Title: The Ring 2

I need somebody to rap with about this movie! None of my friends liked it enough to discuss it with me.
I had a thought while watching it, is Samara truly evil? We saw her posess Aidan, and the only way Rachel could stop this was to try and drown him.
Samara's mother(played by the same lady who played Mae Tuck!) said that Samara told her to do the same thing, so it leads me to wonder if perhaps The Evil had done the same thing to Samara, but her mother failed to save her

I haven't seen it. But I did see Ring2 Japanese version.
I'm basing this on Ring 1.... I think Samara's anger and hatred was developing ever since she was forced to live in the stables. Everyone was treating her like a freak, it maybe that she has no control over her powers, and she was suffering for it.

When Samara was a baby, her mother claimed that she told her to kill her. So the mother (played by Sissy Spacek---dunno if I spelled it right... but she played "Carrie" in the movie "Carrie" from the 70's.) decided to drown her, but the nuns saw it so they got Samara from her and just put the baby for adoption.
The Ring (the first movie) made more sense than the sequel, in my point of view, because at on the sequel, it's like Samara's characterization began to change from being "misunderstood/unheard" to being plain "evil". Maybe it's because of the change of directors. Gore Verbinski directed the first one. I forgot the name of the director who directed the second one.
The original Japanese versions (Ring 0 to be exact, which is the prequel to Ring 1 and Ring 2) had two Sadakos (from where Samara's character was based, I guess, but not entirely... <_<): one evil one (who remained a child because the scientist suppressed her growth) and the other one who grew up to be an actress. The scientist's aim was to separate the two from each other because if the evil one combines with the good one, they can really cause havoc. Unfortunately, there came a time when they got together and the little Sadako merged with the grown-up Sadako. <_<'
Connecting this with The Ring and The Ring 2 (the American versions)... I don't see any connection. O_o'
Samara on the first movie was characterized to be like a misunderstood and neglected child, so she started doing those bad things to people and the horses that she hated. As Rachel (Naomi Watts) had said in the near end, "She just wants to be heard..." that's why Samara burned those images in the videotape through projected thermography (one of her abilities with her mind) so that people can watch it and learn how she suffered.... like she wants the whole world to know how bad she really felt. So she spreads it like a disease (as mentioned by her foster father, Mister Morgan).
When the doctor in the Sanitorium told Samara "You wouldn't wanna hurt anyone", she answered, "But I do, and I'm sorry. It won't stop." ...
Well, I dunno. Maybe she's got two Samaras in her. A good one and a bad one? : :ermm:

Nuns? 0.0; Adoption?
Well that screwed up the "Certificate of Live Birth" Rachel found in the box in the Morgans at the first movie.

Yeah. That sequel really seemed to have screwed everything up. O_o' It didn't even make sense... the whole "Mommy" thing... like Samara wanted a mother and so she possesses Aidan so that Rachel can be her mother. O_o'

well...one thing is for sure The Ring 2 wasnt scary...(Shy-guys little brother fell asleep when we went to watch it  )

Yeah. I laughed all throughout the movie and just enjoyed Samara's cuteness. Too bad it wasn't Daveigh Chase playing Samara there anymore. If they had to show Samara's face for a bit, they just CG'd something from the first movie. :(

Scary movie. The first one, at least.
The second one was just... maybe just for the sake of making a sequel. Some movie producers love doing that just for the money... and boredom.

I haven't watched either movies. They both sound interesting by the way all of you say it.
Though I'm not sure if I should watch the sequel now. :ermm:
Tifa Lockheart - July 13, 2005 04:00 AM (GMT)
You could still watch the sequel for the fun of it.
Sefie - July 15, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
*SNIFF* I actually really LIKED the sequel! It wasn't half as scary as the first, but I still enjoyed it!
Anti-R - July 17, 2005 06:32 AM (GMT)
Oh, don't worry! ^^ I didn't like the sequels of the Japanese version either. And because of that, I didn't try to watch the American sequel, that's all.
Sorry I couldn't talk on that...

I love this movie!!! xD Btw, can anyone tell me how the main song is called? I'd really like to have it... :(

Samara is the essence of an abandoned child. She just wants to be loved. She wants a momma. That's why, before Rachel trapped Samara in the well once and for all, Samara called out "Mommy!!" Poor Samara. She was just lonely. Beautiful song, though!
