it's pretty much clear already. If you visit
Http://adventchildren.net much there was a news update on Aerith's role and relationship with cloud. Though because Tifa was introduced first you got more insight on their "relationship" if there ever was one XD
First of all Cloud and Tifa are DISTANT lmaoz According to it Cloud hadn't kept in contact with Tifa at ALL during the two year period even when he has his active PHS. Cloud was in a state of being alone on the world probably questioning what to do with his life because he kept to himself not talking to any of his comrades.
And it said that also Tifa somewhat left her feelings behind, they began to finally deteoriate and their relationship in the movie is more neutral. Even when he first calls her during the geostigma incident or whatever (collecting my memory here) hes pretty breif about saying he wants to meet, and she is suprised but not thrilled with that annoying "OH CLOUD, come to me magically NOW" XD
It's pretty clear in alot of the news that is given that cloud is unable to forgive himself for Aerith's death and hes constantly clinging onto that memory. Hes supposedly very questionable of what he should do because obviously he did care ALOT for Aerith and more than likely loved her because I guess they said hes REALLY thinking ALOT about it :o
so yeah it's pretty much official, he really did care alot for her and Tifa and him are just friends now fighting the good fight. whooo, I hope this is something new, I have a 50% chance all the time of it not being new everytime I give news =____=
