Title: Chain Of Memories Website
Description: Take a look!

Anastar - November 4, 2004 12:29 AM (GMT)
*squee!!* Square has started their Chain of Memories website. Go to the following website, click on the icon for Chain of Memories, and watch the video!!

http://www.square-enix.com/games/kingdomhearts/

It says that Sora will have to lose something dear! *squee!!*

Is this another parallel to FFVII? Cait Sith predicted that Cloud would lose something dear...

FF_Goddess - November 4, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
"Ahead lies something you need... but to claim it, you must lose something dear..."

Veeeeery interesting! ;)

Andina - November 4, 2004 02:56 AM (GMT)
Wah? GameBoy Advance game? Oh for goodness sake...what's with the handheld device fetish all of a sudden, Square? *grumble*

Sefie - November 4, 2004 03:05 AM (GMT)
Hmmmm, I think there's DEFINATLY a paralell there! Don't mention it to the CloTi's though ;)

Yes, Chain of Memories is for GBA... Kingdom Hearts 2 will be for the PS2.

I agree... I'd like to play Chain of Memories, but I don't want to go out and buy a GBA just to play it. :(

Andina - November 4, 2004 03:11 AM (GMT)
Luckily...there's a way around all those platforms in the way of emulators. But it's up to you to decide if you want to use them as that's pretty much piracy in my eyes...but sometimes you just get desperate when you want to play something badly. I would gladly buy any FF related games Square might release if only to support them, but I refuse to buy whole new consoles and other devices.

Why cant they just stick to one platform. <_<

*sigh* Why cant they ever think about the poor fans who can barely feed themselves.

Kaldea - November 4, 2004 04:24 AM (GMT)
I like them being on a lot of consoles. I'm all for Square with Nintendo and stuff. Something about FF related things going back to their roots feels good to me. But yeah, it sucks to have to have all the systems. I have almost all of them though and now I'm almost too poor to get the games.

Anyway, I am definately getting this game. I'll stomach the Disney stuff for FF references.

Anastar - November 4, 2004 04:43 AM (GMT)
I'm curious whether there's already an FF reference. The Chain of Memories website was launched today, and it says that Sora will lose something dear, which is just like Cait Sith's prediction that Cloud would lose something dear... see the first post for the link.

Kaldea - November 4, 2004 04:52 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I know. I'd get the game for stuff like that. Just like how I got KH for mainly Cloud, Aerith and the other FF characters. I don't like Disney but I love anything FF. So that's pretty much the reason why I wanna get the KH games.

Anastar - November 4, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
I did the same thing... I got Kingdom Hearts just for the FF characters. But I ended up loving the game and all the characters, even though the Cloud and Aerith moments were my favorite. Cloud in the Coliseum talking to Sora was wonderful, too.

Chain of Memories seems to have Cleris birds chirping in it, too.

Aerith - November 4, 2004 09:17 AM (GMT)
Look at it in the illegal way, obviously that here will be a rom for it..and emulator to play it on the computer as soon as it comes to NA :P

Andina - November 4, 2004 10:13 AM (GMT)
Like you all, the only reason I got Kingdom Hearts was because of those FF characters and they are the reason why I liked it so. So they better include whole lot of characters from FF games in the future Kingdom Hearts installations if they want us to buy them. :D

I haven't been playing close attention to this game, so care to explain what you mean by that, sweetie? ^_^

That's very true, but I really wouldn't mind buying games and thus supporting developers I like. But sometimes it's just seems impossible.

slowerthanaverage - November 4, 2004 10:59 AM (GMT)
it's so annoying they are releasing CoM on GBA cos you actually get to play as Riku n it!! And I wanna play as Riku

The intro is lovely. Yes, the line is awfully familiar!

The characters have lost their memories, but the memories of those dear to them are stored in their hearts.

