Hmmm, I've discovered that many people here actually LIKE Barret and Tifa together! I thought I was the only one
So guys, let's have a little area to bring us together :D

It makes me sad that Barrifa is so unpopular. Besides Cloud and Aeris, I think that these two have the most chemistry in the whole game! Tifa's able to calm Barret down, and she just has a way with him ;) And Barret would be good for her too. He's obviously very kind to her, gives her plenty of attention, and he needs to be taken care of(and Tifa's a very domestic seeming woman). Plus there's always their bond through Marlene!

So, why do YOU guys like BarretxTifa?

What a great idea! This is a couple that really needs more publicity!

If you don't mind me being partial to RudexTifa and VincentxTifa on the side, then I'd love to join your club, Sefie. ^_^

This is a great relationship, because there's already a backstory and a well-established sense of mutal care, warmth, and concern. I actually do think that Barret had a thing for Tifa in the game; he always seemed gentler around her, and I think it's very possible that some of his inital hostility towards Cloud could've been motivated by envy. I think there were undertones in the game for this kind of relationship. There's so many great moments: Barret's comment about Tifa being "some kinda lady", the way he reacts to her being in danger in Junon...

And of course, the whole Marlene aspect is just too cute for words. :wub:

This pairing gets so little credit, though. I can't stand how people don't acknowledge this possibility just because "Ewwww Barret isnt HAWT hes Mr.T!!!!". Just because the fangirls think he isn't as attractive as Vincent or Sephiroth (and if he was, I bet Barrifa would have much more support!), it doesn't mean that they wouldn't be a good couple or make each other happy. And the idea that Tifa only deserves, and would only choose to be with, an extremely good-looking man is disgusting and gives Tifa no credit at all. :mad:

Anyway, I really like the relationship that these two have - for example, how Tifa can calm Barret down and get him to think more reasonably, and how Barret tries to motivate Tifa and won't let her sell herself short by believing that she's weaker than she really is ("When'd you become such a wimp?!" - I love that line!). There's a great dynamic there, and I think they both seem really comfortable and relaxed around each other (none of this awkwardness that Cloud and Tifa have). I think they'd make a lovely couple and have a great relationship - they're a good mix of introversion and extroversion; but Barret is extroverted in a way that wouldn't make Tifa feel shy or self-conscious, but confident and able to bring him down and calm his temper. Tifa helps Barret get in touch with his more sensitive and reasonable side, while Barret is very protective of Tifa, so he'd fit the part of a 'hero' but at the same time he acknowledges her own strength and capabilities, and won't do everything for her. He's there for her, but lets her be strong for herself. I just love that! :fangirl:

EXACTLY. I think that's exactly why this couple gets no credit. Barret isn't bishie, so he can't have romance. Oooh nooo

Unfair, but true. After all, only bishies deserve sex and have libidos. <_< Apparently, because Barret isn't sexy he doesn't have the emotional potential for romantic love, only fatherly love. And even if he does, then he still can't EVER have Tifa (set him up with Elmyra instead!). Even if he cares for her and would be good to her! It's just wrong that he ends up with someone that beautiful, so he doesn't deserve to have the beautiful goddess that is Miss. Tifa Lockhart!

FINALLY! I've been waiting for a Barret&Tifa club! I agree this couple has been ignored for way too long. <_<

When I first played VII, I thought Barret and Tifa were already a couple. Together with Marlene, they looked like loving family. Tifa is the only woman on the team he was really close to. Same goes to Tifa, since I never thought Tifa and Cloud were really that close to each other in the game. They have a strong friendship, that can blossom to even more.

Marlene propably looks up to Tifa like a daughter looks up to her mother. They have that mother/daughter bond already. And you can really see it in AC, IMO. I assume Barret has noticed this, that's why he entrusted Tifa to care for Marlene while he's gone. I can also see Marlene playing matchmaker for Barret and Tifa. It's too cute. :fangirl:

AND WHO SAYS BARRET ISN'T BISHOUNEN MATERIAL!!!??? Have they seen him is AC? :mad: I should slap them with a logic paddle or something. <_< The graphics in the game weren't as advance as the graphics are now, but look at him in AC!

