Title: Giggles Of Pain
Description: Beginning of a fic I'm makin'
Everchanging - April 30, 2005 10:25 AM (GMT)
Hey there!!, I've began to make a piece of Aeris fanfiction. And its supposed to be Aeris making her journey to the temple of the Anchients whilst thinking back on her life and her realtionships. Its mainly CloudxAeris, but there will be small hints of Aeris and Tseng, and Aeris and Zack. I plan on having her meet other famous characters in the game too.
Well, anyhow, I'm going to put the start of it here, and ask what you think of it, and if you have any ideas for scenes that you think would be cool to put in etc.
Disclaimer: Square owns alla this, everything!-I’m just borrowing their characters to screw around with.
Author’s note: This is just about Aeris thinking back on her life. It will pretty much deal with everything, from her past to her relationships with the characters.
Giggles of Pain
By Coco
Because behind every giggle lies a shot of pain
“I can’t believe this, what am I doing out here”, Aeris wobbled a bit on her feet as she climbed up the tree. The branches scratched at her delicate skin. The air was so cold, the girl shivered, partly from the wind, partly from…
'What if this doesn’t work Aeris, hur?', Aeris shook off that thought, now was not the time for any self doubt, if anything, now was the time to push herself, now was the time to really believe in herself like she never had before. Aeris swung her leg over the branch and sat, her back slouched against the gritty trunk.
‘Phew, finally’, the girl gasped for breath. Aeris hated being so dainty. It was true that in the slums she had learned how to use her brains so she never really had to rely on her fists, her quick, silver tongue, could pretty much talk her way out of any situation.
Aeris giggled at a certain memory that came to mind.
Yeah-it was true, she did know how to throw a punch, you had to learn, living in the slums and all. But real physical stuff, Aeris stunk at, she just wasn’t built that way, she wished sometimes she could have had a teacher like Tifa’s friend Zangan. Though she was never really the fighting type, self-defence was all she needed, and a rod sufficed in that.
‘Tifa…..’, Aeris’ eye’s squeezed with water at the thought of Tifa. They were such close friends, Aeris blinked back and starred at the sky. Their conversation before she left got pretty heated, but how could she blame Tifa, most of what she was saying was true anyway.
Aeris moaned and stretched her head back against the tree trunk in frustration. Her hair was mangled by this point; battles had become so bad on her way through the forest outside bone village, that once she got inside bone village, she rested for most of the day. Even now she still needed a rest, leaning into the tree for comfort inside the Ancient forest.
The Ancient forest was beautiful; Aeris let her eyes wonder across the green meadow. The cyan sky shinned shades of blue through the smoky clouds. Aeris smiled gazing upwards, her emerald eyes lowered in a trance at the nature that snuggled her close within. She could imagine a day like this, him leaned against her tiredly, he’s hot breath sinking into her neck, sun and chestnut hair sharp and wavy mixing beneath the umbrella of vibrant trees, huddled close yet competing for the same sky. She’d probably have tired him out from the day, gotten him to giggle a bit, have some silly, childish fun.
Aeris grinned at herself, Tifa was a romantic, Aeris remembered. She told Aeris about her fantasy-being saved by a knight in shinning armour, like a princess, she must have loved her dad and her friends and family very much, they probably treated her like princess, their special little princess, before they died and left her to the harshness of the world.
The girl sighed. Perhaps Aeris was a romantic a little bit too, but Aeris was for certain not going to wish for any knights to save her, she didn’t want anyone to save her, to fuss, and although Aeris was dainty, she was no princess, there were no princess’ in the slums.
Yes Aeris was definitely more the dreamer, sometimes Tifa would shake her head and exclaim ‘Aeris you’re such a dreamer, always talking ‘bout tomorrow’, it was certainly true as well, she always had her head in the clouds, thinking about the good things in life, hope, how beautiful and lovely everything was, just dreaming, 'what if's', 'I wonder', just analysing, watching, dreaming.
The blinding sun pieced through the lush leaves of each tree, transcending into earth like holy signals, calling from above. “Yes, what if I took you out for some fun, we could laugh and we always get along and have a giggle at least now and again.
And then we could go somewhere quiet, I know sometimes you like to be alone now again, a nice quiet spot where no one will watch you or judge you. I see the looks they give you, and I don’t blame them either you know, Cid was really freaked out in the temple of the Ancients when you went a little crazy in front of that mural of meteor. Hehehe, I said everything’s alright, I didn’t want worry. There’s always so much worry. I like quiet as well too sometimes. I love nature; we could walk alone at night, talking, then relax against a tree, and fall asleep together. Maybe on our next date, a proper one, I want to get to know you better, Tifa’s known you since you were a child, I want a turn. I want to get to know the real you, what do you like, your favourite colour?, no one can guess mine, hehehe, it’s violet”.
‘What!, you think you have a right to do this!!’
‘This is what I have to do, don’t you understand!!?, of course you don’t, move out of the way, now!!!’
‘Oh so now you’re true colours shine through!!!!’
Aeris let her eyes drift shut, let her thoughts wonder.

Giggles of Pain CII
By Coco
Because behind every giggle lies a shot of pain
Pins and needles were a very underestimated pain.
