At the end of FFVII, Marlene recognized Aerith's spirit when Holy appeared, which suggested some kind of connection between the two. The dialogue in the AC premiers hasn't suggested that such a connection exists, but Marlene has her hair braided just like Aerith and wears a pink ribbon in her hair. She's also the only child we've seen who isn't affected by Geostigma. She got away from the SHM in the Sleeping Forest on her own. Do you think such a connection between Marlene and Aerith may enter into the story of AC somehow?

Also, I was really hoping to see Elmyra in the movie... is there any chance that she has such a bit part in the movie that her character hasn't been shown to us yet?

I think there's a connection. I found a fanart where Marlene is praying and has the pink ribbon in her hair...it would be a good idea if Marlene was the carrier of Aerith's spirit.
It's would be cute and it would make sense. Like...even if our time is short, we should "build" something for the next generation who will follow our path.

Interesting, interesting... could Marlene and Aeris be linked? That'd be kind of weird... we don't know too much about Marlene's mother, do we? And well, Dyne was... Dyne. Did Aeris give her something before Aeris was kidnapped by the Shinra when they have her in the helicopter, and she tells Barrett that Marlene is safe? Was she simply stating that she was with Elmyra, or was she forshadowing something more?

After seeing the ending of FFVII with Marlene feeling Aerith's spirit, I have always thought there was a connection. But so far with the evidence (or lack thereof) that Square has given us fans, there really isn't much to go on other than the fact she wears a ribbon in her hair. But I think we'll be seeing more. Besides, I've always loved the little "I won't tell Tifa" thing she said in FFVII after your choice of words. :P

I always took that to mean that there was something more to Marlene. Ya know, the typical anime "special little girl with special psycic (I canNOT spell tonight)powers". However, a connection between the two of them would be SO COOL.

Hmm... angels usually contact or show themselves to children because they are innocent little creatures of God. ^_^ Let's say Aerith is like an angel and she decided to just connect herself with Marlene to guide Cloud because Marlene is a child... her spirit is still pure and innocent... just like Aerith's, I guess. :unsure:
