Title: Nobuo Uematsu
Description: Leaving Square?

Anastar - October 31, 2004 08:25 AM (GMT)
We don't really have an appropriate forum for this, but I thought many FFVII fans would want to know. Apparently, Nobuo Uematsu is leaving Square at the end of October or early November. It's reported that he announced this to members of his fanclub, and that it's been discussed in Japanese forums. It was also reported that the reason he gave for leaving is that he wanted to work at his own pace and start his own company. The news has not yet been confirmed by Square.

This was reported under News and Announcements at AdventChildren.net and at SquareNet.

NO!

I love Nobuo, I'm his fan and he is one of the greatest musicians EVER!!!

But that's not confirmed >_< so I hope he doesn't leave.

Awww.... Nobuo wrote such beautiful pieces for the Final Fantasy series... Oh well, as long as he doesn't stop composing his music. :D

Oh no!Final Fantasy wont be the same without him :( .

NOOOOOOOOOOO...FF usually had great music...what will happen to the great music in the future FF's?? Maybe with his own company, he'll still contribute his music to the future FF games? *looks hopeful*

I hope if he is leaving that he will contribute to FF from time to time. It was really conspicuous that he wasn't the composer for FFX-2 - there were some nice tracks (Yuna's Ballad, Eternity, 1000 Words) but nothing that really stood out like Aerith's Theme or Terra's Theme.

Oh, man, that sucks! :( FF just won't be the same without his beautiful music... :(

Mmm, Nobuo composed some incredibly memorable songs during all those years he worked for Square and I think it's safe to say that future FF games will be lacking something now that he will no longer be there. But when you think about it from his point of view it must have been quite stressing to work for a company such as Square that has grown to be one of the largest game companies in the world. And such companies have very strict deadlines. If they say that they need all the music done by next week, then you better have it all done or you'll be in trouble no matter who you are.

Besides, Nobuo has pretty much achieved everything possible with the past Final Fantasies he has been part of, so I suppose he might even be losing his interest in them. So I am sure he only wishes to try something new without having Square standing there right behind his back preassuring him to finish whatever he is doing at the moment so he might work with the next Final Fantasy even though he only just finished working with the previous one...

Nobuo simply doesn't need to prove himself anymore, he doesn't need more fame or fortune, I'm sure. So he can pursue whatever dreams he still has as a music composer and enjoy himself. So let's all just hope him the best and let's never forget what he contributed to the games we so much love. :)

But now now, have some faith in Square as they are very good in finding these incredibly talented people and they still have some of their old composers like the one that worked with Final Fantasy Tactics (I mean the origianl Tactics), I just can't remember his name at the moment... <_<

*Sigh* I really will miss him, but Adina had very good points. I hadn't really thought of him as a person yet, just a talent. The new composer will be good, assuredly, but it just won't be the same music. Ah well...*sniff*

Eternity-Knight - November 1, 2004 05:00 AM (GMT)
He was the most talented composer I have ever heard. I loved his music especially Aeris's theme :) . In my book he was the greatest music composer who ever lived and Final Fantasy will never be the same again. :(

*goes and listens to Aeris's theme repeatedly while wishing he wasn't leaving.*

I really hope he doesn't leave Square. His music so beautiful, it's one of the things that what FF is known for.

You mean like the music for FFX-2? God, that music was awful. "Real Emotion" and "1,000 Words" were good, but the BGM in that game sucked. How could they use someone like that? <_<

Well that...is just a matter of taste, Goddie-poo. I personally didn't find FFX-2 music that bad, but perhaps that's just me. ^_^
Sure, it was very different from the previous FF music, but still not that bad. And I think it fit well with the general atmosphere of the game that was bit more jolly than your usual Final Fantasy would be.

But of course I would much rather listen to music like FF6, 7 and 8 had. Phantom Forest is still one of my all time favourite song by Nobuo. It's so dreamy. *begins to dream*