When it constantly stabbed fickly at tiny feet without a real ebb, just flow after flow after flow. It was pretty much miserable. And it was all because the nasty floor was always so cold. Icy, practically.
Sleeping wasn't much more welcomed than pacing anxiously either.
Perhaps it was worse.
Because than, there would be the nightmares, waves of voices melding into a morbid tune, a tune stormy enough to rival the angriest sea. Then there were the monsters, fictional boogie creatures that would hungrily gobble you up.
And if that wasn't bad enough-then the were the most horrifying dreams of all, the ones that mocked at vulnerability and took pride in replaying the worst of the past, echo's of screams, needles, that nasally, hissing voice that dribbled into your ear. (Cringe).
Sitting would have to do for now than, no sleeping-defiantly no walking. Just sitting. So she simply sat, and starred at the bricked glacier beneath her tiny unclothed feet. And waited. And waited. And-
"Oof!!"
"Mommy!!!", the little girl scrambled over as the hapless woman was shoved into the dismal cell and fell to the floor. Her hands and knees almost crunched from the impact.
"Urh...!" the door slammed shut, and the little girl stood nervously in front of the newcomer, who was knelt, sitting on her feet, hands gripping the cloth at her knees.
"Mommy?"
The woman had barely moved an inch since her arrival, her head was bowed low, trembling slightly, showing awareness that the little girl was extremely close, was gazing down with hot emerald eyes. Sweet and bitter hot emerald.
"Mommy?", the girl repeated again, softer this time, lined with, pity, worry.
Ifalna finally lifted her head dizzily , eyes scrunching to hold the gaze of the mournful face, crinkled with desperate despair. It peered at her longingly, so very longingly.
"Aeris?", the girl couldn't be any older than five, 'yes, your my daughter, my precious little Aeris, I-I remember now, your my-'.
"I'm your daughter Ifalna, the last Cetra"
This was Aeris' mother, or what was left of her, Hojo had suddenly become impatient with his research and experimentation a while ago, his tests on Ifalna had taken a dramatic increase in both number and intensity.
"Gaud that face, I can't believe after all these years I can actually remember that face"
Aeris could barely remember her proper mother anymore, that woman was fading from view, the visual of the shell before her was only reminiscent of the warmth that once existed. Ifalna was just too delicate, too kind, too.....weak to take this pressure.
"Hmph that's how things were back than, I wonder if anyone would believe me. Hahaha, perhaps you would, be the only one who would understand. After all. Cloud. But than again I know that you-"
Ifalna didn't reassure Aeris anymore. She'd disappear for endless minutes-hours than return to hapless purgatory once more. Blood, bandages and new scars welling up on her skin.
Weep for hours on end, than sob, than sleep-that was Ifalna now. Often she'd look right through Aeris, as if she were nothing, absolutely nothing at all.
"Nothing at all"
The same as the dead limp air which suffocated them both. If Aeris was lucky, however, she sometimes was entreated to her mothers touch, a harsh touch now, defensive, dipped and soaked with whimpers and out cries as she'd violently bat her daughter away, as if she was a disease, a filthy plague, another inhumanity, more nightmares.
The pale, haunting shell had one mind set. It was wanting the hurting to stop, it was wanting to cry and hoping the suffering would slip away like the never-ending tears did.
Her glorious hair no longer framed her face, or hugged her daughter's body like it did when they once shared contact, it was wild, puffed like brunette candy floss at times, untamed, like her shivering body, her darting eyes. And the crying, the breakdowns......Aeris wondered if she mattered anymore, they'd take her away too sometimes. It wasn't as bad for her as her mommy. But she didn't like it at all. Not at all!
The sound of bleeping, cold hands running tentatively over her small frame. The simmering giggles as she felt that hot red liquid slid over her flesh. Was she too young to hope that the scalpel would one day slip?, miss it's desired destination and cut through skin, the skin at her throat, or her wrists? She wondered what death felt like. Dying, freedom, 'that's what I want, I want death, I don't want those cold hands anymore, touching me, I don't want to hear someone laughing at me when I cry, I don't like the pain-please-no more pain-no more knives-no more blood-no more mommy sad-please-just let me die-please, please-no more'.
Suddenly, Aeris heard a gut wrenching sound, it broke her out of her melancholy thoughts. It was the sound of sadness, the sound of lost dreams, a sound that Aeris almost wanted to spit on as she vowed to never replicate it again.
Her mother was crying, again.
____________________________
"Please don't cry mommy, it's alright, don't cry, no ones coming anymore, we're safe mommy", little Aeris blinked surprised as she realised that her her mother was mumbling yes, but was fast asleep. She looked like a dead angel in sleep, sprawled on her back as though she had been speared there. Her beauty still seeping through despite the tragedy now wedged into that picture. The little girl wondered if she would live and grow up to be as ridiculously pretty as her mommy, she was so small and her hair was so pale, almost blonde, listless. She didn't like it much. Aeris rubbed her knuckles into her eyes standing, only to realise that the door to the cell was open. It was OPEN. That couldn't be right, she wasn't sure what to do with her mommy sleeping, and no doubt the evil man with the keys who sometimes visited mommy on the odd night would return. She hated him. Aeris wondered if she was to young to hate as well. Hate the sounds, of violence and pleasure mixing on those occasional nights.
