Title: Jolius
Description: Application

Jolius - July 4, 2005 01:40 PM (GMT)
In game name: Undecided
Age:17
Email: nonconformist420@gmail.com
Previous MMO experience: UO (2+ years), SWG (Small Guild Leader,7 months), WoW (Guild Leader around 50-70 active members,5 months), JumpGate, RuneScape (3 years, my first MMO), Wurm, and a few other small free mmo's

Hobbies: Playing Guitar, Playing MMO's, and hanging out with friends. I also have a lot of experience with clans in FPS. I am hoping RV will bring the things I like about both games together and make a truly great experience.

Description: I am use to playing with people much older than me. In my Battlefield clan about 70% of the members were over 25. One of my best buddies in the clan was 44. So you learn quickly to act maturely to not piss off the old guys.

What I am like in MMO's: I have always liked using strategy to beat the odds. I have often beaten enemies while being either out numbered or over powered by using teamwork and strategy. These are things I want to bring to the clan to make us “elite”. I don’t run away from a fight unless I know I can get most of my buddies out alive. I have sacrificed my life to buy my allies time to get away. However, I rather fight the good fight and stand my ground if possible and just take out as many guys as I can before I get taken down. What makes me mad in MMO’s is when some guy fighting with me just runs into a fight with no strategy like an idiot. I rather take the time to see what is happening and go in smartly. It isn’t a surprise that just running head first into a wall of enemies is a good way to die but not a very good way to win.

What I plan to do: I am not really sure. I will probably just be a soldier and pick something up on the side. I have some time to try things out anyway ;) .

Note: The romans have built in formations, but every formation has their weakness and I am sure we will find ways to exploit them.

Nice to see so many applications in such a short time.

Jolius, if I'd call you a dickhead (I'm one of the leaders of the guild, FYI), how would you react?

Note: this is a very life-like situation ;)

Also, what music do you listen to and where are you from? In real life, that is.

Jolius - July 4, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
I've been called worse. It really depends on why you called me it. If its just because you were frustrated with me I would probably just be quite or do what ever to stop frustrating you. If you were just joking around I would laugh. If you really just hated me... well then I am not sure what I would do, never had any guild leader hate me.

I listen to a lot of music. Mostly Rock, and some Jazz and blues. My Favorite band is defiantly Pink Floyd.

Oh I forgot to mention my aim is stratocast floyd

Mordhak - July 4, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
You still didn't tell us where you come from.

Jolius - July 4, 2005 02:55 PM (GMT)
Oh, I forgot sorry. I live in a town about 10-15 minutes from Madison Wisconsin USA.

I hope you have some humor in you Julious :) like I do, though you may not want as much

Ok back to me "Serious Guild member (rarely worn) "

1. How did you find this site?
2. How long have you been on the forums?

Jolius - July 4, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
1. on the RV forums. There was a post called Looking for Germanic Guild or something and I found you guys.
2. I posted on the RV forcums back when it was still called Gladius Online. I got tired of following a game that wouldn't be out for a long time so I decided to just check up on it ever couple of months to see how it was going. I am also a member of MMORPG.com and when i saw the contest to win a beta account i signed up for it. I didn't expect to win and the NDA doesn't alow me to say anymore.

Do you consider yourself a hardcore gamer? Are you familiar with this time period in history? (180 AD) What ethnicity do you think you will chose?

zelda12 - July 4, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
Do you own any computers that run either a Mac or Linux OS? :P

Jolius - July 4, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
yes

Am i familure with the time period? Oh yes i took two years of Latin my freshmen year of high school (4 semesters worth of Latin in 2 semesters). I read Julius Ceasers Galic war in Latin. Now I don't remember a thing about reading and speaking Latin but i remember the history pretty well. I plan to be germanic.

So you did click on my sig, good-o.

My first question is did you play vanilla 1942 or another mod?

Jolius - July 4, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)
I assume you are talking about Battlefield 1942. I played Desert Combat, Parallel worlds, Forgotten Hope, Eve of Destruction, and another one but the name escaped me.

Ahhh desert combat....fond memories.

What class did you go for most on desertcombat?

NulliSecundus - July 4, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
Ever heard of Paul Oakenfold?

Methius Cursni - July 4, 2005 10:49 PM (GMT)
I played Parralell worlds .. it was funny, especially that robot ... the way he fired ;) Though I didnt like how they got rid of many of the grenades and putr in the mini-mine stuff. I tell you, I could never really shake off a shiver when I was agianst those spiders .... even if I knew I would get him.

Jolius - July 4, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
Favorite class would have to be... hmmmm i donno i was in the hellies a lot. Would have to say enginner.

No

I loved those spiders, but they were no match for the robot. I would usually shoot it from far away and dodge. If I was low on health and was close i used the jets and jumped on the robot. Sometimes it worked.

I was a sniper myself, sometimes using the helo's.

Yea when I wasn't flying or driving tanks I was sniping. They had some power.

NulliSecundus - July 4, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
damn right, I once held the town in battle of the bulge for 3 minutes against wave after wave of enemies, thank god for the .50 cal.

Methius Cursni - July 5, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)
Yeah, it was trickjy to hold that town against the Germans, go to the bridge side and they attack from the other, I swear I was shooting those .50 cals jamming every 20secs and I turn around and there was like 10 enemy soldiers behind me .. stupid NPCs ... I swear on that game 1 RL player is better then 10. Those spiders sure were easy to blow up with mines, I used engineer as anti-armor and sniper.

NulliSecundus - July 5, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
You big moron the 50.cal is only avaliable in the Desert Combat mod, in which the german's are not a playable army.

