Title: Chrono Trigger
Description: Your thoughts?

Schala - July 31, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
I've always loved Chrono Trigger (it was the first RPG I played), even though the graphics were somewhat backward by the time I played it. I don't know about the original CT, but mine came with FF4 in Final Fantasy Chronicles. I think the remake was great, esp. with the new anime cut scenes (DBZ style)! Anyway, I was just hoping to see if anyone still plays CT (or Chrono Cross) and enjoys it. Share your fav. parts or characters! I suspect that there'll be a lot of spoilers.

I love Magus!

Anti-R - July 31, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
Because the character designer of CT is the guy from DBZ ^^, hence the resemblence.

CT is a FUN RPG. Especially as soon as you get the Epoch, and go time hopping to fix the past to make changes in the future...

Favorite characters are Crono and Frog.

Favorite ending is the part you meet Square's programmers and staff ^^.

Onigiri - July 31, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
I thought the ending of the remade version was kind of..weird. Though I realized they made it so CC would make more sense. I've never played the remade PSX version though, so I don't know if they still had the multiple ending option.
My favorite ending is actually the 'normal' one (with the ballon, not with epoch still intact). It's cute, with Crono and Marle floating around. ^^

My favorite character is...the Nus!

It actually took me quite a while to figure that out... I always thought that Crono looked so much like Goku and Magus so much like Vegeta, until one day I read the CT credits and found out that Akira Toriyama was the artist!

That's really the best part about CT! One of my fav. parts would have to be when they replace Crono with the clone. Sure, some think it's lame, but I thought it was rather clever... I never did understand the parts where the cat (Crono's) came in.

But really, I love CT's music! Like Frog's theme and Corridors of Time... The ending I liked most was probably the regular ending, with the cutscene at the end! But the last last part where it said that the Masamune was stolen and Guardia fell into dark times, that was sad... I can't believe Crono, Marle and Lucca never got the happy ending they deserved. All in all, CT was an RPG with a real adventuring feel to it and a solid storyline. CC, on the other hand, was rather confusing.

BTW, aren't the Nus like CC's beach bums? "Life begins and ends with Nu... That's what I'll believe for now." :D

"If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to be destroyed, I must simply laugh." - Magus :fangirl:

Anti-R - August 1, 2005 03:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah, well, I am already upset regarding Lucca and her orphanage in CC...

And Robo! T.T

The Nus, love them. They give magic/strength tabs! ^^

I swear CT Surprised me at the ending (I Got the Perfect ending Where I did all the side quests andCrap) Crono and Marle Got married Frog got back to a human Ayla Got marriedto that one other dude........its not like an RPG to have a happy ending unless theres a sequal.....actually that reminds me FF9 had a happy ending too

Anti-R - August 1, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)
Which sorta got busted in Chrono Cross.

Actually, this explains a lot why I never fancied that game.

Onigiri - August 1, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I never really liked the CT PSX ending. :P It was too...'clear'...and happy xD
The part I really liked was when Crono was revived in that mountain...I think that was kind of really the only clue about Crono and Marle if you put her in your team.

About CC though...(for those who have not beat it - spoilers!)

Serge and Kid are supose to be married in the end? (with the picture?) But isn't Serge 'Janus' (Magus) and Kid is Schala (reincarnation? ..I forgot..)...so...they are brother and sister....o_O

Wasn't that just a rumor? It actually doesn't make much sense for Serge to be Magus. I thought that if anyone was Janus, it would be Guile, that masked magician guy. Besides, I was pretty sure Serge got together with his childhood sweetheart Leena (hated it!), they didn't really showed that though. I never figured out who the guy in the photo was... :( To think, Schala's still looking for Serge... Pretty sad.

I was so glad to see CT's 'happy ending' (except they missed out Magus!), but that had to be ruined by CC telling the heroes' sad fates. Darn Porre for invading! No, actually, I like Norris too... Even if he IS from that bad place. CT was much better than CC, I'm sad to say. I wonder if there'll be another Chrono game...

Really? I haven't played too many, but I thought endings were generally happy, like FF4's ending. In fact, I was rather shocked at FF7 for leaving everything so open-ended!

Anti-R - August 2, 2005 09:30 AM (GMT)
Nah, can't be Serge. When Kid got poisoned I didn't went off to get the cure, because I want to get Glenn instead of the Fish boy whathisname. There's another person who gets the medicine for her, so that busted Serge is Magus thing.

Spoilers!

I think it was mentioned in one of the endings that Norris was the one who got the medicine. I'm not too sure though. Anyway, Serge comes across as a really... bland (simple village kid, gets bullied by his girlfriend) character, nothing like Magus at all.

Anti-R - August 2, 2005 05:40 PM (GMT)
Well, Serge isn't Crono (who, I think next to McDohl, though he does say a line and two, are the best nonverbal main characters in an RPG), that's for sure. ^^ But there are players here in the board who does love Serge, so... to each his own, I guess.

I remember I had a fight with an old friend regarding if Crono had feelings for Marle. I said "hell, yes! It's pretty obvious!" Be it known that was SNES... yeah, ancient...