"I didn't mean to", there was so much misery in that voice, Aeris couldn't help but be drawn to it. Quietly the little girl crept through the large wooden door and peeped round, there was so much darkness, and silence save for that deep choking sob. There was a window too, wistful moonlight poured through revealing a small figure sat down, head on knees in the most saddest little ball. Aeris jogged over, the brick floor sending spiky electricity through her feet. "I didn't mean to", a boy, she was sure it was a boy now, he sobbed.
Blond hair, pale and silver against the moonlight. Pastel hands gripping that hair with cruel strength, he seemed to be trying to muffle his sobs via clenched teeth, but he's mouth was traitorous altogether as he gave up and wailed. Aeris now positioned like a stalker, silent and watchful before the boy. Glared. She hated that sound. Born compassion, and nurtured seething hate conflicted, her gaze was empty as she mechanically called out to the boy.
"Why are you crying like that", the boy jumped and gasped. Obviously traumatized by her sudden appearance, he swirled his head around in all directions,
"It's only me", Aeris replied just as neutrally. My, the boy looked about 7, but seemed so young. 'How old am I than', thought Aeris grinning a bit, she swore it was 5, but couldn't quite pin it.
The boy was clearly still shook. Aeris peered into him, a comforting glow piercing his fear until a soothing calm swept over him, not a permanent complete tranquilly, but enough to stop the shaking. He's wide oceanic eyes couldn't seem to look away, despite the unnerving paradox that gaze caused. Aeris rephrased but with an adult like kindness, and an actual-smile.
"What's wrong?", she nodded, "It's okay, you can tell me, I won't hurt you"
"Are...you an angel?", now little Aeris giggled, she shook her head, "no, I'm not an angel, but I think my mommy is"
"My mommy was an angel, but she didn't like me and left",
"Mommy's can be very silly. I can be your angel, if you like", the little boy simply blinked puzzled, "I would like that. I don't have any angels, my daddy hates me", the blond lamented. Aeris was surprised that she didn't notice it before, but now she could see it, the silver light glinting off cuts and bruises on his arms. 'Who did that to him?'
"I'm hiding", he whispered, "It'l-It'll get w-w-worse if I go back up tonight, in, in the mourning they'll be people, s-so he'll have to leave me alone, for a little while", he cringed at the thought of whatever punishment he was expecting to be crushed with. And the boy did look like that-crushed.
Aeris started. 'Footsteps!!', the clacking getting ever closer, and closer, "they've come for me", panicked the blond, dipping his head back into his arms. Little Aeris shook as the darkness suddenly become monstrously encroaching, the footsteps a reverberating echo which lynched her ears. Clack, clack. The guard appeared and starred down at the occupants on the floor, an evil gleam evident beneath his dark helmet.
"Woh!, jackpot!", he cackled, "the president was all in a knot trying to find you, sheesh what a place to hide!!, I mean, Hojo's creepy holding cells", Aeris quivered inside the cell. "Ah shit, left the door open", he slammed it shut and locked it, leaving Aeris with the tortuous sounds of whimpering and a rife struggle, which soon faded, evaporating along with the sounds of hope. Where angels did't exist. Only pain.
____________________________
Aeris plucked a lonely leaf from the tree. Finding the veins that intermingled beneath the surface a sweet fascination against the ache in her heart. A laser of soft light seeped through the sea of trees and sparkled on that leaf, that one small waxy leaf, so defenceless that the run of her fingernail would be enough to pierce the run of those delicate veins, 'we're all fighting for you, you know', the leaf never answered her, merely bent in the soft gale between her fingertips, 'Gaud, Aeris your talking to a leaf, you've really lost it now',
'I always talk to leaves, love makes things grow',
'Hey Pocahontas, it's dead now, you killed it" Aeris answered her reprimanding thoughts irritated by them, 'Oh hush!' she smiled to herself, 'it's given me inspiration, it'll live in me now, and return to the planet to become something beautiful' Aeris gazed down dizzily at the grassy ground, 'my, I did get a bit adventurous didn't I', she didn't like the look of that drop, 'Oh come on, you've survived Barrets snoring when you had to share a room with him at that inn', Aeris frowned,
"Yes, no time to be scared of potential disablement",
Aeris giggled at her silly words and thoughts and grunted as she made her way down the tree, the gritty bark dipping into her stomach as she slowly clambered towards the lush grass. With one last leap she landed ungracefully on her bottom, "oof!", 'okay, unless I grow wings and fly-no more climbing' she looked ahead at the light at the end of the forest, and for some strange reason. Only one thought came to mind. '......Who's Pocahontas?'
____________________________
'This is what you would want me to do, isn't it mother, you would want me to go, even with the danger, you sacrificed yourself for me back than, so I have to risk it, if it will make everyone happy, so it's not all in vain. Please understand Cloud',
There was something new in Aeris now, a new and vigorous want for a different kind of world. Freedom beyond the walls of the dreary cells, the daily tortures that she'd become as much accustomed to, as her own breath. The breath which swirled with smoky grace-'so cold'.
That mysterious little boy, the first time Aeris had ever seen a boy before, her age anyway, it lit a curiosity, a fire that merged with the desire to heal. To eliminate that horrible thing called pain. She was angry, she was happy, she was bitter, she was enlightened. She sneered at the darkness around her mother. The broken, once kind, once sad woman sat on the floor kneeling, her tear streaked face bobbing as the receding ripples of sobs pressed out from her chest. Aeris laughed inside at it, it was pathetic, not in comparison to her love, her hope. 'I'm not gonna cry and give into you!', she screamed at it, 'I'm not let you take mommy away either!, I'm not!, I'm not!, I'm not!!', she raved inside as she trudged over to Ifalna, feet smacking the ground in an excruciating march, the little girl however enjoyed the burn, the tingling, it urged her on, fueled her with every step. She walked towards her wretched mother.
"Mommy", there was no question in that light but determined voice, no uncertainty. It was the sound of an oldness trapped in youth. It demanded attention. It demanded it now. Ifalna slightly disorientated shivered at the small palm pressed affectionately against her cheek, the icy hand somehow warming her skin. But Ifalna was too scared, too scared, 'no,no,no,no!!', she didn't know where the feeling was coming from, 'no,noplease,no,no,please',
"don't be scared mommy",
Ifalna batted the hand away and shook her head, she just wanted the pain to stop, 'stop, stop, stop!', it never stopped and it hurt. "-and love and sweet too, than we will see what the sun looks like, bright, mommy, bright and-",
'mommy??, Oh my gaud!!, where's Aeris!!, where my Aeris!!?'
"I'm right here mommy", Ifalna snapped her head up, a little girl with a red mark on her cheek and the most brilliant smile, though the eyes were deep, calling, such wistful love glowing, and pretty hair blond browning, like caramel,
'I remember caramel'
Aeris nodded as Ifalna's shock subsided into total and utter anguish, Ifalna blinked, her face still a picture of tears and and red puffy flesh around her silvery green eyes.
She gazed dizzily at the red mark on her daughters cheek, ".....did...I struggle, did I do that to you?", the innocence embedded in that statement caused Aeris to smile more, so amused, Ifanla blinked again and gasped, the gleaming grin making the woman start.
Ifalna trembled again, but with awoken despondency as small arms encircled her neck, as the small girl leaned into her mother and stroked her hair, whispering, her voice like delightful vanilla. Swimming in her ears. "Mommy, I love you",
"Aeris....I-",
"Shhhh, it's okay mommy", Ifalna's arms gradually, hesitantly slipped around her daughter's, the warmth in that hug was overwhelming. Aeris hugged tighter, giggling joyfully, the sound like glass and twinkle bells. Ifalna gasped and wept painfully.
"I'm so sorry Aeris!!!!!!"
____________________________
Tifa was a picture of beauty, she leaned over the red bridge in Wutai, and smiled, Aeris gave the silliest smile back and hugged her Esuna materia. "Ha!, got my materia back!!",
"I can't believe Yuffie", Tifa moaned at no one in particular.
Aeris winked, taking on a sure tone,
"Don't worry, if she tries to steal our materia again, we'll send in Barret sleeping as a torture factor", Tifa gaped and hit Aeris playfully "Aeris!!",
"that would sort her out. Give back the materia and we'll remove Barret", both looked at each other, and both burst in girls giggles as Aeris now leaned against the bridge. Both girls now, suddenly becoming sombre, and quiet.
"Aeris?", Aeris turned her head to face Tifa,
"Yes", Tifa seemed thoughtful, Aeris frowned at that,
".....what was......what was your mom like...your real one I-I...mean", the half Cetra, gaped at Tifa now, but when Tifa gazed at her, searching through her green eyes the way she did, Aeris smiled starring down and holding her hand to her heart,
"Oh"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-you don't have to-"
"It's, it's okay",
"You never really talk about yourself Aeris", Aeris became sorrowful as Tifa's gaze continued to seek through her own,
"We're, we're friends now......aren't we?", Aeris nodded and giggled, "Of course Tifa, friends till-"
"The end", Tifa finished. They both became silent again.
".........Aeris?", Emerald eyes drifted to the waters, the gentle ripples that swept across them,
"My mother, well, she was a strong woman. It's because she was so strong that we escaped. Hmmm. I loved her, very much. When we were trapped, she was unhappy for a little while, but than", a snippet of bright hope cut through those emerald green orbs, and Tifa reeled, realising why she was captivated to search through them so often,
"but than, she sprung back to life again. She was-she was everything to me, when we were trapped. She'd tell me all about the outside world. She showed no fear, even when.....",
'even when she was bloody, even when the experimentation on me got worse, she always'
"she always was cheerful, for us both, she told me that my father was a wonderful man, she told me all about the Cetra, the promised land, she told me I was special, she-", Aeris turned her head suddenly as Tifa's hand clutched her shoulder,
"Aeris!?", Aeris nodded to affirm that she was fine, Tifa's heart swept in the emotion, the most torment, if any, she had managed to gather from Aeris, 'no wonder she never talks about herself'. Aeris turned back around to Tifa, a mysterious pensive expression on her face as she stepped closer to her friend and slipped a rebellious strip of hair behind her ears.
