Title: Guilds And Npcs

Surfing RV board seeing whats what I found this little bit of info.

The term 'guilds' can be applied to all of the player associations in Roma Victor ranging from small exclusive cults, through whole barbarian tribes and right up to the awesome 6000-strong Legions of Rome itself.
 I knew that there was going to be a lot of npcs but I always figured the legions would be about 300-500 in size not 6000! And they said "Legions" meaning there will be more then one of these bad boys.
I suppose we shouldn't get too cocky with our 20 man strong guild here  Especially with one of those bad boys a few miles south :duh:

...NPC members, which can be hired and assigned to various roles and tasks by the higher ranking guild members, perhaps protecting the guild's property, carrying out assignments or simply acting as a merchant on behalf of the guild.
hmmm looks like RV is going to try and implement a system that npcs can interact (realistically) with the environment around them. I wonder how much is going to be in this "carrying out assignments."

The guild management interface also provides tools for communicating with and managing guildmembers, assigning individual sponsors to look after new members, adjusting contributions and fees and much more.
Looks like the RV big wigs really thought about this aspect (as well they should since it will be the biggest thing on a this one server game).
We can online manage the guilds, this will come in handy for sure. I wonder what type of options it can have.
Sponsors, this works really well with our guild since most members will have to try out first before being accepted.
"Adjusting contributions and fees" Looks like no one is going to be able to squirm out of paying their taxes :kaso: . From what I can tell the server puts a check on the mark players and will likely give a warning when a due date comes up. Hopefully they will put an online feature in so people like me can keep the tallys without resorting to the old fashioned pen and paper (which does have its plus', and I will likely do this method anyways).

Every guild has a home and this will be decided by your character's location when you create the guild. Then, either pick the name from the drop-down list of suggested names (based on your home) or make up your own.
Nice, looks like they thought ahead for this. Glad to see we can choose our own as well as being able to make a guild home instead of just claiming a piece of land and saying its our home.

Although each type of guild has its own preset (and relatively historically authentic) rank system containing fixed ranks to maintain the varying levels of trust and authority within the guild, there are also special positions. Special positions are provided purely for the sake of guild management and no game system effects apply - it's just a title.
Lastly you may enter some Notes about the guild. This could be your rules, your charter or anything you like.
Of all of these choices, Special positions and Notes are the only details you can change about your guild after it has been created., |
Woot! Looks like we can make our own ranks, and have it affect RV, if only in so much as standings count. This could be fun or more likely a pain in the ass for the leaders here as we try and monkey around with it.
Notes would be great since it will give others a chance to see what our guilds about.
Glad to see there is no pressure here to create the notes and classes before the guild is created.
There is some more to guilds via link below, but for the most part the important info is above.

Looks like the game is shaping up. I just wish they would release it soon...

Very interesting, I re-suggest we go with Switzerland, It's like THE greatest country within Europe.

I don't think the mountains would protect us very well, and the pike hasn't been invented yet... meh someone has to hold the roman horde away it might as well be us.
Plus, there will bound to be very populous cities around there or else the romans would have advanced more.
I would also hazard a guess, but I don't think the legions will move for at least a month. No point in starting the game as a barb only to find out that most of the land has been taken over by roman legions.

That is not the truth, the mountains were the very reason that stopped Hitler from invading during WWII Any natural barrier would be an advantage on our part, it doesn't cost money and it's one more thing an enemy needs to cross to get to us.
Xenophon - November 26, 2005 08:03 AM (GMT)
Yes, in real life. This is a video game remember, and I doubt mountains will prove to be the obstacle they where.
Mordhak - November 26, 2005 10:23 AM (GMT)
Xeno's right. You can't compare this to real life.
Oh and about those 6000 men legions... the FPS already drops to 2-3 when there's 7 people on the screen. Seriously.
Kaso - November 26, 2005 08:02 PM (GMT)
6000 is just the max anyway. The only way we'll ever see that is if the Roman emperor buys someone 5950 NPCs (aside from the NPC legions at the game start, but I believe they'll stay at home). Also, the mountains should provide some decent opportunites for ambush and possibly chokepoints for defense. That being said I'd rather move further north than Switzerland so we'll have time to actually build a nation before we're attacked by Rome.
Xenophon - November 27, 2005 09:44 AM (GMT)
Nulli you should know from beta that mountains in RV are at most a delaying factor not a stoping one.
As for moving further up north... I fail to see why. True we will be on deaths doorstop, but so will be other npc town and cities. Like I stated earlier the legions will wait for at least a month (if not more) before they move, and even if the barbs are outnumbered badly (doubt it, but who knows) the likely hood of them striking our humble hovel early on is unlikely, unleast of course we try and take over a large city.
500-6000 men are far to many to be bothered to attack a village of about 50.
As for fps. That because they only got the one ...station?... running. And that is from england. Also this is just a test server I don't think it would have the same quality as the real deal.

Therein lie many problems, Xeno.
-Even if they wait a month (which is just a guess) we'll only just begin building houses by your estimates on our town growth, which leaves us two steps from screwed by my count.
-It is possible they'll simply bypass us, though them destroying us while we're weak or at least raiding us for supplies is more likely, but even if they do walk by us we'll then be in the middle of enemy territory ready to be stomped out.
If we move further north we'll be out of range for the legions early on and we'll have time to establish ourselves. We can build our city, construct walls, and start taking over more territory before the legions realise we're there.
Xenophon - November 28, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
True it will give us time to prepare, but one most think they aren't just going to move that army into Germania without key targets or goals they want to capture. As long as we are well enough away from any key targets and the line of sight to the legion base I think we should be ok. 6000 men is a lot of people but even that much cannot afford to attack ever town, village, and hovel out there.
I would suspect that there will be large npc barb towns with big standing armies (likely bigger then the romans or this will be a very short game). Having the legion brake up to attack the small fry would be suicide for it.
Also what kinda resources are up north? How many people live up there compared to futher south?
I would be easier to make the decision to move to a new location when we at least know the basics of the RV world. As much as the game makers want to make it as realistic as possible I seriously doubt they are going to get the geography 100% correct.
pah, this is what the first week is for. Looking for a good spot to set up base and use screenshots and hand drawn maps for reference and location.