Jolius - July 5, 2005 12:18 AM (GMT)
LOL. Anyway the sniper rifles in 42 blew. I was always a medic or engineer depending on the situation. I was deadly in a tiger. :barb:

I know...single bolt action....jesus h christ it sucked. I alway's went eng aswell. On Stalingrad a engineer can dominate by sitting in one of those HQ buildings, I should know 107 kill's to 27 deaths ONLINE!

Jolius - July 5, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
They wouldn't have been so bad if you could get one shot kills from the chest too and not just the head... you know, like in real life lol.

Anouther fun thing was the PT boats on battle fo the phillies. I donno why but i got kick out of them.

NulliSecundus - July 5, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
Lol, on that map I made it my mission to beach the jap destroyer in the allied harbour area.

It redefines the phrase "shore battery"

Jolius - July 5, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
What is fun to do is to get up on top of that really tall hill with a bar or engi rifle and shoot people as they hit the beach. Most will be dumb founded as how you got up there and anyone who tried to get up there will prolly be killed by you as they fumble their way up the hill.

NulliSecundus - July 5, 2005 01:28 AM (GMT)
BAH, I love your sig, as a CS player that always happens.

Traken - July 5, 2005 03:17 AM (GMT)
I've only had that happen to me twice. Well, except for the fact that steam occasionaly uninstalls my sound drivers...

Mordhak - July 5, 2005 07:16 AM (GMT)
That's enough guys. Get back back on topic. You can always create a Battlefield 1942 thread in the Off-Topic area.

Jolius - July 5, 2005 12:24 PM (GMT)
What exactly is the topic? :woot

Anyway thanks for the sig compliments.

Methius Cursni - July 5, 2005 01:43 PM (GMT)
Well, I definitely feel good I voted yes for you.

Jolius - July 5, 2005 07:39 PM (GMT)
So.... what now.

Methius Cursni - July 5, 2005 08:31 PM (GMT)
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! We are in the middle of a cultict ritual .... seeing if the rock will sink , if so ...... MAUAHAHAAHA!

Xenophon - July 6, 2005 02:42 AM (GMT)
Hello Jolius, I am Xenophon (the person who has been sleeping for the last weak or so; ie not posting).

Anyways I have a few questions (hears multiply groans from fellow guild members whom endured such a test)

1. What is your goal in Roma Victor? No one plays a game without trying to attain something, is it to be the best? The most popular? The best skilled? The go-to guy? The most loved?, etc. I know this may sound silly but it is true. When I turn on call of duty (for instance) I always try to be the guy you can depend on to carry out an objective and/or mission. What do you try and be?

2. Roma Victor is not one of the most nicest games to look at, especially compared to guild wars and the such. Its obvious your not a graphic whore, so what got your attention about the game? The realism? There is other games that are pretty realistic, why this one over them? Interactivity? Galaxies (starwars) is out and it has possibly more interactivity then Roma Victor (depends on what gets put in before the release). Combat System? This combat system is not new, there are other games that hold such a system, again why this over them. Me, I choose this game for one sole reason. To build an empire. True, I love the game for other reasons, this is the sole reasons (above others) that I play this game. I have the ability to build walls, houses, shops, towers, guards; an empire. While I am not a tyrant (fellow members can vouch for this), I do want to better the guild to make it something that other roma victors players can point at in awe (or close enough).

3. If you do get in, what are your plans? You have been a guild leader for a number of guilds, and for many months at that. Are you able to live with the fact that you may not become the leader of this guild? Why did you choose to live as a normal member (which in this guild, isn't a whole lot different then a guild leader; me, mordhak, and bthizle pretty much leave it up to the guild as whole to decide ideas, but we do (from time to time) step in when the guild can't make decisions or when it needs direction). Why did you not try and start a Roma Victor guild? You seem capable enough to do it.

4. I will not lie to you. There will be ups and downs with this guild. Members have left (though not that many), others have had some 'epic' conflicts, while others yet have been kicked or been suspected of treason. While this may seem grim at first, to fact is that this all has occured over 6 months the guild has been in action. If your willing to listen to each idea with a open mind, watch that you don't type something you will regret later, and are loyal to the guild then you will have no problems. In fact the guild has had a lot of fun over the months and most of the time in it is a happy enviroment reaching to perfect it self. What I want to know is, will you be there when the fire runs high?

Thats all for now, thanks Xeno.

Jolius - July 6, 2005 02:24 PM (GMT)
Well I guess I want to be famous in a way I guess. You know the guy who people like to play with. It is kind of weird I usually have some pretty big goals but in this game I kind of just want to have fun. I guess I would like to be very successful at going on raids in Roman territory and build a little group of guys that will work together very tightly to be able to defeat the roman strategies.

I always wanted to build an empire in a game. In every MMORPG I started a guild in (except WoW) that was my plan. In fact that’s one of the reasons I was attracted to this game years ago. However, now I am more interested in PvPing. There aren’t going to be people just running around using "arcane explosion" or what ever. You will need strategies to win battles. Plus I want to be able to raid a town, take everything we can carry and burn it to the ground! That would be fun.

I am kind of tired of being a guild leader. Being a guild leader isn't always sunshine and lollypops. It takes hard work and often you cannot go and do what you want in the game because you have to deal with guild matters. I don't really want that responsibility. I would like to be somewhat high up, I don't want to be a guy who feels left out. As to making my own guild. I thought about and even had one started for this game a long time ago. However, I gave it up.

I’m not a stranger to hard times in MMO's. Usually things get really great after they get bad. :cheer :cheer

Jolius - July 6, 2005 02:28 PM (GMT)
Sorry if that doesn't make much sense I was in a rush.

Jolius - July 7, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
Was that adequate or do you want me to elaborate?
