The latest issue of Dengeki Playstation features an interview with Yoshinori Kitase, director of FFVII and FFVII Tech Demo.

The interview is about a Final Fantasy for PS3, but in response to speculation about it being FFXIII, Kitase gave out a hint that the FFVII tech demo was supervised by him as well and that the development of the FF for PS3 is happening via a similar process...

During an interview with the Japan Gaming Magazine "Dengeki Playstation", Yoshinori Kitase (Director of Final Fantasy VII) revealed a Final Fantasy title is in the works for the PS3.

With the recent denials that a remake of Final Fantasy VII is in the works for the PS3, serveral sites have speculated that this may be Final Fantasy XIII. To this speculation Kitase-san responded...

"As a hint, one thing I can say is that the FFVII technical PS3 demo was supervised by me and created by Toriyama-san (Main Director on Final Fantasy X-2) and his team staff. I'll leave it to you, but you can imagine that development is happening via a similar process."

Well, the implication is that they may be doing a remake of FFVII for the PS3.

Well, the fact that they did deny a FFVII remake makes it a possibility that it is not a remaking...but that hint..I don't get it...If they were to remake it, its definitly in the planning process only (maybe from the responses from the tech demo), since what was scene in the tech demo is just AC models (Aerith from flowerfield, and Cloud's head onto Zack's body..)
Could be another FFVII sequel? ..Or just FFXIII..

If they make it, I'm going to have to see what the people say about it. I know that it's going to have enhanced graphics and such, but if they rip it off like they did FFX-2, I'm might rent it and see how I like it. I rented FFX-2 and I didn't like it that much. The only thing I was looking foward to was 1000 Words. Such a pretty song.

In interviews with Japanese publications, producers Yoshinori Kitase and Hiromichi Tanaka confirmed that their respective production teams were working on a new Final Fantasy game for PlayStation 3 and a new MMORPG respectively.

Confirming rumors which have circulated in Japan for months, Kitase, the head of Square Enix's first production team, stated he was working on a new Final Fantasy installment for Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3. While the director of Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII and VIII and producer of Final Fantasy X, X-2, the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and the Kingdom Hearts series declined to clarify whether his new project was Final Fantasy XIII, he mentioned the Final Fantasy VII technical demo shown at E3 had been supervised by himself and created by Motomu Toriyama's team. For reference, Toriyama has recently been serving as Final Fantasy X's event director and Final Fantasy X-2's main director.

Regarding the technical demo, Kitase confirmed that it had been put together within a matter of six weeks. While he initially wasn't optimistic about the possibility of creating the demo in such a short period of time, the team succeeded after calling upon Kouji Sugimoto (Threads of Fate director, Final Fantasy X character main programmer, Final Fantasy X-2 real-time programmer, Hanjuku Eiyuu Tai 3D main programmer). Kitase acknowledged that with more time, they would have been able to produce a higher quality demo making use of the PlayStation 3's specs.

As far as further additions to the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII are concerned, the producer would only say that possibility exists.

Kitase's colleague and head of the company's third production team Hiromichi Tanaka meanwhile confirmed that his team was working on a new MMORPG. Tanaka, who currently serves as producer of Final Fantasy XI explained that the Xbox 360 technical demo was in fact a product of various experiments his team had been conducting to see what visual quality could be achieved using next generation hardware. In an interview last month, it was revealed that the third production team had been working on a third Final Fantasy XI expansion pack ever since development commenced on the second expansion, Chains of Promathia.

I would really doubt a sequel to FFVII, since AC is the sequel. However, Nomura said that DC isn't really a sequel to AC, so maybe they're making a "real" sequel to AC. If Cloud dies in AC, though, I think they'd have a hard time pulling that off without Cloud. They seem fixated on the Turks, so maybe a game with the Turks as the main characters? *shrug* I'd rather see a remake of FFVII myself. :lol:

Err...aren't they making a game about the Turks for PSP, not PS3? I heard about this a few months ago but I never found an online source. They printed this in Game Informer magazine, I think.

They pulled the same thing with FF6. They made up a new tech demo for it just to test what they could do and then nevr did anythign with it.

I won't be convinced until I acually see a game.

Something about 3 years and 500 people to create exactly what they have in mind for an FFVII remake...

I remember they were talking about the weapons and accesories you eqip could be seen in the FMV sequences as well... Cool stuff like that. I'll check out that mag. again some otehr time and type it all out. Or try to find it somewhere online.

This isn't the exact interview I read, but it's pretty similar. I'll keep searching. Oh and I was off a bit... It would take 300 people and 5 years to make an FFVII remake. My bad, I switched them around... >.O

eh...a remake would be decent if they left it exactly the same, maybe add some extra bosses, and what not, but dont change it way to much, same battle system, nothing to nutso about the remake...um i i dont know...i honestly think that the PS3 is going to fail...namluy cause their system costs $600 to make and they are selling it for $3-$400 dollars, and they are hoping that their games will save them. Since they start at a minimum of $70. But i dont know...a remake maybe, but definetly no more sequels...i just wish they would do something for FFX...like take the whole story and turn it into a book...or something i dont know...

PS3 costs about 500 to make... And They did the same thing with the PS2. They lost alot of money the first year for the PS2 but made up for it the year after. And the year after that they made about 1 billion dollars. And right now they're still making alot of money off of it.

And yeah... I doubt they'd change anything in FFVII. I wouldn't mind specials like, secret Advent Children clothes and whatnot. Extras are always good.

And about FFX. I wouldn't mind a prequel game about Braska, Jecht, and Auron. =)

a prequel game would be cool, have jecht in zanarkand and get to see tidus a little bit before, and then head to spira and do everything as them, yeah thatd be cool. see wakka ten years younger and everything, and little yuna, that would be an awesome game, im still for a book though.
