Title: Mobius

Mobius - July 11, 2005 06:10 AM (GMT)
Age: 16

Hobbies/Sports: Guitar, Drums, Piano, Harmonica, charity, basketball, hockey... think that it

Game XP: hmm... started off with Lineage, became the strategist for my guild army ( if that counts for anything... not much stategy to the game in its later years.) Moved to FF11 where I got bored really fast. Currently play Guild Wars in all its glory, though starting to lose interst because my guild isnt competable. Ive also been raised on deltaforce and still play DFBH, although never got into the squad thing past DF2. Almost forgot to mention that I play Rome:Total War with the Total Realism mod. Just got done conquering the world with my roman armies and just stareted a campign as Germania... never got into multiplayed though.

All About Me: lets see, im in high school, currently enjoying whats left of summer before my senior year. Im considered to be somewhat of a mellow guy. mature for my age, poeple like to call me the little 30 year old. ( dont know if that a good thing :D ) Im heavily into music of pretty much all kinds, right now im listening to alot of jazz-rap ex...Guru, Us3, Gang Starr ( yes im white...but i live in los angeles if that makes a difference : B) ) and spanish stuff ex... ozomatli, juanes, gipsy kings. ( again live in LA ) Also can never get enough Jimmy Cliff! I guess you could say im an aspiring musician although i never admit that to anyone face to face. Currently in a jazz-funk-punk-reggae band ( yeah confuses me too) and work with a few vocalist on some R&B-Jazz influenenced stuff. hmmm I think im talking about myself to much here so ill leave it at that .

What I plan to bring to the Clan: I would like to become a master smith. ( actually how i got hooked into the forums here is through one of trakens posts on mmorp.com saying that he would like to be a master swordsmith as well.) So i was hoping that Id be able to help him in any way I could while also training to become a swordmen myself. I just want to find the right communitee to settle down in and you guys seem to be the tight knit group that ive always been looking for in an MMoRPG. Im willing to help out in any way i can really, just as long as I can be apart of a group such as yours.

( also would like to say that I recently won a test account on mmorpg.com so ill be in the beta eventually... not sure when though because they havn't sent out the date or information. )

I guess thats it, thanks for the consideration :kaso: ( coolest smiley ive ever seen)

Hello Mobius I've just got a few questions for you.

Where do you live?

Where did you find us?

Thats all for now.

Edit: Does that post sound mean?

Where do you live?

Psssht, he stated twice he lives in LA.

Mobius - July 11, 2005 01:48 PM (GMT)
where do i live: California

How did I find the clan: mmorpg.com through a link on traken, then i searched through the forums a bit and thought that you guys sounded like a really good guild so far.

And about the post sounding mean... no, just sounds like you want information.

Traken - July 11, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
Wow, I..uh..actually directed someone here?

First of all, I ditched the master smithing thing. I'm going to be a Miner as a non-combat Proffesion.

The guild's economic system is a quasi-socialist method. Right now I believe we have a tax rate of 70%. That means that 70% of your money will go to the guild. The guild will then provide you with all neccesary items for your profession, while leaving the "pretty things" for you to purchase.
Would you be able to handle this?

Mobius - July 11, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
As long as the basics are provided ( weapons, crafting,... houes maybe ) im fine, which it sounds like that wont be a problem. Luxuries mean nothing to me in RL so that deffinitley wont be a problem for me in a virtual world. Like everyone here, I will gladly put forth most of my income to the clan. Id rather build up a great city with you guys then horde a bunch of cash for myself to buy "silk" and other worthless junk. money and barbarianism just dont go together anyway.

And traken, if your going full-time miner, i wont have to much trouble finding a source of metals. :P Id also gladly help out anyone else who might want to start a certain type of crafting/ farming/ or fishing... and like i said before im very interested in becoming an architect so i could help out there when needed.

Cathair - July 11, 2005 05:27 PM (GMT)
What do you know about Celtic or Germannic history? What ethnicity do you plan to play?

" money and barbarianism just dont go together anyway. "

And actually, some of the "Barbarians" were the most materialistically greedy people ever. The Celts were notorious for their love of gold and their richly decorated outfits and horses.

zelda12 - July 11, 2005 05:31 PM (GMT)
For that matter do you study or have any knowledge of any subjects or eras in history?