"I want to know about you Tifa. Tell me about your mom", Tifa nodded. "Hmm well-"

Thank's a lot everyone for the encouragement. I'm happy that you like it. ^__^ There will defintely be Cloud and Aeris scenes in the next chapter. Though I'm a bit annoyed the bit's I put in Italic's didn't stay that way. I hope you were able to tell between Aeris' thoughts in the presence during the past scenes, because those bit were meant to be in italic's so there wouldn't be any confusion.

I hope you figure it out...............Its a Great story keep going!!! :D
Everchanging - May 5, 2005 08:12 AM (GMT)
Yeah I think I'll simply put dashs instead of italic's as I'm never gonna get it to work. I'm happy with all the encouragement I'm receiving for this piece of fanfiction. I'm not really much impressed with it though-italso has a very abstract feeling too. Though that may not necessarily be a bad thing. Well onto the next chapter, and again, please tell me what you think. Should I continue, is it moving too slow, too fast.
Giggles of Pain CIII
By Coco
Because behind every giggle lies a shot of pain
"Aaaargh!!!", Aeris bounced a few times. Her body painfully rolled across the grass as the merciless tail slashed down over her, it's size was overwhelming, the speed was almost too much as she gained back her senses just in time to narrowly miss it. "Arghh!!" The power in the blow sent Aeris hurtling into a nearby tree, her back hit the firm trunk brutally, her head flying back into the bark from the blow. She ungracefully cried out from the impact flopping down into a tired and aching heap, "Ahhh!!".
'How did this monster reach so far into the Ancient forest!, I-I, don't know if I can do this!', Aeris breathed heavily as the itchy and sticky blood clutching to her arms glimmered beneath the light. 'No!!, no thoughts like that now, you have to get up!!, NOW Aeris!',
'I'm trying!!!'
"Argggh!!!", the black and purple patterned creature sneered, it's sharp teeth glinting wickedly at the weakened girl as she slowly clambered to her weak feet, body hunched and drooping.
Her eyes lifted up determinedly from her bowed head stance,
"What are yooou starring at ugly!!", the intimidating monster roared indignantly in reply,
Aeris snarled at the monster with an arrogant air,
"Oh hush!", she reprimanded, within a second the beast was launching itself at the hapless girl once again, voices of death began to mix in panic as Aeris leapt to the side, the creature snagging her rod instead and hurling it away with distain,
'don't worry, I'm fine', she quickly assured the ethereal mould of worried voices. 'I'm, fine now, just fine', she buckled slightly nearly falling backwards but regained her composure.
Aeris had been fighting the beast for a while now, her dainty body screaming from a throb that covered every inch of herself. 'I don't, know if I can do this alone', the brutality had sent a thousand words of doubt through her dizzy mind but she had tried to hold on desperately, even as she noticed the trickle of blood slid down her slim arms and drip into the fresh grass. Her ankle also protested by plucking a muscle string whenever she moved. 'I don't know if I can go on, it's hard', 'NO!!, don't be weak now, now is not the time!!'
"I'm, fine, I'm fine", she whispered like a prayer, Aeris was well aware that her breathing was ragged and her chest was stinging on every exhale, she squeezed an eye shut, 'urh, hurts', 'you're fine!!, keep fighting your almost there!!'
"I'm fine", she chanted, "fine",
The creature didn't seem to agree however, it's narrowed pupils spoke of promised horrors and cruelty, it looked flat out hostile and bloodthirsty, even for a monster. Aeris hissed and gripped her hand as she noticed suddenly that the creature had also snatched a chunk of flesh along with her precious weapon. It bled and stung, the girl grimaced as the cool air irritated the wound. 'Urgh, damn!'
"Roraghhhhh!!!!"
A fist of darkness hit,
'AERIS!!',
She snapped to attention,
'Cloud?',
Aeris turned just in time to catch the renegade monster attempt a forceful vault onto her bruised form from behind. Too slow, a new and vigorous strength surged through the half Cetra now 'I can do this!!!' and Aeris fluidly swept back, an almost holy gaiety enhancing her speed and moves, she skidded back gracefully, bowing low and clutching at her neglected rod in the process before coming to a stop. The angry creature landed not too far in front of her roaring furiously for having missed it's fickle target. Unhindered it instantly shot a barrage of fire pellets at Aeris, but as the hungry spits of fire rapidly advanced, cutting through the air, Aeris merely raised her rod. She twirled the rod between her nimble fingers causing the fire pellets to bounce off it and fly towards the monster. It growled futilely hopping back on all fours as the fire smashed into it's hard scaly flesh. From there she spread her arms like wings, a brilliant light surrounding her form as her hair danced in a rough celestial wind, she pressed her hands together focusing her energy,
"Fire!!", before shooting her arms towards the enemy, "haaaaa!"
the beast cried out choking as it's body singed with a mages smoke. It spun around whipping it's freshly burnt tail at Aeris in revenge. The half Cetra merely leapt over it swiftly whacking the creature as hard as she could with her staff, as it's body span round to face her again. It grunted at the pain, "Urarghh!!", Aeris dived out of the way whilst the monster toppled over and writhed angrily.
