EnglishRose - July 15, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
I didnt see a topic on this, and I wanted to see other people's thoughts on this. I actually think it's Rufus. Who else would it be?? Anywayz, please tell me if I'm right or wrong.

Although most likely your right,I am beginnig to think thats it is Sephiroth,
remember the powerful attack used by Cloud, well even though Sephiroth lived,
I think he would be temporarly paralized.
Kaldea - July 15, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
You can kinda see part of his head in a screen and the guy has short hair. That and with everyone calling him "Mr. President", it's a safe bet that it's Rufus.
And wasn't there a cast list that had Rufus's name on it somewhere? I forgot.

But why would Reno and Rude be protecting him then?
I think that it's Rufus...

I never thought calling him "Mr. President" meant that it was Rufus. No matter who had taken over Shinra, they'd still be calling that person "Mr. President".

Yes, there was.... however, that was a translated cast list, and I've never heard it verified that it actually said "Rufus" in Japanese. I've always wondered if that list actually said, "WCM" in Japanese and someone just put the name "Rufus" in.
There was a long discussion about this at ACF, and it was decided that the WCM couldn't be anyone but Rufus. I think the most convincing piece of evidence is that the WCM's left arm is missing, and Rufus's left arm was facing the explosion from Diamond Weapon.
Question is: do we know for certain that the WCM has Geostigma? If it is Rufus, he may be covered in a blanket just to cover the burn scars from the explosion rather than because of Geostigma. He may have been placed at the Healin' Lodge because it has the most up-to-date medical facilities and to be out of the public eye rather than because of Geostigma, too. Many people are assuming that he has Geostigma, but I haven't heard it confirmed yet.

The WCM has Geostigma? To be honest, that thought never really crossed my mind.
Like most people, I think the WCM is Rufus. So I assumed the purpose of the blanket was to hide any scars or disfigurements Rufus may have gotten from the attack. I agree with Anastar that if the WCM is Rufus, he's in the Healing Lodge for medical treatment for his wounds and to escape from the public.
But, I have a question. If the WCM is Rufus, then why would Kadaj be shown kneeling in front of him- looking like he's blessing his hand or whatever- like it was shown in the first trailer? I've always wondered about that.
EnglishRose - July 16, 2005 05:11 PM (GMT)
yeah, i think that too. i thought he was wearing all those clothes to stop showing his scars.

yeah, ive been discussing that in the ACF. lots of people reckon its because rufus shinra is the only person who has the power to make sephy back. and rufus is going between sides or something...i dont know. its at ACF somewhere though.

For the longest time, I've thought the guy might be Hojo. I'm not so sure anymore though.
Anti-R - July 18, 2005 10:11 AM (GMT)
Wouldn't it be interesting if it's man in the black cloak from FF7 who only looks like Rufus?
Tifa Lockheart - July 18, 2005 10:23 AM (GMT)
I think the WCM is Rufus. If it's not Rufus, shoot meh. :whacko:
Anyway, when the blanket gets flung off from the WCM in one of the trailers, you can see blonde hair.
And notice Rufus's resemblance with Cloud Strife in the game? The facial features (minus the eyes) of the WCM is similar to Cloud, even the shape of their faces.
The ShinRa logo is also in the WCM's room. It's on the wall behind the sofa.
The WCM's shoes are brown. Rufus wears brown shoes.
The WCM is clad in white. Even his turtleneck is white. Who else could wear too much white?
Rude and Reno and with him.
When the WCM speaks, he is very formal.
EnglishRose - July 18, 2005 10:27 AM (GMT)
you know, wouldnt it be great if it was someone NOONE woulve thought of? that would be great. SE can surprise you sometimes.
Kaldea - July 18, 2005 10:32 AM (GMT)
Well I hope it is someone that makes sense in that position. I mean if they brought back someone like Johnny and put him there just for the shock factor, I am sure the story concerning him would be crap.
Rufus makes the most sense there. The person is obviously well educated about the current events and I would think Rufus would have to make sure he knew about everything. That and people don't REALLY confirm that Rufus is dead, they just kind of assume it. And Cloud and his party killed Hojo themselves (LOVE using Vincent then) so I doubt it's him with a new hairstyle and color.
He wears white like Rufus, from the little that we have seen of his hair and face it looks like Rufus, to me it's Rufus.
yin-chan - July 18, 2005 01:25 PM (GMT)
Lol it would be hilarious if it was Johnny. Or Don Corneo!! I'm obsessed with that man. :woot:
*ahem*
Anyways, yea all the theory that has been flying around so far seems to point strongest at Rufus - which is interesting. :-)

