Title: AC Image Song
Description: "Calling" by Kyosuke Himuro

Anastar - August 29, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
From Advent Children.net:

AC Image Song Announced

Information about the image song for Advent Children, "CALLING" by Kyosuke Himuro, has been added to the official site. Originally from his '89 album Neo Fascio, Nomura thought that this song was the most appropriate in fitting with the world view of the film.

Lyrics! Anyone have lyrics? Possibly in English?

Materia Thief - August 29, 2005 05:38 AM (GMT)
YES! LYRICS?! ANYONE! :o

But anyway, interesting, although I do wish Maaya Sakamoto was allowed to sing.

Oh well, fascinating. ^_^

Kaldea - August 29, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Well he didn't say theme song... Just a song that sums up the AC world I guess.

Materia Thief - August 29, 2005 05:47 AM (GMT)
I understand, but also, the song sounds really upbeat, it's kinda weird.

Anastar - August 29, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
Did you notice that Nomura didn't pick Himuro's song named "Lovesong" as the theme song? The Cloti's will be furious. :lmao:

I think it's more likely that "Calling" would have to do with Aerith's spirit calling to Cloud than anything Tifa could do. The only other possibility would be Sephiroth or Jenova summoning Cloud to the Reunion through his Jenova cells or something.

I'd love to see the lyrics, too! :fangirl:

yin-chan - August 29, 2005 10:50 AM (GMT)
Ohhh lyrics please!!!!

It sounds fairly pretty from what I can hear from the preview - I wonder how the AC remake would be like!? *cant wait for my AC OST to arrive in the mail* :fangirl:

I agree MT, it would be so lovely if Maaya Sakamoto sang a song for AC as well, though. ^_^

Clorith - August 29, 2005 12:58 PM (GMT)
I've been searching for it but can't find lyrics anywhere! *wails*

Trust Nomura to pick a song from 16 years ago!!

Important scene?!! :fangirl:

*wails with Clorith* Me too! I've searched everywhere for the lyrics, but there's nothing. :(

I don't really know about the song, though. It's very...80's. I would much prefer a song with some kind of theme of Final Fantasy in it, perhaps Aerith's theme and something else, or a Maaya Sakamoto song, you know? I just think it's a cop-out in a story like this to use someone else's work.

But it could grow on me, I think.

Ooooo, Clorith, so this song is for a special moment?! Oh this is really exciting. :D I want to know what the moment is! ^_^

I hope it's not about Jenova, though. How goofy would it be to have a song about Jenova? :lmao:

It doesn't make sense for Tifa to be a calling. So I think that it'll have to be Aerith, especially if it's for an "important scene" as Clorith has shown. We've seen so far that Aerith is the one who can reach Cloud and motivate him, so I find "Calling" to be a fitting name for their relationship. Oh, but I'd love to have lyrics before making any sweeping judgements.

Those are my thoughts as well, Wingless! I think we like jumping to conclusions very much. :cleris:

I wasn't suggesting that it would be about Jenova. I was speculating about who could be calling to Cloud. Since Jenova is able to manipulate Cloud through his Jenova cells, then she could be calling him to the Reunion. In that case, the song would probably depict the internal struggle within Cloud while he tries to fight Jenova's effect.

But I do agree... I think it's much more likely that "Calling" would be referring to a scene with Aerith than with Tifa. And according to the passage Clorith found, it's an important scene! :fangirl:

Thank you for the info and the links :)

I like the music, although we can hear only the first seconds :P ... Mmm, and I think I find it a little "strange" for AC ^^u

And it is for an important scene?? Yay, thnk you for the info, Clorith! :fangirl:

I think it will be for a "happy" or "peaceful" moment. I can´t see this song with a sad or a scaring scene ^^U

Clorith - August 29, 2005 02:05 PM (GMT)
Oh, my friend's translation. This should be slightly more accurate:

"In this work, in the very important 1st scene that tells, without words, of my message and the lead, Cloud's, feelings. I hope viewers can feel the pull of the song, "Calling", that is pivotal in the completion (making sure that it is a complete work) of the work. (As in, it's the song that makes the scene complete.)"

Hope that makes it a little clearer. My friend said it's a very complicated, run-on sentence. Looks like we get to hear it in the opening. :)

That's true, Aly, I didn't even think of it in a literal context. But I really think it's probably in the metaphorical, since it was written by someone who had no contact with Final Fantasy VII. So I agree that Aerith seems the most logical answer because it is probably for one certain romantic scene...