Aeris focused her energy once again, her brows meeting with resolve, 'Focus Aeris!!', 'Yes I will focus'
"Ice!!"
"Haaaa!!"
"ROARGHHHHHHH!!", that was the creature's last cry as it dissipated and disappeared, finally dead to the world. Leaving Aeris alone in the aftermath of it's screams.
'Don't tell me you feel sorry for it',
'I don't know, it's sad, that monster may have even be a human once. I guess it's free now anyway'
"Wah!", Aeris instantly tumbled to her knee's tired from the battle. Body shaky on her hands and knees. She gulped in as much air as her body would allow, her twist falling over her shoulder. Her vision kept blurring over. Emerald eyes widened in quiet shock, 'I, I think I over done it, it's hard, to breath', 'weakling', Aeris shut her eye's tightly gritting her teeth against that mocking voice, 'I am not weak!!', her eyes became hot with held back water which glistened and threatened to fall,
"no, please don't let me fall apart now" she whispered to nothing in particular,
'Cloud, was that you-was that your voice, I heard', Aeris started and looked up to see a flickering mirage of Cloud, yes, it was a mirage, translucent and peering at her with bright happy eyes, a smile so captivating that it couldn't be Cloud, could it?
Those beautiful elegant but wild spikes softly bounced in the gusty ancient gale.
The image kept blurring in and out, she couldn't quite focus on it properly, too weak from, too dazed to-.
Aeris's breathing became more desperate, lungs fighting for air, 'I can't, breath'. Her eyes squinted to capture the image, but failed. 'Cloud', she tried to reach for it, for him, with one hand.
Cloud smiling so heavenly.......
'Gosh, I wish you would just, I wish you would smile more often', those blue eyes seeping into her very being. Any blood or pain was forgotten in the mirage, lost in the Eden of that smile. 'Cloud?'
'Aeris', Cloud held out his hand and Aeris slowly raised her own, slipping it into the swordsman's palm. Things were getting blurrier. Suddenly the touch exploded encapsulating them both with eager spirit, bright white surrounded them both, until everything faded into a sweet light, than darkness.
The smile never fading.

"I think I can hear Aeris' voice. And, him. I-we have to hurry!"
"Always worrying-so different to him, no, your not the same-are you?"

Twittering, the sound of birds.
There was a strange green light shinning above many leaves, gaud the light hurt. Aeris opened her eyes, she was leaned against a tree. Gosh, she felt so drowsy, opening her eyes felt like a challenge in itself, 'don't open your eyes than', 'oh yeah I'm really gonna save the planet with my eyes closed. Should I also wear a sign saying 'vulnerable please deposit masamune here'', 'okay whatever pinkie'. She lifted her heavy lids and groaned tiredly, 'sheesh why does my common sense have no common sense'.
'Wait!!' Aeris jumped as she remembered what happened, she starred down at her wounds.
They were all gone.
'Did I heal myself?', the last she remembered, there were two beautiful blue eye's peering into her.
'Cloud!', Aeris smiled,
"Doesn't matter", she grinned,
She also wondered if she had time.
'I know I'll be fine after all. Can't believe I worried. I can handle it, yup!, I had that battle in the bag from the very beginning',
'Oh yeah and Tifa's really an A cup',
'Don't you ever say anything useful', 'I'm your conscience-if I can't say anything useful, what does that tell you about yourself', Aeris thought to answer that but decided to rest instead, still a bit sleepy.
'Ooookay, what are you doing'
'Well I can't connect to the planet properly if I'm all knackered!',
'Ooookay, no seriously', Aeris groaned, but smiled again as thoughts of a solider filled my mind,
"Hmmm, Cloud I can hear your voice, reaching out to me through the darkness. Don't worry"
/"What!, you think you have a right to do this!!"/, Tifa's words echoed almost hauntingly,
Aeris closed her eyes relaxing.
/"Muummmy!!!"/, Emerald eyes shot open.

"Muummmy!!!", Emerald eyes burst out tears, 'I said I wouldn't cry!, I said I wouldn't cry!, I said I wouldn't cry!!'
"It's okay darling", whispered Ifalna laboriously as she swiped a tear away from her daughters cheek, little Aeris captured that hand there with her fingers in no way willing to let it go. It obviously hurt Ifalna to hold her arm up, even with little Aeris' grip. 'It's not fair!!', Aeris gently let go of her mothers hand gently, as a woman in a green dress and apron appeared.
Tears still fell like rain from the little girls eyes as she heard her mothers final words, asking the ignorant stranger to take care of her precious daughter. Drawing her last breath the last whole ancient shut her eyes.
'I'll be free of pain now Aeris'
'I don't care!!!',
Elmya held the weeping child as each sob seemed to wrack her entire body like a knife.

"I want to know about you Tifa. Tell me about your mom", Tifa nodded. "Hmm well my mum was a very nice woman herself, she always played with me when I was sad, always made time for me-until one day she-"

/"Elmya has always been a good mom to me, I'll never forget-"/, Elmya had taken Aeris home, the girl had been distraught for days, even talking to herself, but overtime she calmed and the first thing Elmya noticed-was her energy.
