Title: READ
Description: Time to get serious!

al_ - February 24, 2005 04:24 AM (GMT)
Ok now it's time to start thinking about things with a bit more depth.

1.) Occupation: http://www.roma-victor.com/game/skills.php]

2.) Strengths and Weaknesses: Muscle, Vision, Agility, Dexterity, Intuition and Stamina.

3.) Money: How much.

4.) Communication: Talking.

5.) Buying: http://www.roma-victor.com/verm/

6.) How will it work: http://www.roma-victor.com/sotw/

1.) Ok so occupation first, take time in choosing your profession make sure you know the positives and negatives of your choices, lumberjacks for example may be settled away from the village. Also take into account the sub skills of your occupation, a smith for example will have numerous tasks to fulfill. Although not completely finished this skill tree still gives you an accurate enough idea.

2.) These are going to be the skills you pick for your character before you start the game. Think about what your character will be doing, don't beef him/her up with muscle then discover you don't have enough stamina to fight longer than a couple of mins.

3.) If you want to become rich in the game then your gonna have to give some REAL dosh away, apparently 10 pounds a month will give you healthy living standards. However businesses, raiding and other such activities will cover the basic needs of players.

4.) In a perfect world we should all have headsets to communicate in game.

5.) How will you buy the game, have you thought about this aspect. The knowledge I have gained from the RV site suggests that the game will only be sold from there site(over the net). If it does get a commercial release it will probably be limited.

6.) Finally, have you read about how the game will actually work. Please take a look at the link and get an idea, don't rely 100% on forums for information.

EeSang - February 24, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
If we're supposed to be answering this then --

1.) http://www.roma-victor.com/game/skills.php
Looks Roman bias and it states 'What you won't find here: A complete and accurate list of the skills that will ultimately be available in Roma Victor.'

Anywho, the Skills I want-
Basics (Necessary...)
Farming- Groves, Livestock, Harvesting
Construction- Fortifications
Combat- Archery, Axe (Small)
Horseriding- bareback
Hunting- Skinning (Tanning), Tracking (People, Wildlife)
Cooking- Roasting
Animal handling- domestic

2.) Agility > Dexterity > Vision > Stamina > Muscle > Intuition

3.) I'm willing to spend up to $30(U.S.) real life money for sesterces.

4.) I think I can get us a Teamspeak server, possibly for free.

5.) I'm thinking of dl'ing the client, then buying an account key.

6.) I believe I'm the one who sent you that link, and I've read the whole thing. :P
http://www.roma-victor.com/sotw/

Honduras - February 24, 2005 07:48 AM (GMT)
1) My skills:
Basics tree (necessary)
pottery tree
carpentry tree
handcraft (but not all subskills)
treatment tree (healing)
horseback riding

2) This would be the best setup imo for a warrior- craftsman:

Stamina > Agility > Muscle > Dexterity > Intuition > Vision

3) Depends on my real life wealth, but about 20€ to begin with I guess.

4) Have headset, and worked with teamspeak before, but not much

5) I'll pre-order and get that 2 week advantage over other players, inclus a free 10€ sesterces.

6) I know how it works, I'm in beta :P

TB666 - February 24, 2005 11:35 AM (GMT)
1. Combat: Sword, long and all the skills for using a shield.
Music: Strings, maybe keyboard depends on how the system works.
Basic

2. Muscle> Agility>stamina> Dexterity>Vision>Intuition
3. None actually
4. Have a microphone but it is pure shit.
5. They have said that you will be able to buy it in stores as well so that is what I'm aiming for.
6. Yeah I have read it, can't wait to see it in action.

Lhorkan - February 24, 2005 03:49 PM (GMT)
1) Basic
Dagger, shortsword
Mining (iron, maybe copper)
Smelting (if it's needed to smith weapons/armour)
Smithing (blades, weapon-decoration, armour)
Deception also, thanks to Zelda I noticed it's essential for my task as brigand.
Maybe also horseback riding

2) Agility > Muscle > Stamina > Dexterity > Vision > Intuition

3) Hmm, we'll see.

4) I have a headset. If we would ever see us in-game.

5) Pre-oreder, probably.

6) I'll figure out soon enough :) I read the State of the World also.

zelda12 - February 24, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
1) Basic,
Archery, Axe
Smithing ( Weapons and Armour)
Smelting (Steels and Alloys, if we can get hold of Gold from any miners then I'll upgrade to that)
Horseback Riding (Mounted Combat/Horseback Archery)
Deception (Essential for raiding, Hiding and Sneaking)
Hunting (Tracking, Humans and Animals.)
Mining. Mainly for Iron and Precious material.

2)Vision>Agility>Muscle>Stamina>Dexterity>Intuition

3)Hell no, I'll make a small investment to start off with then I'll spend three months robbing and stealing and making weapons and armour or smelting Gold so I have a nice amount of money to work with for some time.

