Title: Final Fantasy Tactics
Description: Sprites galore!
Kusari Yarou - July 13, 2005 09:45 AM (GMT)
So what did you think of Square’s unique and sprite-ly game?
I thought it was awesome, of course. (Else, I wouldn’t create this thread). I found the battles addictive- I absolutely enjoyed leveling up my characters and discovering their different job abilities. I spent hours and hours just kicking ass on the battle field. And it’s epic story just blew me away! It was like playable history- politics, conspiracies, religion, and the shrouded identity of Ivalice’s true hero…I lapped it all up :P
Am I the only geek who thought that FFT was a masterpiece?^_^
Starlight Night - July 13, 2005 10:34 PM (GMT)
Mind you, I've never played it, but I've heard some good AND bad reviews about it. I want to play it for myself, but sadly, I'm poor and I can't find it anymore. I think I know somewhere where I can get it though *winks* :moogle:
Kusari Yarou - July 14, 2005 02:10 AM (GMT)
It's really an acquired taste...most of those who gave it bad reviews just didn't get into the battle system.
Those who loved it(like me) thoroughly enjoyed the battles and the great story. ^_^
Onigiri - July 15, 2005 06:25 AM (GMT)
I liked the game! But I got stuck one place..saved riiiight before Ramza has to fight one on one with someone and couldn't survive x__x
After, I didnt bother starting it again xD;;
But I'm playing FFTA now! Its really addictive! I love it (more than FFT!)
Bloodbath - July 19, 2005 02:06 PM (GMT)
Yay! FFT! :woot: I beat the game, but not with all of the ultimate weapons. My PS died on me a few days I had finished the ending trial.
I found the battles addicting too! ^_^ But it took about twenty minutes to finish one, because Ramza's level was about one or two levels above everyone elses. :ermm:
Like you, Kusari, I loved the mix of politics and the awesome story. Square really dove deep into this storyline, going through Christian-like beliefs, and the zodiac. I learned so much about the zodiac during this game. ^_^
By the way... what were your likeable job classes?
Kusari Yarou - July 21, 2005 11:00 AM (GMT)
I absolutely loved Lancers. They can inflict much damage and at the same time escape it(by jumping into the air). I also loved Ninjas and Monks...and the combination of Ninja and Monk abilities made Ramza practically invincible! :D
Ah, the story...it was like playable history! :D The concept of the war's 'true hero' being buried in the sands of time was all too real. I'll betcha there are a lot of unsung heroes in our world too.
Any idea on how Ramza survived the explosion on the airship? I personally think it was the Zodiac Stones...they give power to evil people but I think they could givee even more power to noble people. That was certainly demonstrated in the revival of Malak.
And Delita...I thought he made a pretty cool best-friend-turned-villain :P

Tactics? Wow, if it weren't for FF7, it would be my most favoured FF game of all time. :D The deviation of the storytelling technique, character designs and gameplay from the typical FF norm made it more enjoyable than I'd expected. It's one of the few games with a shitload of characters that I enjoyed playing (usually, I hate stories with a lot of characters since most of them don't really do much.). Even though the characters have no noses, I still grew to love them... (well, maybe except that effing Engineer guy--I think his name's Balk or something.)
Also love the Cloud side quest thingy. Aerith looked so precious in that blue dress (kinda reminded me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast...?)
I'm weird since I love Oracles. XD Hmm, but besides that, Lancers kick arse. As well as Samurai. :D
Hey, before playing the game, did anybody else think that Ramza was a girl? XD My siblings and I all did. Must be the figure.
vashsunglasses - August 7, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
I'm one of those people who just couldn't get into the game. I'm not very good at that kind of tactical stuff and I just kept losing...
Bloodbath - August 19, 2005 02:43 PM (GMT)
For some reason, I'm addicted to the gameplay. :P I love escaping from my enemies, and just taunting them. Think crippling them with a Knight's abilities, and then stealing everything they have.
I'm replaying it, and I've found an incredible build for Ramza - might not be the best, but... I like it! ^_^ - a Ninja with a mastered Lancer's Jump as second ability. Then AttackUP for support, and MoveHp-Up. Cast Haste and voila! Killing machine in action!
 I hope someone understood that.
And Zhakeena, I think you mean Mustadio. Sincerely, I don't like him because he can only be useful as a Mechanic. <_<
Eternity-Knight - August 19, 2005 03:58 PM (GMT)
I rather liked Tactics although I wasn't very good at it and it took me at least a month to beat it.
My favorite classes were all of the ones that could hit hard and had high HP. Like Knight and Lancer. Although the Ninja's 2 weapon ability also came in handy.
Bloodbath - August 20, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
A month? It took me about a few months because I loved fooling around and building up my classes. Did you do the propositions in the bars? I kept doing them just for the treasures!