You did too? I thought it was a really weird change of instruments in comparison to what we've seen so far. But it could turn out very nicely. ^_^

But of course, Clorith! :lmao: Jumping to conclusions is so very fun! But I'm not squeeing over this one until I read the lyrics, just to make sure it's not something silly like a call to defeat evil or something. :P

Oh, Clorith, thank you so much for the better translation. :huggle: That makes me even more excited!

~Fury Brand~ - August 29, 2005 02:10 PM (GMT)
Me too Clorith :lmao: I've been searching with no luck either, all I can find is something called Calling by B'Z :o :lmao:

Hmmm ... didn't Cloud say he heard Aerith calling in FFVII? Something about he could hear calling from inside his soul or something  In the Ancient City

Of course there's also the calling connections in the lifestream events with Tifa to think about as well ... something about Tifa calling Cloud's name but wasn't Cloud not sure it was her?

Not sure if that means anything or not to Advent Children either of the events I posted about but who knows :) We'll know soon, the movie's so close :fangirl:

Anastar - August 29, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
The important first scene? *wonders what it is*

That reminds me... has everyone read the Message from Nomura? He said something to the effect that the OVA should be watched before watching AC, because there would be important clues in it that would help you better understand the movie.

I wonder if we can bribe Shady or Wilhelm into finding the lyrics and translating them for us?

Hmmm... a romantic scene? The important first scene of the movie is romantic? I sorta doubt it.

Wingless - August 29, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
Lol, Aly, I wrote that before I read Clorith's second message! I figured it would be an ending song before she wrote that for us, and forgot to reread my post. Sumimasen.

We should bribe them into translating for us, because I really want to read them.

I can't really make a connection to Tifa, though... It's not like Cloud's drowning in the Lifestream in the opening of the movie...

The only thing I can think of remotely related to Tifa is that Cloud is lamenting that she keeps calling him on his phone. :lmao: So that's why he listens to her voicemail. Everything makes perfect sense now.

Yep. Cloud heard Aerith calling to him while they were trying to find her in the Forgotten City.

It's different in different versions of the Highwind scene. He can recognize Tifa's voice in the Lifestream, but he can also not recognize her voice. When he doesn't recognize her voice, he seems to think it was someone else.

Awww, that'd make the song sad, though. And it certainly has an uplifting beat, from the ten seconds I heard of it. Lol. So it has to be Cloud happy that he's gotten away from her calling.

Right. And even when he recognizes it, it's rather hazy, as though he's still unsure of himself. "Then, it was Tifa's voice". As though there was another voice he had heard. He hears Aerith's voice much more strongly, I think. He's absolutely certain it's her, no matter how you play the game. I think that lends more credence to her being the calling.

But then, calling can have several definitions, so we need to work on that bribery!

Yeah, let's bribe Nomura! The song writer as well!!

It could be the call of the Planet?
It could be Cloud's true calling to fight and save the world!
It could be Reno calling Tifa... (and the fangirl can dream :lmao:)

I want lyrics!!!!!!

Himuro's homepage is: http://www.himuro.com/jpn/. :gift: There is an article on there about AC. I translated it on Babel Fish and this was the only thing of interest:

Final Fantasy VII the continuation which becomes complete draws 2 years later, all compilation the ƒnƒCƒNƒIƒŠ tea the image work which was made with CG. The appointment of latest "CALLING" came to the point of with actualizing by the demand whose is strong from Tetuya Nomura which is the director. Please check details, with the official sight.

So, Nomura was pretty adamant about using this song. Interesting...

Himuro does have an English version of his page, but there wasn't anything on it about AC... <_< I am checking for lyrics right now...

Edit: He doesn't have lyrics on his page...

I did find lyrics to "Diamond Dust", though, if anyone is curious. It is a lovely song...

Making your heart cry again tonight
The angels are testing us
Is my love like sparkling glass?
Or like an ash-covered diamond?

The setting sun will someday
Flush out the answer

Right now I'm lovin' you...
That love for you is my living, is my shining
Always lovin' you...
While melting your frozen loneliness with a kiss...

On the night when the moon of loneliness is full
Let's embrace within my coat
Because people aren't strong enough to tame
The rampant pain in their hearts

It's alright if you turn to me
With your tear soaked eyes

Yes, I'm lovin' you
No matter how much it's hurt, this love is a diamond
Always lovin' you
Though I still can't erase the loneliness falling on you

With the fragments of our love
I'm sure we'll fill in the puzzle of the map to paradise

Right now I'm lovin' you...
That love for you is my living, is my shining
Always lovin' you...
While melting your frozen loneliness with a kiss...

