...Someone tell me this is a joke.

i pRomiSe** - August 25, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
Ummmm... Can't say it is, can't say it isn't...

Schala - August 25, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
Not again... I hope it isn't really getting pushed back any further, because at this rate, I'll never get to see AC. :(

Dammit, this just ruined my mood. <_<

It ruined mine's too... I told my brother over e-mail that it'd be out when he comes home for his two week visit... And now, it probably won't. It'd be out two months after or whatever. <_<; This definitely ruined my mood... -le sigh-

:o ........ Bastages....ALL OF THEM!

Kaldea - August 25, 2005 03:14 AM (GMT)
I think it is complete crap that Japan gets...

1) The earliest release.
2) AAAALLLLL the extras in the ultimate edition.
3) Movie theater viewings.

...while we get what? Extra delays (when we all know that it will be IMPOSSIBLE to stay away from spoilers since it was already released in Japan) and a stupid extra disk with half the extras Japan gets. Complete crap. I am downloading AC and the anime as soon as they get online, I swear.

Schala - August 25, 2005 03:18 AM (GMT)
Square better not make such a huge mistake in releasing the English version so much later than the Japan one. I won't believe it!

i pRomiSe** - August 25, 2005 03:31 AM (GMT)
...I don't know what to say. :mellow: Schala and Jenova mostly summed up why it's stupid that USA gets delayed. But then again, my brain's not working right now. >_<;

Real_Emotion - August 25, 2005 03:41 AM (GMT)
It's not fair! Why do we have to wait longer?! Screw the friggin' holiday season- it's too far away dammit!

Kaldea - August 25, 2005 03:43 AM (GMT)
I'd let it slide if it was to add more to the movie or something. But of course not since Japan gets more than we do. They just want to move it to where people spend more money from what it sounds like. New damn low, Square.

fight the power - August 25, 2005 03:47 AM (GMT)
When the fansubs come marching in Sqaure's going to regret this dearly. :P
If there is no delay, EGM is going to be ruined! :D

This is clearly a win-win!

Kaldea - August 25, 2005 03:51 AM (GMT)
It is delayed. My fiance is talking to an admin on the official Dragon Quest site forum and apparently the new date is November 28th. Hopefully THAT will be reliable...

And the english commercial is supposedly fandubbed. That means some random fans did the voices and it isn't official.

Buhon - August 25, 2005 06:52 AM (GMT)
A possible hint that they'll be releasing the PSP version in September, and not release the DVD version until November?

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised...

here

Kaldea - August 25, 2005 07:36 AM (GMT)
Typical. Right as soon as Sony notices that everything PSP is down.

fight the power - August 25, 2005 07:43 AM (GMT)
If they think it'll be more profitable to delay it, then I say us fans ought to show them just how "profitable" it is to toy with us...I say we threaten to hit em where it hurt$!

yin-chan - August 25, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
what on earth...nooo!!! You can't be serious!!!! *dies*
NOOO and I got my hopes so up too!!! Is that source reliable? Did SE say anything about it???

Yukari - August 25, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
Heh, it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't have got it in September anyway since I'm in the UK. So either way, I'd have been waiting longer than that. The only thing that annoys me is that us Europeans get the short straw either way. There are other countries besides the US and Japan, ya know.

Anastar - August 25, 2005 12:00 PM (GMT)
Looks like it's true. It's being reported this morning at several sources. <_<

From 1UP.com:

Contrary to previous reports, the full-length CG motion picture FFVII: Advent Children will not be launching stateside simultaneously with its Japanese counterpart on September 13th. Instead, Sony Pictures plans a U.S. release on both UMD and 2-disc "Special Edition" DVD this "holiday season." What does that mean, exactly? Probably a mid-to-late November release, as the publisher wants to get those lucrative day-after-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" sales.

No official theatrical release is planned, although Square Enix has hinted at the possibility of one-off promotional events in major markets. We'll keep you posted.

Oh, and the 2-disc DVD will feature some trailers, bonus features, and behind-the-scenes stuff, but not that cool 'Last Order' anime short that's included in the ridiculously expensive $300 Japanese limited edition. Sucks to be us!

From GamingHorizon::

Advent Children Delayed

Sony Pictures revealed in this month’s Electronic Gaming Monthly that Final Fantasy: Advent Children will not be released in North America until this holiday season. The movie was expected to be released on September 13 in both Japan and North America but it now appears that the September date only applies to Japan. “Holiday season” likely implies a November release here in North America so we’re in for a bit of a wait.

