Title: Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince
Anti-R - July 17, 2005 06:48 AM (GMT)
We got it this morning... and wow, most of my predictions came true! 0.o;;
SPOILER!!!
Harry and Ginny, yes, the ship has sailed. After so many battles between fans, Rowling had made her choice on the matter. So is Ron and Hermione. And Dumbledore finally croaked. I always knew he'll meet his demise in this installment
I was surprised who the half-blood prince was... and Draco's character. For once in my life, I actually felt sorry for that jackass.
Am now sending my thoughts to SE for a powerful CxA scene. XD
SweetJanie - July 17, 2005 02:25 PM (GMT)
OMG, really?! :woot: ...need..book.... *steals moms money and goes buy the book*
UsagiMamoru - July 17, 2005 05:27 PM (GMT)
Hermione is my favorite character! I'm so glad she ended up with someone. I supported all Hermione pairings.
Lizzi - July 17, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Even though I hate Ron/Hermione with a passion, I'm just hoping it doesn't last. Harry/Ginny I can sort of live with...but I'm still a Harry/Hermione kind of girl.
Aw well. There's always fanfiction!
UsagiMamoru - July 17, 2005 08:27 PM (GMT)
I love all of the pairings with Hermione. Hermione is my favorite character and all pairings are good.
Harry/Hermione, Ron/Hermione, Draco/Hermione. I like all the pairings with Hermione.
Seii Monogatari - July 18, 2005 02:02 AM (GMT)
~*~*~*~ SPOILERS ~*~*~*~
Don't read this unless you've read the book, because most of it won't make sense anyway. ;)
I was fascinated by the Pensieve, and all the background on Voldemort. He was a screwed up kid. It seems he was always bad, really. I figured Merope was his mom fairly quickly, seeing as they were the last of Slytherin's descendents and they lived so near the Riddles.
I experienced the sensation of piecing things together before they happened quite frequently. Once the issue happened with Katie Bell and the necklace, I knew the one to die would be Snape or Dumbledore. I was positive the necklace and mead were for him, and knew that was Draco's task. I also know that Draco wouldn't have killed Dumbledore, so either Snape would kill Dumbledore, or Snape would break his vow and die himself.
I also figured out, once Slug--(thorn?more?forgot...) started talking about Horcruxes that the diary had been one, as well as the ring.
And Seii was right about Snape being the Half-Blood Prince!! ^o^
And who is this R.A.B. guy? And what about the other Horcruxes? Harry's not going back to Hogwarts?
Yay for the HarryxGinny, but now they've split. It wasn't a "break up" split up, where they are angry and it wouldn't work out, so I don't feel really bad or anything, but still ...
For other romance, I really like the LupinxTonks thing, they're favorite characters of mine. And Tonks will be happy again! ^_^
I liked the FleurxBill bit too. Fleur's a bit full of herself, but it's sweet and she obviously loves Bill. I can't quite remember how it goes, "I am beautiful enough for the both of us. These scars prove my husband is brave!" And Bill's new love for rare steaks!! I was glad Mrs. Weasly finally warmed up to Fleur. I liked Fleur back in GoF, she was interesting and I'm glad she didn't just fade away into HP history. :)
RonxHermione = knew it was gonna happen, all the signs were there. I could've done without all the LavenderxRon-ness, even though he was obviously just using. Bad Ron. *rubs his nose in it* :P
I thought the bit in the beginning with Narcissa and Bellatrix going to see Snape was interesting, as I'd never seen the sisters together before. I like reading about Bella, because, although she always has a dark aura in my mind after Sirius's death, I find her character very interesting. She's really blunt, and devoted to Voldemort. While that's not necessarily the most admirable of qualities, if you think about it she's really just an extreme version of Beatrix from FFIX. Save the Queen, save the Dark Lord, tomato tomato. Even their names, it's an obvious clue!! Then Narcissa is mysterious, I wanted more info on her since Book IV.
I've been waiting for Harry to visit Godric's Hollow since very early in the series, I'm glad he'll finally be doing so in Book VII. I also hope he'll return to the Dept. of Mysteries to have another look at that strange veil.
My main dissapointments were the length of the book (too short, nyo!! v_v), and lack of Sirius-ness. Apart from that I enjoyed it very much. I'm sure I'll have more to say later, but this is all I can think of at the moment.
~*~*~*~ END OF SPOILERS ~*~*~*~
Schala - July 18, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
Too bad, I'd have liked Harry with Hermione and not Ginny. Ron x Hemione just makes me sick for some strange reason. I wonder what happens to Malfoy? And I wish I knew who R.A.B is, as well as Snape's (probably tragic) story. Anyway, I think this book was too dark for my liking... Was it just me or were the inferi parts creepy?
All in all, I felt that J.K. Rowling didn't do quite as good a job on this book as she did in the first four. For one thing, the mystery part was certainly lacking. But I suppose no matter how unsatisfying, there's still the last book to hope for.
Oddishness - July 18, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
I loved book VI very much!!! I still don't like HarryxGinny, but TonksxRemus totally made up for it. I am very intrigued by Malfoy's character, I hope that he doesn't go evil!