It sounds like Aerith talking to Cloud... :cleris:

wilhelm - August 29, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
I think that's just "1 scene" (as in a single scene which can be anywhere in the film) rather than the first scene at the start of the film.

QUOTE (Anastar @ Aug 29 2005, 07:13 AM)
I think it's more likely that "Calling" would have to do with Aerith's spirit calling to Cloud than anything Tifa could do.

To me it sounds like it would fit better overall with Cloud alone than any relationship, personally. (Which is what Nomura comments about, it fitting with Cloud's mentality and not anything romantic.) I don't know what inspired the title and don't really see much about a 'calling' in the lyric, but maybe it'll hit me one day ^^;

That's fine. :) We were just saying that IF it had to do with anything romantic, then it was more likely to involve Aerith than Tifa. I'm fine with it having to do with Cloud's mentality.

Speaking of which, I noticed this while looking for the lyrics. Another song with the name of "Calling" by B'z is from a drama by the name of "Glass Mask". http://www.geocities.com/ojochan/viva.html

I'm not sure whether that would have anything to do with the AC image song, but I thought it was interesting. "Glass Mask" does seem to fit Cloud's mentality.

By the way, Wilhelm... do you have any idea where we can find the lyrics to "Calling"?

Kaldea - August 30, 2005 01:14 AM (GMT)
It's official. I'm addicted to this song.

Cloudsgirl - August 30, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
It's very spiritual, I love it, I think it fits perfectly.

Clorith - August 30, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)
Oh! So it's for 1 scene!? That's great to know! It's funny that 2 of my friends translated it as first scene, though... *scratches head*

LOL, this song sounds a little too happy. ^^;;;

Edit:

Okay, I think I caught, with my very limited Japanese, inochi=life, kaze=wind, matte=wait, itsumo=forever, kanashimi=sad, unmei=fate, and "romantist (?!)".

And my friend caught:
QUOTE
2nd line: 'inochi wa shinu toki' - when your life is about to end
'kotae wa.. kaze no naka' - the answer is in the wind

"doredake no inochi nakushita toki" - when you don't know how many lives are lost

NAKUSU has 2 meanings. One means (naku)‚"death", the other one is "lose", either of which means to die.

:fangirl:

Clorith's friends have been doing a translation of the lyrics to "Calling". This probably isn't 100% accurate, but it certainly gives a better idea of what the song is about. Thank you to Clorith's friends! :huggle:

Here's what we have so far:

Calling

inochi wa shinu toki
when your life is about to end

kotae wa.. kaze no naka
the answer is in the wind

doredake no inochi nakushita toki
when you don't know how many lives are lost

nemurenai yoru....
a night when i cannot sleep(?)

itsuka dareka ga ittetayou
some time [someday(?)], as when someone is alive

ni kotae ha kaze no naka
the answer is in the wind

nigiri shimeru sono te de
with the hand that grasps tight

dore no you no kurushimi ni taetara (?)
no matter how much sadness endured

egao ha jiyou ni naru no ka
will the smiling face become free

umme ha kitto kawaru toki wo matte iru no
fate is definately waiting for the time to change

chippoke na ai wo sasayaka...
whisper small/stingy love

kanashimi ha istumo dakareru/takareru wo matteiru no
sadness is always waiting to be hugged

Romantics no hito tachi
People who are "romantics"

Clorith - August 30, 2005 03:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks for compiling, Aly!! :huggle: Don't blame me if they're wrong! At the very least, the key words should be there! Like "hand" and "grasp", can't go too far wrong in terms of what that should be hinting at! :cleris:

Off I go to live under my rock! Cleris love to everyone!! See ya soon!!! :huggle: :cleris:

Wingless - August 30, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
OMG, the lyrics are beautiful! :huggle: Clorith, your friends are amazing. Thank them for all of us, because we really appreciate all they do for us. ^_^

I think they still hint at Coud's love for Aerith. How beautiful. ^_^ They also hint at Cloud's striving to overcome his failure to find happiness. I think we have a winner with these lyrics. :woot:

And it is only for one scene? So that means that it could be for the ending scene, and not the beginning? Because it seems to peppy for an opening song; it's much more like an ending song. Ah, I'm so excited now, thank you so much, Clorith and Aly! ^_^
