Title: Turk Turk Turk Turk

I wanna talk about the Turks in AC.

So far, what do you think of them?

I'm just amazed by Reno and Rude's loyalty to their boss. Especially Reno. I didn't think of him as the loyal type. Wheel Chaired Guy isn't exactly functioning as he should, and I think the Turks would benefit more if they forgot all about Turkship and left ShinRa behind foreverandeverandever. But they stuck by him anyway. Do you think they still get paid? Or do they have hidden agendas of their own?

And for the love of Mike, is ELENA GONNA BE IN AC?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Thanks.

I've always thought the reason why Rude and Reno are sticking around isn't so much out of "loyalty", as the possibility that they feel they have have nothing else to do with their lives. As Shinra's Turks, they were respected, admired and feared. Their job and their status within that job is really important to them. They've both been Turks for years, done many things we'll never know about for the sake of their job, and have been at it so long that it's become a part of who they are. I can see the job and rank of "Turk" itself being something that defines their sense of worth in life, especially in Reno's case, who may not believe that he can do anything else except fight and kill exceptionally well. So not knowing how to do anything expect be a Turk, they stick around. To me, it'd explain why Elena isn't there as well (and Jesus, when will she turn up in this movie?); because it's easier for her to move on (she's young, more aware of what else she has in life, hasn't been a Turk for long, less willing to put her life at stake for Shinra as it is now and can probably see more objectively that she has to start over), and that's exactly what she's done. Clever girl.

But I'm really interested in the idea that the Turks might have a hidden agenda, too! That has a lot of potential... ::pondering::

It was said in one of the Japanese magazines last summer that Reno and Rude are trying to reorganize the Turks. If they are trying to do that, then the Turks would either have to "work for" somebody or become some sort of mercenary organization for hire. The Turks were created to support the Shinra empire. If the leader of Shinra is still alive as the WCM, then it seems natural to me that Reno and Rude would continue to support him. As Hyper pointed out, it's been part of their definition as a Turk for years.

We also don't know how incapacitated the WCM actually is. The WCM seems to have full mental functioning, although he's hampered physically. I'm suspicious that the WCM doesn't actually have Geostigma. If the WCM is Rufus, then the blanket may simply be over his head to cover the burns that he received in the explosion rather than covering any deformation from Geostigma. The Healing Lodge would be a place where Rufus could recuperate from a severe injury in a private setting away from publicity with immediate access to state of the art medical facilities. It's never been stated that the WCM has Geostigma. Are we so certain that he has it?

As for Elena... a new female voice was heard in the trailer released at the last TGS (I believe). That voice was heard saying something like, "Hurry, Sir!" Many people thought that voice was most likely Elena.

I do not remember any others from FFVII who would use the word sir, at least females. So if it's not Elena I am truly surprised, as all the voices we have heard in the trailers so far have belonged to characters who were more or less significant in the game.
I do hope she has a part in AC, if only a small one as for some reason she was one of my favourite female characters.

Although that might be because I thought she was just so awfully cute. :D

And what goes for the Turks still working for Rufus..I see no reason why they wouldn't. As someone mentioned they need to be working for someone if they plan to get the Turks back on their feet again, and I am sure that despite what happened to Shinra, Rufus still has quite a lot of money hidden somewhere but only wishes to keep a low profile for now as I doubt the people love Shinra and Rufus for all he did. But he's just the kind of (cute!) guy who is prepared for everything that might happen. ^_^

According to Rude and Reno's profiles in Before Crisis, and based from my understanding, you shouldn't really judge them from how they were portrayed in the game (Final Fantasy 7) and how they would act in Advent Children because they're really loyal.
The Healin Lodge seems to be a hospital/sanctuary made especially for those infected with Geostigma... and to be able to get in there, you need to have lots of money. Rufus is a rich kid by birth, thus allowing himself to gain access inside the Healin Lodge.
As for his sickness (wherever the Jenova cells came from in his system, I don't know), it seems for real and he's not faking it. If I can remember it right, I could recall reading an article regarding "The Wheelchaired Man in the deepest stages of Geostigma..."
If ever he's faking it, well, he's such a good actor.

We have known Rufus in the game mostly from the point of view of Cloud et al but he is different (I strongly believe) in the eyes of the people in ShinRa, most especially the Turks. He was sent the Junon by his father (now this is true!) when he was 15 because he has different views from his father and Junon is like the military base of ShinRa. You could just imagine that this is the place where Sephiroth could've hung out before and also the Turks too. Considering that Rufus is the Vice President before, the Turks could be his personal bodyguards. As for Reno and Rude, they must've seen a side of Rufus that nobody else hasn't seen or encountered before that's why maybe they've decided, not just because of company loyalty, to stay and remain loyal to Rufus.

I don't know, they all just seem nice to me *sorry, I just tend to see things in a different perspective*

Well, it could be that the Turks have nowhere else to go, since ShinRa was their life, but I don't know.... do you think that they worked for Rufus because they had no choice, or because Rufus offered them the jobs, or because Rufus needed their help more than anything, or what?

Rude's the 'fiercely loyal' type, so I'm not surprised if he followed Rufus out of loyalty and stuff, but I've always thought of Reno as the indie 'go-with-the-flow' type of person. There's something about his smile in one of those released screenshots (the one where he was, I don't know, flying a chopper?) that had me thinking, "Oooh, ooh, hidden agenda! I knew it!" I wonder what he's smirking about...?

In any case, I'm dying to see them fight with Yazoo and Loz. :woot:

I think they're still working for Rufus out of loyalty to the company. ShinRa must've had good benefits for the Turks to get their loyalty. Heheh. :P
Anyway, I think it's really out of loyalty and kindness. Kindness in the sense that Rufus is ill and he needs someone to take care of him, so since the Turks are loyal, they decide to take care of Rufus.

Anyway, what's with the change of costume colors? In the game they used to wear those blue suits, now in Advent Children and in Before Crisis, they're wearing black suits. Any thoughts on why? XD

Aerith's_Man - April 20, 2005 01:55 PM (GMT)
Maybe they got tired of the blue...if you look at it everyone but Aeris(who is dead) changed their outfit. SO I am guessing that they all changed because they got tired of their old clothes. Vincent also kept the same clothes but that is just because he is weird. Unless Square screwd up and made it black trying to make it blue. And if you notice the clothes the people are wearing in midgar are like normal clothes that we wear so maybe they wanted to bring life into the movie and have people have a clothing taste.

Carmencita - April 23, 2005 03:09 AM (GMT)
Hahah, cool explanation. :P I just kinda thought that Nomura changed it to black to be consistent in his character designs in the movie--I mean, almost everyone in the movie's suddenly wearing black...