I hate Snape very much now!! I say, Snape must be a rabid Cloti!!
...It was interesting that Wormtail was still alive, though... I thought Voldemort would have killed him.
On the R.A.B. note, I heard someone mention that Regulus Black may have the initials R.A.B...
I MISS SIRIUS!!!!!!!!!!! I feel your pain, Seii!
[random] I hope Harry gets to keep Fawkes... that would be cool... :P [/random]
Anti-R - July 18, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
The Harry Ginny split was jokingly called as the "Noble Spider-man ending", complete with a funeral scene.
I never said this before, but my sister was a staunch fan of this pairing, though I'm not really into that (which is strange, as I'm Cloud and Aerith, but she's not). And I can honestly say there were huge hints of the pairing... that was used a lot in debates. Anyways, it's a strange sensation, feeling right on the whole thing...
Seii Monogatari - July 18, 2005 09:17 AM (GMT)
Regulus Black? He doesn't really seem like the type to have gotten through all that though ... maybe ...
I can't believe who got killed off. I still, for whatever reason, think the Half-Blood Prince is a good guy. Maybe he really was just an evil, manipulating jackarse, but I can't shake the feeling ...
And Harry Potter without *SPOILER*Dumbledore?*SPOILER*
It'll never be the same.
Anti-R - July 18, 2005 10:19 AM (GMT)
Actually, in a hero's journey, the main character should always lose his mentor figure.
I was expecting Dumbledore to die for quite some time. So that Harry can do his own decisions, without the old man over his shoulder reassuring him he did the right thing. For once, Harry would have to stand on his own two feet and have to trust his own judgement.
That's how I think, anyway.
Seii Monogatari - July 19, 2005 06:41 AM (GMT)
Of course, it'll develop Harry's character, I understand why ...
... but I'll miss Dumbledore.
Difinity - July 19, 2005 09:29 AM (GMT)
*SPOILERS!!*
I had a feeling that poor, sweet Dumbledore was going to kick the bucket, but I didn't think that it would REALLY happen!!! I mean, Harry Potter without Dumbledore?? It's just so...surreal!!
HarryxGinny: What's even more surreal to me is that HarryxGinny actually happened!! I've been a fan of that pairing since the Chamber of Secrets and when I saw what was going on between them (and confirmed a million times that I was NOT dreaming), I cheered and whooped so loud I think my entire neighborhood heard me! I've never seen any of the debates against HarryxGinny; I just thought it was really cute and BOOM!! There it was! Yes, they split up, but I personally think that they'll end up together at the end of book 7; after all, Harry broke it off with Ginny because he himself said that he cared about her and didn't want her hurt/killed by Voldemort; An act of love, I'd say. They understand each other very well, so Ginny didn't put up a fight about it and she said it herself that she still hadn't given up on him, even after she dated other guys. So these two still care for each other, but because of Voldemort, can't be together...at least not yet.
RonxHermione: OBVIOUS, but hilariously cute nonetheless!!
LupinxTonks: Now that was really cute!
Anyhoo~!! I agree with Seii about the Pensieve, though. When I came to those chapters, I was really surprised at how involved Voldemort's backstory was and suddenly I saw that from the very beginning that boy wasn't right! I felt sorry for his mother, seeing as how her father and brother were so cruel to her and the poor thing admiring Tom from afar...how sad!!
Snape: You know, I REALLY hoped that he would turn around and not be who I thought he was, but unfortunately I was wrong. -____- I think my heart literally broke when he killed Dumbledore (that and when Harry and Ginny split) and I really couldn't help but feel and immense amount of fury at that guy!
And I actually felt sorry for Malfoy, especially during the scene where he was found sobbing in the restroom with Myrtle. Sorta made me want to pat him on the back or something to get the poor kid to stop crying. :(
*END SPOILERS*
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this book; it's probably my favorite one so far, and now I can't wait for the last book to come out! Till then, ah well...Advent Children is almost out, so that's something to look forward to!!!
Sefie - July 19, 2005 04:07 PM (GMT)
Sp.....spoilers....
*WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAILS* NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NOT DUMBLEDORE! NO NO NONO NO!!!!*stomps around* I cried myself to sleep last night over it! My goodness but that was an emotional ending....*sniffle...sniff sniff* Harry Potter without Dumbledore....
I'm with Seii, I still believe Snape to be a good guy for some reason. Perhaps what Dumbledore was pleading with Snape to do was to kill him so that Harry would be safe. Harry always seemed to be Dumbledore's first priority, even over himself.
And I felt sorry for poor Draco too, never have before. Narcissa too
And couples.......*GRINS* SEFIE WAS RIGHT! SEFIE WAS RIGHT! RonxHermione!(Even though he nearly lost Favorite Character status with me over the whole Lavender thing <_< )
HarryxGinny! They're so perfect for each other!
TonkxLupin!...er...didn't really see this one coming, but I can enjoy it!
And I loved the BillxFluer stuff at the end, so glad Mrs. Weasly's warmed up to her!
I loved all the romancy parts in the book, but with the ending...I don't know if I can ever re-read it
And zombies in Harry Potter?
/spoilers

