Be With You - Part I
Be With You - Part II
Theme song: Orange Range - Hana

I watched "Be With You" today. It was the third-highest grossing movie in Japan for 2004, though I have no idea why it took so long to come here. I heard Jennifer Garner's doing the American remake. Well at least it's not a Japanese horror movie, for once. Anyway, the movie was so sad. Me and my cousin cried so much, we could barely talk after that. Oh and we found out that my waterproof mascara worked better than hers. It's about this woman that chose love and thus an early death over everything else. The saddest part was probably when the guy asked her to forgive him for not being able to give her a happy life, then she turned around and told him that he was her happiness. Did I mention that the movie takes place after her death and she sort of comes back to life for awhile? Oh and that they have this really romantic moment in a flower field. Did this Japanese movie remind me of Cloud and Aerith? Of course!

So yeah, that's why I love Japanese movies. Let's hope the good people at Square Enix share the same sentiments as the other Japanese movie directors. *holds up "Love Beyond Death" signboards*

OH! It's Japanese title is "Ima Ainiyukimasu", literally translated it's "Going to Meet You Now". Japanese just cannot be translated well. Anyway, it sounds really familiar, doesn't it? ^_^

*goes back to her weeping*

i LOVE japanese movies. have you ever seen Battle Royale? gruesome, but not bad. :P

Clorith - June 25, 2005 04:37 PM (GMT)
Oh! I've heard of it! But I didn't see it, though. Not really into the violent types... Though I did watch a couple of "The Ring"'s and "Ju-on"... I did see the one Tifa's voice actress did. "Hana and Alice", another tear-jerker.

EnglishRose - June 25, 2005 04:53 PM (GMT)

Oh, the theme song for the movie! It's by Orange Range, the same people that did the theme song for BLEACH! I don't know how accurate these translations are, but they look like what I saw in the cinema...

Even if sooner or later we loose everything, let’s be more thankful that we met
Maybe the miracle on that day, that time, that place, will become another new trail

Thanks for the info Clorith. I better tell my brother about it so he can find me a dvd.
I like movies like these. My favorite is My Sassy Girl(but I think that was Korean)

Clorith - June 26, 2005 03:13 PM (GMT)
Oh yes! Did you watch Windstruck? It's the prequel. Cried terribly for that as well.

Kusari Yarou - June 27, 2005 09:49 AM (GMT)
I have Windstruck but unfortunately, the subtitles suck. So I've never seen it whole. I'm guessing the ending is sad, though, because the boyfriend was dead by the time My Sassy Girl came along...

Clorith - June 27, 2005 03:30 PM (GMT)
Goodness, was sobbing at the end! Had to sit in the theatre for a couple of minutes before getting up.

Oh is there some Japanese symbolism behind the rain? The girl in Be With You came back when it was raining, and it's raining in the Church when Cloud's there touching his ribbon. In Bleach, there's a scene where one of the characters says that she wishes she were the rain, because it connects heaven and earth... It'll be quite sweet for that scene in the Church, if that were what the AC team were trying to say...

Wheee! Late reply!

Ok I found this thread while I was schmoozing the board a week ago. I read the description of the movie and thought "that's right down my alley!". I looked online for 'be with you', but they only had information of the new one coming out with jennifer garner =P

And listing the japanese title of the movie didn't do me any good either. I guess it doesn't come out on DVD in japan until July 27th. BUT...I found a bit torrent site where I could download it from and watch it. I cried numerous times like a little school girl cutting onions....

The story was absolutely touching, and the ending...wow, I totally was not expecting that, but I couldn't help but squeel! I found a site where I can order the hong kong version of the DVD which has english subtitles *the japanese version doesn't have english subtitles for some reason?*, and it's only about $17.

I just wanted to thank you for posting about the movie, because I never would have heard about it if you hadn't! It's truely a remarkable movie and I strongly urge other people to see it.

BTW, Have any of you guys seen Kikujiro? I can guarantee you'd like it ^^

*brushes off cobwebs*

I know it must be really hard for most of you to get your hands on this DVD, so I found the streaming version on Crunchy Roll. You have to register to watch, I'm not sure if Veoh has Be With You. If anyone finds it there do tell.

Anyway, Nomura should have sooo paid them for movie rights. The scene with the water droplet was practically stolen from the opening of this movie. And the whole part about coming back in the rain... That and this was the #1 grossing Japanese romantic movie in 2004 (before AC was released). Watch this with tissues on hand, you have been warned. I sob whenever that piano tune plays.
