Title: English Advent Children Site *story Link Updated*
Description: Opened by Square

Anastar - April 5, 2005 08:36 PM (GMT)
Square Enix has launched an English version of its Advent Children site. It can be found here: http://na.square-enix.com/dvd/ff7ac/

Currently the website features a trailer for the film, and a basic story outline. Many of its menu options are labeled "coming soon", which means the site is still under development. The source at MoDojo states that we can expect a release to UMD before the movie is released on DVD.

Cry if you have a phone modem (like me  ) because the site recommends the use of high bandwidth.

The story link on this site has been updated:

The story began in Midgar, city of mako, where a corporate superpower known as Shinra used its monopoly of mako energy to dominate all aspects of life, securing political power in the process. Shinras mako reactors dotted the city, harvesting the energy and converting it to a viable source of power.

However, mako energy was not the wellspring of happiness Shinra claimed to be, but rathr the vitality of the planet itself, the source of all life. Some began to realize: If we let this continue, the planet will die. These individuals set up an anti-Shinra organization called Avalanche, and begn resistance efforts using guerrilla tactics.

Finally, Avalanche decided to blow up one of the mako reactors. Among the member chosen for this mission was Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinraas elite guard, SOLDIER.

Cloud showed no emotion and was bound by no principles; he was an ex-SOLDIER, and a merc, and there was nothing more to be said. But apathy could not shield Cloud forever. The reactor strike awoke in Cloud the need to confront the holes in his past, and his very reasons for being. And that journey, perhaps, took the heaviest toll…

Two years have passed…

Though Midgar, city of mako, city of prosperity, has been reduced to ruins, its people slowly, but steadily walk the road to reconstruction.

However, a mysterious illness called Geostigma torments them.

With no cure in sight, it brings death to the afflicted, one after another, robbing people of their fledging hope.

And so Cloud, who walked away from life of a hero to live in solitude, must step forward yet again…

cheaply made? what did you do to yours? Mine still works like a dream, even with little kids running around!

Kaldea - April 6, 2005 02:54 AM (GMT)
Mine just gradually stopped reading my games and movies. And I care for my gaming things like they were my children. It happened to about ten other people I know too. <_<

Andina - April 6, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
Oh, it's about TIME they finally translated it to English. Although it does seem that the English site is extremely poor compared to the Japanese site...
At least they could have add all the trailers to the English site instead of just one that happens to be bit poor in quality. <_<

Well, let's all hope that they will keep working on the site until it's at least as good as the Japanese.

How odd, mine has been working without problems for years now. I did drop it on the floor once...but perhaps that is exactly why it is still working. What an odd machine it is.

*UPDATE* While announcing the opening of the Official English Site for Advent Children, SquareNet also says that Square Enix plans to reveal more major official news about its software lineup during conferences in Tokyo on April 13th and in Osaka on April 15th. Whether this news will include the release dates or other official news is unknown. However, Squarenet anticipates major news on titles such as Advent Children and FFXII at that time.

I'll stick with the Japanese one because it just has more info. Plus Japanese is easier for me than English. But I digress...

Clorith - April 6, 2005 12:05 PM (GMT)
Whee! Conference!! Thanks! *updates*

I finally got to see the site today, and I thought the animation at the beginning was interesting. It looks like an explosion of cells coming from the Lifestream, then the cells congeal into Cloud and Sephiroth. The DNA structure of cells is prominant in the background of the site, and you have to click on cells to see the different menu items. There was also those strands of DNA seen at the beginning of the last trailer. It seems odd to me that both Cloud and Sephiroth have their eyes closed. What do you think the significance of all this is?

The trailer is the old E3 trailer, but I thought Aerith's funeral scene at the beginning was a bit longer. Then it says, "Two years later". I think that's rather significant, too, because it implies that the death of Aerith has a great impact on the movie. Why don't they show the Lifestream approaching Meteor from the final FMV of FFVII and then say, "Two years later"?? This seems to imply that the events of the movie are taking place two years after the death of Aerith rather than two years after the events of the game.

Out of all the moments in the game, they chose Aeris's burial scene to show, hmm? I guess it has importance relating to AC in some way. I guess it's Aeris's burial over the all important Highwind scene.

Seii Monogatari - April 7, 2005 09:44 AM (GMT)
Yes, and who originally made that point? I believe it was Seii, wasn't it? :P

 Seriously, jah. No Tifa, no Meteor, nothing. It's either the Lifestream in the trailer or it's Aeris's Burial Scene that sums up the plot of Final Fantasy VII. They use that as their visual rep to trigger the game in the viewer's mind. Why could that possibly be, hmmm .. ?

Clorith - April 7, 2005 01:49 PM (GMT)
LOL!! Silly Seii. :P I like that idea, too. Explains the ribbons.

Well, I just checked it yesterday. So, some of the coming soon topics are now open. They added a second trailer to the trailer section. ( I think its the one show at the gaming expo...E3 or E4..oh one of those numbers... )

There's some wallpaper...(!#@! No aeris. ),
Character section is open.....(still no Aeris),
Updates and the like.

Though, I thought it was quite funny reading Cloud's profile.