I immediately started thinking "OMG SPIDERMAN!!" when I got to that part. And not only did it have a funeral scene, but the chick was a redhead! xD

I have a theory that Dumbledore was already dying. He was begging Snape to end his pain. I don't think Snape had foreseen he'd be the one killing him, since he was under the Unbreakeable Vow for Draco's sake.
And maybe Dumbledore wouldn't be that "gone" as Sirius did. There's still his brother to consider, and Dubledore's own painting.
PS
My sis is checking out the Harry/Hermione outrage though. Said that they were being OOC and that. There were sadness for the fans of the slash pairings too...
Which is bull, since this is Rowling, so any character she made them do is in character. :/ And sheesh, it's her BOOK let her do what she wants and not the readers.
>.<

Here here Anti-R! JK can't make HER OWN characters out of character. Personally, I couldn't be happier! So much romance! I was just hoping Ron and Hermione would be together by the end of the book*Sulks*
SweetJanie - July 20, 2005 07:26 PM (GMT)
So, has anyone started to make fanarts? xD I did!! And I luuub my Ginny anime version!! Wanna shee? Go here:

I did I did!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v53/lildevillizzi/145.pngI just love Luna to pieces, and I hope she has a bigger part in the 7th book. And did anyone else get a kick out of her quidditch commentary? xD
Sefie - July 20, 2005 11:26 PM (GMT)
Her commentating was the best part!(JKR thinks so too!)
Aww, I feel a little sad for the HxH shippers
JKR InterviewJKR says RonxHermione is definatly definate!*Dances*
And I thought it was interesting how he had to "grow up" to be worthy of Hermione. Always interesting to see how many fans turn out to be right
Seii Monogatari - July 21, 2005 01:46 AM (GMT)
Thanks for posting the interview, Sefie!! ^_^

v__v I'm not a Ron-hating delusional idiot. Actually, I like "Won-Won." Just, you know, not with Hermione.
I'd go into a TON of detail on the subject, but I really don't want to. By the way, I highly recommend reading
this if you ship ANYTHING in HP-ism. ^_^
Anti-R - July 21, 2005 02:35 AM (GMT)
I love Ron and Hermione ever since Prisoner of Azkaban, ever since their spat with Scabbers and Crookshanks... they were showing the typical love hate thing ala Han and Leia from Star Wars.
I love how Hermione attacked Ron with canaries though, LOL.
Yeah. Luna is a great character. I'm so happy Jo love her too. I was slightly disappointed both her and Neville weren't active in HBP but hopefully book 7 will fix that.

And I like Harry, just not with Hermione :D I was a little surprised that Jo went along with the "Delusional" thing though. Perhaps I didn't read it carefully enough

No, the best part of the whole book was...
"There's no need to call me 'sir,' Professor."
:lmao:
Sefie - July 22, 2005 12:02 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah! Okay, so that was the OTHER best part! :lmao:
Schala - July 22, 2005 02:54 AM (GMT)
Aww... It hurt to hear the words from the author herself... All right, I dislike Ron, but I'm NOT delusional! Anyway, it was pretty obvious it would be Ron x Hermione, but I always hoped for otherwise regardless of the countless hints. The letter to all shippers did help a lot though. Divorce rate IS high nowadays...

