Title: In The Field
Description: Just that one part.
Aki - May 31, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
I saw the most recent Advent Children Trailer, and when Cloud and Aeris are standing back to back in The Promised Land (I think that's where they were.. i obviously wouldn't know. =o) Aeris says (she talks in japanese, but the subtitles said!!) "You Came. Even though you're about to break." then she puts her hand on his arm.
Aw. He came to her even though well.. something bad is happening to him. (I think? Roflmao. Haven't really seen Advent Children yet!)
:cleris:
Kaldea - May 31, 2005 10:08 AM (GMT)
I think it just means that even with how he's breaking down both mentally (again) and physically, she seems to be where he wants to be. She's the most important thing to him. At the moment of AC anyway.
wilhelm - May 31, 2005 10:39 AM (GMT)
Remember the scene from the game where Aerith in the Sleeping Forest, talking to Cloud as she leaves for the Ancient's city?
Her line in AC is (minus how it's conjugated) the same as her one from FFVII, when she tells him not to "have a breakdown" or whatever it was.
Anti-R - May 31, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
^ Really? That's interesting! So Aerith is asking him not to have a nervous breakdown again. ^^
Sheesh, Cloud can't follow instructions...

I had totally forgotten that. That just makes that scene even more specialler. :huggle:
Clorith - May 31, 2005 12:57 PM (GMT)
Wai~! What Willie said coupled with the Itadaki intro has made me all fluffy. *starts humming silly love songs*
I hope Cloudie cries in AC! :fangirl:
*ducks tomatoes*
Cloudsgirl - May 31, 2005 02:23 PM (GMT)
Wait..... it can't be a flashback can it??!?!?!?!? Nevermind, he's wearing different clothes, crisis adverted.... but I hope they at least hug! :fangirl:
yin-chan - May 31, 2005 03:37 PM (GMT)
Yea I was a bit scared it might be a flashback too!! O___O
Phew, thanks for pointing out the clothes thing, Cloudsgirl!
ooh I hope Cloud cries too...!! Like, it would be so sad and my heart would completely break, but it would be SOOO epic!!!!! :cloud:
Sefie - May 31, 2005 04:01 PM (GMT)
I had a thought about this scene last night
After Aeris says that line, she ends it with "neh". According to my little sister(a third year Japanese student) in Japanese they don't end questions with the sound that we do, they use a word to implicate a question, "neh"(I'm...not sure how it's spelled  )
So, what is Aeris asking Cloud? There was never a question mark in the subtitles
wilhelm - May 31, 2005 05:25 PM (GMT)
What do you mean by the sound we do? Raising intonation?
'Ne' isn't really a question marker per say, that's be more suited for 'ka' or 'no'. People use 'ne' to try to get feedback or agreement from the listener ("... isn't it?/aren't you?/etc.", some people put Aerith's line as "...right?" to show that), and sometimes I think they just use it to sound cute. Some people (young girls) will use it after almost every word.
lenne - June 1, 2005 05:35 AM (GMT)
hmmm.....im also thinking about that field scene
but I have a question......what I mean is how did cloud end up in the field....and when did Aeris end up behind his back....did she just came out of nowhere...and does cloud just stand there looking around or did he walk around until she came out? :ermm:
(Oh great I confused myself with my weird questions *hits her head* )
(I dont even know if you guys understand the questions )
----------------------
You think you'll meet her again this way?
You think you would reach her by doing so?
The way you die could be a good way,is that what you think?
....I think want to be forgiven
Yes I want to be forgiven...
Forgiven?
By whom?
You know I never blamed you for anything
But I let you die...
You have to learn to forgive yourself...
But since you're here,I think you're one step closer to that!
------------------------
*You finaly came....even though you're about to break..right?*
~But I let you die....~
The strength we used in the final battle of two years ago...Remember how it felt?
Remeber how it was like?
Shy-Guy05 - June 1, 2005 06:55 PM (GMT)
Its funny how they change what they say huh? :lmao:
aeriscloud - June 1, 2005 11:07 PM (GMT)
:) (nods head) Statements often end with the tags ne or yo, depending on the way the speaker views the interaction with the listner. If the speaker is seeking the listner's confirmation or agreement to what has been said, the ne "right" could be added.
Though I don't remember if Cloud really answer Aeris, if he nodded or grunted, I suppose that could had answer what Aeris said.
flowerangel050,
 Exactly what I want to know too. But we can't really assume anything yet since its just trailer scenes, cut and edited in time frame. But we can still make guesses, can't we? It is an interesting question to ask since I want to know too. :P