I'm just one of the many who thought Tifa was Barret's wife at first.
And latere was awfully worried about Tifa trapped in the gas chamber, wasn't he? And that scene where he threw that ladder down to Tifa was something out of a romantic action movie :D

When I first saw Barret in AC's graphics, I actually thought he was pretty hot. ^_^ I mean, he's not up with Cloud and Vincent etc, but he's really good-looking. I guess they could work, but he always seemed more fatherly to her than relationship material. Whatever. :ermm:

I'll join!! I've always thought Barret and Tifa would make a great couple. They get along very easily and there's good communication between them. Barret seems to really care about Tifa, and he's very supportive of her. Barret's also the type who would commit himself to Tifa if they were in a relationship, which I think is really important. Barret admires Tifa's fighting skills and trusts her enough to leave Marlene in her care. He called her "some kinda lady" after the Lifestream Event, which shows that he thinks a lot of her.

Barret's willing to be a hero for Tifa, too, which is something she's always wanted. Barret did that for her Junon when she was thrown into the gas chamber. He was always worried about her safety, which shows that he cares about her a lot.

I think they'd make a great couple! :huggle:

so it needs to be asked - favorite Barifa moment?

for me it would have to be:

A. when Barret pulls Tifa to "safety" after Cloud plummets to his possible death after they fought the Air Buster

B. obviously - Barret rescuing Tifa from the gas chamber at Junon.

For me, it was Barret worrying to death about her when she was stuck in the gas chamber. Also, seeing them in 7th Heaven together, because that was where I first got the impression that they were married.

Mmmm, favorite moment....I always have a tough time choosing these! I liked seeing Tifa calm Barret down, and I also liked that scene in the Highwind when she falls over and he stands over her protectivly

I think that Barrifa is really possible...They act as if they were together sometimes.
People would have probably learned to appreciate Barret if he wasn't being the hulk of the group all the time.

I completely agree Sefie... all of the characters in 7 were great (except maybe Cait Sith - I wasn't a fan... he seemed oddly out-of-place). I thoroughly enjoyed Barret's quirky character, especially the way he and Cloud played off of each other. Funny stuff.

My favourite BarretxTifa moment would have to be either him pulling her back after Cloud falls, Barret rushing to Tifa after she falls during the escape from the Northern Crater, and his "some kinda lady" comment. ^_^

What I love about FFVII is that more than any other FF, each individual character was important to me, not just my favourites, and they all affected the plot at various points as well, but none of them are perfect. Barret is a great example of this. His worst quality isn't that he has a temper, or is a bit too impulsive, it's his hypocrisy (eg: mass-murder is fine so long as he's doing it and not Shinra, it's alright if Midgar is trashed by Diamond Weapon, just as long as Marlene is okay etc...); how it isn't really about the Planet for him - it's about his personal feelings, Marlene, and his need for revenge. Those are some pretty serious flaws, but he still isn't presented as this horrible guy, and his flaws don't cancel out his good intentions, warm heart, and positive traits, but make him just as human as the other characters. Another thing I like about BarretxTifa is that if he was with Tifa, I think Barret would come to realise the error of his ways (regarding terrorism) because Tifa strikes me as someone who does feel guilty about the body-count she's responsible for. I think together they can learn that they weren't in the right and find a way to make amends.

As for Cait Sith, he may be very bizarre on the surface and maybe not the most useful of fighters, but I loved his personality. He's more than just a freaky amusing novelty character. Together with Reeve (who I think is great because of his moral stance - he cares about the people first and foremost and is against dropping the plate and blowing up reactors), he's a very interesting and well-developed character. He strikes me as a very sincere character, and I loved his confrontation with Barret before Diamond Weapon attacks Midgar, because he has such a valid point that hasn't really been brought-up previously in the game. He rox0rs my sox0rs. :fangirl:

Back on topic: BarretxTifa rox0rs too, obviously. ^_^

That's why I dislike FFVIII with such a passion. The only important characters were Squall, Rinoa, Ellone, Laguna and Seifer. That game had such a PLETHORA of awesome characters, but they were so ignored

Anyways, I really liked Cait Sith/Reeve also, but for all the reasons Hyper listed, so I won't say 'um again :D
