Title: Shadow Image
Description: In Hobby Japan

Anastar - April 23, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
The June edition of Hobby Japan has published a "secret" picture in silouette that's somehow related to FFVII and/or AC. That's all I can pick up from a Babelfish translation of the article about it at FF7 AC Reunion. Is this a picture of Jenova? Is that Sephiroth to the side?

I'm sure that Advent Children.net will tell us more about it in the near future. I'll update this post when we learn more.

It looks like Bizarro Sephiroth (or is it Safer? Can't quite remember) The one where he has the one-wing? Uhh..I'll find a pic.

The one I was thinking about is safer:

But here's Bizarro:

You mean Sephiroth as the One Winged Angel? I thought so, too, at first. But after closer inspection, it looks more like a female to me. And why would Square put Safer Sephiroth in AC? Why would Safer Sephiroth be secret? FF7 AC Reunion seems to think it's related to AC, from what I can gather from Babelfish.

The top half, with the circlular object and the 'one-wing' certainly imply it to be Safer Sephiroth (a.k.a. the One-Winged Angel), however, you are right, that the bottom half looks off

The pic looks like it says: "From Final Fantasy VII:". So perhaps it's just a blackened render of Safer Sephiroth and a prelude to some new picture or scan?

I can't say though as the picture is way too small for any detailed inspection. Is there a full scan of the page available somewhere?

Anastar - April 23, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
That's the full size image of the scan. The scan is here: http://utsunomiya.cool.ne.jp/gamers159/image/hj0424-sep.jpg

That looks to me like AC Sephiroth on the left hand side.

Materia Thief - April 23, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
When I meant a full-size of the scan, I meant the whole page. Thanks anyway though. ^_^

I was thinking if we saw the whole page, perhaps we could get context clues on the identity, but you're right, it kinda does look like AC Sephiroth. If it is, in fact Sephiroth, then we can hypothesize that the 'secret' has some kind of connection to Sephiroth. Of course this is all conjecture, however. :)

Anastar - April 23, 2005 11:05 PM (GMT)
I meant that's the only image available.

Ye know, the ring looks different from Safer Sephiroth, too, although that could just be for the sake of design. The bottom looks very different, though. The face and body still look feminine to me.

I was thinking that could be a form that Jenova takes in the movie. It wouldn't be impossible for her to take a form like Safer Sephiroth.

Materia Thief - April 23, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
Ah, I see.

*Squints at the picture for about five minutes* The ring does look different. Bottom, as I've said before, does look very different. I can't quite tell about the face as it isn't very well defined, however the body...well...maybe if I squint some more.

Maybe it's just a new form of Sephiroth? A more powerful version of Safer Sephiroth? That one wing looks way too familiar...

Materia Thief - April 24, 2005 12:11 AM (GMT)
I was wondering that as well. What if he evolved to an even higher form? While it's very possible that it isn't Sephiroth, I can't shake off the whole idea of THE One-Winged Angel.

It'd be interesting if they did give Sephiroth an even higher 'form'.

It's about the next set of "Final Fantasy Creatures" figures which are supposed to be released in September. Hobby Japan, as far as I know having never read it myself, is a modelling [figures and statues, not fashion!] magazine rather than one you'd expect to find the lastest news on video games or the like. FF Creatures is a collections of figures of bosses and summons from various FF games. FFVII's entry in this lot is a secret, which is why it's blacked out. I don't really think it means anything important to AC.

Clerith-son - April 24, 2005 04:35 AM (GMT)
To be honest I think that the so called secret is Sapher Sephiroth. I don't have the slightest idea of why they might have shown it as a secret, but it's identical to Sapher. I think that we wont see any other form of Sephiroth, reather than his normal form (wich I think it's his most powerful).

Another idea, is that since Sephiroth is some sort of JENOVA clone, it would be normal that JENOVA might have a similar form. But as I feared in the game, any form that Sephiroth might take would be nothing in comparission to what JENOVA might (luckily for me, we never had to fight JENOVA as JENOVA). Maybe the one in that picture is JENOVA, but in its most weak form.

I guess I shoulda waited on you to translate before posting about it, Wilhelm.  Ah, well... it's still interesting. Why would they keep a figure of Safer Sephiroth secret, though?

Thanks very much, Wilhelm! :D

BTW, for all of you hungry for AC news, the E3 Convention will be on May 17th - 20th. SE has signed up for three booths at the convention, but they've yet to announce what they will be showing. We'll most likely get a new trailer for AC, though, and hopefully a release date. You can see more about the E3 Convention here: E3 2005.

Well, that makes sense, considering it's called "Hobby Japan" and everything.

Thanks for the translating job Wilhelm! ^_^

They might've blacked it out to build anticipation, to see who's in the line or whatever. Seeing how Sephiroth is one of the most popular characters and he's now in his signature "One-Winged Angel" form, I could see how it might 'head' the line. :)

YAY! I can't wait for E3. ^_^ I'm hoping that they'll have at least one booth for AC and one booth for KH2! :fangirl:

Maybe it's a hybrid? o_O; Between Safer Sephiroth and something else? The bottom isn't the same, perhaps.. But the wings could be rolled up.