I did them for places and treasures. I thought the little illustrations that popped up when you finally got them were very pretty :P
I just realized that FFT has another theme that deviates from the norm. Usually, when you have a story with two best friends...the rich boy ends up being the "evil" one and the poor boy ends up being the "good" one, right? But in FFT, it's Delita as the vengeful peasant who goes bad and Ramza as the noble who steps down from his position to defend what's right.
Just one of the things that makes me appreciate it's cool story all the more :P

The propositions... The only reason I did those was to get the JP for my characters. Oh and the gil was useful also.
Bloodbath - August 21, 2005 12:57 PM (GMT)
The propositions were good... except for the ones in isolated cities (Lionel Castle... Zoland Fort City... blablabla...). I hate going into battles without my regular team. >_< Well, the only thing bad about the propositions was that they didn't build up levels, which might be a bad thing if Ramza gets ahead. :ermm:
Jinchuu - August 23, 2005 02:49 AM (GMT)
One of the most underated games ever and one of the best. I loved the stories and the characters. Also, it wasn't so easy to beat, it was actually a decent challenge. I am glad Squaresoft did this game way back when, and they need to make a true sequal to it, even though the GBA version was ok.
murasame - September 4, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
I love Final Fantasy Tactics! It's one of my top five favorite games of all time. The story is quite good and the battle system is addictive. Sadly, I've only beaten it once ( and that was 6 -7years ago . 0_0) and I never played it again... until this month. I'm already on Chapter 3 right now and I'm happy that I've made it that far without the help of those unlimited Chaos blades(which were used by me as throw weapons. 500+ damage! Whohoo!).
By the way, are there any Orlandu fans here?
Kusari Yarou - September 7, 2005 04:16 AM (GMT)
Orlandu=Obi Wan Kenobi :D
Orlandu KICKS ASS...every battle with him is good as won. I hate him sometimes because he never gives my other soldiers a chance to show of their hard earned skills and JP!

I know what you mean.Orlandu's like a one-man army. :D In my party, it's usually him and Agrias who are doing the attacking; Ramza and Mustadio are the healers/back-ups. As for Cloud , he is simply there because I am such a fangirl.
Oh,who were the members of your party during the final battle?
Kusari Yarou - September 7, 2005 10:45 AM (GMT)
Oh...it was usually the good old army I trained from the start...I grew so attached to them that I couldn't let them go!

*thinks for a second* It was Ramza, Orlandu, Agrias and some others.

I agree with that!
Bloodbath - September 12, 2005 11:05 AM (GMT)
I luuuuurve my people now... Two healers (different gender), two attackers (different gender), and Ramza. Sometimes, I swap Ramza with... uh... Reis or Beowulf or something. ^_^
As I'm replaying... I haven't gotten Cloud yet! I still have to wait for so long... ::looks at PS1::
For the final battle.... Ramza, Orlandu, Reis, Beowulf, Worker 8. :P I was weak back then, and they were my strongest people!
Hardedge - September 13, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
i absolutely loved FFT!!! probably one of the best FF stories there is, of course excluding FF7 :P i also loved how characters from FF7 were integrated into FFT *coughCxAcough*, simply beautuful XD the battle system was pretty awesome too, the classic FF jobs were way too much fun to fiddle around with, i especially liked the monk and samurai class :D
i don't wanna say anything that might be a spoiler, so i'll just ask vaguely, did anyone wait til the end of the credits and see something...unexpected?
murasame - September 13, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I love that they used again the classic job classes. I had fun mixing and matching the different skills. :D
I love the samurai class too, even though my katana frequently breaks and I have to go and buy 5-6 extras. I also love the ninja class. The ninjas' Throw skill was very useful during the time when my game crashed and I received unlimited chaos blades (and samurai swords as well).

Oh you mean that scene between Boy X and Girl X wherein ....
Yeah, I saw that. It really took me by surprise.
Hardedge - September 13, 2005 05:36 AM (GMT)
lol, ya that's the particular scene i'm talking about, it really shocked me, i sat in front of the tv with my jaw dropped for about 10 minutes
the ninja class is frickin awesome, but i prefer samurai for some reason, i like the outfits :P another classic feature that really made FFT a fun game :D

We had the same reaction. :D I was actually feeling lighthearted before that ,seeing the FMV featuring the Beoulves . And then I saw the bonus scene. Just when you thought it was all over... :o
But I loved FFT more after seeing that. The twists in the story are just good. And Delita-- he was really awesome, the way he manipulated both sides to his advantage. He reminds me of Jowy from Suikoden II though Jowy was a lot kinder...

haha, Delita was really manupilative  there were quite a few twists in FFT that i never saw coming.

lol, ya the character designs were really different compared to other FFs! also, the transition illustrations between chapters were just beautiful!
aw now i feel like playing it again!