4)If it seems that many of us will be using it I'll buy a headset.

5)Pre-order probaly, but where on earth on the site does it link to where you pre-order. Help would be nice.

6)I read through the site but maybe if Honduras, being part of the beta, could set up a QA thread so any of us who have questions could ask them to one who has experience with the game.

6)

Capo of Arabia - February 24, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
Def battlefeild managment.
Definatly for me/
I haven't decided the rest yet. :ph43r: <-- love that.

Mordhak - February 24, 2005 06:14 PM (GMT)
1) Combat: Long blade, shield (=block), brawling (especially headbutting), archery, dodge&parry and finally, battle management

Other than that, I'd like to train some Deception, Horseriding en Basic (duhh...)

2) Stamina>Muscle>Agility>Dexterity>Vision>Intuition

3) I'll have to think about that first

4) Have got a headset and Skype

5) Pre-order, very likely

6) I too am in the Beta; that's enough I guess :)

We are not allowed to tell you anything about the beta, sadly :(

zelda12 - February 24, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
Oh well, when we get the game we'll be asking you and Honduras lots, and Lots, and Lots of questions.

Mordhak - February 24, 2005 06:18 PM (GMT)
Just ask Honduras; I'll have better things to do ;)

Honduras - February 24, 2005 07:48 PM (GMT)
Why you little...

Yes, you'll be able to ask me questions then. But I'll only anwser the good ones, so no noob questions please.

zelda12 - February 24, 2005 08:29 PM (GMT)

:D

I will ask no noob questions. I promise.

Capo of Arabia - February 24, 2005 09:49 PM (GMT)
rvs gonna be up 4 free right?

EeSang - February 25, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)

Roma-Victor is going to be €40 if you retail it, €30 if you preorder. Both come with €10 worth of sesterces. It's €20 to buy another account key, free to download the client but it doesn't come with free sesterces. I suggest either downloading or pre-ordering, retailing it would be a waste of €10.

€1.6 = $1... right?

al_ - February 25, 2005 05:03 AM (GMT)
My query is, what about the manual and what not you get when you by the game after its release. From what I can read, if you pre-order you get the game and thats it. Another thing, when you pre-order does that mean you still have to download it, or do they send you a disc. This is probably all explained on the site, but I don't have time to look right now.

$1 in what currency?

Honduras - February 25, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)
If you pre-order you'll get the account info, ect, first, the game box a bit later.

not that I need a manual or anything :D . just make sure I can log in and have the sesterces and I'm happy.

zelda12 - February 25, 2005 10:49 AM (GMT)
So have they not announced when we can pre-order it, as there's no links at the site?

Honduras - February 25, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
not yet.

Capo of Arabia - February 25, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
I'm confused.
Why would someone buy it if you can dl it for free?
Bah. This confuses me.

Xenophon - February 26, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)

Yes, it seems you are. You CAN'T download it for free, they intend to sell it like any other game and make their profits that way. However, unlike most interenet only games there will be NO monthly charge (ie 10 bucks a month to play). They hope that intial purchases and donations will keep the survers up... I pray they do.
Edit- Sorry, thats what I meant, you can download the program but you can't play the game until you pay for the account key. I guess this is so, when you unistall it you can still re-instal and play the game (without paying for it twice).

Anyways as for the first post:

1. Occupation: Diplomat (Head one right now), lore keeper (put on hold for now), Archer (horse back maybe).

As for RV skills well:

1) The basics, of course.
2) Combat- Archery (mastered)
- Sword (expert)
- Ballistics (maybe)
3) Construction (I'll see who else is doing this first though)
4) Deception (Depends on how much time I spend on RV, a likely choice though)
5) Horse Riding (master if you can fire and ride at the same time, decently or expert and ride to battle and dismount)
6) Lore (Dought I'm going to be a priest or what not, but who knows)

2. From greatest to least is: Intuition, Dexterity, Stamina, Vision, Muscle, Agility.

3. Depends on the prices ingame. Not much though... I don't have reason to have large amounts of money in my pockets. If you mean how much am I going to spend... well depends on home much a house costs and what my bank account looks like.

4. I don't have a headset, but I'm sure I can go buy one when the need arises. Besides, if the servers are half decent you'll likely tell me to shout up because I'm filling up the chat box too fast for you to read :)

5. If it comes to future shop in canada ill buy it there if not ill buy it from the site. see question three about payments after intial purchase.

6. I know the game well, I'm a beta tester after all. All I can say is that you will happy gamer when you log on to play it.

Mordhak is correct none of the beta testers can talk about the game for 3 years after its release, sorry.