Sefie - November 4, 2004 07:46 PM (GMT)
I finally realized what "dear" thing Sora will be losing. His memory isn't it? So, it's really not Cleris related I think. It was probably just a coincedence in translation. *sigh* Oh well....

I'm not so sure that "losing something dear" refers to Sora's memories because it's not just Sora who loses his memory in CoM.

Good point... :D I would just die of happiness if Sora and Kairi's story paralleled that of Cloud and Aerith.

Welllll... Sora is losing his memory without becoming someone else, and there's something about an anti-Sora in the game. Did you notice Sora splitting in the video? The Cloud that Sephiroth kept summoning could sorta be seen as an anti-Cloud, couldn't it? Hmmmm...

PinkRibbon - November 5, 2004 10:31 PM (GMT)
Actually here's the summary of KH: Chain of Memories--what he loses is NOT his memories...it's already been lost. So there is a very good chance that Sora and Kairi's story will parallel Cloud and Aerith.

QUOTE
The main deal behind Chain of Memories relates fully back to the Unknown talk with Sora at the crossroads. Sora has lost something, and what he has lost is his memories. His memories are scattered as cards, and now, Sora must go back and regain his memories, as he climbs higher through the castle. The unknown said he will gain something, but in return, he'll lose something.. who knows what it could be.

It what seems to be very surprising, in one screenshot, we see Cloud on Sora's team helping Sora. I highly doubt Cloud is a playable character but it sure is great to have him on your team...

And here's more info that sheds on the question:

QUOTE
In a CG for Chain of Memories, we see Sora at the crossraods again, and in the back, though hard to see an unknown appears to be following Sora. This is a a rough translation that immediately follows the above picture:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unknown: The more important it is, the deeper you keep it in your heart until eventually you forget it. That includes yourself.
Sora: Myself too?
Unknown: You will lose the light in the dark and even forget what you lost.
Sora: The light, in the dark...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is hard to tell what this means but looking at the conversation and the new details on Chain of Memories, Sora will be looking to get his "memories back", and from there, Kingdom Hearts 2 will begin.
In Chain of Memories, Sora will work to get his memories back and as well meet with Riku and other new and old people. Sora will mainly explore through Castle Oblivion as it is what lied ahead of him after an unknown confronted Sora telling him, "Ahead lies what you seek…but to claim it you must lose something dear." What will Sora lose and what will he gain? He will hopefully gain his memories back but what can he lose?

Throughout Chain of Memories, we see Sora encounter and speak with many Unknowns through his journey in the Castle. We even see Axel tell Sora, "You have lost sight of the light within the darkness and you have even forgotten that you have lost it." While Axel says he'll explain it to Sora, Sora jolts out by saying "I'll see you myself!". Axel than says, "When you awaken sleeping memories, you may no longer be you." What could Axel mean by this?

There is also a girl named Namine...

QUOTE
In certain magazine scans, we are able to see Riku (both normal Riku and dark Riku so we know his character changes in Chain of Memories). Below is a translation from the above magazine scan:

Normal Riku: 'Ask your memories about the reason. If you remember why Namine disappeared from the island, you should know.'
Dark Riku: 'Sora...if you go any farther, Namine will be hurt.'

The girl, whom one could see so far in some pictures, is called most likely Namine, is thus not not Kairi. This is the girl we see in Chain of Memories drawing the castle. In a scene Riku is to say that he will never let someone to her.

----
In the below screenshot, Sora says to Riku: I can't go back 'til I save you and Namine.

To recap: We know Riku is in Chain of Memories (duh), but what exactly is his role? Who knows. It seems the story is progressing around him as we are able to see Riku in his dark outfit and in his normal outfit as well as in an unknown cloak walking towards Ansem (which may start off as some sort of scene at the beginning of Chain of Memories). From the screenshots above, Riku is trying to protect the new girl, "Namine", who we barely know anything about. It seems that it'll all fall down on more translations and some pretty darn good interpretations to figure all this out.