Many people have been assuming that the WCM has it, but it's largely because of the blanket. They think he's wearing the blanket to cover his disfigurement by Geostigma.
We know that another adult has Geostigma, because someone said this to Cloud in one of the trailers:
Man's voice: "The Reunion, you can feel it too."
You wouldn't be able to feel the Reunion unless you had Geostigma, so another male adult besides Cloud has it. This was an early trailer, so the voices weren't well known yet.

That's a good question. Some people explain it as Kadaj mocking Rufus. However, I can see Kadaj doing that to manipulate Rufus when he first met him. Kadaj could have been acting that way to make Rufus think that Kadaj was wanting to work with him at first. After getting what he wanted from Rufus, then Kadaj would show his true colors.

That's who I thought it was at first, too. It looks like it's Rufus, though. :(
Materia Thief - July 18, 2005 07:54 PM (GMT)
I myself seriously believe it to be Rufus, for both the appearance and how Rude/Reno are "guarding" him.
I think most people believe he has Geostigma considering he's located, from what most people assume to be (I'm not sure if it's confirmed), the "Healing Lodge", which is supposed to have to do with Geostigma.
FF_Goddess - July 19, 2005 12:54 AM (GMT)
Is anyone else here disappointed that the WCM appears to be Rufus? No offense to Rufus fans or anything, but I just think it would be much more interesting if the WCM was Hojo.

It's probably my Rufus x Tifa fangirl-ish-ness, but not at all. I actually find it interesting considering, while we do know that Hojo is pretty much pure evil, Rufus is walking a fine line, communicating to both Kadaj and Cloud. ^_^
But I also think it'd been wonderful if Hojo was underneath as well. I think the only person I refused to have it as was Sephiroth, only because I found it...well, kinda cliche. ^^;
FF_Goddess - July 19, 2005 01:00 AM (GMT)
I still hope Hojo will show up. He was such a psychotic wierdo. Wouldn't it be interesting if he was trying to resurrect his "son", Sephiroth? Or if he turned out to be the driving force behind the SHM? Hojo was a central part of the whole Sephiroth/JENOVA thing, not to mention the whole Vincent/Lucrecia thing.
Tifa Lockheart - July 19, 2005 09:00 AM (GMT)
Hojo will get his limelight in Dirge of Cerberus. This is Rufus's time to shine even for a little bit.
Anyway, I was really thinking "Sephiroth" at first (honestly. even though I'm such a big Rufus fan to the point that you can make me sit in front of you all day and all I'll blab about is Rufus ShinRa and more Rufus ShinRa. :P)
I don't know what other people have against Rufus being alive (although I know he could be so appalling with that attitude of his in the game), but I'm glad nonetheless that it's Rufus instead of Sephiroth or Hojo for the reason that I want to know more about Rufus. Who knows, Advent Children could show its audience that Rufus isn't who we really think he is. ;)

I completely agree. I'd much rather it be Hojo than Rufus. Hojo was behind the creation of Sephiroth, behind the laboratory experiments involving Jenova, the laboratory experiments with Cloud and Zack, and the creation of SOLDIERs. He directly affected the lives of Cloud, Ifalna, Aerith, Red XIII, Vincent, and Lucrecia. I also believe that Hojo is responsible for the creation of the SHM and it's likely that he's responsible for Geostigma, as well. I think he'd have far greater impact on the story than Rufus would.