Also may I enquire what type of warrior you would like to be, as well as what type of armour and weapons you wish to wield?

Mobius - July 11, 2005 07:42 PM (GMT)
I know alot about Roman military tactics and culture, but I must admit that i am alot more interested and knowledgable in greek history (spartans especially). As for Barbarian history I dont know too much. ( apparent by my bashing by Cathair :D ) But what I do know, I like. Why I picked to play a barbarian is 1. I like to play the underdog as much as I can, and 2. Id rather be apart of a free flowing community, not bound by the orders from an emperor and military generals which care nothing for my well-being. I will be Germanian more than likely, since my family kinda originates from that region.

As for whcih type of warrior I will play, mostly swordman ( maybe ), still debating whether I want to ride a horse into battle or not ( but from the sound of it, you guys already have enough calvary). But like many of you, I will only kill when needed. I hope to build our city first, become top-rank in my trade second, and wage war third.

The Red Baron - July 11, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
Why did you choose Braithar instead of another guild like the Tuatha or Fuilteach?

Mobius - July 11, 2005 08:19 PM (GMT)
Truthfully, braithar sounds like they require RP at all times when frankly i dont have the energy most times. I do alot of stuff outside of video games and come home to relax. I dont want to spend my time in-game worrying about my speech and if im upholding traditional celtic way of living. I want a group of guys willing to have a good time and enjoy the game.

Fuilteach doesnt sound like its to far long... i was thinking of joining them but ive made mistakes in the past by joining clans that werent "big" enough at time of release, resulting in the chaotic death of the clan before it even starts.

Plus i like your guys semi-socialist economy. Its good to see your leaders have the brains to think of something so complex. ( sorry if that sounded disrespectful, just implying that most guild leaders dont have the organization to think so big )

zelda12 - July 11, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
To my knowledge RPing is optional here in BP.

The Red Baron - July 11, 2005 08:23 PM (GMT)
That Braithar requires RP at all times?

Was that a spelling error or something?

NulliSecundus - July 11, 2005 09:13 PM (GMT)
I think he ment that we dont require role play all the time.

Mobius - July 11, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
Sorry BIG typo, was looking at another guild website... I like the fact that its optional here

Jolius - July 11, 2005 10:52 PM (GMT)
In a battle you we call a retreat, but your friend is lying badly injured. You are in the position to make a safe retreat. Do you retreat or stay and help your injured friend? (Tip: think about this one)

Lets just say you were commanding our forces vs. a roman legion. The Romans are in a square formation. What would you do to counter the Roman advance?

Cathair - July 12, 2005 01:42 AM (GMT)
Jolius, I think you should specify whether it is square marching formation or tortoise formation.

Jolius - July 12, 2005 02:01 AM (GMT)
I was thinking more along just plain square formation but hell answer for both.

Mobius - July 12, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
For the square formation, simply engage head on with infantry unit of your own, then flank them with a calvary unit, effectivley breaking the formation...

For the tortoise im guessing the best way to deal with this ( in an ideal situation ) is to launch ballistas at em to break the formation, but if conditions arnt as favorable simply feign attacks with your infantry/ calavary , launching the occasional random projectile ( javelin would work best) until there is a break in the formation, then exploit the hole and catch them while theyre confused.
Patience, i believe, will be the key to beating the tortoise.

As for my injured friend it all depends on the situtation. If it is a small skirmish and I have the ability to fight through a few romans to reach my friend and pull him out then I would. But if there is an entire legoin running at him, then of course i retreat with my army, protecting those who could actually be saved, (ex. Those with minor leg injuries, limping of the battefiled) I will never just run, I will do my best to save those who CAN be saved. In the situation you presented my friend sounds pretty bad off, i would hope that understands why i would leave him there becase i would want him to do the same for me if i was the one dying on the floor.

Couldnt have been a little explanatory? you might as well said.

"Roman Legion, Square Formation, Stop them."

lol I was thinking this too but didnt want to sound rude... i was hoping for numbers maybe some geographical advantages/disadvantages, etc. Id be happy to think up another plan for you jolius

Cathair - July 12, 2005 06:37 AM (GMT)
It would have been great if the "Barbarians" back then had ballistas or if their flanks would be so easy to flank. And the tortoise formation is the most overrated formation, they almost never engaged in melee with it, because it made them unable to throw their javelins which was a disaster to their opponents.