I actually got inspired to play it again. The remarks of the people here reminded me again of how much I love Tactics :D . It's too bad though that it didn't became such a hit internationally but I think it was an awesome game. Like what Kusari has mentioned in the first page of this thread, it was probably the battle system that turned off many gamers.
Anyway, I'm having quite a little difficulty right now dealing with Velius(Wiegraf) and his annoying henchmen. I especially hate it when he summons Clops. It's unfortunate that the silence effect from Agrias' Lightning Stab doesn't usually work the first time. During these moments, I wish my game would crash again and give me back my chaos blades.

Chaos Blades? Lucky lucky you!

Yeah, I know what you mean, murasame. Jowy, at least had good intentions and was less manipulative(probably why he lost in the end). Delita, though, was only out for revenge against those who used him and he was so manipulative and the fact that he actually succeeded makes him scarier :ermm:

I currently have NinjaChemist!Ramza that has the Auto-potion,Move-Hp Up and the Equip Armor abilities, and it's not working really well with my strategy. I'm currently thinking of using a different skill combi.Any suggestions?

| Chaos Blades? Lucky lucky you! |
Yes, I was. :D But unfortunately, in exchange for all those chaos blades, I was prohibited from buying items from the item shop. All throughout the game I have to limit the use of my x-potions, phoenix downs, ethers etc.

You played Suikoden II as well? I love that game, especially the cooking contest part.
Anyway, going back to Delita, I agree that he is really scary for one who looks adorable. He is the breathing embodiment of the expression 'Never judge a book by its cover.' I was kinda saddened how his friendship with Ramza became strained because of his plans. Though there were times that he still shows his concern but they weren't able to go back to the way they used to before Teta died.

True. Girl X surprised me more. Never really expected that from her. :o They are one twisted couple don't you think? :D

| They are one twisted couple don't you think? |
I think they really loved each other at first but it spun out of control. :P
Anyone have theories on how Ramza survived? I think it was the stones...they brought that guy, Malak, back to life, right? They have the power to destroy corrupt people like Wiegraf but with pure people like Ramza, they show mercy...and they brought him back to life after the airship exploded. Or something :P
Bloodbath - September 24, 2005 02:50 PM (GMT)
Wheeew... the hidden scene also shocked me. It was the same place that Boy X promised to protect Girl X, right? Wow. Irony. Girl X might've truly loved Boy X, but then the truth came out, and she thought that Boy X was really a bad person. Poor her.
Just look at her name. A tragic one, sort of like some certain girl in one of Shakespeare's plays...
For the Ramza thing... well... maybe the Holy Stones saved him, like what you said, Kusari. Or... the fighting group was separated. Oooh... maybe what Orlandu saw was just a ghost! You're never sure... :o
Kusari Yarou - September 26, 2005 12:04 PM (GMT)

It wasn't a ghost because ghost chocobos don't drink water!!! :P
I don't like thinking that it was a ghost. That would mean sweet, noble Ramza died after all when all he deserved was a long, peaceful life after the war

 Oh... it drank water? Okay then. Then again, you're still never really sure... ghosts can attack you in the game! Why can't they "pretend" to drink water?
He deserves a good life. All that hardship... Just that him being a ghost is not bad, seeing as how they didn't really seem to talk. :ermm: Never sure, though! Orlandu survived, and he prolly was in the final battle. :dunno:
eyes of a fighter - October 1, 2005 07:47 AM (GMT)
I HAD AN ULTIAMTE CLOUD IN FFT!!!
Is was Soldier/Summoner With MP walk she he could heal himself Fairy Any time and he Had zodiac Strongest attack in the Game with The Stongest Armor Ribbion Matira Blade Everything maxed out level 99 heheh AWESOME better then TG Cid
Bloodbath - October 1, 2005 08:36 AM (GMT)
Darn! >_< Lucky!
I could never get as good as that! Cloud was a bit hard to work with because he was so behind in HP and strength. Still, a Soldier/Summoner hybrid sounds good...
Who else had trouble working with Cloud?! :lmao:
NekoDono - May 25, 2007 11:13 AM (GMT)
Ha. I never ever use Cloud in FFT. I don't feel like taking the time to level the little guy. I already have uber strong characters so I don't see the point. (Plus the Materia Blade stinks to high heaven)
sha - May 27, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
may i ask something?
cloud is the only man can equip ribbon, right?may i know what colour is it(cloud's ribbon)?and is it from the original FF7 game?
i dont have this game and i'm searching everywhere through the internet but i can't find it..of course i did visit many FFT website, but still i can't see the ribbon..
please,i really want to know..anyone?
NekoDono - May 28, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
Cloud can indeed wear the ribbon, unlike most males. My brother and I (who are avvid fans of FFT) believe it is a joke reference to his cross dressing in FFVII. Nothing cleris about it.