Clerith-son - July 22, 2005 06:33 AM (GMT)
I saw RonxHermione coming all the way. Even if Ron makes me laugh, a lot, I don't like him too much, I really don't know why. I really don't like RonxHermione, they are just, WAY TOO DIFFERENT, to compliment each other, or something like that. Honestly, I wouldn't like Harry to end up with Hermione either. But that's what Miss. Rowling decided, and it mght be interesting to see/read, how she developed the couple. But I really want their relationship to follow the same path of HarryxCho. I want Hermione not to end up with anyone.
My fav character of the Harry Potter books, is, was, and will always be Hermione Granger. She's just, THE BEST. I new that Harry Potter will just consist of 7 books, but I'd like Miss. Rowling to write a new story involving Hermione, probably in College, with new magic spells, and obviously more DARKNESS. But I think that won't happen, though.
Sefie - July 23, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
I did some thinking today, and I came to an interesting conclusion. HarryxGinny is the most realistic relationship in the book
Think about it, Harry's friends with her for awhile, realizes he has a crush on her, and towards the end of the school year asks her out. Hermione and Ron spend YEARS dancing around their feelings, and yet still feel the same for each other. Harry holds out a crush on Cho for 3 years, even while she's dating another guy. And so on and so forth.
Harry and Ginny just seems so much more normal. They hook up, rather than angsting for years and suffering from unrequited love. I think folks were just shocked by their getting together because all the other main characters haven't really made any moves toward relationships
Anti-R - July 23, 2005 03:16 AM (GMT)
Actually, I love how Harry save Ginny in CoS... he's this young knight wielding a sword fighting a basilisk to save a sleeping princess.
Very fairytalelike, I'm amazed not everyone assumed they were meant to be...
Lizzi - July 23, 2005 03:52 AM (GMT)
I dunno...he didn't really notice Ginny much in PoA, GoF, OR OotP. Then Harry comes out with this "OMG I LUV GINNEH!!" deal. Seemed a bit rushed and out-of-flippin-nowhere if you ask me. *shrug*
Anti-R - July 23, 2005 09:01 AM (GMT)
Well in PoA, Ginny was acting embarrassed with Harry. Understandable since he found out she had a crush on him. It didn't help that around that time he has his feelings for Cho.
In GoF, well, Harry still has a thing for Cho... but around that time I thought his feelings for Hermione shed a lot of light that he wasn't interested in her that way (and I think Hermione, too), considering she was dating another guy (Ron goes mental here, something Harry never did), and that this nasty rumor by Rita Seeker regarding them.
OoTP tackles that disastrous Harry and Cho relationship, where he had this nasty realization that Cho may not exactly the girl he imagined to be with... and here you could see Ginny being natural to him. She grew up, so to speak, and managed to cheer him up whenever he's depressed.
And besides, Harry spend a lot of holidays with the Weasleys throughout the years. You'd think there'd be a lot of interaction between the two. And I think Ginny being part of his Quidditch team was also a factor, considering he was attracted to Cho in the same way as well...
SweetJanie - July 23, 2005 11:44 AM (GMT)
He sure has a thing for girls in brooms!! xD
...That...sounded weird...
Anti-R - July 23, 2005 11:51 AM (GMT)
Yeah, witches on brooms, Harry likes those types, apparently :D.
Harry loves Quidditch a lot. It helped that Ginny shared that liking to that sport as well.
SweetJanie - July 23, 2005 11:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah... I was a bit shocked with Ginny's change in OoTP. She's was so mature! And when she got in the team I was so happy to see more of her!!
Even though I'm a Luna supporter (^^') I was so happy when I heard Harry and Ginny would hook up!! Now I'm a full Ginny supporter, even though I was very happy when Harry asked Luna to go to the party with him! :fangirl: It just can't be helped.
Anti-R - July 23, 2005 12:00 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, Luna's also my favorite character! And I too, squeed when Harry went out on a date with her as a friend. XD Her small talk with the Divination teacher in the party is hillarious.
Sefie - July 23, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
Lizzi, a teenager doesn't have to be in love with someone for YEARS before making a move. Harry developed a crush on her, and then acted on that crush within a few months. Nothing unrealistic about that at ALL. In fact, if you look at real highschoolers, it's the most normal relationship in all the books.
Real romance doesn't require years of build up to the relationship
Rikkulicious - July 23, 2005 05:32 PM (GMT)
Ah, finished it last night!! ^_^ ... ...
...
 That ending was so sad, it was different compared to the previous endings, before I always had a sense of completion but when this one ended there was just so much suspense that I felt almost like it hadn't really ended yet. And my favorite character is Luna. I was kind of suprised about the couplings, though, it was kind of like all of the sudden Harry realized "OMGILUVGINNYWTF," to me it was just a bit sudden, out of nowhere. o_0 I kinda saw the RonXHermione thing from a mile away, though, to me it was kind of like all of the sudden EVERY SINGLE character fell in love. :o I'm not a giant rabid Harry Potter fan though, so I've never had any favorite couplings, and over other couples I think the ones which were chosen fit the best. ^_^
