Carenado V-35 Bonanza
Reviewed by Ludo Lambrechts
The V35 Bonanza is a very unique and intriguing design. The uniqueness and the beauty of the V35 is its V-tail. This physical feature is what sets it apart from other aircraft on the market. Many people have fallen in love with the distinct shape that this tail presents.
Although beautiful the tail, it’s bound to be a challenge to recreate it for the flight simulator. But with Carenado’s expertise in aircraft modeling the V35 was beautifully recreated, and is a high-quality payware aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.
The first thing that stands out on this plane is its detail and quality on both the interior and exterior. All of the details have been included, such as the grills on the engines, or the bolts on the landing gear, everything is recreated perfectly by Carenado’s developers. With a program such as Active Camera you could walk around the V35 Bonanza, and see every little detail you would in real life, the detail is that great. The detail and quality of the virtual cockpit is remarkable as well. Using photorealistic texturing the virtual cockpit makes you feel like you are sitting inside the plane itself. This one is not short of “eye candy”.
The other challenge of recreating the V35 Bonanza for Flight Simulator 2004 is the flight dynamics. The V35 has very different aerodynamics due to its V-shaped tail. When flying this plane you will experience many different reactions, than you would with the traditional “straight” tail. With the physics engine that FS2004 uses it would be very hard to commit the changes involved with the V-35 Bonanza, but once again Carenado has come through and has built perfect flight dynamics. The flight in Flight Simulator with the Carenado V35 Bonanza provides the same challenges and feedback as the real V35 Bonanza does.
The other feature which adds to the beauty, realism, and appeal of Carenado’s recreation is the exterior textures. Although there was only one texture included, the quality and detail of the textures is astonishing. Carenado’s re-painters made a beautiful base texture, and from there on added great effects onto the texture such as dirt, smoke stains, and all of the marks and ripples from the weathering of the aircraft. Much time has been spent on creating the perfect texture, and in the end Carenado has come up with the perfect texture.

Again the question looms, with all of this quality how are the frame rates? The frame rates with the V35 Bonanza surprisingly barely take a hit, you might notice a difference of one or two but they remain relatively the same as with one of the default Cessna aircraft. Carenado has once again succeeded in making an aircraft high in-quality with great frame rates. This sets this add-on aircraft apart from other payware planes as most have good quality but do not perform very well. It is a joy to be able to fly this kind of quality with great frame rates.
The Beechcraft V35 Bonanza aircraft add-on by Carenado is a very worthy purchase. The price is very low; at only 17USD this one could be called a steal as you get superior quality, which you’d normally not get for over $40. The installation process is safe and easy, the aircraft will run on almost any computer, and it’s a blast to fly. I would recommend this product to any simmer who is interested in buying a payware aircraft. For all of their hard work, quality, and service I award Carenado a 9.8 out of 10 for their V-35 Bonanza.
Happy flying.