Difficult to defend, that Crono x Marle thing. Considering Crono doesn't even talk, and you only get hints from Marle's side she's interested... so whenever a person from the LTD puts up that crap of Cloud and Aerith not having enough interaction in Disk 1, I remember CT.

Which is good to see him and Marle getting married in the PSX version. ^^ FINALLY it's canon! :D

Onigiri - August 2, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
Hey, true! It never was really clear about the whole Crono x Marle thing, but I guess that ending made it a official. As for the Serge/Magus thing, I think it was said in that letter Luca(?) wrote, how she left a message to Serge, calling him Janus at the last line or something...

Anti-R - August 3, 2005 02:15 AM (GMT)
Lucca was dead in CC, right? So she must have assumed Janus would come for Kid (which made sense, as she concerns Schala), not Serge.

Kusari Yarou - August 4, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
I am kind of disturbed by Serge=Janus and Kid=Schala because Janus and Schala were brother and sister
I'm not too fond of CC either, why the heck did they ruin CT's happy ending?! I prefer to fool myself into thinking that everyone lived Happily Ever After :D

Anti-R - August 4, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
Well, anyone who play CC refresh my memory? I still think there's no way in heck that Janus=Serge because you actually get to see Serge's past with his dad. There's no way he can be Magus...

Actually, I'm hoping SE would pick up the time travelling story again. But it seems the team who made CT are no longer there.

I wish Nomura make CT... somehow.

Kusari Yarou - August 4, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
Nah, I like it the way it is with sprites and the lovely lovely music. Besides they already spiffed it up with anime images...from the guy who made Dragonball too.
Crono looked like Gokou, Lucca looked like Bulma, human!Glenn looked like Vegeta :P

Anti-R - August 4, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
I meant a sequel, actually. ^^

The CT is fine as it is, no doubt about it.

Onigiri - August 4, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
Ah, the whole game's messed! I didn't get how Kid was Schala either (well, I think I just don't remember the explanation). Kid has blond hair while Schala has blue right? And looks younger than how old Schala should be (by that time), etc. So in the same sense, it doesn't make sense Kid is Schala either...? I think its just some weird time warp that somehow brought them together in another form...ok, well, its just something I thought of now, I really didn't get the story back then.

I don't like to think of CC as a sequel, maybe..just another possible 'ending' for CT. :P Anybody remember the ghost of Crono, Marle and Lucca at the beach? What was that all about..were they all dead? (Ok..I forgot everything about CC...even though I recently replayed it )

Anti-R - August 4, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
It was actually disturbing, IMHO. The three ghosts were mad at Serge, I think.

I never did get the blond hair and blue hair thing either. Actually, I don't think there was an explanation in the first place. Schala just mysteriously has blond hair in CC... Maybe it was Lavos radiation? Or maybe they needed a character who didn't look exactly like Schala so it wouldn't be a dead giveaway the moment you meet Kid? That would make some sense. As for Kid looking younger than Schala... Time was constantly getting messed up in the Chrono games anyway. It just so happens that Schala could make a daughter-clone of herself and send her some ten thousand years in time to go rescue Serge from drowning (lucky guy).

The ghosts were strange too. But yeah, as much as I hate to admit it, Crono, Lucca, and Marle are dead in CC (they said something about not being alive in the current world anymore), and the Lucca ghost talked as though she really was, well, Lucca's ghost when she addressed Kid at the beach. The Leene Square part still confuses me though. Just when I thought I had everything in CT figured out, CC comes along and stumps me!

Hmm... I always thought Crono x Marle was obvious, but then, she was always in my party. One thing's pretty certain though, there's no way Serge can be Magus! Other than the letter, there's no indication at all! Plus, the letter never said anything about Serge being Janus, it just said that there was a chance that Janus was already at Kid's side. Nope, if Magus was there undercover, it'll be as Guile, not Serge. But then again, I could very well be wrong...

But but, CC deals with parallel worlds, right? So they may still be alive in the other world...

*covers ears and goes on believing that everybody lived Happily Ever After*

Anti-R - August 7, 2005 07:18 PM (GMT)
I'll just think CC doesn't exist. :P

I know people actually liked the game, I just didn't like the idea the CT gang literally sat on the sidelines and died. It's so... depressing...

But the two worlds were only separated because of Schala's interference. The original unchanged world would have Serge dead, but she tampered with time and saved him from drowning some years ago, thereby creating a different, parallel world where Serge lived (Home World). So seeing as Crono and the others supposedly died before that incident, they would still be dead in both worlds.

At the end of CC, I think the worlds are rejoined or something though... But seeing as there're multiple worlds (probably because of Crono's time-traveling) like the one in the Dead Sea, maybe the CT group are still alive somewhere else? It is depressing though. I kinda liked CC's story. Confusing, but quite interesting after finally understanding it better.

One of my favorite games! I bought it back when the SNES was the latest and greatest console and it is still one of my top games to this day. I loved the story and characters and the battle system was so fun! Good times.