A concave retreat would work for the square formation if you had the right numbers (otherwise you would have to resort to guerilla warfare) and the tortoise formation wouldn't matter because they wouldn't engage in melee.

Mobius - July 12, 2005 06:43 AM (GMT)
Wow that kinda hurt again... About their flanks, the question was kinda broad so I didnt really know how to answer it rather than the generic military stategy of flanking.

And about the tortoise formation, just answering what I was asked.

Cathair - July 12, 2005 06:44 AM (GMT)
Yea, the tortoise question was a bad question in my humble opinion. I don't mean to sound harsh, just adding my input as well :)

Mobius - July 12, 2005 04:45 PM (GMT)
Anything else you guys want to hassle me on :D ???

Jolius - July 12, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
Ok I'll make up for that question with a new one.

unit= 20 men
-=infantry
c=cavalry
a=archer
.=open space
Ok once again you are commanding our troops. You have 4 units of infantry, 1 unit of archers, and 1 unit of cavalry. You are on the top of a slop facing an open field were a Roman army is approaching (so Romans will be marching up hill at you). The Romans are in square formation, 4 men deep. They have 5 infantry units and 2 cavalry units.
They are in a formation such as this
c.......c
..-----
They will be using standard roman equipment and tactics. If you are not failure with them I suggest you learn them.

The question is how will you defend against their attack. Be specific! I want to know how your men will be equipped where they are placed and how you will counter roman tactics along with executing your own.

Now that is a question.

Jolius - July 12, 2005 05:58 PM (GMT)
Oh real quick in that last post the army is marching down

so
c......c
.-----
They are facing this sentence

Methius Cursni - July 12, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
Lol, since all the stratedgy questions ..... ok lets say you, Jolious, Cathair, Great Britt, and Zelda are bathing ..... though you arent in the clan yet .... and one of them ask you another question ... you sword lays nearby .... what do you do? ;)

Ill give you hint: :barb: :o :)

This is important, for it relates to real life *cough* this post :)

hate to say Mobius, but Im going to null me vote (not + or - on ur vote) but quite frankly I dont know enough about your ingame slef (we have too many strategist here) heck If they had me that question Id say "Big rock; roll them at Tortoise ... and for hurt guy .... give nhim some food .... he'll be healed when u do that ;)

Though, when I took thier personal off-the-books test ..... I uh well .... wasnt too good :) (usually it was "CHARGE!" or "RUN LIKE HELL YOU MFers!" ...Im not exactly Sun Tzu ;)

About the whole stategist thing, i was really hoping to not have to take up this postition in this game. although it would be fun it seems like you guys already have enough people who know the era and battle tactics alot better than myself. Id rather be an odbient solder to our generals since i know that i can follow orders... ive been in the place of the stategist and KNOW the value of men i can trust...id like to be one of those men in this mmorpg.

Ill still post to the situation jolius, but im still thinking about it since i realized my first stategy wasnt very pratical... ( lets just say i was having flashbacks to "spartacus", that old slave movie, and the rolling lumps of burning hay down the hill... anyone else up for flame-roasted roman tonight? )

Cathair - July 13, 2005 03:08 AM (GMT)
You clearly stated you wanted to be a smith and he asked you battle questions. I gave my answers on what I would do, but that did not make my decision either way. In my opinion, he just asked you the wrong questions.

Mobius - July 13, 2005 07:54 AM (GMT)
Looks like ill be in beta by mid next week at the latest... hope you guys will give me the chance to play with you a bit.

zelda12 - July 13, 2005 12:36 PM (GMT)
Can I just say that your all lucky bastards! :P I'm going to be waiting for some time for my beta pass, if I even get it before the game comes out commercialy is a possibility.

Mobius - July 13, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
Where are you getting your zelda??

Traken - July 13, 2005 03:05 PM (GMT)
I imagine the same place I'll be getting mine: The official beta signup.

Mobius - July 13, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
Traken I thought you won a test account through mmorpg.com?

zelda12 - July 13, 2005 07:02 PM (GMT)
I'm getting mine from the official one, so it may be some time before I can get on. Hopefully I will though.

Well acording to the MMORPG staff we should be told what's the next step by the end of the week, and I heard that the 180 winners will be put into beta some time this month.

He probably just assumed that because you post on the MMORPG.com RV forums a lot.