"What's this?"
"Oh that's the T-"
"What does it do?"
"You turn it on and-"
"Why do you turn it on?"
"To watch shows and -"
"What's a show?",
"It's a programme that"
"What's a programme?"
"It's something with people in who act-?"
"Why are they acting?"
"To-Aeris!!-"
"Why are you mad? Ooooh whats this?",
"Wait Aeris don't touch-"
Smash!!!
"Oops sorry, ooh what's that?"
The girl also could talk for the planet. And talk and talk until she was blue in the face. That particular day was special for little Aeris though, because that day, she'd snuck out.
/"The first time I'd ever gone out, and I found two things"/
'Ommm my head hurts, wish they wouldn't make so much noise', little Aeris rubbed the side of her head grumpily, whilst flicking it in every direction imaginable. She barely kept her attention on where she was walking. The slums of Midgar didn't have a dangerous feel to them, not to a little girl trapped in worser hells. Instead it held an awe-like feel, big and overwhelming. Thick smog exhaled into the air, grey metal and a mixture of curious sounds. She didn't really like it, the metal grittiness of Midgar didn't have the beauty and love that home at Elyma's carried.
Her breathing was a tad more harsher too, eyes stinging a bit. Her fingers curled as the voices got louder, 'I'm sorry have I done something wrong?',
The body flew down into the ground with a thud, Aeris was glad she hadn't walked any further forward, she would of been, ploop! crushed!, just like that, 'what a strange place, it's raining men, I wonder if it rains candy?'
Nervously she crept toward the unmoving heap on the ground. As she advanced she noticed a chin length curtain of thin silky black hair dressing the unconscious face. It was a teenager. The youth obviously in pain but somehow still alive and trembling from the agony. Aeris inspected closer, touching distance as her fingers hovered over the boy. The little girl almost screamed out as to her surprise her fingers just began glowing, 'Uh what's going on!!?' she twisted her head to the side shutting her eyes as the soft glow seeped into the boy and a dusty wind gathered round them both. Another flash of light and the ebb of a humming sound.
'Is it over?', she turned her head back extremely gradually, nervous as the wind died down and the body seemed to have a pale glow that faded away. She gazed almost dreamily at the youth, the feather light jet black strips of hair fascinating to stare at.
"Urgh!, what's going on?", Aeris smiled,
"Hello",
"Yargh!", the boy sat up, but only slightly, he's palms etching into the ground behind him. He seemed confused and disorientated, starring around at everything as if he too, like Aeris had seen it all for the first time. The youth's gaze sharpened almost dangerously as he flicked it back on Aeris, dark hair falling into his razor deep brown eyes.
"Who are you?", he ordered, Aeris undeterred smiled graciously, a smack of amazement hitting the youth as she done so. The little girl knelt down and held his gaze, razor eyes loosing their edge as they drowned in hot emerald green.
"I am Aeris?, who are you?", Aeris touched the youth curiously, noticed that he flinched and watched her cautiously. Stray fingers played with his hair as it fell so neatly back into place regardless of what she done with it.
"Did you-help me?", Aeris felt such a great pain from him, so naturally slipped her arms around the youth, her small breath like a soft snore against he's skin. The youth couldn't quite keep a grip as he was swept under by innocence.
"You seem sad", the girl observed ignoring his question, she closed her eyes,
"You shouldn't have helped me, if you indeed did, Aeris, I jumped". Aeris suddenly gasped slowly stepping back to gaze at him. He looked like a wreck really.
"Jumped?",
"I was trying to die little girl. You know, death", Aeris nodded solemnly,
"Why?",
He shrugged, "I was moved here from a faraway place called Wutai, my family were exiled", he pointed to a dot in the middle of his forehead as he pronounced the word exiled. "They, got in, trouble with the Turks, I'm the only one left, the Turks are looking for me, I couldn't save anyone, no reason left to go on", the boy's expression became tragic as pent up pain surfaced into his razor eyes. He shrugged again.
Aeris carefully slipped a hand on the boy's shoulder, he started and turned he's head to her, the girl suddenly blushed.
"I-It's okay, everything will be okay"
"Aeriiis!!!??"

"I haven't felt your spirit yet Tseng. Where did you go?", Aeris thought back to the vision of Cloud reaching for her hand, the smile on his face.
"I said don't worry Cloud and to let me take care of things", Aeris giggled to herself, 'Cloud would have grey hair before he reached 25, blah blah blah worry, blah blah blah protect',
'Isn't that just another one of the reasons you like him?'
'Yep!', Aeris suddenly remembered that night, it looked as though Cloud was beyond worrying, beyond anything but anguish, and something else.

Anyone who said that Costa del sol was warm at night was a veeeeery sadistic liar, it was chilly like icy mountain air, cold, icy mountain air. The only warmth was the scent in this air, a musky but natural scent that was pleasant and warm. Two emerald eyes opened. They peered through the darkness. There was a sound too, a helpless whimpering sound. She shot up, sitting on her bottom and gazed around the dark moonlit room. Yes, it was Cloud's Villa they were all in, they'd battled so hard they managed to scrap enough money to buy it. It was decided they'd all sleep in the same room. A room down the hall with flat mattress' on the ground and cosy white blankets for each of them.