From Joystiq:

Sorry, Final Fantasy VII fanatics, if you live in the United States you are going to have to wait at least two months after the Japanese get their hands on the FFVII: Advent Children movie. While the land that Sony calls home is getting the movie on September 13th, those who live in North America will not receive their necessary fill of Cloud Strife until sometime during the “holiday season,” meaning after Thanksgiving and before Christmas, most likely. It will be released on UMD and a 2-disc DVD edition – sorry, if you want the super-duper-deluxe-sell-your-grandmother-for-one $300 edition, you’ll have to import it.

All of these websites are getting this from an article in EGM, though... EGM isn't always reliable. For now, it doesn't look good, though.

Clorith - August 25, 2005 12:21 PM (GMT)
Don't worry about it, as long as the official SE site doesn't report it, it's very likely that it's just a rumour. 1-Up and EGM have never been good sources of info when it comes to AC, anyway. Remember them reporting that the release date was set for Valentine's Day and that Kadaj is Sephiroth?

ANGST. - August 25, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they were doing what Sony did by delaying the release of the PSP in Europe: apparently there was such a high demand for it in Japan and the USA that they decided to sate those markets first. In other words, Europe is not as important to game and console manufacturers than Japan and the USA (that's hardly a revelation; we don't even have a release date for Advent Children yet), and I know that Japan is a more important market to developers than the USA is.

Then again, a DVD, even with extras, is much easier to mass-manufacture than a handheld gaming console. If they think that demand would vastly outgrow supply if they released simultaneously in both Japan and the USA then I think they're greatly overestimating it, so they must have another reason. My next guess is that they're attempting still to remind Japan that it is their favourite market, knowing that spitting in the rest of our faces will do nothing to discourage us from throwing our money at them.

On the other hand, if this does turn out just to be rumour (and I'm not hopeful about that -- S-E are turning into a real tease) then I'm content.

yin-chan - August 25, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
Wouldn't it be so much easier if they just added english subtittles to the japanese version and release that in september? they can always release the english dub version later on in novemeber if that's what's causing the delay.

I'm still not believing this rumour yet till I hear anything from SE.. ^^

Yeah... all of these articles are originating from information given by EGM, and - as Clorith said - EGM isn't all that reliable.

Keep your fingers crossed! :gift:

Eurogamer said that it's to be released in Europe by the end of 2005:

A Squenix representative told us that the movie will go on sale - both on DVD and UMD - "by the end of 2005" [in Europe]. That's providing everything goes to plan, apparently, but the representative promised: "We're doing our best to get it out this year."

If there's truly a delay in the US release, though, there will most likely be a further delay in the European release, too. :(

That's true, but it sounds very tentative. Companies often say they intend to release something within a certain year and usually end up releasing after that time. Until there's an official release date, I'm not holding my breath, and, like you said, any delay in the North American release will be reflected by delays in European release.

Kuki Prower - August 25, 2005 03:27 PM (GMT)
This is total crap if its true. AC has already been delayed for over a year as in the very first trailer it said AC would be coming in Summer 2004. I'm in a completely bad mood now after having such a good day.

True, the extra disc for English speakers will only the "Making of AC" and Character Bios probably, while Japan get everything about it. I mean, they also get the game, Last Order and some more merchandise in the Ultimate edition.

But if it is true, it really sucks for Europe. Because I've noticed with games being released in Japan, America and then Europe, its usually six months after the American release that we get it! I had to wait six months to IX, Star Ocean: The Second Story and the Phantasy Star Collection.

FF_Goddess - August 25, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
Dammit... This had better not be true. I am going to wait and see what the official S-E site says. Didn't Nomura himself say that there would be a simultaneous release in Japan and NA?

If this is true, then the LEAST they can do is make the "Ultimate Edition" available over here in the states, not some half-assed edition that sucks compared to what the Japanese get. If they would make the "Ultimate Edition" with all of the same extras available, I honestly wouldn't mind the wait. <_<

Same here, I wish that they would do the same for the European release but I doubt that they would actually do that. I mean, all they have to do is add subtitles to the ultimate edition and change region formats for the extras.

Anastar - August 25, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
RPGamer is also saying that the release date has been delayed, but they cite EGM as their source. If this is a rumor, EGM's really making an ass out of themselves. LOL!

RPGamer is also saying that the Limited Edition for the US won't be the same as the Ultimate Edition for sale in Japan.

Wait to see what SE says... but there's a number of sources reporting the same story. They're all sourced to EGM's October edition, though.

FF_Goddess - August 25, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, EGM is the rag that jumped to the conclusion that Kadaj was Sephiroth, so their reliability is pretty rotten.

Wikipedia is saying:

"An official theatrical release date has been announced for Japan, it should be on September 8, 2005 as a preview event and on September 10, 2005 as the grand public opening. It was to be released in the US on September 14, 2005 and in Japan on September 15, 2005, however it was recently announced that Square Enix was delaying the US release until later in 2005, possibly November to capitalize on the probable post-Thanksgiving sales gains. Release dates for Europe and Australia are still unknown."