I wonder who this "Namine" is...she is obviously known to Sora and Riku--someone who is close. And dear to Riku perhaps? I do not know what in the heck those developers are planning...

KH was about finding each other light, but yet, Sora and Kairi got seperated. I think it'll be very likely that Sora will perhaps lose Kairi... The conversation with Axel earlier seemed clear to me that it sheds brighter light on this theory. Here's what I think so far: Since Axel tells Sora that he had "lost" sight of the light--and since he had, and Kairi is his light as said in KH--I think it is Kairi whom he loses, because the dark side of him took over. Gosh, this is getting much like Cloud/Aerith's story, isn't it? *SQUEE*

Wow... in a sense, Cloud's memories were scattered like cards in FFVII. There were things he could remember, and things he could not remember.

Woot! Yes, I saw that screenshot. :D

Is it just me, or does this quote sound incredibly much like Bugenhagen in Cosmo Canyon in Disk Two?

Bugenhagen "What to do? Have you lost your way? When that happens we each have to take a good long look at ourselves."
"There's always something in the deepest reaches of our hearts."
"Something buried, or something forgotten."
"Remember it... Whatever that is, must certainly be what you are all looking for..."

And what did that something turn out to be?

Bugenhagen "Do you see it? What is it that you are searching for?"
(Cloud looks down)
Cloud "I remember Aerith a lot."

QUOTE (PinkRibbon @ Nov 5 2004, 10:31 PM)
an unknown confronted Sora telling him, "Ahead lies what you seek…but to claim it you must lose something dear."

This sounds SO much like Cait Sith's prediction:

"What you pursue will be yours. But you will lose something dear."

I think it's too similar to be a coincidence.

FF_Goddess - November 6, 2004 02:03 AM (GMT)
OMG, that is so totally cool! B) It really is starting to sound like Sora/Kairi=Cloud/Aerith! :o I would LOVE that! The CloTis would not be able to deny THOSE implications (although I am sure they would try)!

Too bad it's a GameBoy game though, as quite many do not seem to take those too seriously. Everything is so tiny and seems so irrelevant. *sigh* Why can't they just stick with PS2. <_<

Yes, I'm bitter...I want to be able to play anything Final Fantasy related on the big screen. *grumble*

Oh well, if nothing else at least this game will strenghten what is between Cloud and Aerith. Yet another nail in Tifa's coffin.

Anastar - November 6, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
I found it interesting that only half of Aerith is shown in the new screenshot of her in the commercial released today. It reminded me of the flower field scene pic where you only see half of her face. What is Square doing?

Here's the thread on the TV commercial for Chain of Memories:

CoM TV Commercial

There's a download and screenshots available.

Aerith - November 6, 2004 09:11 AM (GMT)
Hmm, I don't think it has anything to do with anything about Aerith in the trailer, it just goes up too fast to Kairi, so eventually she was shown all but in frames :P

Sefie - November 7, 2004 05:22 AM (GMT)
*reads all the translations about CoM* Oops! Guess I was wrong! Yay! I'm glad! Sora and Kairi are DEFINATLY sounding alot like Cloud and Aeris! How much does a GBA sell for these days?

Lesca - November 12, 2004 01:02 PM (GMT)
so...say if everyone has lost their memories...it would be so cool if Cloud and Aerith remebered each other, since their in each others hearts :)

LOL, goodness Lover, sometimes you're so "cruel" you crack me up!

I wonder why the US website took so long to launch. It's gonna be released in less than a month!

I'm confused... why is that cruel?

I was comparing Bugenhagen's quote in Disk Two to what the Unknown is saying at the crossroads because I thought it may be another parallel to FFVII since the two speeches are very similar. The parallel to Cait Sith's prediction is too close to be a coincidence, IMO. I brought up the parallels because I'm hoping they might indicate that there will be a Cleris message included in CoM similar to the Cleris message given in KH.