Aeris' emerald eye's flickered as she spotted movement in the darkness not to far from her. Defenceless pleas and whispers. She slowly lifted to her feet and crawled over to where the battle was surging.
She found herself position over their leader, who now looked like no more than a pitiful child, attacked by invisible monster, terrified and alone,
"Cloud?", Aeris whispered gently, she got no response other than a shrill whimper, so she kneeled beside the sleeping blond, her white night gown slipping beneath her. 'A nightmare?'
Cloud tousled the sheets with his miserable and constant turning.
"Plea-no I can't, don't-",
"Shhhhhhh", Aeris stroked he's cheek with her delicate fingers, gently sweeping away drips of tormented sweat. "It's okay, it's only a dream, nothing will hurt you, shh, it's okay", Aeris whispered in tranquil tones. "Hush now", Cloud seemed to be begging for something to stop, unshed tears clung to the edges of he's tightly pressed eyes. "Shhh", Aeris ran her hands through the tender ocean of sunny hair, slid her hands down down he's cheek once more. Whispering more, quelling the blonds nightmare.
"A-aeris?....a flower", the blond seemed calm now, a serene expression filled Aeris' face as she slowly gathered to her feet and stepped out of the Villa into the darkness outside.
The stars were rife and decorated the deep blue sheet with sparkling twinkles. She leaned over the wall outside of the villa, strips of chestnut hair spilling into her elegant face, swiftly dancing in the gale before her hot emerald eyes. She was thinking to herself, daydreaming really.
When unexpectedly, two cold hands rested on her chest, a presence was pressed against her delicate form from behind. She gazed up fixing hot emerald on an entranced mako blue. Mako blue which emitted a mellow glow above it's own glassy surface. It was unsettling to witness but also enchanting.
"Cloud?",
"Don't- don't go Aeris", Aeris smiled wistfully, 'so different',
"I'm not going anywhere Cloud", Cloud's bewitched stare fixed on Aeris' glimmered, he's grip tightened on her. The half Cetra shivered as a prickle of electricity surged through her-being held so hungrily-a childlike plea so desperate....
Aeris twisted in he's arms and starred up at Cloud, "it's only a dream Cloud, everything will be over soon, promise", the young woman beamed reassuringly at the sleep walker, as he attempted to draw her closer, leaning into her ear as mako eyes drew down heavy, and lids hovered half way dazed from the contact with fair silky skin,
he was mumbling something, whisper and words lost amidst a sea of holy touch, Aeris couldn't quite grasp the words, feeling weakened by the tingling of the hot breath sinking into her flesh, the sweet scent of apple dew kissing her. Aeris gritted her teeth bowing her head practically angrily, stray blond hair glinting in the silver rays slipped across her skin. 'No, I can't Cloud, wake up, please'. Her shaking hung head seemed to attract the blonde's curiosity. But by now the girl was struggling, she pushed Cloud back roughly breaking the embrace.
Cloud's eyes widened as he starred at Aeris who was babbling something distressed, she shook her head too many times, "too much..hurts..why can't!!!", and escaped. The blond remained behind, unmoving, frozen and alone, not looking particularly anywhere, simply exsisting.
"Cloud?!", Cloud snapped to attention, he's eyes blinking as he's gaze focused on a worried face.
"What are you doing out here!?", cried out Tifa as she instantly ran to Clouds side. He looked so lost. The blond shook he's head placing his head in he's palm as it began to hurt. Tifa, did not like that gesture at all.
"Don't know, I probably came out for some air I guess",
"We have a big journey tomorrow you have to sleep Cloud", Cloud shrugged,
".....You're right"
____________________________
"HA HA HA HA", Aeris jumped out of her sleep, the distant sound of cackling and the planets screams melding into each other. 'Gotta get up and go!!', "Urgh", Aeris climbed to her feet using the tree she rested against for support. She starred at the light ahead, and dusting herself off, she raced towards it.
'I don't have any more time for rest, no more resting now!! Gotta go! Don't worry planet. Here I come!'

That's the end of that chapter. It's not all that long I know. The next chapter is going to be alot more cohesive and chronological. AerisxCloud are going to be a abstract little unrequainted couple that pop in and out of this fic like corn in the oven. There's going to be Tseng and probably Zack in the next chapter. Tons of other stuff cropping up to. As I said before tell me what you think.

Everchanging - May 5, 2005 08:32 PM (GMT)
Thank you. This is mainly an Aeris fic, and so will just be her mainly looking back on her life whilst on her way to the temple of the Anchinets. But realtionship wise, everything will mainly be focused or will always come back to her and Cloud, their love is unrequainted simply because Aeris dies. But there will be a resolution in their feelings before she dies. Though I can't say anymore. It's simply I rarely see Aeris fic's. As I said before, I'm not estatic about this fic, but if you want me to post more than I'll gladly give this a go. It's very abstract at the moment, but please try to bear with me. And I hope you all like.
New Note:I will no longer be posting this fanfic here, for updates simply check this site