Yeah, the raised intonation. It was late and I couldn't figure out how to say it
But that makes sense that she'd be seeking a response from Cloud. Mystery solved!

i read that it was just a dream, or something. they could be wrong, you never know. :ermm:
Shy-Guy05 - June 2, 2005 06:40 PM (GMT)
*hopes there wrong*
It will be kinda sad if it were a dream <_<
slowerthanaverage - June 3, 2005 05:40 AM (GMT)
Well, it really depends on how you interpret the word "dream". Yes you can say it is a dream...Cloud dreams of himself being with Aerith in a flowerfield and gathering strength from her words and presence. Is that dream merely something that Cloud made up in his mind because sunbconsciously, he needed Aerith so much he dreamt her up (It will be very tragic if it is so)? OR Aerith's spirit truly visited Cloud in a dream-like sequence, where she talked to him and encouraged him to fight?
I would prefer the latter. Because if it's the former, then Cloud is really breaking down to the extent that he is on the verge of being mental. :'(
Sefie - June 3, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
I think that it's a "dream" like the Sleeping forest scene

That's kind of what I was thinking as well.
Tifa Lockheart - June 4, 2005 12:07 PM (GMT)
"You came even though you're about to break"...
In my understanding, it could be a clue of what's going to happen to Cloud in the end
Some of you mentioned it already:
1. Breakdown physically?
2. Mentally?
3. Both?
*smiles evilly* I can't wait to see what happens to Cloud. I really hope he breaks, whatever Aerith meant by that
But the good thing is, even though he is about to break, for Aerith, he still has the strength to... go and meet her... ^_^'
...*and I'm suddenly lost for words because I was rudely interrupted by someone*...
Anastar - June 4, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
Well, I sure hope that Cloud wasn't asleep while driving Fenrir through the Sleeping Forest!! He was definitely asleep when he had the dream about meeting Aerith in the Sleeping Forest after the Temple of Ancients, but he wasn't asleep this time - so it has to be something other than "just a dream".
Aerith was able to talk to Cloud in his dreams in FFVII, but she was also able to communicate with Cloud while he was awake. We know that because after he woke up in the Forgotten City, he heard her voice at a distance that was impossible for him to actually hear with his ears.
After Cloud's party leaves the spiral shaped house and arrives at an intersection in the Forgotten City, Cloud says, "Aerith's voice... coming from there?" They had to go through part of the forest, around the lake, into another spiral shaped house, up two flights of stairs, down the crystal staircase, and into a different building before they actually found her. Cloud could never have actually heard her voice over that distance. He was awake at the time, so it shows that Cloud's able to communicate with Aerith when she's not physically present without being in a state of sleep.
We see the same thing in AC when Cloud says, "but I let you die", and he's touching the ribbon on his arm. He's also awake then, but he seems to be talking directly to Aerith. We also hear Aerith say, "Let's go.... Cloud...." to him while he's awake. It doesn't appear that Cloud needs to be asleep and having dreams in order to communicate with Aerith.
yin-chan - June 6, 2005 02:52 PM (GMT)
Good point.
I never really thought of it that way before.
I wonder how he's able to hear it....it's just...impossible if you think of it. How can he hear it? I mean they might be in love and all that - but even so, is it still possible to hear one's voice even from a far away distance?? O__O
even if a woman loved her husband with her life, she wouldnt be able to hear his voice is he was in chicago and she was in new york.
maybe its cause aeris is an ancient and has special powers or summat.
"Let's go cloud" in the trailer...well, there is a possiblity that in the movie she says it at a different time and they just edited it and inserted it into that particular moment in the trailer... :D
I hope not though!! it sounds so dramatic that way!! I almost cried!!
"IS THAT AERIS'S VOICE?! It's AERIS'S VOICE!!!!"
*scratches brother in excitement*
:cleris:
ucantmakeme - June 23, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
LOL. I was happy too.
Well, I hope it isn't in a dream or something like that. Where ever they are, I would hope they could be with each other physically. I think Cloud kind of needs Aerith, wether it's a dream or not. He seems so lost without her. If she is with him physically, that would be great because he could touch her, and they could embrace, or whatever the Advent Children dudes have planned. If she is talking to him mentally, or in a dream, whatever, he still needs her. He needs her reassurance, a guiding hand. He needs to forgive himself before he could ever start to get better. She's like his angel.
Aerith's_Man - June 23, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
I think it may have been a physical connection or meeting because Aerith reaches for him at the endo of the game so I figure that since they have that najor cliffhanger, that she managed to meet him and Cloud can only meet her around her place of death because her spirit is still there. But since she managed to meet him in the lifestream at the end of the game and Cloud did have a few run ins with the life stream, he may be able to physicaly enter the life stream to talk to Aerith, or she brings him there.
ucantmakeme - June 23, 2005 08:41 PM (GMT)
You just want them to meet physically because they are supposed to live happily ever after.*wink*
I would be a little bummed if they didn't get to hold each other though. :(
Aerith's_Man - June 24, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
They may no though UCMM because in the trailers they don't even look at eachother they are just back to back.
Aurora - June 24, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
Many of you have been wondering just how Cloud is able to communicate with Aerith:

To us, it appears that no matter the distance, Aerith can communicate with Cloud. The bond between them is so great that they can almost hear and feel each other from a great distance, even in dreams, even in death. This is what they show us in the game and in AC, but the point they are trying to illustrate is that they might not hear each other's voices, but their love is so strong that their "hearts call out to each other." Very cliche, I know, but that's how I interpret it ^^ (In your face Clotis!!)

I think that their love for one another certainly plays a part in it. If they were just friends, then why can't Tifa communicate with Aerith?
Elmyra and her husband were in love, but they didn't communicate with one another beyond death. That makes me think that Aerith being Cetra must be part of it, but that can't be the only reason - or else Aerith should have been able to communicate with Zack's spirit. Aerith didn't even know that Zack was dead.
Aerith was the only one who was able to hear the voices of the Cetra spirits in the Temple of Ancients. Cloud wasn't able to hear those voices.
So it can't be Aerith's abilities as a Cetra alone that make them able to communicate with one another. It can't be love alone that makes them able to communicate, either, or else Elmyra would have been able to communicate with her dead husband's spirit and Barret should have been able to communicate with his dead wife. I think it must be a combination of their love for one another and Aerith's powers as a Cetra.

Thanks for the explanation!! now it all makes sense to me...! *bangs self on head*
:P
ucantmakeme - June 24, 2005 08:40 PM (GMT)
Anastar's explanation makes my brain feel small.
But that totally makes sense! *understands*
And Zave, just because they were back to back in the trailers doesn't mean they aren't smart enough to turn around!LOL.

If this is true, we could also use this as proof that Aerith really was over Zack in FF7. Because if she still had strong feelings for Zack after all those years, why didn't she just use her Cetra abilities to get in touch with his spirit?

That's a very good point...I've never thought of that before...maybe their feelings for each other weren't strong enough. Zack seemed to be really infatuated with her from the game though....

The field scene reminds me of the whole thing with the field in FFVIII. Rinoa tells Squall that he can find her there. When he is lost in time, knowing that he can meet his love there pulls him through.
When Aeris says "You came," I interpret that as meaning Cloud made it to the Promised Land, since at the end of the game he says, "An answer from the Planet…the Promised Land…I think I can meet her… there."
If he doesn't end up in the Promised Land, I'll eat my hat! :P