EeSang - February 26, 2005 12:07 AM (GMT)
Actually you can download it for free, what you're paying for is the account key.

al_ - February 26, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
Thanks for clearing that up. Ok back to the original topic.

TB666 - February 26, 2005 12:22 AM (GMT)
QUOTE (Xenophon @ Feb 26 2005, 12:00 AM)

I pray they do.

Oh they will.
Look at Project entropia(sp??).
That is a totally free game and it keeps alive only with donations(it has the same system as RV where you can buy in-game money).
Recently someone bought a island in the game for 250000$.
And it is one of few game that can turn into a profit for you since you can turn the in-game money into real money.
Of course this will not happen in RV but it shows that their idea has worked in the past and there is no reason why it wouldn't work for them.

zelda12 - February 26, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
Hmm yeah you might even be able to make a living off of it. All you need to do is write a program that logs you in game then has you follow a set routine, so for smithing, you would continously make swords or armour. Have NPC's to get you Iron and the materials you need and then some to sell your goods. Leave the program running for ever and you then convert the money in game into secertes by seeling them on E-bay at a cut price. And then doing a weekly money transfer.

This would be highly illegal and I wouldn't dream of doing it, but it is a concievable way of doing it.

That is called 'botting'.

zelda12 - February 26, 2005 12:12 PM (GMT)
Yep. It's also highly insane as the chances of making any money when you minus the electricity and connection costs.

Mordhak - February 26, 2005 01:41 PM (GMT)
And chances are high that you get caught (=your butt kicked from RV for eternity and being thrown into jail)

zelda12 - February 26, 2005 02:00 PM (GMT)
Exactly, and if you could actually write a program able to do it then you'd do better to get a job at a software designer's, you'd get paid a lot more. I don't have said skills and never will. I would like to make lear that I would never, ever, do it. I was just making a point. I don't want anyone to get the wrong ideas.

al_ - February 26, 2005 02:25 PM (GMT)
Ok ok enough with the chatting, leave this topic for original question.

wOrSt NiGhTmAre - February 26, 2005 08:29 PM (GMT)
when is the official release date and when can we pre-order it?

EeSang - February 26, 2005 09:04 PM (GMT)
Commercial Testing starts May 2005, no specific dates for anything else was given.

wOrSt NiGhTmAre - February 27, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
Well, it sounds like we got some time to kill. I dont think i can wait that long though :barb

Bthizle1 - February 27, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
Ive been reall busy lately, so dunno if I'l be getting that right away. Right now it is hard enough finding time to post on these boards.

wOrSt NiGhTmAre - February 28, 2005 04:53 AM (GMT)
i've really only been able to post at night and weekends because of sports and school. I can see where you are coming from

Cpt.Wenis - March 5, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
1. Combat-sword two handed; construction-fortification, buildings; smithing-armour, weapons
2. Dexterity, muscle, stamina, agility, vision, intuition

Kaso - March 6, 2005 06:08 PM (GMT)
1)Combat-sword (not sure which one)
Possibly horseback riding
Battle-management
Basics
2)Muscle, stamina, agility, dexterity, vision, intuition
3)Not much
4)I've got a headset
5)ASAP I guess
6)I know how it works

al_ - March 8, 2005 09:19 AM (GMT)
Ok I will be the Guilds Carpenter, I hope to master this skill and become a valuable assest in doing so. Obviously I will train in combat regularly.

Skill Tree
Carpentry-All areas.
Hand craft-Advanced hand tools. (that is hand tools containing wood)
Combat-Sword-short.
Combat-Block.
Combat-Spear
Basic-Sense of Direction.
Treatment-wounds. (personal care)

Attributes(as this will be fairly major I will not confirm these)
Agility
Muscle
Intuition
Stamina
Vision

I will live in good conditions, with moderate to high wealth.

I'll buy a headset

Pre-order

Looking forward to the release, if it lives up to it's word Roma Victor will be a great game.

Icespy - March 8, 2005 09:48 AM (GMT)
Skills:
Treatment: All Areas
Lore: All Areas
Brewing: All Areas (if possible)
Basic: Fire starting
Combat: Short Sword
Combat: Parry
Combat: Block
Combat:Dodge
(Please note I don't have a clue how many skills it is possible to keep ready at once)

What does "vision" refer to?
Intuition
Agility
Stamina
Muscles

I hate headsets...but I can listen through the speakers and get a mic if needed.

I'll be pre-ordering this game.

al_ - March 8, 2005 11:55 AM (GMT)
Well I don't know what vision means exactly either. As for a headset, well a mic is all I really mean't, it makes gameplay so much easier when used.

EeSang - March 8, 2005 05:51 PM (GMT)
If you use a voice program like ventrillo or teamspeak it's annoying for the others when you use a speaker and mic combo because it causes echos.
