I tried looking it up on Google, but I find nothing. However, when his name was first released in Japanese, it got translated as "Kaddish", which had a VERY interesting meaning:

According to Jewish beliefs, the Kaddish is a prayer for one's departed which is recited daily during the first year after a person's passing. It has the ability to deliver the soul from punishment and lead it to the Garden of Eden. When the Kaddish is recited yearly in remembrance of the departed, it becomes a time of judgement for the deceased. Charity or good deeds done on behalf of the departed can help him/her pass judgment and be elevated in the Garden of Eden.

About a week after his name was released in Japanese, it was officially Romanized as Kadaj in Famitsu. Is it possible that the meaning of "Kaddish" still applies, since that was the literal translation of the name?

Wow, that DOES fit. Reminds me of the whole Jenova/Sephiroth thing. What a cool name! Although Kadaj does sound better! :lol:

Perhaps Cloud's Girl and Tifa Lockheart's ideas are both right - Kadaj as an instrument for both Jenova/Sephiroth AND Aerith/Cloud (double-meaning/dichotomous catalist)? Hmm, this movie just intrigues me more and more...

Well, we're not sure whether that meaning can actually be still applied, since the name got Romanized in a different way - yet it seems to fit the situation of the movie quite well.

The Kaddish pertains to judgement rather than resurrection, so I'm not sure the meaning is to be taken that way. However, it also pertains to the memory of someone who has died. Remember that Sephiroth said that he wouldn't become a memory, and the FFVII heroes are remembering Aerith with pink ribbons on their arms. The memory of Aerith is also still in Cloud's heart.

I don't see how that's possible, was it a mistranslation?

Kadaj's original Japanese name is 'Kadaji' (that's what the official site states, and it sounds cooler)

If the romanized name was Kaddish, I think that his Japanese name would be 'Kaddishi'
