005 07:20 AM (GMT)
Now that you've mentioned Yukina.....
I hate the the fact that Kuwabara has a crush on her. :puke:
Yu Yu Hakusho was one of my all-time favorite anime from childhood. ^_^' I still like it up to now and whenever I could catch it on TV from time to time or maybe see some friends watching it, I'd still watch it. It was funny and full of action.
I hate Keiko though. I never really liked her.
The strange thing about Yu Yu Hakusho being aired here in the Philippines, is that during the first part, they claimed that Kurama is a girl. They even changed their names to English names, like Yusuke became "Eugene" and Hiei became "Vincent" and Kurama became "Denise"-turned "Dennis" eventually, and Kuwabara became "Alfred", Koenma is "Jericho", Botan is "Charlene", Keiko is "Jenny", Yukina became "Mikaela", Genkai became "Jeremiah" (what the hell?!)
It became confusing.
But the series was successful nonetheless. However, other people here really think that their names are Vincent, Alfred, Eugene and Dennis instead of the original Japanese ones. It just gets annoying.

From the spoilers I read (still haven't watched the ending yet...), he's still trying to get her to be his girlfriend, but Yukina either hasn't caught on, or just isn't interested. I think she went to stay with Genkai, so Kuwabara visits her every week. But no, they're not a couple.
When I first read about the Phillipines' version of the names, I was rather shocked. I wonder why they changed the names so much; they're not even close! No offense to all the Eugenes, Dennises and Alfreds (can't say anything about Vincent), but they seem so ordinary for anime characters. The idea of Kurama as a girl is even more weird. Is that why Hiei and Kurama are paired together so often?

I keep forgetting how long it's been since it was launched! Japan didn't even have any YYH stuff; said it was too old. :( But I got Inuyasha merchandise as a consolation. :)
Don't really like Keiko either...
Anti-R - September 10, 2005 04:30 AM (GMT)
Not been said, but Kuwabara seems to be still trying to court her.
So far, the series never really said anything if he ever found out Yukina's being Hiei's sister. But Hiei seems to be working with Mukuro now than building up his familial ties... so, maybe...
Sorry, I'm a fan of this ship.
I also didn't like Keiko, but am so glad she doesn't fall to the damsel in distress that NEEDs to be kidnap for sake of plot category. Still, I wish she had more personality...

See, one more thing I hate about animes being dubbed here in the Philippines is that they often change some parts of the story. Like what you said for instance, that Kuwabara didn't knew that Yukina was Hiei's sister. In our local version, he does know. Another one - Raizen being Yusuke's father. They didn't clarify that he was only an ancestor. >_< (*skins Filipino anime translators alive*).
I really think I need to buy my own copy.
Keiko.. I don't hate her but she's my least favorite among the girls because she seems to be the most helpless.
And yeah, I agree with Tifa about how annoying the name changing is. I honestly don't see the point of changing them. They're not hard to pronounce and are quite easy to remember so....

Fair enough. :) It's just unusual; normally there're so many Kurama fangirls (including me, of course). Eh, I always preferred Sesshomaru to Inuyasha though. Must be a result of liking Sephiroth too much.

Yes, Kurama's my fave guy in YYH. ^_^ Yusuke is a close second followed by Kuwabara (HEART!). Keiko, Botan, Yukina, and Shizuru all rock my socks (and yes, in that order).

Based on what I know he's over a thousand yrs. old. But the again, I'm not sure about that. lol :winner:
Which Kurama do u like more? The one in red hair or the one in silver hair? I presonally like him more in his wolf form.

Huntress -- Kurama is a fox, not a wolf.
