Final Fantasy VII: AC DatedThe "sequel" we've all been waiting for hits Japan in September.
by Anoop Gantayat
May 9, 2005
- It seems like we've been waiting for years to see Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII follow-up in full form. Well the wait is at last over. Producer Tetsuya Nomura has announced through the official Shinra Electric Power Company website a final Japanese release date for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Following months of delay, the video-only release will hit Japanese retail on 9/14/2005 carrying a price tag of 4,800 yen. A limited edition version will be released at the same time, with pricing to be announced.
Work on the film seems to be winding down. Nomura reveals that all rendering is complete, and all that's left is the film's audio component. The audio is expected to be finished at the end of May, with synching starting in June, and the final preparations and editing starting in July. Promotions and production will start in August. Nomura promises that there won't be any more delays.
Nomura's announcement makes no mention of format for the movie. Square Enix and Sony Computer Entertainment have previously announced Advent Children for release both on UMD and DVD. Should one version arrive before the other, you can be sure we'll report it right here.
We're expecting further news on Advent Children at E3, including some hints on the US release. Stay tuned!source:
IGN*Fury Brand* - I'm going to edit your topic title to say we have a release date! :woot: Thanks for the information! :D
Buhon - May 10, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
Excellent!! Finally a confirmed release date (for Japan, at least). Too bad it's September and not sooner, but better later than never... and I want Square to take its time and not rush the product! Even if Buhon's patience is running thin... lol

The Babelfish translation of
Fury Brand's article said this:
"As for FF 7 AC the Japanese-American simultaneous sale?" They seem to think that SE is aiming for a simultaneous release in both Japan and the US.
The article I quoted from
IGN says that SE will probably announce the release date for the US at the E3 Convention (May 16-20).
Clorith - May 10, 2005 02:21 AM (GMT)
Darn that Nomura. Summer, SUMMER!!! :P
Oh well, at least it's not next year.
Seii Monogatari - May 10, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they released them simultaneously. They know that we would find out the plot from translations online, so they might release them at the same time after all. ^_^ (But I'm not getting my hopes too up. -_- )
Anastar - May 10, 2005 03:16 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't be surprised by a simultaneous release, either. If they release it in Japan first, we'll be getting video, script, pictures, downloads, and all kinds of info about it. SE is probably afraid of people downloading it instead of buying it, too. They can avoid that most easily with a simultaneous release.
We'll just have to see what they do.
Materia Thief - May 10, 2005 05:48 AM (GMT)
RELEASE DATE~~~~~~~~ :fangirl:
YAY! ^_^
I wouldn't be suprised, with the high amount of pirating that goes on and all. :/
Sefie - May 10, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
*takes a deep breath* SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
A RELEASE DATE! THAT MEANS IT REALLY *IS* COMING OUT!!!*dances*
I expect a simultan-uh...can't spell that....anyways. I've been expecting one because, like Aly said, we'd just get it in some illegal way over here

I'm curious though... regardless of how they initially release it in September (Japan only or simultaneous worldwide release), do you think they'll release it in DVD and PSP format simultaneously? I can see Sony trying to pull strings to get Square to postpone a DVD release date so that the initial release would be in PSP format only, in order to get some much-needed cash flow to the product (from what I understand, PSP is flopping...). I hate to add the possibility of an additional downer on the eve of finally getting a solid release date, but it was just mulling in my head. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Honestly I haven't as none of the people in the shops that I know have much idea on it
either. All they tell me is that it's coming out soon.
As excited as I am about it coming out, I somehow have the feeling that they're gonna delay it even more.
Yukari - May 12, 2005 08:42 PM (GMT)
Nomura did say in his press release that there'd be no more delays and that they were finishing it up over the summer, so hopefully the release won't be put back. :crosses fingers: Of course, being in Europe, I'll most likely have to download it or import a copy, but I'll be sure to buy it whenever they choose to release it over here, naturally.
Lost Mercenary - May 12, 2005 08:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah. same here. It takes the piss that the USA gets it the same time as what Japan does and Europe doesn't.
WHY ARE WE ALWAYS THE LAST TO GET ANYTHING ROUND HERE??? IT'S NOT DAMN FAIR I TELL YOU!!!
Well... screw Square Enix. I'm gonna download it. Oh shit... you all heard me. Where's my amnesia ray gun? <_<

Simply because europe just happens to be one big mess of languages, which makes it difficult to translate movies, games, books and pretty much everything.
If only english translation would be enough for all the countries here, but that is not the case. <_<

IGN seems to think that, if anything, the DVD will come out before the PSP. From
IGN:
FFVII Advent Children Gets Simultaneous Worldwide ReleaseSquare Enix will give us an English version on 9/14, but there's a catch.
by Anoop Gantayat
May 12, 2005 - Last week, Square Enix revealed a final Japanese release date for Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children: 9/14. Today, we learned some good and bad follow-up news.
First, the good. According to the latest issue of Japan's Shonen Jump magazine, Square Enix plans on releasing the title simultaneously in America and Japan. That's right -- no waiting for an English version! You'll get to enjoy the movie on 9/14, along with the Japanese.
Now for the bad news. The magazine only lists the movie as a DVD release. There's no mention of a UMD release. If you were waiting for some kind of Final Fantasy to grace your little black portable number, you might be out of luck.
What this means for a UMD release is unclear, but until Square Enix announces otherwise, plan on picking up Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children on DVD first in mid September.Source:
