Okay, here's the thing: Zack worked for Shinra, yet Shinra sent the Turks after Aeris all the time. Aeris would have DEFINATLY told her big strong boyfriend, and he would definatly know who the Turks are and who they work for. Why didn't he ever protect her? Was he worried about loosing his job? He definatly could've taken them on, so why didn't he? Did Square just kind of forget about that?

LOL! Actually, people have wondered whether there would be something in BC about that... like a mission where the Turks are after Aerith and Zack tries to stop them or something. Cloud would have to be missing from that mission, though, or they'd contradict Cloud's first meeting with Aerith in the Church. :rolleyes:

And how serious were Aerith and Zack? Cloud asked Aerith in the playground if she and Zack had been serious, and Aerith said, "No... but I liked him for awhile". In Gongaga, Zack's mother asked Aerith if she could be the girl Zack had written home about, and Aerith says, "No... it couldn't", then walks out the door. If Aerith were still in love with Zack, wouldn't she say, "Yes!!" and start asking the mother all about Zack, wanting to see pictures of him and stuff? It makes me wonder about their relationship.

Remember, too, that Tseng had a thing for Aerith, and he was actually a member of the Turks.

I've wondered about that too... guess she and Zack really weren't that close! Oh well, she loves Cloud now!

I doubt their relationship was much at all. I think Aeris thought it was a big thing but with Zack being a "ladies' man" as mentioned, maybe he wasn't into it as much? And she finally realized that when he never came back. I can picture Aeris being so heartbroken over it since he was her first boyfriend. But she has had a few years to overcome that and realize it wasn't much of a relationship at all. Probably why she told Cloud it wasn't serious.

Also Zack's little comment about how Aeris's mom was gonna be at home and him being disappointed about it in Cloud's flashback was kinda playerish to me. I like Zack, but I don't think there was much to that relationship.

See, the thing is, all those times Aeris said it wasn't much could be interperetted as her hiding her hurt. In FF7 Dismantled, one of Aeris' monolouges mentions her hoping that Cloud could be another Zack at first. So, maybe Zack DID mean alot to her, but not quite the other way around. Hmm...

It's not one of those things clearly defined in the game. As Cloud's Girl pointed out, Zack's comment about not wanting to go to Aerith's house because her mom lived there does sound rather playerish. Aerith also says that he was a real ladies' man, and that she assumed he'd found someone else.

The monologue in Dismantled does say that she wished Cloud was like Zack at first, but she also goes on to say that she likes Cloud more now, anyway. It'd been five years since she saw Zack, which is like going from eighth grade to graduation from High School. That's a long time, and it appears that Aerith had put it behind her... especially since she says that she thought he found someone else.

Zack and Aerith's relationship could've been just like a fling... or a simple mutual understanding... ;) ...and then in time, she would be able to forget about it and move on...

I dunno, I guess that it just really bothered me when I realized that Zack didn't defend Aeris. It really burned me up actually :angry:

Zack has to know about the Turk's plan to capture Aerith right? Since he is first class soldier... Maybe that's why he left Aerith and never kept in touch with her again. Because if Shinra knows he knows Aerith well, they would make use of him to capture Aerith. Not wanting to hurt Aerith himself, yet not wanting to lose his ambition of becoming someone great in the Soldiers, he decided to leave Aerith for good...so it's kinda like he loves Aerith so he left her, but didn't love her enough to leave Shinra for her... and anyways it would have been quite hard to do that cos Shinra would probably track him down and kill him.

That is very possible! If Zack wanted to protect Aerith, the best way to do it would be to break it off. I think he was fond of her, but I don't really think he loved her, or he would have left Shinra and took up being her bodyguard, like Cloud did.

That's good reasoning, but Aerith said this to Cloud in Gongaga:

Aerith "I think it was 5 years ago. He went out on a job, and never came back."

The Nibelheim Incident was five years ago, so the implication is that Zack and Aerith were together until Zack left for Nibelheim with Sephiroth and Cloud. Zack was captured by Shinra after the Nibelheim Incident five years ago and kept in captivity for five years, so it was Zack's imprisonment in Hojo's lab that caused him to never come back.

Well to be honest I believe Zack simply forgot Aerith. He seemed like the kind of type that just likes to have fun. And let's face it, in the village (or whatever you want to call that place) where Aerith and Zack lived there weren't that many people to begin with, so you couldn't really choose who to be with. You're either with propably the only girl in the village (Aerith) who is close to your age or you're alone.

Besides, would a person who really loves someone leave for a job like that, at least that's not my idea of love. Zack isn't really the long-distance relationship kind of guy at least not in my eyes. :rolleyes:

Awww, I liked Zack..he seemed to care for Cloud so much..besides he said when he was on the truck he needed to meet someone in Midgar or something lol XD

now that you said it, Aerith, I did feel that Zack loved Aerith but he wasn't able to go back to her cos he died! Wahhh this is depressong.

Exactly! I absolutely would love to see how their relationship was, I think it was cute :) if Zack was alive I would probably be a Zack x Aerith fan..because they are SOO romantic together :D

I agree actually. Because if you remember when you first meet Aerith's adoptive mother (I forgot her name x_x), she said something like "Aeris doesn't need her heartbroken again" by another SOLDIER or something.. So it shows that she did care for him. She was probably just saying it wasn't very serious (or maybe it wasnt 'serious', but she still felt strongly towards him).

The thing is, we don't know how much Zack cared for her. I think the only time we see him mention her is on the truck? And by that, it seemed like a casual thing to him, like seeing her isn't very important..How I see it is that Aerith fell for a playboy type guy, but him being the type didn't think of her so seriously.

Back to the topic, I think that IS interesting...why didn't he help her? :(

After trying to rake up my memories of FFVII, i think probably the soldiers did not know of the Turks mission. The turks are kinda like those secret underground group of the government that do stealthy things that the normal legal soldiers wouldn't know of!
Afterall, Sephy didn't know about the details of the Jenova projct and all right? He is first class leader! Yet, what he knew was just very superficial and often distorted facts. :ph43r:

Well, Zack and Aeris never had a serious relationship, if you remember when Aeris is talking to Cloud in Sector 7, (I think?), on the playground. Cloud says, "You were serious?" and Aeris said, "No, but I liked him for a while." I don't think their relationship was deep enough to get too involved in each others affairs. Also, Aeris could have been hiding, at that time, because, the Turks weren't contantly after her. When they tracked her down, they chased her, but she was safe for short periods of time, and this could be when they were dating.