Of course, this site is also stating as fact that Aerith is only going to appear in flashbacks and dream sequences and is also claiming that Sephiroth is a mere flashback (which we all know to be false-- you don't do battle with a flashback). And how do they know anything about Aerith's role anyways? Dumbasses... <_<

They are also claiming that WCM is Rufus, which is still unconfirmed.

IGN is still stating that the US release is Sept. 13th. :woot: Let's pray they are right...

Mako Blue Eyes + Pink Ribbon - August 25, 2005 10:37 PM (GMT)
I think it's stupid to only give most of the special features to Japan. We're fans too ya know! <_< I don't think that the delay is a rumor. I went to Gamestop and they changed the release date to Nov. 1. I dunno tho. It just makes me so mad when they change a release date so close to when you thought it would come out.

Clerith-son - August 25, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
For what I can remember, usually the US version comes with more stuff. For example: FFVII (the game) came out with a few more videos than the japanese version (I've heard); the US version of KH, came with new stuff like the battle with Sephiroth at the Closseum, wich the 1st japanese version hadn't. So... AC's US version might come with more stuff than the japanese version (refering to the Limited Edition package).

If not, I'll make good use of the Third World piracy power. That's the price they'll have to pay, for their continious delays.

True, it will be downloaded on the net, fansubs will be up on eBay by then and the script will be up on the net and such. And considering how long they have delayed the release of this film its gonna be hard for English speaking fans to keep away from them. We have already waited enough for AC and it has really angered a lot of fans.

But still, I'm with CG, Aly and FF_G. I'm waiting to see what SE have to say about it.

But I think its really stupid that SE have said that they never confirmed an exact release date for AC in the US. Eh...the official trailer stated at the end "Simutanious Release: USA: 13th September, Japan: 14th September".

fight the power - August 26, 2005 09:57 AM (GMT)
Less than 20 days to go and Square hasn't said a word. If there is indeed a delay, it will be the most unprofessional thing they've ever done, even topping the false advertising caper they pulled when they marketed "Aliens: the Starship Troopers Within" as Final Fantasy so fans would finance Sakaguchi getting his rocks off to pretending to be a director. They've really bitten the hand that feeds them this time...

QUOTE

Who's racist now? Racist as in purporting the stereotype that everyone outside Japan prefers inferior DVD packages? :lmao: Don't you know that only the Japanese have the mental fortitude to handle an anime AND a cg movie in the same package? Everyone else lacks the genes to prevent their heads from exploding from the sheer amplitude of bonus features. It's for your own good!

Anyway, fansubs: Pros, cons, reccomendations for specific groups to watch out for?

From Advent Children.net:

Release Date Rumors

Some sites are reporting that Advent Children's US release date has been pushed back to November. Please note that these are rumors only at this time. Recently when contacting Square-Enix about the release date, we were told that an exact US release date was never announced, but a plan for a release in the same time period, which appears to slightly contradict information released at E3. We will keep you updated of any further official word regarding this.

I also see that Clerith-son linked to a conversation with SE about the release date above. Check that one out, too. <_<

Lynn - August 26, 2005 11:45 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure if AonE is planning to sub AC, although they've done the trailers before... I've had a good run with them through their Naruto subs, though.

The only worry I have about the fansubs (very minor one, mind you) is that the translators might not be familiar with FFVII. Plus, there might be slightly different interpretations of lines between fansub groups that wouldn't occur if SE released their own translations. All very small things that won't stop me from downloading AC when it comes out.

Pros of fansubs? Well, you'll get it earlier, for one. :P Especially if this release date rumour turns out to be true. *crosses fingers and hopes not* And I don't know if SE would do the translations themselves, or if they hire someone else to do it. In the latter's case, fansub translations can sometimes be more accurate because the fans know the characters and background, compared to someone who never played the game.

Knowing that I'll never be able to import AC, and it would take god-knows-how-long to reach Malaysia, I'm already clearing out space in my harddrive and waiting for the torrents. *shrugs*

slowerthanaverage - August 26, 2005 12:39 PM (GMT)
I've always thought DVD version means that there can be both languages aka Jap and English on the same disk, and it would mean simultaneous release O.o But I'm prolly wrong.

Anyway, I'm prolly going to get a friend in Japan to buy and send it over to me *if* there's english subtitles for the initial release.
*dodges tomatoes from angry members*
Ahem, and stop generalising by saying "Japanese are racist" *shakes fist* ^^
Be patient, we've been waiting for years, a couple more months won't hurt ;)
